IMac Display -- White band across screen

I recently noticed a white band across the top half of my screen. The line is about 3-5 tall and runs the entire width of the screen. This is incredibly annoying. The so-called Genius at the Apple store said I would have to pay about $800 to replace the display, which is ridiculous. It is time that Apple match product quality with design quality or fix these problems.

I have the same issue.. although it isn't terribly noticeable yet... It has crept up using this computer for a month. The computer has only been in use for 1-1/2 months. I have multiple band running width wise down the entire screen.

  • Blank white band across bottom of screen

Sometimes when I turn on my new MacBook there is a thick (more than 1" wide) blank, white band across the bottom of the screen, and the rest of the screen display is squeezed (elongated) into the remaining space. If I then put the MacBook to sleep and wake it up, the screen returns to normal.
Any idea what is going on? And what I should do?
It occurs to me that my MacBook might be "confused" because I sometimes use it with an external monitor and sometimes I don't..... Coudl that be the explanation?
    thanks!
    Peter

I am still having this problem. It especially occurs when I am not connected to my external monitor and running off the battery. Has nobody else had this problem? Does anybody know what the problem is?
    Thanks.

  • TS2771 My Ipod touch displays white lines across the screen.  I've turned it on and off but still shows up HELP!!!

My Ipod touch displays white lines across my entire screen.  I've turned it on and off and it still hasn't cleared up.HELP!?!

    Try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod
If you still have the problem that points to a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • 23" imac has pixelated waves across screen then freezes

I think there is soemthing wrong with the display and anyone has experienced this? I googled and can't find anything to do with this. I don't know what to call it-- wave pixelated display problem?
The screen suddenly shows waves onscreen and i can't do anytihng except force it to shut down.
I have 4 gb 800 mhz DDR2 SDRAM. This computer is old, so I am feeling it is a hardware problem. It has happedn 3 times within 3 hours. It started when I tried to go back in Time Machine to retrieve a file. Then, the next forced reboot was the screen above, then the third time was in my husband's log-in.
I would think I have to make an appt with Apple Genius bar tomorrow.

Have you even heard about this issue before and help me find proper terms in order to search? That is what I am asking before I haul this heavy machine to the Apple store. The nearest apple store is less than 3 miles.
I don't have a warranty(long since expired), nor Apple care, etc. This computer is about 4 years old. I don't even know how to describe this in the search to begin with. I did a search on apple's help section and Googling but nothing comes up that matches this issue. You're not helping me by sending me to imac product FAQ.

  • Flickering white bars across screen

my friend's daughter's 4th generation touch went from operating normally to racing/static like white bars across the screen.
touch pad still responded - we tried to restart as well as restore to factory setting with no improvement
now when trying to start up from restore screen freezes, with white bars, on location enable question.
    please help

When restoring to factory defaults/new iPod fails to solve the problem thne you likely ahve an hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order or acll AppleCare if under warranty.

  • Black spot and white stripe across screen

Okay well it's my brothers ipod, and I have no idea what the heck he did to it. But he left it on his dresser and woke up with the black spot and white stripe across the screen. After reading one of the posts, is it possibily moisture or water? But I have no idea how the black blotch thingy got there. Any ideas on what it is? And how I can fix it?

  • Strange display problem band through screen -=Pictures included=-

I bought a refurb intel imac and had it delivered on May 30th. June 2nd, I brought the computer in to the apple store to repair the bleeding backlight on the LCD (corners were very bright); I just picked it up again on June 5th.
At first, I was very impressed with the turnaround time on the repair (3 days, 2 of which were weekend days). However, once I got the imac home & set up again, I was disappointed to see a thick discoloured bar down the entire vertical length of the screen!
The band is really strange; it changes colours depending on what colour is on top of it, and seems to flicker. I've determined that it only appears when the display is set on "millions of colours", not "thousands" or "256". I've also tried resetting the PRAM with no luck...
What are my options here? Is there an easy fix that I can try myself? Or is it more likely that the Apple store techs damaged something internally when they installed the new LCD? I really don't want to lug this computer back to the store, wait several more days, then lug it back home again. It's a huge inconvenience especially since the imac is all-in-one so I'm left using my old PC that was looking forward to a peaceful retirement...I just don't see any other choice...

  • White boxes across screen affecting touch sensitivity

My iPhone 5 unfortunately has been diagnosed with an internal hardware issue that causes a horizontal pattern of white boxes to be displayed across my screen. The touch sensiviity is also affected where the white boxes are displayed, so I am unable to select text, or turn certain things On and Off within my settings if the button is located on the white boxes. My problem is location services was turned off before this problem began, and now because of the touch screen problem I am unable to turn it back on since the button is displayed where the white boxes are. Is there ANY other way to enable location services without going through settings on the phone, or restoring the phone and setting it up as new. Any help would be appreciated.

Replacing it would be ideal, and an obvious solution to solving my problem here. Unfortunately I'm poor, and I can't afford to buy a new phone seing as my apple warranty has expired...which is why I am here looking for a roundabout way to keep my phone somewhat functional until I can buy a replacement or upgrade it. You're right in that there is no way (that we know of) to turn on location services without selecting it on the screen within the settings. You're wrong in that there is no way to get around the problem, because I just did. Using the zoom funtion I was able to change the placement of the button slightly, which allowed me to turn location services back on. This works for any button I was previously unable to get to within all settings or apps. Thanks for your response though.

  • Thin vertical white lines across screen

I've got what looks like white vertical pinstripes (alternating 1 and then 2 together) across my screen.  What does this indicate?  The stripes are white, and do not show up on a white background.

  • Horizontal band across screen

My iPod Nano has developed a horizontal band (about 3/4") across the bottom of the screen that blocks out the settings text. Any ideas on how to overcome this?

Other than it it needs service (as it's still under warranty).

  • White line across screen.

Here's a picture of the problem

You can see the line across the top which stays on every screen.
I haven't used my ipod in about a week and this wasn't there before. I turned it on and now this line is there. I haven't dropped it or anything.
Anyone know why it's there or how to get rid of it?

I own an iphone and 3 Ipod Classics (120GB). One of them has this problem today. It happens to be one that I always keep in a dock on my home entertainment system. It never has left the house and only leaves the dock to sync new music.
I called Apple and the girl said I should just "BUY A NEW ONE". I said "WHAT". Basically when it came down to it she said "STUFF HAPPENS". I made calls and was finally told I would have to pay to ship it in for repairs that may take up to 6 months and would have to pay for return shipping and there were NO promises that they could or would repair it.
Nice racket you have going Apple.
I have a technical blog with over 4,000 regular users...any guesses what my topic of conversation is going to be for some time to come?
