IMac Dual Monitor, Mini-DP to DVI, Screen Blinking

2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4 GB Ram. ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro graphics.
Been using Snow Leopard here at work, running dual monitors via Mini-DP to DVI cable. Never a problem previously.
Upgraded to Mavericks. Enjoying it. Until the 2nd monitor (Acer v223w) started intermittently blinking. Discovered I can trigger the blinking via the mail program on the second window - hiding and/or showing the info/mail activity left-side panel will cause the screen to blink.
Kinda befuddled. Any help?

I am having the excact same problem. With nearly if not an identicle system.
24" Mid 2007 iMac
Processor  2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory  4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB
Software  OS X 10.9.2 (13C64)
Serial Number  W87***B2ZCT
Display 1: Built-in iMac Display (1920 x 1200)
Display 2: ACER 23" Wide Screen AL2223W Display (1680 x 1050)
Since I updated to the latest version of mavericks the other night I have had frequent flickering and blacking out of my screen. It happens mostly when I mouse on or mouse off my dock menu, and open programs on the second monitor. There is also little yellow and organge flickers throughout the screen from time to time almost like an interference patter, generally 1px high and 20px wide with varying degress of static.
I have tried the following with no success:
- Reset my PRAM / NVRAM
- Reset my SMC
- Deleted com.apple display related files
- Used screenResX to try and find a different Display 2 options
- Lowered resolution of Display 2
This is extremely frustrating because I am a web designer and programmer, and having my 2nd monitor not functioning basically renders my work station useless for me.

  • My Viewsonic monitor won't work with the Imac using the Mini Port to DVI adapter.

My Viewsonic monitor won't work with the Imac using the Mini Port to DVI adapter. I also tried the HDMI to DVI adapter ane the Mac-Mini with same result. The monitor does work on my older Macbook Pro that has the DVI connector. Is it a Software/Driver issue ?

Should be extremely simple, please carefully read Connect multiple displays to your Mac. If you still have problems then it's probably a cable issue that would be resolved by replacing the adapter cable. You should be using this adapter. If you are using a third party adapter that might be your problem!

  • Imac dual monitor primary monitor issue

This is driving me nuts and I must be missing something...
I have a 27" Imac (all-in-one) fully loaded with all the software I need (which I will call my old machine). I then bought another iMac but a newer one (I will call my new machine) again loaded with the software I need. I linked them together with the correct cable and the dual monitors worked great - my old machine being the primary display my new machine being the external display. It worked great for about 2 years but yesterday I thought I would like to switch the machines around so my new machine is the primary machine I work on (because it has a faster processor and some newer software) and my old machine will be the external display.
I just cannot do it!!! The arrangement tab in the display only shows on my old machine and no matter what I do with the screen and menu bars it is always the old machine which is primary with the older software.
I have tried unplugging each machine in different sequences, rebooting several times with always the same result - my old machine is the one with the Arrangement tab and therefore this is the primary display (with the older software).
Can anyone offer any advice on how to resolve this please.
    Thank you in advance.
    Tony

  • Imac dual monitor

can i use my second imac as a dual monitor
"I have a 27" imac as my main computer. I also have an older 24" imac. Is there a way to use my older imac as a dual monitor, bypassing the computer"

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Only the 27-inch iMac and iMacs with Thunderbolt can be used as external screens > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302
To use the 24-inch iMac as an external display, you can use an app like ScreenRecycler. That application uses the network to make the 24-inch iMac as an external screen

  • MacBook Pro and iMac dual monitor

Can I use my 24" 2008 iMac as a dual monitor to use with my 15" 2011 MacBook Pro? I have a friend who can hook his Acer laptop up to his Acer monitor and can drag windows between the two screens. I was just wondering if there was a way to do something similar with my current models of Macs. Any help would be great!

  • 24" iMac - Dual monitor calibration

    Just curious...
I have a 24" iMac Core 2 Duo 2.16Ghz, I am thinking of attaching an extrenal monitor to the system (non-Apple) and also borrowing a friends monitor calibration unit.
I've never had an external hooked up before and before I go buying one... my question is...
If I have a dual monitor setup (non-mirrored) can I assign each monitor its own monitor colour profile? or would I only be able to pick one and it applied it to both?
    Thanks

    Hi 75
Yes! Open the Display Preference and go to the NTSC/PAL panel for the attached display, then calibrate it just like you did the Internal.

  • Dual monitors... DVi covered by plastic.. what?

I just bought an HP envy 700-019. Both DVI connections are covered with plastic that cannot be removed. **bleep**? How am I supposed to attach monitors?
I'm so frustrated I'm about to return this machine to the place where I bought it, since I can't actually bloody well use it.

    Hi:
According to the product specs at the link below, your PC came equipped with a discrete video card (Radeon HD 8570).
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03795764&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...
You would connect your monitor into either the DVI port (#2) or HDMI port (#1).
While I do not know about your specific model, many times when a discrete video adapter is installed, the onboard graphics is automatically disabled, which is why the ports are covered.
That is how my HP 8200 Elite came delivered to me.  It has a discrete video card and the blue onboard VGA port has a plastic cover over it.

  • In dual monitor setup firefox 9.01 menus blink in and out

Every version of firefox AFTER the 3.6 series has problems in dual monitor setups and I want to be able to keep all tabs I had open when I close firefox so when I open again they are there. In dual monitor if I use monitor 2 for firefox (which is the way I use it) the menu blink rapidly when I click on them and make very hard to navigate. What is it with the video setup in win7 I have to use an older version of winamp due to tearing in the second monitor? Have all you companies not fully learned who to implement dual monitor setups properly or is that not really a concern?

Firefox doesn't always play well with a multiple monitor setup and hardware acceleration.
    Try to disable hardware acceleration.

  • Using iMac and Mac Mini together to share screen and data

I may buy a Mac Mini in addition to my iMac 27" (Mid 2011), mostly so that I can use it for slide show presentations via a digital projector. But I don't have a separate monitor (or suitable TV), so I wouldn't be able to use the Mac Mini other than with a projector. Not a good idea. So I backed away a bit.
    TDM Mode
Then I found that I could use an iMac screen as a monitor if I connect the two via a Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable in Target Display Mode, TDM (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3924). A short cable costs $35.
Then I thought about those times when Photoshop is tying up my computer for hours while I batch process heaps of images (you can't use Photoshop while it is batch processing), and I wondered: why not jump across to the Mac Mini during those times?
I store all my data on external firewire drives. Nothing on the OSX drives. This leads me to a few questions. Assume I have the Mac Mini connected to my iMac in TDM via a Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable.
    Ques 1
What is the best way of being able to access my data files (on external firewire drives connected to the iMac) via the Mac Mini? A scenario might be:
    I've started a batch process on the iMac which ties up Photoshop and much ties up;
    I switch the screen to display the Mac Mini;
I want to access my data on the firewire drives, drives that the iMac is already accessing.
    Ques 2
Can I use the thunderbolt connection to not only transfer screen data, but ordinary data?
    Ques 3
Or should I run an ethernet cable between the two and set up a network?

One question, how does this affect syncing to iTunes?  Will it recognise the iPhoto drive on both computers (depending which one has the drive at that time) if I sync photo albums to my iPhone and iPad?
iTunes will always sync with the last iPhoto library that has been used on the computer. If you make sure, that the drive has been connected, before you launch iTunes, it will work, like Old Toad said.
Also, if I do it this way doesn't it become vulnerable due to not being connected at all times to time machine?
if you use the drive with the library the mainly on your iMac, you could exclude it from the TimeMachine backup of your Laptop. Keep it connected to the iMac, when you are not using it on the LapTop.
What would be the process if I only wanted to do this periodically and wanted to keep the main library on the iMac.  Could I work on the drive on the macair and then save it back to the iMac?  How do I do that without duplicating the files?  If I just select copy and paste, will it only overwrite the changed files?
You would have to copy the entire library back and forth again and again, or use iPhoto Library Manager, to merge the changes into the library on the iMac. It would not be an easy workflow.

  • T420 Intel HD 3000 Dual Monitor Mini Dock Issue

I have a T420 with Intel HD 3000 using a Mini Dock, attached to Two external Monitor one VGA and the other one DVI, the problem is that the DVI won't work simultaneously with the VGA, after update the Intel HD driver to the last version available 9.17.10.2843, both monitors works simultaneously, but If I Reboot, Hibernate, Standby or Undock, only the primary monitor (VGA) works and the Extended (DVI) stop working.
I tried using another video driver version and updating the BIOS but not luck, Does any one know if there is a solution for this issue???

Are you trying to keep the internal display on when you connect to the external monitors?

  • Question about dual monitors - view stretching across both screens

I recently switched from my desktop to a ProBook 4710s.  The laptop is plugged into dual LG monitors.  On my old desktop, I could keep the Photoshop program in one window (I could maximize it in one window) and drag the toolbar to the second window.  Now, when I maximize, it stretches across both screens.  This is pretty inconvenient, in that the image is cut by the borders of the screens (unless I unpin it).  I would really appreciate any help.
    Thanks in advance.

The HP website says the laptop only supports 1 VGA external monitor. What adapter are you using to split the VGA port and have you contacted the company to see how to make it show how you want? I found nothing on the HP site on running 2 monitors and a adapter to do it.

  • Dual monitor (in addition to native screen) on MacBook Pro 2010

I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro (13 in) (2.4 GHz intel core 2 duo), and am hoping to extend the desktop with two external monitors. I have used one external monitor with great success, but I want to use another. Both are VGA and one also has HDMI. The spec sheet for this MacBook Pro (http://support.apple.com/kb/SP583) says it supports one external monitor, but I'm wondering if I can push it to two. If yes, what cables/dongles would work best? Thanks.

    libsterloo,
I have the same model MacBook Pro as you. You’ll need a device such as the Matrox DualHead2Go Digital Mac Edition adapter to support two external monitors.

  • Dual monitor setup without using the ADC?

Would it be possible to run a dual monitor setup using a DVI splitter cable from my (2009)Mac Pro?
I've seen some old forums referring to the 2006 models saying that this wouldn't work and instead you'd get the same image on both screens but the newer Mac Pros state they have "Dual-Link DVI ports".
Just wondering whether this means what I think it means and you can connect two monitors via a dual link cable and get essentially, two monitors running independently as opposed to the same thing on both??
Hope it's staightforward and me just being slow.

The GT120 features one Dual Link DVI-I port and one Mini DisplayPort .
The DVI-I is Dual Link capable, and also can be directly adapted to VGA.
Single-Link DVI is a serial interface that carries three data bits in each signaling interval, as well as control signals. In general, Single-Link supports displays up to 1920 wide. Dual Link DVI is the same except that it carries six data bits in each signaling interval, supporting displays over 1920 wide.
DVI screen drawing is very similar to VGA screen drawing, and the data sent are digital "scan lines" left-to-right row data, top-to-bottom with entire screen data sent about every 60 Hertz. Analog VGA signals are sent at the same time on a separate set of pins.
DisplayPort and its Mini variant are inherently a packet interface, but can be coerced to produce a "Dual Mode" signal that approximates Single-Link DVI. Getting Dual-Link DVI or VGA from DisplayPort interface requires a non-trivial converter than contains chips and requires power.
    Executive Summary:
If you have one display that is wider than 1920 or VGA, attach to the DVI-I connector with an appropriate cable.
Running a Mini DisplayPort display from the Mini DisplayPort requires only a cable.
Single-Link DVI can be had from the Mini DisplayPort with a cheap adapter.
Dual-Link DVI or VGA requires an expensive Active Powered converter which can cost US$100.

  • Work space on dual monitors

I have arranged my tool panels (swatches/paragraph styles etc.) onto the second monitor. However, every time I restart InDesign, all my tool panels go back to one monitor and I have to drag all the tool panels back to the second monitor. Is there some way that the program remembers the workspace on a dual monitor setup?
Also, The screen of my InDesign is often truncated into the top left hand corner. See screen capture attached.

I see from your screenshot that you have probably set Multiple displays to Duplicate these displays in Windows.
Right click on the desktop and choose Screen resolution. Set Multiple displays to Extend these displays.
That's how I've got my two monitors set up in Windows 7, and I have no problem with the panels on the second monitor.
