IMac crushing when simultaneously online + listening iTunes + playing chest

I have a brand new iMac ( 2.4 GHZ, Intel Core 2 Duo, OS X 10.5.4). Purchased on August this year in Beijing, China.
Each and every time I am simultaneously online + listening to iTunes + playing chest my iMac crushes !
This happens always when above three things (applications) are run together.
During the "crush" all applications are on hold, you can't use keyboard neither the mouse and there is this load and continues sound " dum dum dum..." which you can't in anyway turn off or reduce its volume. The only way to get iMac " back" is to turn it OFF !!
Now this is not really a thing that you would expect to have on the new iMac.
Local Apple services provider has no clue what seems to be the problem.
Anyone out there with a clue how to fix this issue?

Out of 1 GB memory I still have 560MB free of use.
I do understand that application use some memory, but this is brand new iMac!
I do not use it for any gaming, don't download any music or movies from Internet. So having such bizarre problem makes me wonder. Specially when in Beijing there is no real Apple service provider. Everyone talks about " unstable softwares" or "reseting system" (sic !!). I did not buy a PC!
So the question remains. Unless my iMac is one of the million that requires to add RESET BUTTON.

Audacity crashes when trying to listen to play back and current track.

Hello,
When I try to have a track recording and one playing back audacity crashes. When I try to listen to what i'm playing and record at the same time it also crashes. This is an arch 64 system, I get no errors dumped to a terminal or in the kernel logs but it does occasionally complain about some latency problem.
Anybody had any trouble or have any ideas how to fix this. Or alternatively what's everybody else using for recording guitars etc.

I've been using traverso-git 20090603-1 and have had no problems, x86_64 and Openbox. But I only have maybe 2 hours total using it for recording, 10-15 minutes at a time. I have enjoyed using it as an editor, with much more time on it.

My wife and I recently started sharing the same iMac computer. I was already on it with my 4s and iPad 2 but we both recently switched to iPhone 5. hers works fine with the iMac but when I plug in iTunes freezes why?

It will not let my iPad Mini plug in I think it has somthing to do with us have 2 Apple ID's running on the same computer. Anyone have any advice or know what the real problem is?

Your question is almost too much a personal one, begging the question "do we (husband and wife) feel comfy sharing one account on the Mac" maybe thats why nobody answered you.
It doesnt complicate anything, but it adds steps for switching accounts on the Mac/ purchases etc. of course
since your question is mostly personal, ..I wont answer THAT part of it, but creating a new account is easy.....messing with switching back and forth is also a personal preference 'issue' as well. I prefer to keep things simple, but...........you and yours, I dont know.......

You assumed correctly, and it should continue to play the rest of the album in order. Does this happen to all your albums. Have you tried restarting the tv.

Why doesn't iTunes know when I've listened to a podcast on my iPhone?

Here's a problem that's always plagued my apple experience. Today I downloaded and listened to several podcasts at work. When I came home itunes has no reccord of these podcasts ever being downloaded or ever listened too. I hate it!!!!
I don't know if I'm missing something here but it's kind of a pain in the but because I have to manually go into itunes and "mark them as played". I'd really like it if I listened to a podcast on any of my devices, they would all talk to eachother. That's one of the detials I'e always liked about apple is that all their pieces work well together, except this.
Does anyone know of a solution?

Select setup as "New", the next screen should prompt you to rename your phone. Just name it what you already have it named. After that, you should be able to sync/backup and all of your data & settings will still be exactly as you've already set them up on your phone. That message is more threatening than what really happens.

Keeping iTunes playing when changing user account

Hi,
I would like to setup a "music" account on our family iMac to select music from within iTunes and send it to our sound system. I'm tired of always having to reshelf CDs!
But for this to work, we need to be able to switch to our own account when we want to use the iMac while iTunes continue playing to the sound system. I did not find any option that may allow me to do this and right now it stops playing as soon as we switch to another account using "fast user switching".
We have Snow Leopard and iTunes 10.0.1.
My other option is to buy a second hand iPod to do this, but I hesitate buying one just for this when my iMac seems perfectly able to handle the task.

It seems AirTunes has been renamed AirPlay. It is not stated that it will keep playing even when I change user account, so I am glad you were able to provide this bit of information. Your suggestion to get an Airport Express appears to be the most realistic and cheap option. As for the AppleTV, it would have been more versatile (music to my sound system, video content to my TV via HDMI), except that my sound system is very old (but still works well) and has no optical audio in, which is the only audio output option for an AppleTV, if I understand well.
It would have been nice though to have the audio out of the mac connected into my sound system and just tell iTunes to keep playing music in the background even when changing user.

Some AAC files are truncated when iTunes plays them

When I had iTunes 6, I went through and converted all my MP3's to AAC using the Advanced > Convert Selection to AAC option. When I upgraded to iTunes 7, it stopped handling some AAC files correctly. When they play, they get almost to the end, then abruptly stop and the next song plays. Quicktime handles these files perfectly, and plays them through the end.
A. Why is this happening? (Are they encoded badly? I feel like this can't be the case, since I've only used iTunes to encode my files, and Quicktime handles them fine)
B. How can I fix it?

Actually, no I don't have crossfade playback on. The files cut out anywhere from 5 - 60 seconds before the file is supposed to finish, it really has nothing to do with crossfade...

Do you think that upgrading to Mountain lion would stop my computer from bouncing back up to the top when I scroll down. This happens mostly when in Safari online. Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year.Then see if you can connect to the store.

The Mac App Store has apps for Mac computers. The iTunes Store does not. You must be running 10.6.8 or later to access the App Store. The App Store is on your computer in the Applications folder and on the Dock.

You are currently managing your music manually. You can either sync or manage the music manually, not both. If you want to sync, all the music currently on your phone will be erased and replaced with whatever you decide to sync to it.

When selecting a song to play in iTunes, I get an error message indicating the song could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it. I have no idea where to look since the library hold all my files.

It would help to have more background about your iTunes collection such as if you keep it on an external drive, or if you have moved or renamed anything recently. iTunes is very sensitive to you renaming or moving files or folders involved with your media. iTunes only keeps a reference to where a media file is located and then goes to look for it when you try to play it. If you have changed things since it was added to itunes then it's like me sending you to look for a friend in my addressbook but that friend has moved.
The other possibility is your computer is starting to lose files. Again, the computer uses a reference database to tell it where on the drive to look for a file. If that database gets corrupt then it starts losing files. Use Dsk Utility's first aid to verify your hard drive.

Its not telling you to update your iPad, its telling you you need to download a recent version itunes on your computer.

I just purchased the iPhone 4S today so I know it's not the phone. How can I get my information back?

If it's corrupt, generally it would be lost.
However, there is third-party software out there that can retrieve some of the data, those of which however I could not recommend as I have never done so myself.
Also, if the old 4S was running a more recent software version than the current 4S, that may cause the issue however usually iTunes tells you exactly that.
Good luck in retrieving that information.
