  • HP Pavilion DV7 2206TX - DVD drive reads DVDs but not CD's

My HP Pavilion DV7 2206TX - DVD drive reads DVDs but not CD's.
When I insert a CD, the drive tries very hard to read the CD but gives up after about a minute.
I get no error message.  I do not see the Auto play message.
Windows Explorer does not recognize the DVD drive.
When I insert a DVD, I get the Autoplay menu, Windows Explorer recognize the drive and the DVD. I can play the DVD using any number of Video players.
I would welcome advice relating this problem.

your HP Pavilion needs a new DVD driver. I ran into many problems such as this when troubleshooting computers in school.
A DVD drive should play CD at any time:  While a CD driver will not play a DVD disc. Do not think there is a problem with sofware because it will only throw your troubleshooting skills  out the window and it will confuse you.

  • Compatable DVD Drive w/DVD Studio Pro 4

Does anyone have a list of compatable dual layer dvd drives that DVD Studio Pro 4 supports. I have a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-111D. And my DVD SP 4 doesn't recognize it when I try to format/build/burn a dvd. Anyone got any info on this problem.
(I am able to burn dvds with Toast, so my Mac recognizes it, but just not Studio Pro 4.)

Update to Tiger, and it shouldn't be a problem.
10.2 is nearly three OS version old.
    Otherwise try patchburn.de

  • Trying to see DVD drive through DVD sharing. iMac does not see MacBook. DVD sharing is ON.

I have an iMac with a non-working DVD drive and I'm trying to install Snow Leopard from my MacBook's DVD drive. I have turned DVD Sharing ON but the iMac does not see the DVD drive in Finder's Shared Devices. I have tried FireWire, LAN through TimeCapsule and WiFi. Am I missing a step?
The iMac and MacBook are both late 2007 purchases and have 10.5.8.
    Thanks for any help.

Two commands you need to type in terminal on the computer that has the dead drive.
Disk sharing like the macbook air does is one of those things that's included in all OS X's on all computers, but that is not enabled.  (I think it's cause apple doesn't want to have to support it on more devices that they absolutely have to)
So here's how you enable it.
In your Utilities Folder, open Terminal
    copy and paste each line:
    sudo -s
    *type your password*
defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser EnableODiskBrowsing -bool true defaults write
    com.apple.NetworkBrowser ODSSupported -bool true
    shutdown -r now
Okee dokee... That last command will restart your computer, then you're off to the races!

  • DVD drive with DVD stuck inside.

I dropped my MacBook with a DVD inside. Now the DVD won't play or eject. How do I eject the DVD from the drive?

It's likely you'll have to get physical. This works but requires a few tries.
Take two playing cards. You'll use these as tweezers essentially. Use fairly stiff high quality ones.
Fish around gently and put one on top of the disk and one on the bottom of the disk.
Once in place keep sweeping in and pulling out as you hit the eject button trying to grab (with friction and sweeping motion) and pull it out. Don't fully remove the cards but keep sweeping in and out. It works on MacBooks and slot loading iMacs.
This is assuming your macbook still makes the eject sound like it's trying to push something out. I've gotten disks out that have had 2 disks stuck in as well as stuck disks from faulty drives.
IVe also also used business cards but playing cards work best.

  • How find software to run/instal DVD from DVD  drive? DVD drive?

How to find/instal software that will install/run application program after loading DVD into drive?

What specific "application program" are you referring to? We'll need to know what it is you wish to install and run before anyone can offer suggestions.
If the DVD on which this "program" exists is not mounting in your Mac at all, that will be a different issue, and again we'll need more details, such as whether only this DVD is having problems mounting or whether no DVD will mount.
    Regards.

  • PLEASE HELP! CD/DVD drive not reading anything.. Then it wont eject out!

Ok well i use to burn cds and dvds with no problem and then i noticed when i went to iDVD it said that i wouldnt be able to burn dvds becuase my mac didnt have a supported superdrive? all of a sudden?
So I tried to put a dvd in to watch and it seemed like it was trying to read it and then it stops? It dosent show on the desktop and it dosent load up.
so then i tried to eject it and it wont even let me do that!
    someone please have a answer!

i have a similar problem except the part where it dosnt eject. i am trying to burn a cd for my friend on itunes and no matter wat kind of cd i put in (DVD, blank cd, written cd) it will just spit it out in a few seconds. the thing is tat every once in a while (literally every once in a while) the cd will stay in the imac and would appear on the desktop. so then i go to itunes and press "burn cd", but it dosnt burn. it says "cd burn failed" in like 3 seconds after i press the button. so im saying tat the mac keeps spitting out any cd and it looks like it dosnt really recognize it. appreciate your help. ty

  • DVD drive rejecting dvds

    Hi
I have a MacBook pro 13" and when I insert a DVD it spins it around a bit then kicks it out. If I reinsert it then it will sometimes work, sometimes not, sometimes it takes up to three times inserting it before it will play it!
This happens with brand new DVDs that I brought yesterday and with older ones I have used in the past... Any ideas? It's a hard sort of thing I imagine to convince AppleCare of?

    HL-DT-ST DVDRW GSA-S10N:
Posted at several other threads on the same topic:
Last night I grabbed a can of compressed air - the type sold at office supply stores with the long plastic nozzle.
Blasted into the slot - AFTER shaking the can and test blasting to make sure no propellant was spraying from the can - and first DVD-R afterwards was recognized and I was able to complete a burn.
Second test DVD-R was mounted on the desktop as a blank and ready to roll, as it should.
Worth a try, but make sure the can is held upright and use it only after clearing the spray lines of any propellant.
Bring the CD slot to the edge of the table so the nozzle can be inserted level with the cd mechanism.
Quick bursts of blasts at different spots without bumping into anything.
Probably better not to hold down on the trigger - repeated short blasts, at least initially, might be more effective.
    Hope this helps.

  • I have a 27 in. iMac with the latest version of Snow Leopard. When Lion comes out, will it be software I purchase and download online? I am trying to prepare for cost and don't have a point of reference, having been a Windows guy until last summer.

I want to know what to expect in terms of moving from one OS to another. Having been a Windows guy until last summer, my only experience is going from one version of Windows to another, which is usually a fairly costly purchase. I will want to go to Lion, but as a retired teacher, my income is fixed. I am not looking for a specific price, I am sure that is unknown, but I would just like to know help Apple does these things so I won't be sadly surprised.

Historically Apple has sold OS X upgrades via DVD media however with the advent of the Mac Apple Store that throws another possibility into the mix. That's about as much as I can say as these forums don't allow us to speculate about future products. As for the cost historically Apple has priced OS X upgrades between $29-$129, the last upgrade (Snow Leopard) was only $29 but that was an exception. Again we cannot speculate on these forums about that. The good news is that Apple is unlike Microsoft which makes OS upgrades expensive and complicated. The choice with OS X is do you want a server version (most users don't need one) or a single computer license. The users that buy server versions tend to have a number of Macs they manage from a server, most consumers don't have this issue.
Keep reading the news, as you know Apple has announced a Summer release for Lion.
Upgrades on OS X are usually very simple. I've upgraded from Tiger to Leopard to Snow Leopard and each transition has been very easy. With any major OS upgrade there are some basic rules to follow, for example always, always, always backup prior to any update. When Lion is released to the general public post again for what to do to prepare or even do a Google search on "How to prepare for OS X upgrade" and you will find a number of articles that will provide some suggestions and valuable insight. You can also re-post here and users will be happy to assist.
