Imac crashed/need to put itunes back on new computer

My imac recently crashed. How do I put everything (purchased AND cds) from my ipod back onto the new itunes?

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay:
Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • I need to put itunes on my new computer but it says I have used up all 5

I only have three computers, work home and laptop so what is up? I cannot put Itunes on my new laptop it says I used up all five?  I disposed of my two old desktops so how do I continue to manage may account and hear my music?

Thank you all for your replies. Here is what i ended up doing. I cannot afford any 3rd party software so i went to itunes and manually entered all my playlists. As I had indicated my purchased music was on my new computer just not the playlists  and I could not sync my ipod. After I rebuilt all my playlists I tried to restore my ipod to factory defaults/new. All of the steps called for in apple support and elsewhere were not available to me. I connected my ipod, went to my computer, right clicked my ipod, and formatted. That wiped my ipod so when I connected to itunes it then gave me a restore option. I did the restore and all is good in the empire again. I can now buy new music and sync my ipod so I am a happy camper.
    Thanks to all.

If you registered the software when you first installed it then you should be able to find the serial number available thru your Adobe account online.

My computer crashed and I downloaded Itunes on a new computer and I'm trying to download new music to my ipod and a message comes up thatsays 'my ipod is synced with another Itunes library' {obviously my dead computer} and I can either 'Erase and Sync or Transfer Itunes purchases'. Is there ANY way possible I don't have to erase my music and can download some new stuff? Please help. Thanks- so frustrated.

Yes. I have no personal experience with this, but it is possible to recover your music from an iPod. See this link: http://guides.macrumors.com/Recovering_Songs_from_an_iPod

  • I need help getting itunes on my new computer. old one crashed

My old computer crashed, I downloaded iTunes on my new computer and need help getting all of my stuff on it that I had. I did 'home share' to see if that worked, and it didnt.
Also, on my old computer, when I synced my iPad & my husbands iPod, it didnt sync any music or podcasts, no videos-and i went through each category seperately to sync it and it didnt work. So I can't sync my devices to the new iTunes bc not everything is on there that i have purchased.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your comuter for just this occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything on the new computer.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup, not good, then you can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Please help, desperately need to get iTunes back on my computer

Hello all, I will make this as short as possible.
I just installed a new, larger and faster HD on my Dell Inspiron 5150. It is the same brand as the other and is working fine. I use backup software and retored my HD to the same condition that it was in before the change. I started iTunes and retrieved my Podcasts and even loaded a CD on it. I was in the process of backing up the HD and I wanted to load the podcasts and CD onto my iPod. It would not connect to iTunes no matter what I did. I stopped the backup and it still would not connect.
I decided to re-install iTunes, went to the Apple site, downloaded the program and it would not install over the old version. I then deleted the older version using add/remove programs and tried to install. When I click on <<Run>>, I get a flash on the screen of Quicktime and then nothing. I then deleted Quicktime from the HD and the same thing kept happening.
I came here and saw a post about Norton so I disabled that and again the same. Then I saw a post about installing Quicktime first, same result. I can see <<quicktime>> and a progression bar for only an instant each time. I am rebooting between all these tries by the way.
Can anyone PLEASE help me to get my iTunes back. I do not have a disc. Can I buy one at Best Buy?? Everything is running fine but it just will not begin the installation.
If there is a solution on this board already, please point me to it. I need iTunes, I don't think I can function without it?? what could have gone wrong??? Again Please, PLEASE help me out.
Thanks so much in advance. I will keep searching for answers in the meantime.
    Mike (PLEASE HELP)

If your library was working on your computer and then popped up empty all of a sudden then this might be what you need...
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

Restore the songs from a backup, or use these instructions to redownload them through the iCloud if doing so is free in your country.

  • Putting iTunes library on new computer...

i have a brand new iMac.
i want to put my itunes library on it (from my old iMac).
i have a myBook external hard drive & i used the back up application (the one with the orange umbrella).
i need help on how i go about putting my iTunes library on my new computer.
any suggestions would be great. i'm not too computer savvy.
    thanks

It is included with all Macs and it should ask you if you want to do this when you first start your new computer. This transfers anything and/or everything from your old computer to your new one.
You can type "Migration Assistant" into the search bar on Apple Support. One of the articles that will be found is this one:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3322
It will help you use it.

  • Computer Hard Drive Crashed - Need to Transfer from IPod to New Computer

The hard drive died on my old PC as I was transferring files to the new PC. Most data made it but my daughter's ITunes was not one of the things that made it. Fortunately the tunes all still exist on her IPod. How do I transfer them on to the new computer and ensure the music all makes it? She has a combination of music purchased from ITunes and music from CDs. Her IPod is an older mono screen model but I believe we had ITunes 6.x or later on the old machine if that makes a difference.

  • Putting itunes & music on new computer

    Hi all,
A few days ago my computer died on me, and I have since found out that there is no way of getting any information at all off my old hard drive.
I have since bought a new computer, with Windows Vista on it. First of all, what is the best way of installing itunes again? Do I just get version 7.3 from the 'downloads' section? Will it work with Vista?
Secondly, and more importantly, how can I copy all my music from my ipod back onto itunes on my computer? I have read various methods on here, but they all involve doing something with my old computer, which is obviously not an option. What's the best way of doing it?
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Kris.

PS fyi, my operating system on my old computer was Windows XP, my itunes was up to version 7.1 I think, and the software on my ipod was version 3.1.1, which I think is the most up to date version.
