IMac doesn't recognise keyboard (wireless and usb)

Hi!
I've seen similar posts, but non had advice that helped. I'm having this problem for a weeks, before the problem everything worked perfectly. My Apple wireless keyboard start to act strange. I couldn't type some letters, so i put new batteries and still the same problem. When I type for example letter S it appears on screen as DS, the light on the shift key doesn't turn off when pressed. I have also tried to unpair it but now i can't even pair it with the computer any more.
I have bought A4tech KD-126 keyboard which was recognisable by the computer till first time i unplug it. After i tried to plug it in all usb ports, led lights on the keyboard are working but computer doesn't recognise it as a keyboard.
So I have tested other keyboard which my husband is using (A4tech KB-28G) and this only keyboard that works for now.
I want to make A4tech KD-126 keyboard working at least.
Please Help!!

Reset the NVRAM/PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try the wired keyboard again.

  • IMac doesn't recognise phone attached via usb

I have an iMac and originally I had an iPhone. For certain reasons I have had to change to a Samsung Galaxy S3.
Originally when I plugged my Samsung into the iMac via usb cable it connected without any issues, however recently when I connect it the iMac does not recognise that there is a device attached. However, the phone still charges.
I have tried this on another computer (a pc) and it is recognised, I was just wondering if anyone knows why the iMac has trouble finding the device when it had no issues originally.

Reset the NVRAM/PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try the wired keyboard again.

My iMac doesn't recognise some photos on my Kingston camera card but recigognises others. How can I get it to download the rest of my photos?

I went to the BIOS to check the power feature settings. Here's what I have set with the BIOS-offered explanation for each option:
    - ACPI BIOS IRQ--> *IRQ9*  [This field controls what IRQ the Advanced Configuration & Power Interface (ACPI) will use.]
    - ACPI Standby mode--> *S1*  [Select which power level your system goes to during standby. If S1 is selected, power is maintained to all devices but all processor activity is halted. If S3 is selected, power is maintained only for the main memory. Exit from the S3 state may not be supported by all installed adapters.]
    - Hard disk timeout--> *Enabled*  [Allows HDDs connected to the system board to automatically enter low power mode after a period of inactivity (about 20 minutes). HDD adapters may not support this function.]
    - After power loss--> *Power on*  [Select "Power on" if you use a power strip to turn the system on.]
Yesterday I think I changed one of the above but it didn't help the problem with the detection of plugged-in USB devices.
Today I turned off (disabled) Wake on LAN. This didn't help either: after plugging in one or more USB devices, I still have to open Konsole and run lsusb to wake up the system which then detects the already plugged-in USB device(s) and asks me what I want to do, what app I want to use to read or use the plugged-in USB device. This of course is only a minor annoyance-- maybe I'll never figure out or learn why this problem has been happening in my recently acquired older (2005-built) IBM ThinkCenter desktop tower.
Do you still want to see the output of # lsusb -v  ?? Tell me where on the web I can post the long output of that command. [The output won't fit in this space-limited reply form.] Also, any more ideas on what could be wrong?

Can i connect my iMac to a mac mini (wirelessly) and control the mac mini display on my TV?

Look up "screen sharing" in help
You can control your mini (which I am assuming you are hooking to your TV) complete from your iMac.
After you set up screen sharing, you can go to the finder, under the "go" menu choose "Connect to server" and then browse.  Choose your mac mini's name, and look for the "Screen Sharing" button.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Sharing.
    Select the Screen Sharing checkbox.
To specify who can share your screen, select one of the following:
    All users:
Select this if you want to allow any user with a user account on your computer to share your screen.
    Only these users:
Select this if you want to restrict screen sharing to specific users.Click Add at the bottom of the Users list and select a user from Users & Groups (accounts you have set up in Users & Groups preferences), Network Users (users on your network), or your Address Book. Or click New Person and enter a name and password to create a sharing account. Then select that user from the list, and then click Select.
Click Computer Settings and set the following options:
Anyone may request permission to control screen:
Select this to allow anyone on your network to request to share your screen.
VNC viewers may control screen with password:
Select this and enter a password that VNC viewer applications can enter in order to control your screen. It’s recommended that you not set a password if you only share this computer’s screen using the built-in screen sharing viewer in Mac OS X.

I have an HP LaserJet P1102w.  How can I set it it up to print both wireless and USB.  It is currently set up to print USB from my desktop computer.  I would like to also print from my iPad wirelessly while keeping the USB connection for the desktop.

    Hi DanC1,
I understand you would like to setup the printer on the wireless network.
I will be happy to help you.
Since the printer software is already installed then do the following steps:
Plug the printer back into the computer with the USB cable.
Then go to start, all programs, HP, Laserjet, wireless configuration wizard, follow the steps to setup the wireless. You should be able to print wirelessly now.
    Print a test page.
If you still want to use the USB connection then disconnect and reconnect the USB cable and it will add a second Icon for the printer. One will be for USB connection and one for wireless connection.
Just select the proper printer when printing.
    Hope this resolves your issue.

  • Wireless AND USB?

HP 6500A All-in-one: Can I switch between wireless and USB printing on the same laptop? Need to work around VPN.

    Hi,
I did few tests before Christmas, the results were: you will get a error (on USB printer) if connected to same machine, but should be ok if you connected USB port to other machine (w/o wireless to the printer).  In short, you still can use the printer but the logical printer on the USB port won't work.

  • IMac doesn't recognise the internal hard disk (intermittent)

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me an advice on this problem.
Background: A few days ago my iMac (20-inch MA877LL) would not boot up, it would sit on the gray screen with the wheel spinning for ever. I thought the OS might have got corrupted so I tried to re-install Snow Leopard from the CD. Installation fails with a message like 'the content of HD can not be changed'. I then went to Disk Utilities trying to repair the disk but had no luck with the repair so I decided to format the disk. I managed to get into my hard disk using the cmd R key combination at power up and backed up my essential files onto a external hard disk. I formatted/erase the hard disk (zeroed out) and tried to reinstall the Snow Leopard again. The installation failed again. Rebooted the system again and tried to re instal again but this time I got as far as the 'select the disk where you want to install Mac OS' but my Hard Disk is not listed, it's a blank list! Rebooted the maching again, tried the installation, this time it sees the hard disk but the installation fails again.
I have tried to change the boot source by hodling the 'alt' key down at power up, but I am only given the option of the CD drive with installation disk as the boot source i.e. no Har Disk. It appears that the Hard Disk is intermittently recognised and hence my problem with booting the maching when the problem started.
I am happy to purchase an internal disk to replace the existing one, but I have a feeling the actual Disk it's OK, after all I managed to access my data to back up and then format it with no problem. I just think there's a problem somewhere that intemittently doesn't recognise the Hard Disk.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

You need to have the hard drive replaced. The one that is currently installed has failed.

  • Equium L10 doesn't recognise any wireless PCMCIA card that I install

    Hi,
I've just bought a brand new Toshiba Equium L10 and I can't get any wireless card to install. I have tried different models from Belkin, Netgear and MSI, all of which work perfectly fine on other laptops but not on this one.
The L10 is a clean Windows XP SP2 build straight from the retailer and I am carrying out the following steps to install the wireless network card:
    1. Start Windows XP SP2 and log on as admin
    2. Run software for the wireless card
    3. Insert wireless card
At this stage, windows only recognises the wireless card as an ethernet adaptor and won't install the drivers. Even if I install it manually and point it specifically to the correct directory, it still fails to pick up the drivers and says that there is nothing in the directory for the hardware that I am installing.
I have the latest BIOS for the L10 and have tried all of the following to no avail:
    1. Disable USB legacy support in BIOS
    2. Disable built in ethernet
    3. Run Toshiba PC Diagnostics (reports that everything is working just fine including PCMCIA)
    4. Rebuild laptop using supplied Toshiba DVD
Does anyone have any idea what could possibly be wrong? This is driving me crazy and I've never had this kind of issue with any other laptop. Is this a known fault with Toshiba laptops and what's the fix?
Is it a Win XP SP2 problem? Is my laptop faulty?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    K.

Can you post the details of this card?
Did you contact the PCMCIA card manufacture for support? Maybe there is a new driver release for this card.
I have noticed some problems with a Vodafone PCMICA card on a Satellite P10. This card has caused a blue screen on the unit. Well, the disabling of hyper threading technology in the BIOS has solved this issue. On another cards the new driver release has also solved some strange problems.
However, what I would say is there are many things which could have a bad influence.
Firstly I would recommend to ask the card manufacture for a support.

  • Using printer as wireless and USB cable hook-up:

I have a HP 4502 e all- in-one printer and I want to use it with my old computer with a USB connection and my laptop with a wireless connection. Can I do this without having to disconnect my USB cable to my old computer?

    Hi,
YES you can have both USB and wireless connection for the same printer. For this you have to install the software on both the computers. For your laptop connect it wirelessly and for your desktop connect it through the USB cable.

  • Wireless and USB keyboard dosen´t work during boot

After rebooting my Imac the keyboard dosen´t respond in the boot phase. I get this famous blinking question mark at booting so I have to press C or D on the keyboard for options. The problem is that neither the wireless keyboard or my new USB keyboard work. I have also installed the firmware password utility, but it dosen´t get that far to ask for password, just this blinking question mark at startup. Does someone have an idea how to make the computer respond to the keyboard commands????

Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mouse: About the Bluetooth Firmware Update
    * Last Modified on: December 09, 2003
    * Article: 86493
The Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mouse software CD include a firmware updater. You can use it to update the firmware of your computer's built-in Bluetooth hardware or a D-Link DBT-120 (rev B2 or later) USB to Bluetooth adapter.
    About the Bluetooth Firmware Update
For optimal performance of the Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mouse, you should install the Bluetooth Firmware Update. The firmware update can improve the performance of the mouse and keyboard by decreasing connection and tracking issues.
Installing the firmware update lets you use keys on the Apple Wireless Keyboard during the startup process. This is important if you need to start up the computer from a CD, in target disk mode, or reset parameter RAM (PRAM), for example.
It also lets you wake the computer from sleep by clicking the Apple Wireless Mouse or pressing a key on the Apple Wireless Keyboard.
The firmware updater is available on the Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mouse software CD. It is designed to update the built-in Bluetooth hardware of some Macintosh computers. To find out which computers have this hardware, see technical document 86207, "Bluetooth: Macintosh Computers With Built-In Bluetooth". You can also use it to update the D-Link DBT-120 USB Bluetooth adapter (rev B2 or later).
If you don't have an Apple Wireless Mouse or Apple Wireless Keyboard, you don't need to install this update.
Important: This updater does not add these features to other Bluetooth devices, including earlier revisions of the D-Link adapter and other USB Bluetooth adapters.
    Installing the Bluetooth Firmware Update
    1. Install the keyboard and mouse software, which includes Apple Bluetooth 1.3 software. It's available on the Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mouse software CD. Double-click the file named KeyboardAndMouse.pkg.
    2. If you have a D-Link DBT-120 USB Bluetooth adapter (rev B2 or later), make sure it is plugged into one of the computer's USB ports and not a port on a keyboard, display, or hub.
    3. Open the firmware updater from the install disc. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen.
Important: Information about products not manufactured by Apple is provided for information purposes only, and does not constitute Apple's recommendation or endorsement. Please contact the vendor for additional information.
Document 17159, "Locating Vendor Information" can help you search for a particular vendor's address and phone number.

  • IMac doesn't recognise any USB external hard drives

    2011 iMac running on OS X 10.7.5
    1. I have tried 3 different hard drives now and none of them work on iMac but all work on Macbook Pro
    2. Not appearing anywhere - evenin in Disc Utility
    3. Tried to remove all other USB's in use and still no joy
    4. Tried to turn computer off and remove power for 10 mins and still no joy.
    5. The one I want it to work for is Seagate Backup Plus but like the others just doesn't see it.
Can anyone give any further advice?

Thanks BDAqua I tried your solution as I mentioned in point 4 or my initial discussion but this did not work.
I only have a USB do you think I should buy a firewire cable and try that?
My USB works for everything I've tried apart from portable hard discs.
The firewire bug link you sent is obviously for firewire issues so I assume I don't need to read this until I have tried a firewire cable?
What do you mean by this statement "If so, I suspect the AC PSU if it has one."?
I'm not technical so couldn't understand the acronyms or how this statment tied in with the previous instructions.
Thanks again for taking the time to help me
