IMac doesn't wake up from screensaver/sleep...

For some reason, after a recent HDD replacement and reinstall, my iMac won't give me my password prompt when I try to wake it from sleep (after it shows the screensaver, and then powersaver turns the display off).
So the display is off, I hit the keyboard, and all I can see is my mouse cursor, and after about 5 seconds, a spinning beach ball....it NEVER brings me to my password dialogue box, and I have to turn it off and on again...
Any ideas? My screensaver is the word/dictionary one built into Leopard...

Maybe something in this article will help.

  • IPhone 4 doesn't wake up from the Sleep Mode

iPhone 4 32Gb doesn't wake up from the sleep mode. When the iPhone goes into the sleep mode, I can't wake it up with the 'Power' button, neither with the 'Home' button. The phone is working, I even can hear the sound of 'unblock' slider if u touch and slide the screen at the place where the 'unblock' slider suppose to be, but the screen remains black. I have to push the 'Home' or 'Power' buttons MAAAANY TIMES to make the screen appear finally. Sometimes I need to push it 30 or 40 times!!! Or I just have to reboot the phone to make it work. But right after it goes into the sleep mode, I can't wake it again But when the phone is connected to iTunes, the sleep mode is working good (one push on the button and the phone is awaken). I tried to upgrade to 5.01 but nothing have changed. Also I've tried to synchronize the phone as 'New', but no luck again, the problem is still on the case. What I have to do? Do someone have the same problem? In Russia we have no official Apple Stores and my iPhone 4 is from Malaysia. So I can't just go to the Apple office and replace the phone. What can I do?

No, I don't have a case only a protective membrane on the screen... and I've tried to reset the iPhone by holding the 'Power' and 'Home' buttons with no result. After this reset the phone is working normally sometimes for about ten minutes (wakes up after one push), but then it's all repeats. And I repeat, that if I connect the iPhone to the PC with the USB-cable, the sleep mode is working fine, just like it should (I can wake the phone with one button push).

  • IMac doesn't wake up from sleep

I have a new 24" iMac running 10.5.2. It goes to sleep at night and will not wake up in the morning. I can unplug and replug devices, tap all the keys, click the mouse... nothing. I have to hold the power key until it goes off and then restart it. Here's the crash log it comes back with:

Anyone have any clues? Is this a known problem with 10.5.2 or something? I'm worried that all this hard shutdown is going to jack my new machine up.

Hmmm... not a bad suggestion. So if, for example, I find that it only locks when my firewire audio interface is attached, does that mean I have unplug that device every day when I'm done with the machine, or is there a workaround? The machine tends to crash if I pull the firewire while it's running, so that would mean rebooting the computer twice a day. At least now I only have to reboot it once

  • My iMac will not wake up from sleep after upgrading to OS X Mavericks

After upgrading to OS X, my iMac will not wake up from sleep.  Each time I have to do a hard restart.  Is there a fix for this problem?

    Hi,
I have just had the same problem with my iMac and after upgrading to Mavericks my iMac would not wake without pressing the power off button and re-booting.
Anyway, I have since done a complete new install on my iMac and have gone 5 days without an issue with the iMac not waking.  It was a bit of a pain to do but my own view so far is that the problem is linked to the upgrading of the OS instead of a clean install.
My iMac now flies with a new OS installed instead of an upgrade.

  • My mac won't wake up from a sleep and I have to unplug it to reboot as the power button doesn't function as well.  Any suggestions?  Running Lion 10.7.4 and sending all reports in.

My mac won't wake up from a sleep and I have to unplug it to reboot as the power button doesn't function as well.  Any suggestions?  Running Lion 10.7.4 and sending all reports in to Apple.

    First things first:
Update your profile (equipent, OSX, etc)
In Lion MS office2004 is not compatible, are you stIll using it?
Do the SMC RESET and do the PRAM reset.

  • MacBook Pro doesn't wake up from sleep mode

My MacBook Pro (late 2011) with OS Mavericks doesn't wake up from sleep mode anymore. Battery is fully charged and the cable is plugged in. I can still hear the ventilator running, but that's all. I never had any problems, but since about 2 weeks this problem occurs. It usually then woke up after 10-15min, but now nothing happened since 4 hours.
Is there anyone who could possible help me? Unfortunately there is no Apple Store in my area where I could go to.

    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article. That's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. Please read the whole article carefully (some of it is hidden by disclosure triangles) and don't skip any of the steps, including the ones under the heading "Additional troubleshooting." If you don't understand any of the steps, ask for guidance.
    Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.5 or earlier, from the menu bar select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Accessibility
If the checkbox at the bottom marked
              Enable access for assistive devices
is checked, uncheck it and test.
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Security & Privacy ▹ Privacy ▹ Accessibility
If any applications are listed on the right and have a checked box next to them, uncheck all the boxes and test. You may first have to click the padlock icon in the lower left corner of the window and authenticate as an administrator to unlock the settings.
    Step 3
In the Energy Saver pane of System Preferences, uncheck the box marked
Put hard disks to sleep when possible
    Step 4
This and the next step must be taken as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that heading, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You may see one or more reports with a name that begins with "Sleep Wake Failure" followed by a date. Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
    Step 5
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ Diagnostic and Usage Messages
In the search box in the window's toolbar, enter "powerd" (without the quotes.)
You may see one or more lines like this:
    com.apple.message.signature: Platform Failure
If you do see that, and you did everything in the preceeding steps, then you're dealing with an internal hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

  • Doesn't wake up from sleep

Just bought a new iBook about 3 weeks ago with all the latest software. Often when the lid is closed and it's in a sleep mode, when the lid is opened it will not wake up from its sleep. We have to hold down the power button to shut it off and then turn it back on again.
    Any advice?

    Hi
Yes I HAD this problem to. After I saw this thread I tried to call apple support. Sadly my computer is about 6 month old so they wouldn't give me any advice unless I payed 450 Danish kr = about 80 $ - wich is rediculous for a 5 minut advice. But anyway I began to think about the single processor G5 (600 MHz FSB), which have some problem wich reminded me of this one: They simply randomly crash. Apple has resently given some advice (after more than 1 year of random crashing - simply anacceptable for those people). The advice was very simply to go into Power settings and put everything on Automatic.
So I'd gave it a try on my iBook which almost allways crashes when it wakes up and the result is that it is cured. It never crashes again. So just try to put everything on automatic in the battery settings for your iBook. Especially remember to put the processor usage option (I don't know what it is called in english, mine is on danish, but it is the option which tells the computer to run on a low CPU usage or a high CPU usage) on AUTOMATIC.
I hope that this advice will help, cause this problem basicly makes you iBook unusable.

  • After Thunderbolt Firmware upgrade display in target mode does not wake up from screensaver

    Hi!
I have a MacBook Pro 2011 (Snow Leopard) connected to an iMac 2011 (Lion) via Thunderbolt. The iMac runs in display target mode.
Last night I update the Thunderbolt firmware on both systems via SW update. Now I have the problem, that the iMac display does not wake up from screensaver mode when I enter the password to unlock the MBP blind (the iMac screen is the main display).
I have to do cmd-F2 twice (do disable and enable) target display mode to get it back to life.
This worked fine before the Thunderbolt updates.
Does anybody else have that problem?
    Thanks!
    Hank

I have a 2.2Ghz Macbook Core 2 Duo system purchased in December 2007. I have 2GB RAM installed.
My system has developed a weird problem where it won't come out of sleep ... 100% of the time now.
I've tried resetting PRAM/NVRAM, resetting the power module and even reinstalled Leopard. Nothing has helped. I'm at my wit's end.
When I put my system into sleep mode, it goes into sleep mode as you would expect. However, when I wake the system (by opening the lid or pressing any key), the system looks as though it's come out of sleep (ie. there's a picture of desktop) and I can move my mouse but I can't click anything. I can't Cmd-Opt-Esc either. I have to perform a hard-reset at that point.
I have quit all other applications to try to isolate the problem and I'm beginning to think it's either Leopard or my MacBook. Either way, it's annoying as **.
Has anyone come up with a way to fix this? Doesn't seem like I'm the only one.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • My iMac doesn't wake up when I hit the wireless keyboard

I leave my imac on all the time, I have a wireless bluetooth keyboard and sometimes when I hit the keyboard my imac doesn't wake up. Is this an issue that anyone else has delt with? Is it a keyboard issue or a computer issue?

    Weak battery?
Apple keyboard or third party? All firmware up to date?

  • A brand new Mac Pro doesn't wake up from sleep

I got a new Mac Pro.
It has an external SATA controller and a video card with NVIDIA Quadro 4000 chipset on it.
It has a Snow Leopard installed.
The problem it has is that it doesn't wake up once it goes to sleep, either by choosing "Sleep" menu item or by using "Energy Saving" setting.
I notice some people mention a keyboard doesn't respond while his trackpad does. In my case, nothing works.
I don't know if it is due to keyboard or a magic mouse. I tried to connect another wired mouse to the enclosure of the Mac Pro directly, but it did't cause Mac Pro wake up.
By searching on Google, many people seem to have this problem, whether they have Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, and so on.
Personally, I have a 17" PPC iMac, 13" MacBook with Core Duo 2, and have used MacBook Pro 17", but they didn't have this problem.
I tried to reset the SMC, but it didn't help.
Do anyone know what cause this problem and how to solve it?
Is there any patch for this?
    Thank you.

Does it sound like it's waking up but the monitor just doesn't display anything?
I ask because if so, I'm experiencing the same problem.  I have a Quad-Core Mac Pro (no external devices) and if it goes to sleep I have difficulty getting it to display anything on the monitor after waking it up.  Now, I just recently hooked up an additional monitor (VGA) for dual display, and the funny thing is, that monitor will wake, but my main monitor won't.
Sometimes I get this error after boot-up too, where the computer will get to the login screen, but my main monitor is receiving no signal ("at least according to my monitor").
If that's the same issue, then I'll post any success I find for you!
    Best,
    J

  • After 10.9.3 update monitor doesn't wake up from sleep

I have an LCD connected to the Mac Mini via a mini-DP to DVI adapter and a video projector is connected directly at the HDMI.
The LCD is the "main" screen while the projector is only switched on for watching TV or movies.
My "Computer sleep" is set to "never" and "display sleep" to 15min.
All was working well until I updated to 10.9.3 ...
Now, when the LCD goes to sleep (projector is powered off) it doesn't wake up any more.
The computer is running and it is responding to my key-presses etc. but the monitor remains in a coma.
Powering the monitor off and on again resolves the issue, e.g. the display shows correctly.
This is however only a temporary fix as it refuses to wake up  upon the next sleep...
The monitor itself is fine, it works on other systems flawlessly, e.g. on an older Mini.
    Any ideas?
I have already force-fed it with the combo-udate but that didn't help.

My iphone 3GS does the same thing, not only does it suddenly fail to wake up from sleep. It just crashes and I have to do a hard reset. Today it just turned off when the ipod was playing I was a mile away from it and it was in airplane mode as well. I have restored from backup once and would dearly love to have it downgraded but that doesn't seem to be much of an option. My phone ran like a dream before the upgrade....now I hate to say it but its completely unreliable.
With so many people experiencing the same problem it makes me wonder why there isn't a fix.

  • Pavillion 15 n000sp doesn't wake up from sleep in Windows 10

Since updating from Windows 8.1 to 10, my notebook has lost the ability to wake up from sleep mode.
When I leave it idle but open, the scren goes off but any touch on the keyboard or mouse wakes it up.
If I close the notebook, it goes into a deep sleep mode and unable to wake up. The usb powers off (optical mouse stops working) and pressing the keyboard, touchpad or power button does nothing. If I disconnect and reconnect the usb cable, I regain power to the mouse, but don't gain any functionality. Only way to recover from this is a hard reset by long power button press. I have already followed the instructions at http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03383935#AbT0 (basically assuring that peripherals have the ability to wake up the device - not only the keyboard, as stated in the article, but also mouse and touchpad -  and checking for updates both through the windows update as the HP support Assistant and going through all devices in the device manager). I have updated both graphical card drivers (Intel HD and NVidia Gforce) and the update assistant doesn't detect any more updates. Still, the issue persists. Any help?

  • T440s doesn't wake up from sleep

I got a new T440s about 2 weeks ago and sometimes it doesn't wake up after it goes into sleep mode. It gets stuck on a black screen and the mouse cursor is visible, but moving the mouse or pressing keys on the keyboard fails to wake it up. When this happens, I have to restart the computer by holding down the power button for 10 seconds. I am running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit and hybrid sleep is off. I'm just really confused because sometimes it wakes up perfectly and sometimes it doesn't. Thanks!
    Solved!

Hi someotherguy, firstly thanks for your replies!
I'll try to document my issue a bit better.
    My setup:
    Thinkpad T440p
    CPU: i7-4700MQ
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64 (Upgraded via STORE from Windows 8)
    Display: FHD WWAN
    Graphics: Intel HD4600 / GeForce GT 730M
    Memory: 16 GB GSkill 1.35v
HDD: Samsung 840 Evo SSD (250 GB)
    Power: 135W AC Adapter
    Wireless: 7260AC w/ Bluetooth 4.0
External display: LG 23EA63V-P (LG 23 Inch IPS Panel @ 1920x1080)
Connection: MiniDisplay Port to DVI Adapter with Dual link DVI-D Cable
Power settings: Max Performance / Always On
    Sleep: Never
Turn off Displays: YES (this is the issue!)
    I have disabled hibernate
    I have disabled fast boot
I have installed all latest Windows updates and Lenovo drivers.
Nothing to call out in device manager
    The issue:
Since adding the external display, both displays intermittently (90%) fail to wake from DISPLAY ONLY sleep. The system does (*knock on wood*) wake from manual setting of Sleep. However, when the displays turn off after the allocated time, it seems like my system is in tandem assuming some sort of sleep state. It does not look like only the displays are sleeping.
Once the monitors turn off, moving the mouse or hitting the keyboard will initiate some system feedback (backlight only on laptop lights up with blank screen, fans spin up) but the external monitor does not power back on, and the keyboard lock keys do not respond. The only way to get my system back is to hard reset.
Now I have read several users having similar issues. Many users have solved this in different ways (from display to usb to power to memory), and it's very hard to identify the culprit in my situation.
    Other issues (possibly related)
-Sometimes system turns off by itself (rarely occurs)
-Sometimes after desktop is idle for 1 minute, system Logs Off (and in turn displays turn off)
What I've tried that has NOT worked (aside from latest drivers)
    -Disabling Hibernate
    -Removing all USB devices
    -Disabling Wireless adapters
    -Disabling Bluetooth
-Uninstalling Bluetooth (yes I've updated to latest drivers)
-Disabling Fingerprint Reader (yes I've tried the latest drivers)
-Updating to latest BIOS (although I updated last night and I think it was to 2.18 that was just released?)
-Installing Intel HD Drivers versions: 3345/3355/3379
    -Installing latest Nvidia Optimus drivers
What I've tried that SEEMS TO SOLVE IT (at least temporarily)
-Switching Single Link DVI Cable -> Dual Link solved it temporarily, but the issue came back.
-Uninstalling Intel HD4600 Drivers (using an old 3316; but this causes high CPU usage and System interrupts)
-Disabling CPU management in Power settings in the BIOS (this to me is not a solution)
-Switching to MiniDisplay Port to HDMI adapter & HDMI Cable; this was my biggest victory last night - I was able to get the displays back 100% of the time (3 tests)
-Switching BACK to my DVI adapter and cable - this has me puzzled. I would rather use DVI, so ruled out using HDMI as a solution. Once I changed the cables, I was able to resume the system again (in my few tries). We'll see how long this lasts..
So I'm still not sure what the issue is. Things I would try, but only if necessary..
    -Shorter Dual Link DVI Cable
    -Different MiniDisplay to DVI adapter
-Reset PC and OS (factory settings AND fresh install)
-Windows 8 Pro (do not upgrade to 8.1)
    -Different Memory
After checking the Event Log, I've had Critical Events (system powered down unexpectly) each time I've had to hard reset. I try to see if any Event occured just prior. I've noticed several Warnings for the following, but have found no pattern tied to the crash
-igfx.dll has stop responding / has recovered
-issue with Finger print reader (I need to reference Event Log for details)
-issue with Bluetooth (I need to reference Event Log for details, but I believe this was when I had it disabled in the Device Manager and it was looking for the driver)
Sometimes there is no event just prior to the crash at all, which leads me to believe these are just OTHER issues I need to deal with.
Any other experiences/thoughts/advice would be most appreciated! I have been so incredibly frustrated recently, coming back from another room finding my displays off and having to hard reset. Sure there are workarounds, but I am in seach of a solution.
And this is only ONE of the issues I've had with this device.

  • My MacBook Pro sometimes doesn't wake up from sleep mode

Dear users, my MacBook Pro (model 5,1 - 15" Late 2008) is behaving oddly since I upgraded to OSX Lion. Sometimes, after going into sleep mode, it doesn't wake up. When I hit a key (space or enter), I see the login screen, but it's not possible to type my keyword. The only thing active is "the spinning beach ball of death", so I have to manually shut down my Mac and start over. This problem (and also other problems) did not happen in Snow Leopard. The only thing that changed in my Mac is the OS; other programs remain the same. I already tried reseting PRAM and SMC, and fixing disk errors. Thanks for your attention.

try running a hardware test and see if you get an error code: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mh35727.html
