IMac Crashes during updating of thumbnails
My daughter's iMac 24 (8,1 from 2008) had a problem last week. Took it to Apple. They first said it was the HD, then said it was the video card. They called and said they could not boot from the HD, but could from external (which they couldn't do before the video card was replaced. Asked to wipe the HD, which was fine since I have a TM back up (and a SuperDuper back-up at work). They said not to restore everything from TM, but to only restore apps, then bring things over manually....something a possible software issue.
Fired up the iMac, brought over movies and documents. During the process to move the photos, the iMac crashed. Long story short, I moved the library from TM to the pictures folder today. It took a few hours (lots of photos). Opened iPhoto and it said it was updating thumbnails. Before the progress bar moved, the iMac rebooted. I reopened iPhoto and clicked "finish later" re the thumbnails. The library opened, all the folders/albums were there, but no thumbnails. The photos seemed fine.
I then restared iPhoto holding down option-command. I first repaired permissions, then it went to the indexing of the thumbnails. No progress on the status bar and the gear stopped spinning and the iMac rebooted.
Again, option-command and I tried to rebuild the database (the fourth choice on the list). It took less than 10 seconds and the iMac rebooted. The crash report is below.
I used iPhoto Library Manager (3rd party program) to rebuild the library as well. That seems to have worked (it's still going). Anyone see anything in the report that would be of concern? I'm thinking that perhaps I have a bigger problem than the video card (perhaps a logic board issue).
Thanks in advance.

They said not to restore everything from TM, but to only restore apps, then bring things over manually....something a possible software issue.
Not sure what this is about or what it means with reguards to iPhoto or what you did to "bring things over manually"
But the iPhoto library is a SQLite database and must always be treated as a single entity - you can not not manually resotre pieces of it and use it - you must use the Time Machine application and restore the iPhoto library intact as one single restore

2 month old iMac, crashes during boot
Yesterday I received an automatic software update. Today it crashes during boot up. This is what I see:

Sigh...The two hardware issues that come to mind are loose or unseated ram module(s) and resetting the SMC. There have been quite a few folks reporting an issue with a unseated ram module that reinstalling fixed.

IPhoto Crashes during Upgrade at Thumbnails
I have searched this discussion group and found many suggestions to overcome my problem with iPhoto 5.0.4, but none are working.
I installed iLife '05 yesterday. My entire purpose in purchasing this software was to organize my extensive photo library. When going through the upgrade process, iPhoto crashes while updating Thumbnails.
I have tried this suggestion:
Setting Permissions for iPhoto Library Folder
1 - Select the iPhoto Library folder and type Command-I.
2 - When the Info window comes up go to the Ownership and Permissions section and make sure You have Read & Write permission and that the Owner and Group have Read & Write also. Others - Read Only.
3 - Then click on the "Apply to enclosed items..." button.
See it it will work now. If not, launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the two options regarding thumbnails. This may be the same as what iPhoto was doing on its own but give it a try. if that fails then move the three thumbnail files, Thumb32.data, Thumb64.data and ThumbJPG.data to the Trash and launch iPhoto. They may be damaged and rebuilding this way may get you thru the process.
I have tried the suggestions on these pages:
http://homepage.mac.com/loridilo/Personal21.html
http://homepage.mac.com/loridilo/Personal22.html
NOTHING works. I know my photos are not lost and that they are on my hard drive. However, if I have to recreate the hundreds of folders I'm gonna go postal.
-KirkKirk:
Do you have a backup copy of your V4 iPhoto Library folder? After installing iLife 05 did you repair disk permissions with Disk Utility?
Here's an easy off the wall fix that worked for another user, it just might work for you.
1 - move your iPhoto Library folder to the desktop.
2 - launch iPhoto and when asked create a new library.
3 - quit iPhoto and move the new library folder to the trash and move the original one back to the Pictures folder.
4 - launch iPhoto.
Don't ask me why but it worked for another user.
If that doesn't work you can try to rebuild the library (make a temporary backup copy of the library folder first - select it and type Command-D. Then launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
If that doesn't work there's this option:
1 - move the backup library folder to the desktop and trash the original that didn't rebuild properly.
2 - launch iPhoto and create a new library.
3 - using the File->Add to Library select the duplicate library folder and click the Import button.
This will import the full sized image files that are inside that iPhoto Library folder. Most of the rolls will be intact but with different titles and dates (the current import date). There will be additional rolls for the various original files of those you've edited earlier. You will lose albums, keywords and comments. But that should get you an up and running library.
Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

Apple tv crashed during update
My apple tv has crashed during an update. I has got stuck on step 1 of 2 preparing to update.
I may have caused this by trying to use during update.
Should i unplug and start over
ThanksYou are not supposed to use while it is downloading and applying the update. It's very likely to have caused the issue. I don't think you can just unplug and start over, though you may try.
I would suggest grabbing a micro USB cable and restoring in iTunes, which will also download the latest update

C6 Firmware crashed during update
Hello
I was updating my firmware of my newly bought nokia c6-00 and during the installation i faced outage of power due to load shedding in my city and now my device isn't working its not even booting its just blank black screen and when i tries to boot it up i just feels a minor vibration and that's it nothing more than that
i have nokia care point very far from my apartment basically my question is that can nokia make it working again ? It is in full 12 months warranty and this accident happened just after 2 days of my purchase
i am much worried about it and i have tried all the methods to get it back working which i have found out of nokia support discussions forum
i dont want to loss my expensive phone
Thank you and sorry for bad english
Hamza Butt
Hamza ButtUnfortunately a power outage at just the wrong time during updating process means that there is now no alternative but to take device to a Nokia Care point to re-install the firmware.

Ipod will not restore crashed during update
ipod crashed on update and will not work. it said to do a restore but I have tryed 2 times and both times the restore didn't work
I just did the install of 2.0.02 last and I had one dickens of a time restoring my library. Here is what happened to me. Right before doing the update it tells you that all of your music, videos etc.. will be removed from the Ipod Touch once the update is done installing. So I found a DVD and burned my library to it. Then I went ahead and did the install. It clean my Ipod Touch clean, but my iTunes library was still intact so I thought all will have to do is resync it but that didn't work. I tried and tried. I disconnected my external HD. Oh yeah by the way this is a new computer that I just bought and last night was the first time I used iTunes on it so I had to populate my library using iGadget.
Anyway, I realized that I didn't have manually manage my iTunes library unchecked I unchecked it and it began to sync the back up copy I had of my library. Did either of you back up your library before installing 2.02? Do you have a place where most of your music is stored outside of iTunes? You cannot have Manually manage library checked it won't restore if you do. Be aware though 96% of my cover art was gone with this restore. How annoying. I don't know if this is the information you were looking for but I hope I have been able to shed some light on the issue. -
Bios recovery for HP dv5-1235dx/Vista (64-bit) crashed during update
My HP Pavillion dv5-1235dx which ran windows vista (64-bit) crashed while updating bios (after my old bios was deleted). I have tried the start+b+power trick to recover but that option did not work. HP Support suggests to create a usb key to install bios, however I have repeatedly failed in recovering/installing bios because the instructions are very limited. They mention a "create a usb key" option that I have yet to find that would make the key. After using the HP UEFI BIOS Update SoftPAQ and extracting files from the bios .exe file, I found the following:
1 folder (sp45138) with contents below
3602F21.fd
3603F21.fd
ding (wave sound)
InsydeFlash (application)
InsydeFlash (text document)
iscflash.dll
iscflash.sys
iscflashx64.sys
platform (configuration settings)
So, my questions are as follows:
Where is the mystery "create a usb key" button?
What files should I have installed on my usb drive?
Does anything have to be renamed or formatted?
Thanks for any help given!Hello Ceelion21. I understand you're trying to recover your computer from a failed BIOS flash.
I see this question get asked a lot so I have made sure to bookmark the instructions which I found on another website. Here is a link.
You should be able to download the BIOS file from HP Support. I believe you'll need to use an application such as 7-Zip to extract the BIOS file and locate the *.FD file.
If this doesn't work you'll likely need to have the notebook repaired. If you'd like to inquire about a repair through HP Support and are in the US/Canada you can give them a call at 1-800-474-6836. If you're in another part of the world you'll need to visit HP Support Worldwide to get your region's contact information.
Let me know the result of the BIOS recovery. I hope you have an excellent night!
Please click the white star under my name to give me Kudos as a way to say "Thanks!"

IMac Crash after Updating to 10.6.8
Hello. I have a 24" iMac that was working fine until I updated to 10.6.8. Immediately after updating it crashed and gave me the power off box in the center. After doing that several times I also got "the gray veil of death" that scrolled down slowly and then my screen was solid gray except for a multi-line message in the upper left (looked like old DOS). It had a mixture of messages and code (i.e. 00x589045, etc.). Occasionally it would have a variety of messages. After rebooting repeatedly I finally got my system back. Then I backed it up using Timemachine. After I rebooted it started all over. My peripherals were the standard wireless apple keyboard and a Logitech wireless mouse (USB Wireless) but nothing spectacular. During the reboot sequence I'd get the message to send to Apple, then the next one reporting the issue. About 30 seconds later I'd get the gray veil of death again and the power down and reboot command.
I call Apple support today and reloaded the Snow Leapard system. Everything seemed fine, backed up again just to be sure, then started updating the system again. Whole thing started all over again. Now I can't even get it to boot up once properly. I'll probably end up taking it in, but was wondering if anyone else had the same issue and what they did to resolve it. Haven't found an update released for the recent update, so now I'm stuck until I exchange it or they fix it.
Again, thanks for help if you're familiar with this problem specifically after the 10.6.8 update.Thank you for the input. I really appreciate the help. I downloaded the Bluetooth update and tried it. I've pretty much isolated it to the Bluetooth or wireless mouse functions, as both of them cause the gray screen drop and crash. The update didn't fix it but at least I'm narrowing it down.

Itunes crash during update all apps or even a few apps at a time in windows
My itunes crashes when I click "update all apps" or even when I just update manually a few apps at a time. Its not related to the version of itunes it seems the issue has occured during the passed few versions. I've tried logging off the store account and relogging in. I've reinstalled itunes. I've uninstalled all apple programs from the pc and itunes and reinstalled everything fresh. I've deleted the library files and let itunes create new ones and the issue still persists. Any ideas?
ThanksHi dj_alien,
If you are having an issue with iTunes for Windows quitting unexpectedly during use, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

PC crash during update of iPod
I have an iPod touch 3G that I received for Christmas 2009 that I had connected to my PC (Windows XP Pro) for re-syncing files and was notified of an update to the iPod software. I started the download and during the update process my PC overheated and shut down. Now the iPod is always showing the Apple icon (the power switch does not turn the unit off) and the PC no longer recognizes the device when I attach it with the cable. Is there a way to reload the OS, or is my iPod toast?
Ok but frankly speaking this is very inefficient way of resolving this kind of issue. (Thankfully it doesn't require a reinstallation of OS)
Btw, I cleaned up some folders in Adobe install folder (also updated OS to 10.8.2, not because Aam crashed but due to other reasons) and now I'm through this issue
Thanks for the support! -
IMac crashed while updating today and I can't find my reboot disk
Hello, I have an iMac that was purchased Feb 2014 and when it was trying to install the latest update today (March 12, 2015) it crashed. Like, I can't get it to boot at all. unless I have the reboot disk. The problem is, I can't find my reboot disk. I have my reboot disks from my 2 MacBook Pro's and from my MacBook Air, but I can't find my iMac disk.
This happened, of course, 6 days after my warranty has expired so I get no support from Apple...geeze. Any suggestions and/or helps would be GREATLY appreciated.
CameronWhile in the recovery mode, select the Terminal app from the Utilities menu, and copy & paste the following lines, one at a time, followed by hitting the return key. After the first, you should get a Password: prompt. Carefully, type in your admin password, since nothing shows on the screen, and hit the return key:
sudo chflags 0 /volumes/*
sudo chmod a+rx /volumes/*
These should unlock the HD.
