IMac could not  'find'  base station. (Previously working)

Today I found that my iMac (20" Core 2 Duo with built in Airport card) was not talking to my Airport Extreme 802.11n base station.
The base station had a green light and was talking OK with another machine upstairs so there was nothing wrong with the internet connection (or the cable broadband router) or the base station.
I re-booted the iMac but still no connection. I scanned for base stations from the Airport utility. Nothing found.
So I did the factory reset on the base station and scanned again and this time it 'found' it. Set up the network (passwords etc) from scratch and everthing working OK.
Except now it would not talk to the PC upstairs. Checked on the Airport utility to see what channel was in use and found it had defaulted to 13. No problem. I changed it to 6 (our normal channel) and waited for the base station to reboot. Base station re-booted fine (green light) and PC upstairs connected. Good.
BUT. Now could not find base station from iMac again!
So I went through the whole process again, once to make sure the fault was repeatable and once again to set a new channel to 10.
Now everything works great again. Everything talking to everything else (including iMac and upstairs PC) but using channel 10 now instead of the old channel 6.
I dont know why this fault should suddenly happen. Why a channel that has had no problems since install (months ago) should suddenly not work.
The only thing different was the big Software Security download from Apple yesterday morning. But the network was OK for hours after that and there was no Airport software upgrades today (that I know of) and the base station is still on version 7.1.1.
(One other strange thing I noticed. When running iStumbler after all this, I could see my network and the usual three other nearby networks near my home BUT they were all also now on channel 10 or 11 whereas they had all been on channel 6 previously just like mine had been. Weird.)
I am in the UK in case things are different where you are.
I would be interested to know if this has happened to you at some time especially in the last day or two.
Thanks

I don't know. I just reset the airport base station
(before your post) and erased all network stuff to
start from scratch.
Should it use PPoE?
That depends on your ISP. It would be in your ISP documentation.
Should AppleTalk be active?
TCP/IP and AFP (the replacement for AppleTalk) are required.

  • Help! Airport Utility not finding base station

    Hi. I just bought a used Airport Extreme base station on ebay. It's the 4th generation model -- A1354, also known as MC340LL/A. The owner claimed it's in mint condition and working fine.
    I got it today. It looks like it's in good shape and I plugged my Ethernet cable into it, and the base station's light turned green as it's supposed to.
    I am using an IMac (circa late 2007) running Mavericks.
    The problem I'm having is that Airport Utility is not finding the base station. I don't know what's going wrong and I don't know how to solve the problem. I've reset the base station and I've unplugged it and plugged it back in with no luck.
    Last year, I used an older airport extreme base station, one of the saucer shaped ones, and it would show up when I ran Airport Utility (I had to use an older version of the Aiport Utility app). I decided to upgrade to a newer base station because the saucer-shaped one kept dropping its wifi network.
    Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas about why Aiport Utility is not noticing the base station. The manual that came with the base station didn't instruct on how to solve such a problem.
    Thanks.
    Mirsky

    Okay, feel free to disregard. I reset the Airport Extreme a second time and that seemed to do the trick.

    Hi
    This issue could be with corruption in  Autodiscover and web services virtual directory

  • I am constantly receiving an error message that says "Could not find a PPPoE Server." My wireless internet connection seems to working fine, I'm not having any issues. How do I get rid of this error message?

    A few weeks ago my computer had lost the connection to the wireless internet. I set it up again and was able to connect to the internet, however since then I've been receiving an error message "Could not find a PPPoE Server." I went back into Preferences and unchecked the PPPoE server option but the error message still pops up.
    Any idea how to fix it?

    In the Network pane of System Prefences, do you have duplicate services on the left column? When you "set it up again", you might have duplicated a service and both (the good working one and the previous that lost connection) might be trying to connect at the same time.

  • WCF Published Orch - Could not find a base address that matches scheme http for the endpoint with binding MetadataExchangeHttpBinding

    I have an orchestration published as a web service.  It was working fine on our test environment, we deployed to production, and now getting this error.  The website wouldn't go in the BizTalk MSI, so we copied the files.  We reset the Authentication
    to match the test system (we are using Basic Auth).
    When we try to browse the webservice in the browser, it prompt for userid/password, we enter it, then it gives the following error.
    I'm not even sure what it means by "base address", if URL was https://prod.mydomain.com/myapp/myservice.svc, would https://prod.mydomain.com be the based address? In the test environment, the URL is https://test.mydomain.com/myapp/myservice.svc.
    In both environments, we have a customer calling this webservice.
    Also, I don't know what it means "scheme http".  We are using https:... on the URL.
    I'm thinking this is either security related, something to do with the app pool being different, or maybe something to do with bindings.
    Thanks,
    Neal Walter

    When you want to migrate Web Applications from one environment to other there are multiple ways to achieve it.
    1) Migrate in MSI- Export MSI and select the option for your Web Application, however I don't recommend this option
    2) Is to browse the folder for Web Application(Right click on web app and browse). Copy this folder(normally within inetpub folder) and take it to the inetpub folder of other environment. Later from the IISManager create application.
    Are you not using the same Binding file?
    Check you web.config file and see if the endpoint is configured for mexHTTpBinding.
    Old: binding="mexHttpBinding"
    New: binding="mexHttpsBinding"
    web.config snippet:
    <services>
    <service behaviorConfiguration="ServiceBehavior" name="LIMS.UI.Web.WCFServices.Accessioning.QuickDataEntryService">
    <endpoint behaviorConfiguration="AspNetAjaxBehavior" binding="webHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="webBinding"
    contract="LIMS.UI.Web.WCFServices.Accessioning.QuickDataEntryService" />
    <endpoint address="mex" binding="mexHttpsBinding" contract="IMetadataExchange" />
    </service>

  • Getting a "Could not find a base address that matches scheme net.tcp"

    I've written several WCF services which use HTTP (and its variants).  Now I'm trying to learn how to write a WCF service which will use TCP.  I'm using Andrew Troelsen's book, "Pro C# 2008 and the .NET 3.5 Platform" as a guide (chapter 25).  I've asked questions related to this before on a much more complicated WCF service, so I decided to write a simple WCF service to learn how to do it, rather than work on my more complicated WCF service.  Coincidentally I chose the same routine as Troelsen did in his book, although in my case I called the WCF service SimpleAdd.
    Anyway, after writing the WCF service, I then wrote the Windows Service to host it.  I then installed it, and the installation went fine.  When I tried to run the service, the service started but then immediately stopped.  I checked the event log and found the following message in it:
    "Service cannot be started. System.InvalidOperationException: Could not find a base address that matches scheme net.tcp for the endpoint with binding MetadataExchangeTcpBinding. Registered base address schemes are [http]."
    Here's the interface code for my SimpleAdd:
    using System;
    using System.Collections.Generic;
    using System.Linq;
    using System.Runtime.Serialization;
    using System.ServiceModel;
    using System.Text;
    namespace SimpleAdd
        // NOTE: If you change the interface name "IService" here, you must also update the reference to "IService" in App.config.
        [ServiceContract]
        public interface IService
            [OperationContract]
            int Add(int FirstNumber, int SecondNumber);
    Here's the code for the implementation (I'm leaving out the using statements):
    namespace SimpleAdd
        // NOTE: If you change the class name "Service" here, you must also update the reference to "Service" in App.config.
        public class Service : IService
            #region IService Members
            int IService.Add(int FirstNumber, int SecondNumber)
                return (FirstNumber + SecondNumber);
            #endregion
    And here's the App.Config file for the service:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
    <configuration>
      <system.web>
        <compilation debug="true" />

    </configuration>
    I don't think it will matter much, because I believe the problem probably lies in the App.config file for the Windows service, but just in case, here's the code for the AddWinService (without the using statements):
    namespace WindowsAddService
        public partial class AddWinService : ServiceBase
            //A member variable of type ServiceHost.  (I'm using the "Pro C# 2008" book as reference for this.)
            private ServiceHost myHost;
            public AddWinService()
                InitializeComponent();
            protected override void OnStart(string[] args)
                //just to be really safe
                if (myHost != null)
                    myHost.Close();
                    myHost = null;
                //create the host
                myHost = new ServiceHost(typeof(SimpleAdd.Service));    //I've included the class from SimpleAdd, which isn't in the book!!!
                //open the host
                myHost.Open();
            protected override void OnStop()
                //shut down the host
                if (myHost != null)
                    myHost.Close();
    And lastly, here is the App.Config file from my AddWinService:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
    <configuration>

    So, where have I gone wrong?
    Rod

    Hello Richard,
    Well, I've tried making the change to the MEX point for net.tcp, but now when I try to start the service I get the following error in the event log:
    Service cannot be started. System.InvalidOperationException: Service 'SimpleAdd.Service' has zero application (non-infrastructure) endpoints. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no service element matching the service name could be found in the configuration file, or because no endpoints were defined in the service element.
    I am sure the problem lies with what I've put into the app.config file.  My app.config file now looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
    <configuration>
        <system.serviceModel>
            <client>
                <endpoint address=""
                                    binding="netTcpBinding"
                                    contract="SimpleAdd.IService"
                                    name="netTcpBinding_IService" />
            </client>
            <services>
                <service name="SimpleAdd.Service"
                                 behaviorConfiguration="SimpleAddMEXBehavior">
                    <!-- Enable the MEX endpoint -->
                    <endpoint address="mex"
                                        binding="mexTcpBinding"
                                        contract="IMetadataExchange" />
                    <host>
                        <!-- Need to add this so MEX knows the address of our service. -->
                        <baseAddresses>
                            <add baseAddress="net.tcp://localhost/SimpleAdd" />
                        </baseAddresses>
                    </host>
                </service>
            </services>
            <behaviors>
                <serviceBehaviors>
                    <behavior name="SimpleAddMEXBehavior">
                        <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="false" />
                    </behavior>
                </serviceBehaviors>
            </behaviors>
        </system.serviceModel>
    </configuration>
    I've also tried using this for the <client> tag under <system.serviceModel>:
    <client>
       <endpoint address="net.tcp://localhost/SimpleAdd"
             binding="netTcpBinding"
        contract="SimpleAdd.IService"
        name="netTcpBinding_IService" />
    </client>
    But that gives me the same error in the event log.
    So, what have I done wrong now?

  • Why have all 3 airport express base stations stopped working, BT have checked and improved line still not working?

    Why have all 3 airport express base stations stopped working, other users are on ipads and BT have checked and improved line but I still have an intermittent/no connection?

    You must tell us the whole setup.. what is the main router?? How are the express connected to each other?
    On ipad it works ok?? But you are on a computer?? MBP early 2011 running Lion?? That doesn't work.. even if you are right next to the main router??
    Plugged in by ethernet does it work??
    Have you installed a wireless diagnostic program.. ?? Actually Lion has one installed but hidden I believe.
    Later version bought it to the surface.
    About Wireless Diagnostics
    If you do run Lion please install the 5.6 airport utility as it will give you loads more info on how the units are connected.. and link speeds for extend wireless.
    How to load 5.6 into later Lion & ML
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
    Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    Leave the package open on the desktop so you can see the file. AirportUtility56.pkg
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
    Run unpkg on the desktop.. If your Mac refuses to run the software, because it wasn’t downloaded from the Apple store, go to security in preferences and allow other software to work.. this is limitation of trade methinks. You can set back later if you like.
    Now drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. in finder, open the new directory, drill down.. applications, utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
    You cannot uninstall version 6 (now 6.3 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. although I have had no problems when doing so.

    (Note: You will generally only see the arrangement option in Displays when you are configured to use the external display in Extended Desktop mode; there is no arrangement in Mirroring as both screens are showing the same image.)

  • Everything on my macbook 5.1 was erased and then the person who erased it could not find start up disc to reinstall. i called apple and gave them the serial number and they sent me leopard os 10.5 which is what originally came with the computer. not work

    i was given a macbook 5.1 by my mom, being nice, she erased everything on it, but then could not find the original start up disc. i called apple and had the serial number and said that leopard 10.5 was the operating system that orginally came with it, so i bought it. when i got it,i turned on computer, put in dvd, and immediately shut it off, then turned it back on while pressing letter c. (they told me to do this) i can hear the disc turning but alls i get is blank screen then it shuts down, and restarts. nothing ever shows up on the screen. did i get a wrong disc? should there be something different than just the mac os x leopard 10.5 to get this computer to work again?? thanks for your help!

    It means what it says. The "computer person" formatted it wrongly/ unsuitably. it needs to be formatted again.

  • HT1218 Airport Extreme base station is working, but not visible on network?

    My Airport Extreme base station is working:  all devices are able to connect to the internet, but Airport Utility shows no connection.  Only one computer even shows the device-- greyed out-- saying "Device not Found."  The airport utility shows version 6.2;  OS X version 10.8.3.  How do I update the base station to version 7 if the device can't be found?  And how do the devices connect to the internet without "seeing" the device?

    Thanks for checking. This model should be visible in AirPort Utility in Mountain Lion.
    If you have not already done so, I suggest that you perform a complete power cycle on the entire network as folllows:
    Power off every network device....in any order you want
    Wait a minute or two
    Start the modem first, and let it run a few minutes by itself
    Start the AirPort Extreme next, the same way
    Continue starting devices one at a time about a minute apart until everything is powered back up
    Check the network again using AirPort Utility
    You can also temporarily connect an Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme to see if a connection is established that way.
    If still no luck, try another Mac if you one handy. After that, all that I can suggest is that you perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme and configure it again.

  • How do I install Netgear XE102 on my iMac?  It will not install off of the cd provided it appears to be only for Windows based computers.  Checked Netgear website and could not find a setup.exe file for Mac.

    Unable to install Netgear XE102 on my iMac.  Checked Netgear website and could not find a setup.exe file for Mac.

    That means either no software needs to be installed on a Mac or the product is incompatible with Macs. Contact NetGear tech support for help.

  • Could not find an installed JDK, SCM Java Tools may not work until registry

    Hello all,
    I've downloaded the latest full version of Designer (10.1.2.3), but getting installation error: Could not find an installed JDK, SCM Java Tools may not work until registry
    Any solution?

    3. install the Designer 10.1.2.3 patch to the Developer suite home.When I try to do this at C:\oracle\product\Ora10gDSR2, I get a message OUI-10137: An Oracle Home with name OUIHome already exits at C:\OraHome (a directory that doesn't exist) please specify another name for Oracle Home.
    I don't want to just specify another name because cleaning up these faulty installations requires deleting registry keys, etc, since the deinstall does't really remove everything sufficiently to start with a clean slate.
    I also got the Java JDK message because the JDK 5 is no longer being put straight onto the C drive, it is buried in C:\Sun\SDK\jdk, so some java programs have to be pointed to it. The Oracle installer doesn't provide this option.
    Also, Michael, your post, "Re: Designer 10.1.2.3 on windows Xp Posted: Oct 20, 2007 7:05 AM in response to: mmehdi" is full of unreadable characters and question marks. Maybe I don't have a font you are using. There are also references to a zip file and a Word document that aren't there.
    Anyway, thanks for all your time and effort,
    Edward
