Imac Error Message 4SNS/1/40000000:TH00-9.000

I have an Inter Imac 3.06 I3 and just upgraded the harddrive from a 500gb to a 3tb Western Didgital Cavalier green.
As far as I can see, everything was put back correclty (not much to move when installing anyway) but ever since I put it all back, used time machine to get it back to the way I wanted (of sorts) after about 10-30 mins the Mac fan kicks in. Never did that before. Now this never happened before and the drive runs quiet and you cannot feel it over heating.
I ran the Apple Hardware test and it came up with 4SNS/1/40000000:THOO-9.000
As far as I can see, this and every other code seems to relate to the imac fan switching on when ever it wants.
any ideas on how I can rectify this issue without have to revert back to the old hard drive?
Thanks
G

From 2009 onward iMacs come with HD's that have circuitry for fan sensors integrated into the drives. This means if you installed an off the shelf HD it probably is missing this circuitry therefore causing the fan malfunction. In order to fix the problem correctly you will need to remove and replace the drive currently installed. I would recommend contacting either OWC (www.macales.com) or a local AASP for information about what drives will work in your machine.

Has anybody experience the above error message. Other forums suggest that it is Thermal Sensor failure. If so has anybody any idea how much this would cost approximately to have the problem sorted. I need my mac and this is a pain.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
That error code indicates a problem with a thermal sensor. It could be not working or possibly not connected. You will need to take it to Apple for repair. If you are under warranty, the repair will be covered by the warranty.
    Good luck!

The Apple Hardware Test gaves the error 4SNS/1/40000000/TH00-9.000
I tried to fix HD (but says it is ok), I reset the PRAM, VRAM, and the SMC but it did not works.
    Help me please,
    Luigi.

I really don't know.  Could be as simple as a cable.  iMac's hard drives do have a sensor cable attached to the drive from the logic board.  But there's really no way of telling.  I assume apple gives estimates for repairs.

  • Extreme Fan Speed (Error Code: 4SNS/1/40000000:Tp0P-131.000)

My 20" 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Aluminum iMac was purchased on 3/21/08 and it was perfect up until about the end of November. Now upon immediate boot up the CPU fan runs up to 3500 rpm for no apparent reason. At first this problem would only happen every now and then, but now it does it every single time. I've tried several things like reseting the PRAM and the SMC and that would work at first, but that doesn't do anything now. I ran the Apple Hardware Test and I got an error code (4SNS/1/40000000:Tp0P-131.000) when the fan was running at 3500 rpm, but when I ran the Apple Hardware Test when the fan was running at normal speed no error code came up. I recently took my iMac to an Apple Store and they looked at it and kept it for about a week and they said they could not find anything wrong with it and told me it was "normal" for the fans to speed up every now and then when it needs to cool down, but why would it need to cool down when I just booted it up and have no applications running? They told me that it could be a logic board problem or fan problem and they ordered the parts, but did not replace anything due to them not being able to find a problem. This problem has become extremely annoying cause the fan is quite loud and I absolutely loved the silence of the iMac when it was brand new. I don't have AppleCare, but my iMac is still under the 1 year warranty and I'm starting to feel that the only way Apple will do anything about this problem is if I purchase AppleCare. So has anyone else encountered this problem and if you have were you able to get it taken care of cause I'm getting extremely tired of this fan noise and I'm in desperate need of a solution.

I gave them the error code when I took it in and they just kind of shrugged it off and days later they called saying they ran several extended tests and were not able to detect anything wrong or reproduce my problem, but I remember the guy at the Genius Bar was able to reproduce the problem.

my macbook also don t reconize any external usb speakers.

someone could help me, thanks a lot

Well, for the last 2 hours, I have been using my MacBook Pro with the battery removed and have had open all the apps that would normally be open; Safari, iTunes, Mail and a couple of others. The fans have stopped blowing at full tilt as they were before, and when I open up a more CPU hungry app like Boxee, the fans go up to over 6000 rpm, but then go back to quiet levels (around 5000 rpm) when it is shut down, whereas before they would either hit 6000 for no apparent reason, or hit 6000 when a CPU hungry app would open, but then never spin back down again.
I think removing the battery has helped but I will take the machine in to an Apple tech tomorrow.

  • What does error code: 4SNS/1/40000000: tm0p -61.000 mean?

I just dropped my MacBook Pro "17 i5 500GB 4G RAM (2010 Model) about 3 feet from a chair on to the floor of my house (hard wood flooring), unfortunately.
Everything seems to work well but I went and did a hardware check, but Pressing "D" at startup, I got this error:
    4SNS/1/40000000: tm0p -61.000
    What does this mean?

Thanks, I will try to take it to the Apple Genius Bar this week.
And I have 3 more questions:
How much will this sensor cost? is it expensive?
Is it a serious issue? Because when I run the hardware test, it only gives me this error in the short test NOT extended test.

  • What does AHT error code 4SNS/1/40000000:TB1T-128.000 mean?

My MacBook froze on me last night while running Firefox w/ 4 windows open, each with 6 or more tabs.  Seemed partly due to using the instant message ap on Facebook.  The machine forze with the beach ball spinning it's heart out.  Shut it down, restarted, and got a freeze during start up.  Tried again this morning and the machine seemed to run ok for a session, after which I closed the lid without shutting down.  After opeing the lid, the machine ran ok, then slow, then froze.  I eliminated peripheral problems, eliminated software problems, then ran an Apple Hardware Test.
    It produced the code:  4SNS/1/40000000:TB1T-128.00
This code does not show up in Google or this forum.  Any idea what it means or where I may find out what it means?  It's a late 2008 MacBook, so no warranty whatsoever.
Thanks in advance for any help!
    Kermit

I ran the hardware test on my MacBook unibody and got the same result. Did you ever get an answer as to what this code means? I haven't been able to Google it either.

  • MBP 13" - 7,1 error: 4sns/1/40000000:tn1d-104.000

My computer fan runs constantly even when just using Firefox and the macbook also runs very hot. I've done a lot of audio recording in the past and the noise is always a problem. Also, last week I installed a couple programs to livestream video and hope I didn't fry something because my CPU was running over 100%.
The worst thing is that yesterday while I was watching a youtube video I began to see a bunch of horizontal white lines going back and forth across the entire screen. It didn't come back after a hard reboot but...
This morning I ran the hardware diagnostic test and it returned the following error message:
    4sns/1/40000000:tn1d-104.000
Does anyone know what might be causing this?

The fan in the MBP will run high as a default if the sensor has failed (6200 rpm).  Did you tell the technician about the AHT error message?  Did he take any corrective action or tell you specifically what options there were to rectify the situation?
Based on your reply, I am concerned that you may have gotten a short shrift.
    Ciao.

    Hello
everybody this is my fisrt time on the apple forum and i hope i have come to the right place to post this topic.
i have this problem with a 20" 2.4ghz 3gb ram 320gb hard drive.the optical drive fan started to run high a couple of months ago (approx 3000rpm) under heavy computer use (ie lots of apps running) Ran the Apple Hardware test and the error
    message 4SNS/1/40000000: TOOP comes up.
does anybody know what the fault is and how to rectify it.
I replaced the optical drive thermal sensor cable and the problem still exists.
    thank you
    Darren

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
After Googling your error code it seems like it's related to the fans not operating correctly. You probably did not fix the problem and may have missed putting it back together correctly or damaged a connection. Either way it will need to be taken apart to see where the problem is. You can attempt doing a SMC and PRAM resets however I doubt they would help out.
If you can't figure it out take the machine into a AASP to be looked at by a professional.

  • AHT Error 4SNS/1/40000000:Te2S-128.000

    Hi,
I just ran the Apple Hardware Test on my Mac Pro (desktop) 4,1 with OS Snow Leopard.. and I had an error code which I can't find anywhere online on what error is it referring to. Do anyone know what is this error? How do I fix it?
    AHT Error code 4SNS/1/40000000:Te2S-128.000
What does it mean? And how can I fix the error?

Only Apple really knows. Sensor for some type.
What are you using to monitor thermal sensors and the rest of the system?
    Download Temperature Montor
Schedule or take it in for a free checkup.
You can google to find the Apple Service Diagnostic CD.
Your Mac is 4 yrs old so likely out of AppleCare?
I could only find notebooks and they wree not that particular sensor code.

  • What type of sensor is 4SNS / 1 / 40000000: TGOH- 128.000

    Hello all,
this is my very first post. At the moment the CPU fan in my iMac (2008, 2.8GHz C2D, Nvidia 8800) is running at full speed. Apple hardware test is returning an error code:
    4SNS / 1 / 40000000: TGOH- 128.000
I checked this forum and it seems to be a problem with a temperature sensor. So my question is:
What sensor is this exactly as there are several in the machine (CPU, GPU, ambient, ODD etc.) ? Is TGOH referring to the GPU sensor?
What is the meaning of TGOH?
What is the meaning of the numbers (40000000 and 128.000) ?
Just a brief explanation: The graphic card in my produced serious faults on the LCD (dots, blinking areas, half the screen orange etc.). I disassambled the iMac, had the graphic card in the oven (200°C for 10min) and replaced the termal paste. After building it all together, the graphic card now works again (no kidding ). But now the fan is running full speed, and I cannot find the fault.
    Very much appreciate your feedback.
    Thanks and greetings from switzerland
    Andreas

Thanks for the tips. Actually I already tried reseting the SMC / PRAM. I was just wondering that AHT is showing a HW error in one of the sensors.
Anyway, I will take the iMac apart and check all connections. Maybe I missed something. I will post when I find the error.
BTW. Yes I placed the entire graphic card board (without the heatpipe) in the oven. I`ve done that before with the entire logicboard of a MBP (with all the connectors etc.). It had a black screen of death, but works again until today. In my case it was a question of having several CHF worth of nice paperweight or giving it a try
But with my iMac i guess the problem really was that the thermal compount was not evenly spread on the GPU. When I removed the heatsink , there were blank spots on the GPU. So I guess the GPU had heat spots. "Baking" it was just a additional precausion.
I just wonder that many NVidia 8x00 seem to produce errors/faults in the Macs.

I suspect you have hardware problem with a fan sensor. Doing a software install will not help the machine needs to be taken in for service. If you run Apple Hardware Test in Extended Mode it should reveal the error code. If it does not then run AHT an additional 2-3 times to be sure in Extended Mode. Each pass will take about 30-60 minutes.

  • Apple hardware test error 4SNS/1/40000000: TB1T-128.000

    I have just bought a used Macbook unibody 2.4, 6GB DDR3, 500GB 7200
And did a apple hardware test which showed the error "4SNS/1/40000000: TB1T-128.000"
What might it mean and how serious it might be?
I tried to google it and found out but not successfully.
    Could anyone help with it?
    Thank you.

It's a sensor error. We have no access to the "translation" of hardware test diagnostic messages. You'll need to take the computer to an Apple service center.

  • I am getting error 4SNS/1/40000000: TG0H-128.000 ? what does this mean.

    HI there,
I ran apple hardware test through snow leopard OS disk 2,  i got this error 4SNS/1/40000000: TG0H-128.000 , My fans are continously running at 5700 rpm even i am doing nothing. I have booked an appointment with genius bar on monday 6 may. are they expensive to repair or should i find a local apple technician ? is there any other method to fix it.

Your computer has to start from the Windows disc but it's not doing this. After creating the volume, make sure that the Windows disc is inserted, and turn on your Mac holding the Option (Alt) key, so you will see all bootable partitions. Choose the "Windows" option with a DVD, so the Windows installer will start and you must follow its steps.
If you need help installing Windows, follow the steps of this how-to > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf
