IMac display for a PC

Does anyone know how I can hook up a PC to my iMac display. I know by purchsing eyeTV you can hook media devices, but is there hardware available to hook up a PC through and A/B switch or something to the like?

What you can do is to network the computers together and download Microsoft's free remote desktop for mac, which lets you open your pc as a window on the imac and control it from your mac keyboard.
The imac has no video in, though, so you can't use it as just a monitor for another computer, mac or pc, as Jürgen said.

IMac display for nintendo?

The neighboring lab to mine is cleaning out their closets and I notices that they were trashing an old iMac. I inquired and found out that the motherboard is destroyed and the hard drive is actually dented, so I think that resuscitating it and using it as a computer is out of the question. However, I was thinking that since the monitor is fine, I would use it to play nintendo with a recently yard-sale-bought 8-bit nintendo. Is there a way to co-opt the monitor to accept those red, yellow, and white cables so that I can pop a normal input up on there? I am somewhat handy with a screwdriver and other shop-type tools, so I am ready to mod if anyone knows what to do.

Look at the bottom of page three for the pinouts.
But CRTs use very high voltage to operate, and it is dangerous to expose the back end of the CRT, plus you would have to get everything perfect or it might go up in smoke.
It is in two parts. The top is an enclosed crt. The bottom is a tray that comes off. There is the exposed down converter.
I am not knowledgeable about high voltage crts. I would think interfacing to the video cable would be less dangerous.

Using iMac display for other stuff?

The 24" iMac screen has full HD 1680X1050 Display. Can I use that display like maybe connecting an Xbox 360 with a VGA cable. Is it possible to do that?

There is no video input port. So you cannot do it directly.
However, there are numerous USB interface devices on the market. You connect the video signal to the USB device and it feeds into the iMac over USB 2.0. Then you run software to process or display the signal in a window on the screen (or go +full screen+ ). Here are some companies with such products.

Can Imac display sleep when streaming to HDTV?

I've got a 27" i7 quad core. I'm using a KANEX adapter to feed minidisplayport and USB audio to my HDTV via HDMI. Works great!
Question: When running content from the iMAC to the HDTV for long periods (i.e. streaming movies and such), is there a way to make the iMAC display itself sleep or go black, since there is no reason for it to be on since I'm watching the TV screen?
These new imacs tend to run hot anyway, so if I can turn off the imac display for hours when I'm watching it off the TV, that would seem a good idea, if possible.
If it were a macbookpro, I'd just shut the cover, and that would do it, but...it's not.

If you use Front Row to view you multimedia content it should automatically put the iMac's display to sleep. Many other media apps do this as well. You might look for a preference to do this if it does not do it by default with the app that you are using.

RECALL on 27" iMac Display due to Dimming?

Following is a copy of a message I sent to Apple about my iMac. I am very frustrated about this issue and I seriously think it warrants investigation, I have found many cases of this online, anyone else have this problem here?
I have had an issue with my 27" iMac display for quite some time, because I thought it was a software issue with the "auto dim" I did not notify anyone about it. however, I brought it into the Apple Store in the Domain in Austin Texas at the end of January to have the hard drive replaced under the recall. While there I mentioned to the young lady at the Genius Bar that my display would dim just slightly, and I thought it was a setting issue, she said they would look at it, but most likely it would be resolved with the replacement of the Hard drive. Ok, new hard drive, new OS, makes sense. When I returned to pick up my computer, the rep said they ran diagnostics on it and could find no problems, however when I got home, it was still happening, I took it back to the Apple store on Feb 16 and was told there was a problem with the displays and it needed to be replaced for approximately $520.00, because it was out of warranty by 134 days. Upon further research I have found that this is not a random occurrence, and there are MANY MANY cases of this exact problem scattered throughout the forums, and Ironically they all seem to be on the left side of the screen. I find it hard to believe that a computer that costs almost $2000.00 can have a display go out in a little more than a year. I think that you should look seriously at the issues these displays are having, this should be a recall, at the very least voluntary. There is no reason that a display should fail in this amount of time. I want you to understand, I am an Apple guy, I was born and raised on windows, but became a die hard Apple guy after I received my first MBP as a hand me down from a friend. I have owned every single iPhone there is, Have two Mac Book Pros, iPad, six iPhones, and this 27"iMac. I am a pro photographer and this is seriously a problem. PLEASE look at this issue, I will not buy another Apple product until this is resolved. There are way too many failures out there for this to not be a defect.

Is there a recommended display profile for such work?
Are there any good hardware or software solutions to assist in getting the color I want to see later on dvd or film?

Use 21.5 inch mid 2010 imac as a display for 2013 macbook air?

I would like to use my 21.5 inch mid 2010 imac as a display for my 2013 macbook air. I tried using Screen Recycle, however I would prefer more of a monitor situation than a side-by-side extra screen situation. Ideally with my wireless keyboard and mouse. Can I use my iMac as a 'display' for my MacBook Pro?

Hi all, I am really hoping someone can help me here.
I am wondering if I can use my 24" iMac as a display for my MacBook Pro (both running Snow Leopard).
It's my father's 80th birthday party in about 24 hours time. I am doing up the music and slideshow (thanks Apple - so easy!).
My plan was to simply take my iMac and use it. However, I managed to drop the wireless keyboard (darn those dogs) and now my keyboard won't work. I have no backup keyboards here (gave the wired one to Dad to use with his Mac mini). I live in a country area with no access to a Mac store and it will take more than 24 hours to get a new one. Went to my local 'other computer' general store last night: I really don't want to buy an ugly black keyboard..... I have just had a great idea:
Can I network my MacBook Pro and use it as the source for the slide show and simply use the iMac as a display? I have plenty of DVI adaptors but am just not sure how I would go about the software side of things? Or should I simply buy an ugly PC keyboard (and if I do, will the WIndows button work as an Apple button???)

The imac 24 can't be used as a monitor over a DVI connection or the like, Suzanne, but you may be able to achieve what you want to using "Screen Sharing" by networking the two computers. This lets your MBP effectively control what is running on the iMac.
See HERE for the basic setup. For information about how to access the "shareable" screen from the MBP see HERE.
One possible problem may be actually getting this set-up on the iMac if it is not already enabled, however, unless you can borrow a keyboard from someone (your password may have to be entered to enable it). You may be able to get around this, if necessary, using the "keyboard viewer" (which you can place in the menubar using System preferences > Keyboard, if you don't already have it there).

If your iMac has got Mini-DVI, you have a 17, 20 or 24-inch iMac that doesn't support Target Display. Late 2009 and Mid 2010 27-inch iMacs, and iMacs with Thunderbolt can be used as external displays. Read > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
If your old iMac doesn't support Target Display mode, you can use ScreenRecycler to use your old iMac as an extended display for the new iMac. The only thing you need is that both Macs are connected to the same network

It's not possible. You can use the iMac as a display for the MBP, but the reverse is not possible. The MBP does not have Target Display Mode as a feature and no third-party app nor hack can enable something that doesn't exist. The only way to accomplish this will be one of the network solutions.

If the Display supports DVI, then you will need a > Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter and a DVI cable.
If the Display only supports VGA, then you wiil need a > Mini DVI to VGA Adapter and a VGA cable.
Noting that the (digital) DVI is far better than the (analog) VGA connection.

My 17" iMac display is full of vertical lines, it is unuseable. Does anyone know how to use the second display for Mac OS X or disable the first display for installation Mac OS x ?

Go to: *System Preferences > Displays* and select the Arrangement tab, then relocate your Menu bar by dragging it to the other display.
Unfortunately there is no Hardware or Software switch to turn off the iMac's Internal Display.

Sorry, but you probably can't. The current and previous generation of iMac can only be used as displays with other Thunderbolt-equipped systems.

Only if your PC has a Thunderbolt port that supports video out would this be possible, and such systems are currently rather rare.
