IMac debate opinion wanted
Hello all..
I currently own a Mac Pro ( 1 year old 2.66 base model with 1 gig of ram ) and love it.. have had no problems at all with it..
I will soon be moving .. and may not have "room" for multiple monitors, the tower etc..
I do not do any gaming per say.. ( tiger woods golf occasionally) .. However I do a bit of drawing and rendering ( Carrera pro, Bryce, Photoshop, Poser )
I am debating trying to sell my Mac Pro / buying a iMac 24 inch and a MacBook Pro laptop ..
Will the new iMac hold up ok running these types of programs..?
I really like the how the iMac is compact and "tidy" ( and it really looks good too ) ..
are the graphics as good as the nvidia 7300gt in the Mac Pro ..? how does it compare etc..
I couldnt find out on the information page.. does the iMac have wifi ?
May sound like dumb questions.. but a considerable amount of money to spend.. so I thought I would ask you guys..
I would love to have a iMAc and a MacBook Pro .. and be completely wireless but I need to make sure that it is nearly as good as the Mac Pro for what I do..
other than what I mentioned I do not really do anything special with the computer..

Well for one your Mac Pro has more options for upgrade ability. It also has 4 cores compared to the iMac's 2 cores. With that said most standard applications may not benefit from the extra cores but I imagine the ones you mentioned using will. Overall I'd say the iMac should be able to handle those apps without any problems. The only one I have used personally though is Photoshop CS3. I'd say the Radeon 2600HD is at least on par with the 7300gt however I'd take the 7600gt over the 2600. Yes the iMac has wifi and bluetooth. My 2.8GHz is more than enough for what I do.

And if you do decide to get an iMac or MacBook Pro do yourself a favor get the base RAM configuration from Apple and get your RAM from OWC it's much cheaper.

I have Movies on my iMac that I want to share with Apple TV. I have no problem getting the movies to show up and play on Apple TV. However, when I synch my iPhone to to my iMac all of the movies try to synch to the iPhone and this exceeds the available capacity (32) of the iPhone. So the question is, how do I make the movies available on Apple TV but not synch to my iPhone?
I looked around some more on my iPhone and did find a video app. So all is well.

I just bought a new IMAC and I want to install the Office Mac 2011, but it doesn´t have a CD unit. How can I do it?
Howard has the easiest answer. Or at least, cheapest, since you don't need to purchase an external CD/DVD drive.
The "demo" software from Microsoft's site is exactly the same as what's on the DVD. Install that and activate it with the key in your software box.

There are two options for installing Office for Mac if your Mac doesn't have a DVD drive.

I have CS6 on my iMac. I want to load it onto an external drive to use off my Mac Air. I have the serial number. How do I do this without having to subscribe to CC?

Hi!
I have a WD my book external hard drive plugged into my imac and I want to share it over my network with my apple tv. I went into system preferences > sharing, checked "file sharing" and added my external hard drive to the shared folder. So now it is listed in "shared folders" but under "users" everything is grayed out (it says "read and write" for "everyone" - but "read and write" is grayed out, and it doesn't let me add or subtract users). Now I can access all of the folders I shared from my imac except for the externalhard drive. If you don't have it then you will have to reinstall Lion:

Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.

Hello I formatted my iMac today and wanted to download iphoto again but after i press the button to install it in the app store nothing happens! same with the yosemite upgrade.. In the iPhoto ratings there are alot of other people facing this problem I hope somebody can help me. thank you in advance
If you have OS X 10.6.8 as you state you can not get iphoto form the App store - you must have Yosemite OS X 10.10. installed to download iphoto 9.6 from the App store
If Nothing happens then you need to contact App store support - link is on the right of the App store window

My iPHone is connected to my iMac, and I want to transfer files from iMace to IPhone. Instructions say to go to iTunes, look under Devices for my Device. I do so, and no devices are listed. How do I get iTunes to recognize my iPhone?
Make sure your iMac is on 10.6.8 or higher and your iTunes is up to date. If it is, then restart your computer, open iTunes, then plug in your device. If it still is not showing up, follow the steps listed here: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X

I just bought a new iMAC. I want to set a password. But, the system seems to think I already have one set, and I don't know what it is. How do I reset this feature, so that I can set a password, without knowing the current password?
Have you yet, during setting up the new iMac, transferred old data and settings from an external hard drive or another computer? If so, then your computer obtained its current set Password from that tranfer, so you would have to determine what that Password was in the old system. If you have Not transferred any information that way, then the installation and/or setup seem to have corrupted somehow since it hasn't yet received a new system Password selection from you.
At this point, if you can, you can reboot while holding down the Command - R keys to boot into the Mountain Lion Recovery Partition. There you can select to "Reinstall Mountain Lion from the Internet". This will overwrite your current installation and any problems that have occured and give you a fresh install that hopefullywill allow you to set up without problems. -

OK I think I have it figured out! In iTunes you must check mark the mp3 files you want on the ipad 2 then sync to the iPad , also if you have files on the iPad you want to keep they must be checked as well or they WILL go away! That is how I lost the ones I had on the iPad in the first place.

I have Premier Elements 12 and recently changed my computer to an iMac. I want to re-register my software on the iMac but the Adobe system won't let me. Anyone have an answer? Cheers Brian

I did not see your post 4 until after I had posted just now.
That is one of the drawbacks related to purchasing Premiere Elements as a download from Adobe...the download is specific to the Windows or Mac operating system to which it is downloaded. So all you have purchased that way are the installation files and a serial number for Premiere Elements 12 Windows. If you had purchased Premiere Elements 12 in the box packaging, that comes with a disc for Windows and a disc for Mac.
How long ago did you purchase Premiere Elements 12 Windows? If within 30 days of purchase, you can look into a 30 day money back from Adobe. But you cannot purchase the box packaging from Adobe. It only offers the download purchase from it. You would have to buy from an authorized reseller if you wanted the boxed purchase.
The way it is now, you will need to purchase new installation files and serial number for Premiere Elements 12 for your iMac.
That is the situation that I believe exists. More information if needed.

That is precisely the WRONG thing to do. You should never delete, but uninstall.
Now you need to look for, download and run the Adobe CS Cleaner tool.
