  • How to connect my iphone to imac on wifi

    Hi
I want to connect my iphone to imac on wifi. Actually i want to use internet on my iphone. So how can i do this ?

If you have a wifi router you can set up/turn on the wifi... set the user name and password wifi in your router... open wifi in general settings on the iPhone... log into your router, user name and password. (If your don't know how to turn on the router wifi. Google the router make and model and you will find instructions on how to do this.)
If you don't have a wifi router and your Mac has wifi capabilities you can hookup to the internet over wifi from your Mac to your iPhone.
System Preferences on the Mac... Network... Wifi... Advanced tab... Hit the '+' to add a user name and password...
Make sure you use WPA2 Personal for Security... Hit ok... Turn on the wifi... Same as above with the iPhone, log into your wifi settings on the iPhone.
*Important point... Use WPA2 for the encryption/Security setting. If you use anything else for this setting, your wifi can be hacked.

i have one imac. my wife and i each have our own user accounts and itunes library.  How do we share selected music between user accounts?

To give other users read-only access to your library, use the Sharing features of iTunes. Sharing works over the local network as well as on the same computer. See the built-in help for details.
If you want to give full read/write access to more than one user, see the support article linked below.

  • How to add my Epson 322 to iMac with WiFi

I am not able to connect a new Epson E322 printer to my iMac uing WiFi.
The printer shows my router, recognises it, asks for and gets the password, then requests I set up the iMac but there is no link I can find on it to link a printer.
    Anybody have any help, please?

    Hi Graham,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Take a look at the article linked below, it provides a lot of great information which can help you setup your wireless printer so that it can be used with your iMac.

  • Connect MacBook Air with my iMac via Wifi

How can I link my Mac Book air to my iMac, via WiFi, to transfer respectively synchronize data between both of them.
    Thx

There are a few different ways of getting this accomplished.
Method 1: Airdrop. If both computers are Airdrop capable, simply enter Airdrop on each computer, wait until they see each other and then connect and share.
Method 2: WiFi Router. If both computers are on the same WiFi router network and file sharing is enabled on the computers, you can browse the contents of the source computer and copy/move to the target.
Method 3: Ad Hoc. If no WiFi router is available, you can simply create a wireless ad hoc network on one of the computers and complete the transfers in that manner.
There are probably a couple other methods out there, but those are the main 3 that come to mind.
    Cheers!

  • Making iMac a wifi hotspot and firewall

So I successfully turned my imac into a wifi hotspot for use with my ipad and iphone. However, it only seems to work if you completely disable the firewall on the imac. Surely that is not an optimal solution. Looking around on the web I found dozens of explanations how to make a wifi hotspot but nobody mentions the firewall aspect. So my question is simple: can you or can you not make a wifi hotspot on a mac desktop (imac) while preserving firewall protection on you mac.
    Cheers, Bob

Your iMac must be connect to a internet router by Ethernet. The Router give you all the protection you need. No need for the Mac firewall. It is only for Incoming connections anyway. Which the Router already filters.
Not sure why you are using your iMac for Wifi. Just buy a WiFi router. Internet connection sharing is so 1990s.

  • My imac loses wifi connection when it goes to sleep, how to correct?

My iMac loses wif connection when it goes to sleep.  How do I correct?

Are you running OS X Lion? If so there are unfortunately numerous threads on here discussing exactly the same problem. So far there doesn't seem to be a definitive solution, with everyone hoping that Apple will come up with a permanent fix.
Here's a quick search of these forums alone - depressing reading:

This 'fix' has worked for a few people but, unfortunately, not everyone:

  • Cannot Import Images from 2008 iMac to 2011 iMac over WiFi

I have 2 iMacs (i.e., 2008 and 2011). I use my 2008 iMac to store my RAW files for backup, and then I import them into Aperture 3 on my 2011 iMac over WiFi. I can see my 2008 iMac folders with Finder (Shared) on my 2011 iMac with no problems; however, I can't see my 2008 iMac when I am trying to import into Aperture 3 on my 2011 iMac. This used to work in the past. I am stumpted at the moment and I need an idea to try.

First on the iMac hold down the 'option' key while clicking on the Apple symbol in the right hand of the menu bar. There launch "System Profiler". In that program look and thr wireless section and see if it still sees the wireless card. If it does then lets move on to more steps to reset the OS X drivers for it.
To reset the OS X drivers for the Airport card follow these steps:
    1. Shut off the Airport card fully by going to System Preferences->Network pane and turn off Airport.
    2. With an Admin account go to the folder /YourHardDrive/Library/Preferences/ and find the folder "SystemConfiguration" and delete the files:
    a) com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    b) com.apple.nat.plist
    c) com.apple.network.identification.plist
    3. Restart immediately to rebuild these files.
    4. Upon the restart rejoin the wireless network.

  • Access Canon MX860 from multiple accounts on iMac over WiFi

I bought a Canon PIXMA MX860 yesterday and set it up using my account on our iMac running 10.5.6. The printer is connected over WiFi. I can print and scan from my account.
When I try to print from another account on the iMac (my wife as an account and we have a guest account) the printer queue says "Printer is currently off-line". I sent a message to Canon, they told me to set permissions for "Everyone" to Read & Write on the Library folder. I tried this for:
    /Macintosh HD/Library/Printers/Canon
and all enclosed items. Still doesn't work.
Has anyone else set up the MX860 to print from multiple accounts on a computer? Did you have to do anything beyond the procedure specified by Canon?
    Thanks!
    Matt

    Hello Matt,
I don't understand why Canon support would have got you to change permissions on the Canon folder. This is not normally required.
I have the MP980 connected via wireless, and I can print to it from my Admin account and a standard account I made up just to check. What account type do you have set for the missus?
I also would have thought that the printer off-line message would have had more to do with her account not being able to access the network connection, rather than not being able to access the core Printers folder.
If using her account, you open the Print Queue and select the Utility icon, and then set the Canon IJ Printer Utility to network, does the MX860 display? And if you select it, can you peform any of the Maintenance functions?
Also, if you connect the MX860 directly to the Mac via USB, are you able to print to it using her account?

This subject has been talked/written about a lot, after Lion was introduced. A solution from Apple has not yet been published, everybody is waiting.
Try for instance https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3734081?start=15&tstart=0, but there are more discussion groups with the same subject: frequently lost WiFi-connections in newer Macs running Lion or up.

  • Dvd from iMac to wifi tv

Can I play a dvd on my iMac to watch on my wifi tv? Can built in Airport send dvd to tv? I actually have an external router connected now, and can stream Netflix on my tv, but not everything is offered streaming. Also, we own some dvds that we'd like to watch. My dvd player is broken and I don't want to buy a new one if I don't have to. I also have an old (1st gen) mac mini that's just sitting in a closet- could that be used as a dvd player?

Mine is separate as well, but I have used my Macbook hooked up to the TV. It works. Since he said he has a Mini, that may work as well; if it's older, it won't have HDMI, so he'd need two cables, one for video and one for audio (same with my older Macbook) - that might be the most reasonable solution especially since he could put the Mini near the TV. Of course it'll only work if the Mini has Airport; otherwise, there'll be cables snaking through the house (just as they would with the iMac without the Apple TV). Using the iMac without the Apple TV, he'd have to still control the iMac which may be in another room or even another floor. So that's not really the best solution.
FWIW, I tried it with my new iPad and hooked it up to my TV - now all I need is to find a movie online I want to watch! Just plugged it in and it worked (picked up the signal from my router) ......

  • Ideal network to share 2TB iTunes library with mac mini and iMacs by wifi?

    Greetings,
Just made the move from pc to apple world. First time poster. Please feel free to suggest if this topic is better suited in another area.
I am looking for an ideal means of sharing my music library (+/- 1.5TB size) from my mac mini with my 2 kids iMacs.
The mac mini has an internal 80GB SSD and 4 GB RAM. It connects via ethernet to my Netgear WNDR 3700 wifi a/b/n router which connects to a Docsis 3 modem. Speed and signal strength is great.
My music library is currently backed up on a Seagate USB desktop HDD. My interim plan is to use USB to connect it to the mini. Long term plan is to migrate to a NAS system.
The kids iMacs (1x 2006 model with core duo and 1 x 20008 with core 2 duo) both run snow leopard 10.6.3 and access wifi signals for internet. Wifi signals ~16-20 Mbps strength.
Is there prefered method to share the music library with the kids by wifi? Only one way? do I need to add airport devices, or? It would be extremely difficult to provide ethernet to their rooms.
    Thanks

  • Imac loses wifi repeatedly

I opened the box on the new iMac, and updated software, uploaded some programs (skype, dropbox, firefox). Everything seemed to be working fine.
    Then i added firefox sync.
is it a coinicidence that now  i have connection problems?
skype connects and drops, connects and drops
efforts to load web pages are successful and then fail.
the ipad also semed to be failing, suggesting a problem with my router.
    wired browsing was working fine.
Came home, and added firefox sync to home mac.
Now i cant use firefox without powerbook dropping internet.
However, here i am on safari without a problem.
I dont understand what is going on?
is it Firefox sync? is it something else?

The below has solved my Safari hanging when loading web pages and eliminated my finding the wifi on boot up.  It has been a month now and waiting a minute always works for connecting to my airport extreme on boot.  I was cleaning behind my desk and realized that the ethernet cable was still attached to the back of the iMac even though I had moved the airport upstairs.  I disconnected it.  I also opened network preferences.  The wifi was moved a long time ago to the top for priority, but the inactive ethernet and firewire were still listed.  I removed both the ethernet and firewire so the only connection listed is wifi.  My computer has now reliabily found the internet for the last 3 weeks without waiting.  It appears that having the other two options disrupts the connection process on boot.  It also must cause the computer to continue trying to use the connection when using Safari.

  • IMac loses wifi

iMac spontaneously loses wifi in the middle of work, many times a day. Had been fine for a year and now much trouble. iPhone and iPad on same network do not have this trouble.
If I turn off iMac wifi and then turn it back on, network reattaches
    Any help? Thanks....
