Imac freezes during start-up. Seems to be caused by Airport issue.

My Imac freezes during startup. I have tried starting it in safe mode without any luck. After the initial start sequence when it gets to this point: Airport linkup en1, the computer starts writing the same line endlessly: com.apple.launch [1] (com.apple.mDNSRsponder [2710]): posix_spawnp (“/usr/sbin/mDNSResponder”,...): No such file or directory
I am not a technician and new to Macs too. I have tried almost everything in the supportfile about freeze issues. I am not able to start the Mac in safe mode. I have repaired the disk. I have tried reinstalling the software, but this fails too.
Did a couple of changes on the timecapsule before it happened (creating a network and new security settings and backup settings) and installed Photoshop Elements 9 and did a lot of file restructuring. Left the computer open and came back to a blue screen. Since then I have been unable to start.
My macbook works fine with the changes. I am stuck - what to try now?
I need my files and they are luckily on the timecapsule, but i am not able to open the imac-bundle file on the macbook, why?
Thanks for helping.

did a lot of file restructuring.
In Finder>Go>enter /usr/sbin do you see mDNSResponder listed there?
Try Repairing Permissions for the Volume in Disk Utility (Note: may take a long time in 10.5.8)

  • Z10 freezes during start up

My z10 freezes during start up. First I can see the red led on, then the BB logo and "blackberry" on the screen and it stays there forever.
I have tried to update the OS, using BB update software option, at which after resetting my Z10 the green led stays on, though I cannot update it, getting the error message "error downloading Blackberry Desktop Software".
Any ideas ? I need to recover information in the phone's internal memory.
    Thank you !!!

So I did the Disc Utility, and the disc was sucessfully repaired. I restarted the iMac and got to exactly the same place as before: "Login window started" where it froze again. I turned it of, restarted in Safe Mode and it froze at the same spot.
Is the next step to try reinstalling the OSX? I didn't see an option to install in place ie leave all my files intact. There's an "Archive and install" option. Does this just archive the system folder and erase all my other files. I'm pretty much backed up but I'd much prefer not to erase the files if I can avoid it.
    Thanks

  • Imac freezes during startup stops @ blue screen & have tried everything

My imac freezes during startup, it gets to blue screen and just sits. I have tried to boot from the Leopard 10.5 install disk, and just sits, can't get to log in screen. Have run the disk utility and it says disk appears to be ok, Won't startup up in safe boot, blue screen just sit. Have tried 'fsck' fix, just sits at blue screen. Have reset PRAM, I don't know want else to try. Disk utility & "fsck" says 'disk appears to be ok'. When exiting fsck, it will start the process then stops. Does anyone have any suggestions, I have not tried to reinstall 10.5 yet.
    Thanks in advance
    Paula

After reading resolutions TS1541 & other threads, I decided to try to archive & reinstall 10.5 from install disc. Well that made things worse, sometime during reinstall, system locked up, I looked at the log during install & it had been locked up about 3 hours and now I have nothing. no systems files, using Target( firewire cable) disc with my macbook, I can see I have previous system folder & a folder that say system. but Install disc does not see OS.
Do I need to take it to an apple store for repair or what. It's only 3 years old.
    please help

  • ITunes freezes during start up

I have an iMac bought last year.
    2.7 GHz Intel Core 1.5
    8GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    OS X Version 10.9.4
    iTunes 11.3
My iTunes starting freezing during start up about a month ago.  As soon as it begins to sync with my iPhone I get the beach ball and have to force quit.  I have tried reinstalling it, starting with WiFi off, and other hints from the forums with no success. Any ideas or help is very much appreciated.

I am having the same problem? I installed the iTunes update and it asked to restart the system... but it never came back up... just stays on the reboot page. How do I fix this?

  • Freezes during start up

My iMac 1.25GHz is freezing during start up. When I turn it on, I get the happy chime, the gray apple and cycling cog etc, it gets all the way to the text box that says "waiting for printing services" and then either the screen goes blue and the mouse arrow freezes or i get a dialog box saying I need to restart the computer. I've tried resetting the PRAM and PMU but no joy.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated,
    Thanks

  • MacBook Pro freezes during start up and safe boot

MacBook Pro freezes during start up and will not start in safe boot in recovery, it goes back to apple screen with spinning gear

    Stinkster,
does your MacBook Pro have a removable battery? If so, then it originally came with grey installation DVDs. If it doesn’t have a removable battery, look on the bottom of your MacBook Pro for its serial number (it’s etched there in tiny print). If its serial number has eleven characters, write down the last three of them; if it has twelve, write down the last four. Include the three or four characters in your reply; they can determine which model MacBook Pro you have, and the model will determine whether it originally came with grey installation DVDs or not.
If your MacBook Pro did originally come with grey installation DVDs, then you’re going to need to find them (or buy a replacement pair from Apple or iFixit) to reïnstall Mac OS X on your current hard drive, or to install it on a replacement hard drive.

  • IMac is freezing during start-up from OS X installation disk

My iMac 27" is freezing during re-installation of the complete machine from Leopard OS X installation disk. The machine ends up (also in safe mode) with a screen showing something like "horse steps in the snow" as shown in both pictures, which can be seen on:
    http://whbakker.demon.nl/screen and http://whbakker.demon.nl/detail
I cannot find a thread or a good suggestion, what to do to re-initialize the complete machine.
Thank you in advance for your answers!
    Willem.

Can we assume you mean your Snow Leopard installation disc & that it is a grey one that came with this iMac?
27" iMacs are new enough that they can't run Leopard (OS 10.5), nor can they run some of the earlier versions of Snow Leopard. The installer on the disc should check for this & refuse to attempt an install if it is the wrong one, but if you are trying to boot from the disc to start the install it will never get that far. This is because the earlier OS versions lack the necessary extensions to support the latest hardware in the iMac. Thus, a safe boot won't help since there is still no source for them.
Also, if you have installed any aftermarket memory modules, it is possible they are not fully up to spec & incapable of running Snow Leopard. You may be able to verify this by starting up from the Apple Hardware Test, which you run from the original grey system disc by following the instructions printed on it. If you get an error with "MEM" in it, it means one or more memory modules is defective. If they are aftermarket ones, contact the supplier for replacements. If they are Apple-supplied modules they are covered by a one year Apple warranty (or 3 year one if you bought the Applecare protection plan).

  • IMac 27" i5 Freezing during start up

    G'day all,
I have searched the forums and found similar problems but not quite the same as what I am having.
When I start up my iMac it gets to the gray screen with the apple and the rotating gear and then freezes.
I have unplugged all peripherals and tried to safe boot but it freezes during this as well.
I have tried the NVRAM / PRAM reset and it freezes in the same spot.
I am not a Mac person and do not understand most of the lingo on here so if anyone has an idea can they please help and explain carefully...
    Cheers

This has been happening to my iMac too. I am not sure how to have this fixed and I haven't found any answers here on this forum. What I do is shut it down using the swith at the back and switch it ba ck on after a few seconds. And it works ok after that. I'm just worried that this may cause serious problems in the future.

  • IMac freezes during TC backup

Since a few days my iMac (newest version running Mountain Lion) freezes during TC backups. Since TC is set to backup every hour my computer freezes every hour - the MAC wheel pops up and keeps spinning.
Once I abort the TC backup it takes about half a minute for iMac to become responsive again.
Is there a solution for this problem - of course besides turning off TC and TM.
    Thanks

The episode below started at 06.20.32 (it began when TC started backingup). I tried closing an application and launching Console - without success.
At 06.23.11 I tried stopping the backup and shutting down TC (I think it shows first at 06.23.15).
At 06.23.41 my iMac was responsive again.
The info below only covers 06.23.04 till 06.23.45 (it seems way too much data and I don't know what's useful and what isn't).
    Thanks

  • IMac freezes on start

Around a week ago my iMac, which is usually always on, would not wake from sleep (screen was black) and I had to hard reset it. However, it could not start up. After the apple logo appears on the grey screen and the tiny circle of dots flash to indicate that is loading, the 'dot circle' suddenly froze. The only option was again to hard reset it.
Since then, I have tried to restart it maybe 30-40 times and it is (almost) always the same symptom; relatively slow start (30 seconds or so) and then suddenly it freezes before coming to the login screen. Twice, the computer managed to start-up properly but shortly after the top part of the screen started to flimmer and the remainder went black and only a hard reset could get it out of its misery. But this has not happened since; now it just stalls during the grey screen start-up.
The iMac is a 24" from early 2008 (model EMM 2134) with 2,8GHZ and 4GB ram (apple supplied). About two years ago the hard drive failed and I had to replace it with a new one but this is the only modification I have applied. It runs OSX 10.9
To resolve the issue, I have been through various error checks that have not helped
    - No visible or audible defects that I can discern
    - The power supply inside the iMac does not seem to be broken (I opened and checked)
    - Removing the two 2GB rams blocks one at a time does not change start-up behavior
    - Booting from USB recovery or from an install DVD in the optical drive using either the C or D key during start-up does not help
    - Starting in SAFE mode and enabling logging showed an SMCreadkeyaction ERROR
    - Tried resetting the NVRAM (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379) and the SMC (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964.).
    - Apple Disk Utility test and recovery (via another mac in firewire mode) turned up no fautls.
    - Formatted HD and installed OSX 10.5 on the HD (via firewire on onther mac). Still no change.
I am a bit at a loss what could cause this problem; it does not seem to be harddisk related (though this cannot be ruled out), it does not seem to be the graphic card despite the occasional flimmer as most of the time, the screen looks just fine (including the firewire icon dancing around when I had in T mode); and if it had been the power supply would it not have had visible marks of burning or bulking condensators?
Qualified suggestions as to what might be wrong or how to keep testing would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Dan

An Apple repair station visit is in order.

  • Freezes during "starting windows" message even after factory reset.

I've gone through diagnostic tests and they've shown it wasn't a hardware error. After a failed update to windows 10 my computer rolled back to windows 7. After the rollback when attempting to boot win 7 It froze and hung on the starting windows screen.  At first i was able to boot in safe mode and navigate the desktop and drivers, but after plenty of failed fixes i had to result to a factory reset with alienrespawn. After the factory reset the issue still persists, and i can no longer boot up in safe mode. When i do, it tries to do first time installation and says that i has to reboot in normal mode to complete first time config. My computer didn't come with a disk so i can't re-install windows 7, and factory reset dosen't seem to fix the issue. All I need is to resolve this issue so i can get back with a clean slate to upgrade to windows 10. Any ideas?

  • Freeze during start: Black screen with cursor

I have an L305-5955, probably infected by a virus (?) which freeze during booting (also with a backup CD) ending with a black screen and the cursor. Someone has an idea how to solve this? Thank's a lot for any help.

Choose Startup Repair from the System Recovery Options menu.
If that doesn't do the trick, go back to the System Recovery Options menu and do a System Restore.
If that doesn't fix things either, go back to the System Recovery Options menu and follow the directions here,
How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair start...

  • Can I update OS X if my 2011 GPU failing Macbook usually freezes during start up?

I have 2011 Macbook Pro (one of those that usually freezes during booting due to GPU failure). My Macbook will only boot if the GPU doesn't kick in during the start up. (When I'm very lucky the computer will get to the desktop and I can disable the GPU with gfxCardStatus). Sometimes I can boot the machine if I wrap it in a blanket to overheat it. Then it won't activate the GPU during booting if I'm lucky.
This is my question: Can I update my OS X if I maybe have to reboot a frozen machine 50 times before I reach the desktop? This would very probably mean that the OS would install and then ask for a reboot. And then I would maybe have to power off and retry to reboot many many times. Would this FUBAR the system. or would it work when I finally got it up and running?
I guess the REAL question is: Is the update installed 100% BEFORE the reboot, or are some of the updates installed AFTER the reboot? If that is the case, I would think it would have an effect if I had to power down the machine 50 times to get that one "lucky" reboot?

Thank you for replying! Is there any way to confirm this?

  • 17" Powerbook freezes during start up

I have a 17" G4 powerbook and it freezes up during start up on the grey aapple screen the little wheel stops spinnig and the computer is frozen, HELP [email protected]

After you disconnect any peripherals, can you do a safe start where you hold down the shift key when you reboot? That doesn't load any login items and does some disk maintenance. If that works, try a normal reboot to see if the disk maintenance did something.

  • IMac freezes during download of a podcast or import of a CD with iTunes

Downloading a podcast or the import of a CD makes my iMac freeze quite often, at least occasionally. Sometimes iMac freezes just playing a song. I have got MacOS 10.6.8 and the latest iTunes version. I'm afraid there is a corrupted song somewhere. How can I find it?

This problem has been driving me crazy for some time. It happens when any of my podcasts finish downloading while I am watching another video podcast. The video podcast I am currently watching pauses for usually at least 30 seconds but progresses without the playback. I am running iTunes on my Macbook Pro with 2GB ram. I assumed for the longest time it was the 5400 rpm drive but I'm not sure. I hope someone has a helpful hint! TIA, Brian
