IMac freezes + Alarm sounds off ??
I have an imac 21" approx 6 months old. Occasionaly freezes and a beeping sound like an alarm sounds off and does not stop. Only way to resolve is to turn off my imac and back on again. Anyone has any idea, by the way I'm new to macs.
My iMac has just started doing this after I installed two 2GB RAM. I guess it isn't compatible. ?? How do I know if it is compatible ..where do I look etc? I am fairly computer illiterate.

IMac freezes and sounds 3 beeps since Mavericks update
I updated my iMac to Mavericks yesterday and now it intermittantly freezes and has three beeps. I am forced to hold the power button in and then restart it. I do not use Google Drive. Any suggestions. I know three beeps is supposed to be RAM related. But this only started happening the right after the Mavericks upgrade.
3 beeps indicate a RAM issue. If you upgraded the RAM yourself then please look at:
Failed RAM (RAM DIMMS can and do fail)
Incorrect RAM
Unseated RAM
If you did not upgrade the RAM then the issue may be failed RAM. The upgrade to Mavericks is almost certainly coincidence. -
Alarm does not sound off through speakers
The alarm sounds off through the speakers when I select the type of sound to produce. However when it goes off after the time is up it only sounds off through the head phones. This is my first iPod; is this typical?
Otherwise have to say that the Touch has made me a fan.
Cheers.Hello,
I cant recall how it resolved but its seems to have done so on its own. I think that someone said to try to plug and unplug the earbuds. Maybe the connection on the inside just had to physically disengage to engage the speaker. The unit was relatively new when the problem presented and perhaps it was indeed a mechanical issue with the leads remaining in the closed position after withdrawing the ear buds.
Good luck,

HT1270 Anyone have a MacBook Pro freeze with a beeping alarm sound. What caused this.
Just wondering what caused my MacBook Pro to freeze and have a loud alarm sound. I just installed new memory.
Reinstall the old memory and see if it goes away
If it does then the new memory is bad -
Alarm goes every 10 mins, overrides sound off. Checked all programs, no help.
Siren is a basic 3rd party sound used by OSX since early days, not in Sounds Prefs.
Sys Prefs have been fully checked, all Login Items disabled.
Checked all the /lib/sounds folders. Only 'as installed' audio files.
No problems until Mountain Lion was installed and probably reorganised something. -
I have a 13 inch MacBook pro running OSx lion, after around 2 hours intermittent alarm sounds and screen freezes with coloured checks, reboots ok but reoccurs, it has a ssd drive any suggestions?
I just had this happen. I just installed new memory. Did you install any new hardware.

Why does the iPhone 4 alarm go off without any sound if sound is turned on.
Every once in a while the alarm ( original iPhone alarm) goes off, but makes no noise. Why is this and how can I fix it? Being late to work isn't okay even if it's only every once in a while. Yes, I've checked the silent switch, yes I've checked the speaker volume. No, I didn't turn off the alarm in my sleep because it is still on the screen when I wake up, saying, " ok" or "cancel" I think. That's how I know it's working, just not making sound. I've even set two alarms and I don't hear either one, but they're both on the screen when I wake up, but there's no sound. It's not even vibrating.
What user troubleshooting have you done? They are restart, reset, restore from a backup, restore as a new device or not from a backup. Restart is power phone off/on, Reset is to use the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. One of those should put you back in business.

Intel OS X 10.7 iMac has white screen and three-alarm sound, won't start up
Intel OS X 10.7 iMac has white screen and three-alarm sound, won't start up
The 3 beeps during start-up are telling you that the RAM is bad.
If you can access the RAM modules, you may try taking them out and putting them back in, perhaps it's only bad contacts.
If that doesn't help, you'll need new RAM module(s). -
this problem started last fall after upgrading to Mavericks. If I shut down my computer (or restart) I have problems getting it going again. This is getting progressively worse. I hadn't shut down in over a month, forgot about this issue and shut down (which I used to do daily), so now I can't get my computer to boot. When I hit the power button I hear it starting, then a loud alarm sounds, then a long pause then start up sound with a gray screen with a progress bar. Once the progress bar fills, the screen goes black again for a bit. This whole process will repeat until I get frustrated and force - shut down by holding the power button. I have tried reseting the pram, starting up in safe mode, starting up with the command - R, starting up with my original install disc... none of it works. I'm at a loss! I do have an external hard drive that I have been using for Time Machine, but it's not recent because the disc needs repairs and I hadn't gotten around to buying a new HD to back up to first. Has anyone else had this problem? I really can't afford a big repair/replacement bill.
A long, steady, load tone followed by a progress bar can indicate it is trying to install a Firmware Update. Any other Tones would be multiple beeps and show an error code.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5860
You can also see a progress bar similar to booting into Safe Mode. However, the firmware update bar is thinner vertically than the Safe Mode bar.
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455
Either way, I would say something is wrong and it would be better evaluated at an Apple Store as Kappy points out. -
Why would an alarm go off on my iMac when quitting Steam?
Hi, I recently installed Puzzle Pirates through my Steam gaming account. I logged off P.P. and quit it. No problem. I then quit Steam and an alarm went off on my computer as it was synching the cloud. What the heck was that about? Steam did quit within several seconds but the alarm took me by surprise. Should I be worried? Any ideas what the alarm was would be helpful. I didn't even know my computer HAD an alarm. Scared the heck out of me. lol
Thanks for any help you can give me.Hello! I recently got the ihome ih11 and was having the same problem on and off. I found out that even though the manual says the ipod has to off and docked for the ipod to go off on alarm, but I learned ipod does need to be on, but closed out play mode on home screen. Since doing this I've woke to my ipod every morning. Try it and see if that works. I have the ipod touch 2nd generation. Hope this helps!

Frozen Display and Fire alarm Sound
Hello, I hope one of you can help me.
Since yesterday my iMac had this issue three times and I still don't know what the problem ist.
Out of nowhere (just listening to some music or using facebook) the display of my iMac freezes so I can't do anything, neither click on anything or use any key combination. Besides that a loud alarm occures that soundes like a fire alarm... it makes three loud noises, a break and again three loud noices and so on and so on.
(it's hard to explain so here's a link to a video I found on youtube: http://www.google.de/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&cad=rja&ved=0CE8Qt wIwAg&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DCmH1pHer66o&ei=CJELU_7HL8XR sgau9YCgAg&usg=AFQjCNE-XBrsHOSS7Ru03KKyjsTgzKEU0g&sig2=RuCY2xbs26tFQsHSvtWgpg&bv m=bv.61725948,d.Yms )
The only way to stop it is to turn off the iMac via the start button or to unplug the power supply.
Does anyone have an idea what the cause for this might be?
Thank you very much for your help!!!
Kind Regards
Birte

IMac Freezing - No video glitch, but unresponsive
Good morning all,
In the past week or so, I've started to have problems with my iMac freezing. This has occurred while using iChat, playing World of Warcraft and while using Safari (not all at once).
In short, the video display seems to freeze. I can still hear audio (ie. the other person on iChat speaking), but everything else in non-responsive. The keyboard does not respond and I cannot ALT-Tab or open any other programs. My only recourse is to manually turn off the computer and try again.
It's usually a guaranteed failure when opening up Warcraft. About 4 seconds after the program has opened, the computer freezes.
I've searched the forums and have come across several threads that involve some sort of graphical glitch, from which I do not suffer. That being said, I thought a new thread might be appropriate.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,My iMac has been repeatedly freezing when I am working in Final Cut Express. It plays the sound but freezes the video. It has been a horrible experience to try to edit 'blind'!
I have vacuumed the air vents, installed smcFan Control (great to manual adjust fan speeds on all 3 internal fans), re-installed Snow Leopard & gone through copious hours as all the software updates each time I've re-installed, and I run the disc doctor program. It started happening around the time Steve Jobs said Apple would no longer use Flash. I thought it a Flash issue since it only has to do with the playback of video. Today I discovered that clips I downloaded yesterday were also freezing in my desktop Picasa. Meaning it's not Final Cut, or Picasa, and unlikely my video card as all videos streamed from the NET (on YouTube, etc) play fine, and in fact my videos that freeze on my iMac when uploaded to YouTube or Facebook play fine.
I am enormously and thoroughly frustrated, as you can imagine. I had 15 clips from the G20 Protest March yesterday and was not able to make an adequate video to upload out of them because the video keeps freezing, and losing synch with the audio - and every time you try to play it, it freezes in a different spot!!
Horrendous problem.
Today, then, following advice in this thread, I will try re-installing back an update or so on OSX - I'm using 10.6.4, and perhaps need to go backwards?
This is an awful problem and I am surprised Apple hasn't addressed it. Perhaps it only relates to computers a few years old?
A usually very happy iMac user who is very disgruntled these days...
