Imac dead and won't turn on after lightning storm

Lightning fried my mac; its dead and won't turn on, in spite of having a surge protector; my question is what part is likely damaged; and what does a repair cost without Apple Care.?
Thanks

Hi rasperryaddiction!
I was wondering if you've tried resetting the SMC (support.apple.com/kb/HT3964). It's very simple to try before considering having the computer repaired. If it really doesn't turn on after resetting the SMC, then contact any Apple Authorized Service Provider or and Apple store near you.  Tell them what happened to check if they can give you a quote or something buy, they might ask you to bring it in to confirm the issue. It really does depend on which part was affected.

Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least 15 minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.

If the iPhone did not turn on, try resetting it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter. To reset, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until either the Apple logo or the battery symbol appears.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Restore the iPhone.   Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. • IPhone 4 is dead and won't turn on

Can anyone help?  iPhone 4 is dead and won't turn on.  It was fully charged when it died.

    Hi
I have pretty much the same problem. iphone 4, just over a year old ( so no longer under my service providers guarantee apparently !) Was using facebook with full battery and it just went black. I've tried hard-reseting holding the buttons for a full two minutes: nothing. Tried to connect to itunes: not recognised. It has crashed several times recently using facebook but always gone to homepages.
Can anyone out there help us ?

  • Battery is full. Phone went dead and won't turn on?

Battery is full. Phone went dead and won't turn back on even when plugged in.

Press and hold both the home and lock buttons until the apple logo appears.

  • IPhone went dead and won't turn back on

My iPhone 5 was a refurbished phone that I received under warranty in November. However, it worked fine until last week when it started turning off at 50% and below (which is the same reason why I had to get this refurbished phone in the first place). But because it immediately turned back on, I thought nothing of it and ignored it. However, my phone went dead two days ago and won't turn back on. I've used two chargers that worked the day of, but it wouldn't charge with either of those and those wouldn't even connect my phone to my laptop. So, thinking and hoping it was both of the cords malfunctioning, I went out and bought another cord. My phone still won't turn on, Apple Support refuses to help in any way because my warranty out, and I'm lost.

Plug it in to a wall outlet so it has power, then do a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.

  • IPhone 4 bricked and won't turn on after 4.1 update!

    Hey guys
    Hoping someone has any tips.
Last night I update from 4.02 to 4.1. The update installed just fine. As soon as I unplugged my phone from the computer, the screen went black, as if it was turned off.
Nothing I have done turns it back on. Neither the power or the Home buttons do anything. I've tried doing a hard reset and nothing. I even held the buttons for over a minute.
So I tried connecting it to the wall charger as well as back on the computer. It still doesn't turn on at all.
Do I just need to get it replaced?

Ok, so I went to try that and run the program it said I needed .Net Framework 4.0 installed, so I was on my way to update that so I could try to run the program.
Anyway, before I did that, a coworker comes by and I show her that my phone is dead. I unplug it from my computer (it's not charging or anything) and I start pressing the power button rapidly to show her it's dead. All of a sudden the screen turns on and shows me that the battery is drained and needs to be recharged. I quickly connect my phone back to the computer and it begins charging. After a few minutes the Apple logo appear and it is detected on my computer! It is currently charging and is seen in iTunes. All is well again.
What's weird is that I know for a FACT that the battery was not dead when the update was done. In fact the phone showed FULL battery right before I unplugged it the first time.
I don't know if it was a combination of the steps above or what, but whatever it was, I appreciate everyone's input.

  • Macbook freezes and won't turn on after using itunes and going to standby

My macbook pro "locks up" when I am using Itunes and I let my computer go to sleep or to standby mode. It won't turn back on without manually shutting it down and restarting the computer. I have had hardware diagnostics done on it and they all report back fine. If anyone knows how to fix this issue it would be greatly appreciated!!!

The computer may think it is syncing with the iPod while you are attempting to go to sleep, thus is stuck trying to know what to do. Try dismounting the iPod first, and then disconnecting it, and then putting it to sleep.

  • My iPhone lock button is broken..and now the phone is dead and won't turn on! Help!?

So the lock button on my iPhone 4 is broken, 100%, and the battery died earlier today, when I plug it in, it usually turns on if it has been dead...I tried doing this for hours and nothing happened, I plugged it into 3 different chargers thinking that might be the problem. And since there isn't a apple store close to me, I went to AT&T and they told me I need to do some type of restart (I forget what it's called) it is where you hold down the home and lock button at the same time, but as you can see that wont work since my lock button Is broken. Is there ANYTHING else I can do to fix it!?

Looks like a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...
Be sure to make an appointment first...

  • IMac g5 intel won't turn on after crashing

Computer crashed while syncing to Apple TV. Will not turn on. Re-connected the power cord to reset, no luck. Tried different power cord. No luck. Have everything backed up on external.

Are you getting a chime or any beeps? If nothing, that's a sign the power supply might be shot. The chime indicates the POST (Power On Self Test) has passed. Different beeps might point to a diagnosis.
The computer power-on self-test tests the computer to make sure it meets the necessary system requirements and that all hardware is working properly before starting the remainder of the boot process.
If it were just the hard drive that died, you would most likely get a fashing folder with a question mark.

  • I want to turn my macbook air off. the shut down button already appeared but the mouse/cursor just hang and won't work. even after pressing the enter button to shut my mac off won't work. what will i do?

i want to turn my macbook air off. the shut down button already appeared but the mouse/cursor just hang and won't work. even after pressing the enter button to shut my mac off won't work. what will i do?

This is not a reply. I just want to elaborate on this problem.
My computer freezes occasionally when it is used after being sleep for a while. The spinning ball appears and everything is totally disabled. Nothing on the keyboard works.
The mouse moves, but does not work.
The only solution is to turn the power off and on (losing all data in open applications.)
I kept the System monitor running on the side to find out which program was running when the computer froze. The Monitor as well as all other applications froze, but the data showed:
    Firefox 18.4%
    Activity Monitor 0.9%
    Firefox Plugin 0.2%
This is all the information I have. By the way, I am using iMac with OS 10.6.

No that’s probably what I’ll do. I'm thinking the guys at the apple store can only do basic technical support since most of them are sales people that don't know how to physically repair phones. It seems kinda silly that, as fine as a product the iPhone is, when something like this happens they just tell you to replace the entire device without doing any proper diagnostic. If it was any other phone you could simply take it to a cell phone repair shop and they'll usually fix it. It’s almost as though Apple assumes their products will never fail so that when they do, the only solution is to replace the entire device at a cost higher then it would be if it was just a simple fix. So hopefully the local cell repair shop can do something instead of having to replace the entire phone. I'll accept the fact if I have to replace it after taking it to a few places and having some real technicians look at it, instead of a 5 minute trial and error diagnostic done by a sales associate at the apple store being quick to tell me that the phone is useless and has to be replace for several hundreds of dollars.

  • I turn my iMac on and it starts ok but after a minute the monitor goes black

Then, contact the Apple repair station that did the work.

  • Macbook Pro suddenly shuts off. screen goes black and won't turn off till after a few hours.

    Hi everyone!
So I've had this problem from my macbook since months ago. It sometimes just shuts off by itself, the screen turning black and won't turn on until like after a few hours (sometimes a day, but sometimes you could also immediately open it just like that.)
When it shuts off and you plug the adapter it is still charging, the lights on the side of the macbook book still lights up just fine if you press the button on the side. the only problem is that it wont open until after a few minutes, hours or days (very unpredictable) (also tapping the macbook helps, I dont know if it "really" helps or not, but it works sometimes.) But when it open it will be working fine until another couple of weeks or 3 or a month (again unpredictable)
I dont know what's wrong with my laptop, please help me. It would be greatly appreciated! thank you so much in advance!

Hold the power button down for 10+ seconds.  Then bring the MBP to an Apple store for an evaluation.
    Ciao.
