IMac Error Beep Fix!!!

Hi all, I just wanted to post some success I just had with a mid 2007 20" Aluminimum iMac having a strange error where on bootup had "3 short, 3 long, 3 short" beeps.
Now after ringing Apple Support and my local Apple repairer and being told that the logic board had failed and needed replacing, I just could not accept that. I opened my mac and discovered (using the 4 LED lights on the logic board) found that the logic board was fine, just the firmware had somehow got corrupted and the computer was freaking out.
What I did to remedy this was to download the correct firmware restoration CD off the Apple Support Website and restore the firmware.
5 mins later VOILA!!!!! Machine was booting again and chugging along nicely.
I URGE ALL USERS TO TRY THIS BEFORE CONTACTING SUPPORT FOR A LOGIC BOARD REPLACEMENT.
I just saved myself $1000 by trying this first. Im amazed that I was told by Apple themselves that my logic board needed replacing and they didnt even suggest that I should try a firmware recovery first.

Hi there, it seems that you may have a faulty RAM slot by the sounds of it. If you have another iMac somewhere maybe try to borrow the RAM out of it temporaily to do some testing. It would be unlikely that two sticks are faulty but I have come across it before.
I was lucky with mine, I would say that software update had a failed attempt at doing a firmware update and it crashed my logic board. How I got to recovery wa by following these stpes:
1. Find a spare Apple laptop or desktop and head over to the apple support website and download the correct firmware for your iMac. THIS IS IMPORTANT TO GRAB THE CORRECT SOFTWARE AS IF YOU GET THE WRONG ONE YOUR IMAC MAY BE DAMAGED. Once you have done this follow the instuctions on the website to burn the firmware to a cd
2. Unlpug all cables including power cable from your iMac and hold the power button down.
3. Keep holding the power button down and reconnect the power cable. Once connected release and press and hold the power button until you hear one long beep
4. Do not let go until you hear this very long beep as this indicates you are in firmware recovery mode
5. Once you have heard the long beep let the power button go and then insert the cd that you have just burnt
6. Let the iMac read the disk and it will show a grey screen with a status bar indicating that it is installing the firmware.
7. Wait for the process to finish and let the iMac reboot.
If all has gone well that should revive your imac and you should be right to go. As I mentioned before if you can try another stick of RAM first you may just have two faulty ones. If you have tried or cant get another stick and its still playing up, then I would say that your logic board definately needs replacing.
Let me know how you go

  • NEW 970A-G46 - No Error Beeps, No Video...

I had a 785GM-E51 with a AMD Phenom II 655 Processor that stopped working on me. It turned on, the fans and hard drives started but nothing was running on the screen. After checking the GPU, memory, and power supply I found a crack in the mainboard near the CPU (no idea how it got there). When I plugged in my POST card it sat at 0000 (I was not getting any error beeps).
So I bought a new board: 970A-G46. I got everything plugged in, the CPU reseated and this time it POSTs but it stops at the code d6d6 with nothing on the screen (again I am not hearing any error beeps). I can't find this code anywhere online and was wondering if anyone has seen it before or may know what it means? I've also rechecked the memory (one stick at a time as I don't have any extra DDR 3 laying around) and GPU. My memory isn't listed as having been tested on this motherboard, but I can't see why it wouldn't work. Any help would truly be appreciated.
    Mainboard: MSI 970A-46
    CPU: AMD Phenom II 955 - HDZ955FBK4DGM
    GPU: 9600GT DDR3 1 GB
    Power Supply: Corsair TX750W

    Hard Drives: 2 320Gb Seagate - ST3320820AS
POST Card: Gino 4-Digit PC Mainboard POST Diagnostic Analyzer Test Card

no problem pTrick I'm happy it fixed your problem as i suspected that it was just reading the AMI error/post codes that are 2 symbol hex codes and displaying it twice on your 4 number display card!
have fun with your now working computer and thank you for reporting back  ...

  • Tecra S1 boots correctly but does not work properly and has BIOS error beeps

Toshiba S1 has started to crash regularly after a certain period of use.
    Sometimes: BIOS error beeps: Short-short-long.
Sometimes: Bluescreen of reduced screen size/reduced resolution.
Sometimes: Just crashes (frozen) and has to be shut off manually.
As Toshiba uses its own BIOS, does anyone know what these beep sounds mean or can provide support?
Is it a hardware / connection problem between graphic card and monitor or is it a memory error?

    Hi,
did you tried to make a memory test? If not, I would suggest you to make it. For such tests I would prefer using "memtest86" (www.memtest86.com)
Otherwise I would assume that your mainboard is malfunctioning and you will have to bring your machine to an local ASP.
If you need help finding an ASP, here is a good site:

  • I took my iMac to be fixed and when i got it back, mail was not set up. I called Apple Support and they helped me set up mail. Then the emails went to trash on the iMac and on the MacBook Pro (same emails). There are no numbers by the 'inbox' to tell how

I took my iMac to be fixed and when I got it back, mail was not set, so I called Apple and they helped me set up mail. Now the new mail goes to trash and there is no number by the 'inbox' to tell me how many new messages I have. I cannot save a draft to 'drafts.' There is a large number by 'trash' (I think all mail went to trash - including drafts). When I send myself an emai, it goes to trash also. This is on both my iMac (the one taken in) and my MacBook Pro (same emails) which was not taken in.
I went to 'rules' but have no idea what to do there. There are no rules in the rule box. When I click 'add rule' it puts 'rule 1' in the rule box, but since that was not there when I took it in, I delete it to have an empty rule box.
Can someone pleasehelp me. I am completely stupid with all this. Do not under stand what is suppose to be set up in 'rules.'
    Thank you so much,
    Arudi

Now new mail is coming to both computer's inboxes but there is no number on the stamp icon on dock to show number of emails on the iMac. Nor is there a number by either email address under MAILBOXES/inbox (sidebar) on the iMac. This number is showing on MacBook Pro.
I also can save drafts now on both computers.
Seems the Pro is fixed and the iMac is only missing the numbers on dock icon and by addresses in inbox.
Now that the problem is less, I feel i am wasting your time but will continue so maybe I can get those numbers back.
Two emails > AT&T email and gmail.
Apple's Mail program for email - yes, and gmail.
    IMAP for both accounts.
Did not change mail configuration on MacBook.
The iMac and MacBook Pro have the same mail configuration except in Accounts/mailbox behaviours/store draft messages on the server was not marked on MacBook > it is now.
'Store junk messages on the server' was marked on one computer for gmail, but is unmarked on both now.
On the iMac, Accounts/Accounts info/Outgoing mail for gmail is smtpgmail.
On the MacBook Pro for gmail it is smpt.gmail.com (plus) my email address.
Rules/Add rule window, on the MacBook third line is 'Any Recipient', on the iMac third line is 'From."
The last box on that line has my email address on the MacBook.
The last box on that line has the last address I sent an emil to (last night), on the iMac.
On the last line on iMac, no box was selicted for 'to mailbox' > I choose 'inbox' because it is on the MacBook Pro.
Now I have a Rule #1 and am not sure I should have because there was no rules marked when I took the computer in.
Thank you. I relized I had done the labeling wrong when so much of my question appeared twice and no one else's did. I know how to do it now.
    Thank you so much,

  • Boot Up BIOS Error Beeps????

I have installed WinXP SP2 and my system is booting fine.  When I boot my system up however I get what sounds like BIOS error beeps (AMI 1.3).  I've scanned the threads and checked the beep pattern against the documented patterns but cannot find a match.  The beeps make the following pattern:
(all short beeps) - high beep, pause, high beep, low beep, high beep, low beep.
anyone else experience this?  since its beeping there must be something the BIOS is trying to tell me I just can't figure out what it is.  I did reset the memory sticks since many of the error beep codes refer to memory, but that didn't stop the beeping.  Any help is appreciated.

I punted...  Never did find out why this board and BIOS was giving me stupid error beeps.  I returned this MSI board and got an Intel D925XCV board and 99% of the problems I was encountering - and it appears the rest of you are encountering went away.  Everything including my new SATA drive installed perfectly the first time.  Food for thought...

As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.

Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)
If 3rd party plug-ins are installed try disabling them to verify if one of those may be responsible for the problem.

  • RAM error beep when trying to boot install disc

I'm trying to re-install OSX in order to get a clean system and upgrade the OS. However, if I try to boot from the OSX Leopard install disc, I get the three RAM error beeps. I bought new compatible RAM (2x2GB SODIMM), tried with one of the old banks, then the other, in both available slots, then the new RAM - nothing helps: Booting the system with no install disc inserted works fine, having it inserted results in the beeps. It doesn't matter if I try straight boot, pressing C, using rEFIt or going for the device's own pre-boot OS selection menu, nothing helps.
I had the screen replaced on warranty a couple weeks ago, but I do not assume that poses a problem. Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

Why do you have rEFIt installed?
To be able to multi-boot OSX, Win7, and Ubuntu.
What is your machine and what OS X does it have?
Early 2011 MacBook Pro 15" non-glare screen. 4GB stock RAM.
    What's on the disk 10.5 or 10.6?
The disk is Leopard, as far as I can remember. I believe I got Snow Leopard over the App store.
Have you cleaned the disk, use another?
I don't exactly have another disc ... but I tried to image them to a SD card and that gave the same results.
What are you trying to do exactly?
Completely wipe the drive (low-level) to be able to sell the device.

  • Trying to run JBoss with Oracle8i - Error: "error while fixing table name"

I'm trying to configure Jboss_3_2_1 to run with Oracle 8i. I intend to use it to deploy EJB on the Oracle DataSource.
I have already change the following files:
oracle-ds.xml -> changed the <connection-url> tag to my configuration
    oracle-xa-ds.xml -> changed the <xa-datasource-property name="URL"> tag
to my configuration. But I'm not sure how to exactly configure this
    property.
    My first doubt is:
Using the Oracle 8i, witch of the two config files above I should use to the datasource tag in the jbosscmp-odbc.xml file.
    The second one is:
Using the XAOracleDS (Oracle 8i) as the <datasource>, and the <datasource-mapping> tag as Oracle8 (as suggested in the jbosscmp-odbc.xml file) I get the following error message from the JBoss server:

  • Error beeps (when pressing keys)

    Hi,
How does one stop the annoying error beeps occurring when an unused keyboard key - such as the 'Esc' key - is pressed in a window based Cocoa application?

    I've found a solution.
For anyone wondering the same question, try placing the following method in the code of each .m file, and test if it works:
    - (void) keyDown: (NSEvent*) theEvent {}
For me, it was the NSView .m file, that made it work.

  • P6n diamond - error beeps and freezing

Ok so I have had the MSI p6n diamond since july. Since the beginning I couldn't buff the Anti Aliasing to more than 4x or else my game would (whole pc) freeze up with the sound also freezing. So I just didn't buff it. Recently I started getting problems. No matter what I am doing, my PC freezes up. If it is in a game the sound gets freeze choppy, you know what I mean, no matter at what settings I play it. Then the whole PC started freezing up like this. It is working, but not doing anything, just being on. And the image on the monitor is frozen. Is it possible to be the mouse, because I sometimes have to change the usb slot of the mouse when it goes to sleep? So the only way to use the PC after a freeze, is to restart via the button on the case. But then sometimes, an odd thing happens. I get this 5-10 second continuous beep from the start which then has a 1 second pause and again the long beep. I tried searching in the manual and on the intranetz, but all the info was different and the only error thing connected in the manual was the LED codes. And when the beep is on, the led codes are nothing out of the ordinary. Basically it wont go through the intitial beep when the pc is turned on. So i restart it a few times, just getting the beep, or getting a blank screen and nothing happening. Then the same stuff happens, if I go into bios, it will sometimes freeze there, so that leads me to think that It is not the Windows, which i installed over 3 times (fresh installs). I defragmented the hard drive a few times using O&O defrag. Basically I am out of options. Help would be appreciated a lot.

PS Maybe it is a voltage issue? It is at auto voltage, but maybe I should change it? Everything is at auto voltage btw. What should the voltages be?
Basically what error beeps mean would be the greatest help you could give me. But only for this mobo specifically. I want to know in which part of my pc the problem is.

"Then the same stuff happens, if I go into bios, it will sometimes freeze there"
It looks like PSU fault..Try with better PSU.. Good suggestions can be found here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=112039.msg836246#msg836246
Also check CPU cooling system, re-seat CPU and apply new thermal paste(but not too much)

  • K7N2 Delta2 - Barton 3200+ reboots and fails to post with error beep

I recently upgraded to a K7N2 Delta2 with a 3200+ Barton CPU, 1 GB  Corsair 3200 RAM and a Geforce6600 AGP.  After having numerous power/cooling problems I went out and got an Antec TruePower 430 and installed another fan in the back of the case, after which I still saw insufficient power to the NIC and CPU.  After removing the 6600 and replacing it with my old Geforce 4 Ti 4600, things ran smoothly for a couple of days.  Last night however, (after a particularly long period of gaming) the system shut down and then failed to post, giving me a repeated error beep.  I let it cool down, reset the CMOS jumpers, and swapped out the new RAM with an older Corsair 512 DIMM.  The system posted with "CMOS defaults loaded".  I thought great, it's my RAM, I'll just shut it down, plug everything back in, and game for a couple hours before Circuit City opens.  The second time I tried to boot however, it failed to post, but no error beep this time.

Did your board come with the d-led bracket and if it did which led's light up with what color and in what sequence? also go into you profile and create a sig listing all system specs similar to mine.
Try holding down the insert key while you power it up. If it loads, it'll be at default settings and you'll need to reset everything in the bios.
OOps, just noticed you sig but it still needs all hardware listed including all cd, dvd, and hard drives, how many case fans, etc.
