Imac Facetime contacts

I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion. Last night I launched the facetime app to use it. The app is not reading the OS X Address Book (Contacts) - the list is empty.
Prior to the mountain lion upgrade (since I first got the mac over a year ago) I did move the address book from 'userhome/library/Application Support' to a shared folder, to which all the users on the mac have read/write permission. Additionally I created a sym link from each user's 'userhome/library/Application Support' folder to this share folder.
Outside the facetime app, all the users can see the Contacts just fine. Additionally all the users can sycn their individual iPhone with Contacts just fine.
Any advice would be appreicated.

  • New 4s is missing built-in apps ; facetime, contacts, and HD Video icons, how do I recover them?

I bought two new iPhone 4S's from Sprint, one for my wife, one for me.  Both are missing at least three built-in apps including: Facetime, Contacts, HD Video, and who knows what else.  I am new to the iPhone world, so no previous backup from which to restore.  How do I get the apps installed or the icons to appear?

    You cannot delete them.
The are either on another page, in a folder, or you have restrictions set.
    Check all of these.
If you do not find them, then reset your home screen layout.
All is covered in the manual:

  • Why can't I use icloud as my FaceTime contact

Got new iPad and set up new icloud account and FaceTime won't allow me to use this as FaceTime contact?

Flash is not supported on any iOS device (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch) : http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/ . Apps such as Skyfire claim to support flash, but their reviews are mixed.
In terms of Firefox, you can only install apps (i.e. programs) that are available in the iTunes App Store, not normal PC or Mac software - the iPad runs iOS, not OS or Windows. If the makers of Firefox havn't created an iOS version of it then you cannot run it.
Edit : some websites (especially news sites) have their own apps in the App Store

  • Syncing using my iPhone/iMac (cal, contacts, etc.)?

Syncing using my iPhone/iMac (cal, contacts, etc.) iMac to iPhone. How do I get syncing both ways? It used to work. I've tried syncing from the computer, and from iCloud. I've resorted to duplicating updated information everytime I have a new date or contact.

    Hey blind guy!
I see that you are having issues with syncing your information to your computer through iCloud and iTunes. One step you may want to try is turning off the syncing of your information when syncing with iTunes and just syncing your information with iCloud. If that does not achieve the desired results, then I have found an article that should help you troubleshoot the issue. It can be found here:

  • New iPod Touch Facetime - Contact does have Facetime button

My wife and I recently got new iPod touches (iOS Version 4.3.5) and we wanted to use Facetime to chat with one another. I set up facetime on each iPod touch with our Apple IDs and emails, made sure Facetime was turned on in Settings on both touches, but the contact page for neither of us has a Facetime button to press. For this initial test we are using our home Wifi connection and the connection seems fine. Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong - it is supposed to be so simple, but it is making me feel simple.

Never mind, I figured it out - you just press the email, there is not "Facetime" button.

  • Imac FaceTime unable to connect to network (safari connected and loading pages).

I have a brand new Imac, I have never been able to get facetime to work. It keeps getting hung up on the log in page, and eventually gives me an error message of unable to connect to network. Safari and other web based programs are working perfectly.
    Any Ideas?

How can I get my Mac to join an open 3Com wireless
network? The network is recognised but Mac is unable
    to connect...
The 3Com wireless router is connected to a broadband
router through a PC running XP.
Do you have two routers? That may be your issue. You should only be using one router, or configure one of the routers and turn of DHCP.

  • Is it possible please to sync my iphone 4 with my 5.5 year old imac - especially contacts.I don't think icloud is on the mac - only "mobile me". imac is 10.6.8 and iphone is

Is it possible please to sync iphone 4 (7.1.2) with imac (10.6.8)
I particularly want contacts syncd. Can't find icloud on the imac, just "mobile me"
Have tried cable link /itunes rout but no success

What happened when you tried the iTunes / Cable method.?
Mobile Me no longer exists and iCloud requires 10.7.5 or more, upgrade your version of OS X.

  • I accidentally removed my phone number from my iphone as a facetime contact for me. now my facetime won't work at all. Any ideas?

I accidently unchecked my phone number as being a contact point for FaceTime on my iphone 4s. Now it just says that it is waiting for activation....
Facetime worked yesterday, but not today, after I synced my new phone with itunes on my computer....
    Any ideas?
    Thank you!

A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.
No content is affected by this procedure.

  • Glitch with FaceTime contacts on Macbook pro

I'm having an issue with FaceTime on my Macbook pro.  When I type some contacts names in the FaceTime search bar, and select a FaceTime call, it will call a different contact.  Then after the call fails to the wrong contact it shows yet a 3rd different contact in the recently called list.  So for example if I try and call my son it will dial someone else and then show I called yet someone else in the history.  2009 Macbook pro Yosemite OS X 10.10.2

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
This user tip might help you understand how accounts work with Contacts (Address Book).
First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.

  • IMac Facetime won't receive calls after upgrade to Mavericks

    Hi all,
I am experiencing a strange issue with Facetime on my 2012 iMac running Mavericks.
    Here's the deal:
Upgraded my iMac and MacBook Air to Mavericks
I am able to PLACE calls from all machines (so my account seems to be working fine)
When being called my iMac won't respond...no message, no sound, no nothing...plays dead man
My MacBook Air behaves normally (also Mavericks)
I have tried all of the following:
disabled and re-enabled Facetime (to maybe override some config issue inherited from before the upgrade)
tried to receive calls with and without Facetime running
    rebooted...several times
all the latest updates are installed
I have not (knowingly) changed anything after the upgrade. "Don't disturb" is off and Facetime calls are allowed for everyone.
    Any ideas?
    Best regards,
    Beschi

Hi all, Problem not solved yet.
Maybe you can give your 2 cents to my working hypothesis:
Could it be that some background process/service is used to continuously monitor incoming requests/calls? Could it be that this process fires up Facetime and forwards incoming calls (Facetime calls are received without Facetime running, right? So something must capture them...)? Could it be that in my case this process is either not running or configured incorrectly (account, password)?
Maybe you can put me on the right track?!
    Best regards,
    Frustrated Beschi

  • New iMac, now contacts and cals won't sync to iPod Touch

After migrating from a G4/Tiger to an iMac/Snow Leopard on Friday, I have experienced many keychain and permissions-related problems. I have been able to solve all except one. It involves iTunes not syncing Info (contacts, cals, etc). I have tried everything under the sun and still cannot make it work. I have compiled a detailed account of the problem with screen shots here:
    http://bit.ly/7YmE4S
If anyone has ideas, please post. I have not been able to arrange a support call with apple yet because it keeps getting rejected and I am told to try again later.

I set up a new standard user to see if iSync problem was solved and it was. Remember, I could not open iSync AT ALL in my current user account. I erased my iPod and synced it with the new user and it worked. At that point, I got fully committed to transferring my files over to the new user instead of piddling with more solutions that might or might not work for this and a variety of other issues that came up during migration. (Nothing against your suggestion which I am sure is a very good one...I am just tired of jumping through hoops with no results at this point and thought a fresh start was in order.)
Anyway, all seems well now. The new user account seems to have cleared everything up except for the printing, but that is due to apple dropping appletalk support, so I will have to tackle that in a different way. Transferring my files to a new user was not as laborious as I thought because most apps have export/import. I am still looking for a way to change permission to large batches of files/folders that are nested. "Apply to enclosed items" does not do the trick.
    Thanks again for the assistance.

  • FaceTime contact issue (iPhone 4s)

I am having trouble using FaceTime with my family members. It keeps using the house phone as the number to FaceTime to. I have been trying all morning to FaceTime my brother and it would show up as my father's number, or my mother's, or even my own. I am really confused as to why this is happening. I have been checking the support articles to no avail. I was going to ask Apple Support to help me, but I don't want to pay $19 for them to probably try and say that it is my fault or something. Any help is appreciated.

How are you selecting the contact to FaceTime with? Are you tapping on the contact? Are you selecting them in Favorites? When you select the contact, you should be tapping on the FaceTime icon, or if you are opening the FaceTime app, then select the contact and it should allow you the option to select the iPhone number or Apple ID? Which iPhone are you using and what iOS version?

  • Intel iMac FaceTime fail?

I've recently downloaded FaceTime for my Intel iMac which is running OSX 10.6.8.  The person I'm trying to call is on the latest version of iPad.  I've successfully created an AppleID and am using that address with FaceTime.  Whenever make a call, it rings on the other end, in which they accept.  It then says Connecting.... but fails everytime.  They have successfully used FaceTime with other iPads, but not with any Macs.
The version of FaceTime I bought from the app store says that it is 1.0.2 (166).  Can anyone help me troubleshoot?  Is there a later version I need, or do I perhaps have something configured improperly?

  • Deleted contacts on my imac and contacts are now missing on my iphone

I noticed that my iphone contacts have automatically appeared on my works imac, so quickly deleted them all today.
I did not know that my imac in work was synced to my icloud account and my iphone.  Which has deleted my contacts on my iphone.
I tried to backup my iphone from an earlier backup from my home imac (not icloud) and the contacts are still not appearing.
I can find all the contact data on my imac via my library folder but do not know how to add them back onto my iphone.

    I have tried that approach.
I have tried to backup from a previous imac backup (not icloud) and still nothing.
I found my contact data files within the source folder on my mac but cannot figure out how to add them to my contact app
