Imac freezes while it is sleeping....what could it be?

My imac will not wake from its sleep quite frequently. What is the cause of this
Thanks

Very interesting. Tests (Tech Tool) also does not show anything all passed.
However, I now found that simply putting the computer to sleep from the menu shows the same symptoms. The indicator light blinks as usual but the screen does not wake up. Upon hard restart - this is what it says on console -system log:

  • 27' imac is slow to navigate and download from the net, and the computer freezes while on the net, what could be causing this issue?

    can anybody answer this question

    Johnso,
Please complete your profile so we at least know a little more about your system, Apple has made quite a few 27" iMac models using different versions of OS X so it would be helpful to us if we knew the model you had and the version of OS X installed.
PLEASE complete your profile, you can find it under Your Stuff and Profile in the upper right of this page.

  • My ipad frequently says "I am not connected to internet" although it is and there is a good signal. after a while it connects regularly. what could be the problem?

my ipad frequently says "I am not connected to internet" although it is and there is a good signal. after a while it connects regularly. what could be the problem?

You can try these things and see if it helps.
Tap Settings, then tap Safari on the left side. Then on the right side - tap clear history, clear cookies, clear cache. Clear all three. Reboot your iPad. Hold down on the sleep button at the top until the red slider appears and slide to power off. Then hold down on the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and the iPad will restart. Launch Safari and see if helped.
If that doesn't help, try this. Tap Settings, then tap General on the left side, then scroll down on the right side and tap Reset, then tap Reset Network Settings at the top. Reboot your iPad as described above. Launch Safari and log on to the Internet. You may have to enter your network password again when you reset Network Settings.
Renew the Lease in WiFi by going to Settings>WiFi>Network Name>Renew Lease. Reboot your iPad and try Safari again.

  • My iMac freezes while using safari.  I have Mavericks installed

Several times my iMac freezes while using Safari. Only way to get out is to do a hard shut-down by holding the start button.  Any ideas?  Version of Maveriks is 10.9.2

  • IMac freezes while Time Machine updates the back up. What to do?

Ever since I upgraded to Lion my iMac freezes or nearly freezes for 5 - 10 minutes every hour while Time Machine updates the back up. What to do?
I have tried everything I can think of but its only improved from total freeze while Time Machine backs up to freeze with an occasional few seconds of activity.
I am really fed up with this.

When I first updated to Lion everything was a mess with freezes happenng constantly like every two or three minutes.  Then when looking at the app store I noticed in purchased items that Lion was showing install instead of installed so I downloaded and installed again.
After this install every time Time Machine updated a backup my iMac froze for about 5 or 10 minutes while the backing up was in progress.  I was getting really fed up and started this thread.  Then one morning I got up and the iMac would not start up.  It just sat there with the progress thingy spinning.  I started in T mode to look at it from my MacBookPro and two copies of the HD appeared. Both showing zero files.  I ran Disk utility on the MacBookPro to try to fix the disk.  It showed 8 copies of the disk and all not reparable.
I then created a startup USB drive using my MacBookPro, used it to start up the iMac and restored everything from the previous day's backup.  Since then it has been running smoothly with no freezes so maybe the answer is simply to restore a recent backup.
I am using Imation external drives and I don't believe the problem is drive specific.

  • LR5 hangs (beach ball) & iMac freezes while importing RAWs

    Hi,
I'm running OSX 10.8.4 with LR5.0 and CamRAW 8.1 installed. My LR Catalog is on local Disk but the corresponding images are on a mounted NAS filer.
I need to import (copy) a large amount of RAWs, but LR hangs unperiodically durring import. While trying to kill LR (or reboot) my iMac freezes such, that I need to power off!
    Is anyone expierencing similar?
    THX!

    Hi,
I'm still expierencing this issue! Is this the right place to inform Adobe about serious issues of a professional product, which needs to be fixed?
    - It looks like that LR can't tolerate/handle the additional I/O latency of the image repository on slower disks (NAS), while the catalog resides on fast ones (SSD).
    - And an OSX update won't help either: LR5 - Import hangs up

  • Help: iMac freeze while watching video

    Hello,
Since Lion I sometimes have a serious freeze while watching videos.
It does not occur very often, it happens every month or so.
After upgrade to Mountain Lion I thought it would not happen anymore but this problem still persists.
Since Lion I had freezes while watching video on Youtube, with MplayerX, QuickTimePlayer, VLC and so on.
All freezes occured only in Fullscreen mode.
When my iMac is stuck the Display shows the current Video frame and plays a small fraction of the current audio in a loop.
The Keyboard and Mouse is unresponsive.
At this point the only option for me is to force a restart.
Does someone know a solution for this?
    LightReaper
    My specification:
    iMac 24 inch (early 2009)
3,06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8GB 1067Mhz DDR3
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 512MB
    OSX 10.8

First do what whyisitsohard (HUH?) suggests. If that does not resolve the issue take a look at how much free space is available on your Hard drive. I would not recommend running Mac OS X with less than 10% free space remaining on your startup volume. The free space is used for hidden swap files that Mac OS X needs do to virtual memory, and for other temporary files used by the system. Once free space gets low, the remaining free space becomes more and more fragmented into small pieces. That makes it hard for Mac OS X to operate efficiently. This issue is most apparent when watching videos.

  • IMac Freezes while using itunes

Hi this is the second time my new iMac freezes when i'm browsing the iTunes store.
all of the sudden the mac stops responding, what should I do to prevent this in the future?

I just got my first Apple iMac and I am loving it. I have used PC's for years and I am a little rusty on my Mac skills. When I was browsing through iTunes...looking at the Movies my computer also froze. I am not even able to do a force quit. It makes me really nervous just turn off my computer. So when you get an answer please let me know. I feel really silly calling tech support for something this silly.

  • IPhone uploaded 12 gigs over wifi in 5 hours while not in use, what could be doing it?

The other day I saw that I was over quota on the wireless network on campus, so I went looking for the reason.  Since I work for the tech department at the school, I loaded up my history... apparently my iphone uploaded 12 gigs in 5 hours, while it was just sitting at my desk unused!
What kind of crazy app uploads that much?
When I'm not using the iphone and leave the phone on my desk on wifi it seems to upload a lot.  Last week apparently 4 gigs in 1.5 hours and now 12 gigs in 5 hours, insane!
I cannot for the life of me imagine what could require that kind of upload.
And completely offball also... 4 gigs DOWN during those same 5 hours!!!  I wasn't on youtube, I wasn't on itunes, I wasn't on the app store... the phone was just sitting there.
It seems rather insane to me.   Anyone have a similar experience or have any clue why this might be happening?
    (iOS 4.3.3, iPhone 4)
Oh, and tethering/personal hotstop was turned off.

Have you tried downloading some data tracking apps on the iphone itself?
I installed 3 different ones, two of which track while running on the iphone.  All three reported under 100 megs wifi usage while the university network yet again reported gigs up and down in under 2 hours (12 gigs down, 8 gigs up).  I've contacted them and they're looking into it because the discrepancy is insane.
Maybe you should try tracking with both the router and on the iphone itself.
What I find amusing is that my phone doesn't even use 1 gig a month on 3G (and I use my phone a lot).  Also my home wifi usage is nothing like that reported by my university... if I did 12 gigs per day at home, I'd be using our cable bandwidth cap all by my lonesome... which doesn't happen.
I'm starting to think the iPhone in 4.3.X does some weird stuff that makes some monitoring tools to mis-report data usage.

  • IMac Freezes While Sleeping

    Hello all:
I am having a problem with my iMac G5 freezing shortly after I put it to sleep. I recently moved and had to switch from Surewest DSL to AT&T DSL and this is when the problem began. If I disconnect the DSL cable before I put the computer to sleep then it doesn't freeze, but if I leave the cable connected it freezes, the power light stops pulsing, and the fans on the computer start spinning at full speed. The only way to stop it is to shut it down by holding the power button. I have a 2Wire gateway modem. Any ideas?
    Thank you

"I recently moved and had to switch from Surewest DSL to AT&T DSL and this is when the problem began."
Have you contacted and/or discussed your issue(s) with AT&T Mac tech support (Tier 2 or 3)?

  • IMac freezes while running Adrium

    Hello,
I've bought my iMac 27inch i5 at the end of 2009. Right now I experience the issue as if I'm running Adrium on my Mac the HDD goes wild and most of my programs stop running and I only get the spinning rainbow
At the moment I turn of Adrium, everything goes smoothly for a while. I've already used the diagnostic for HDD and it says that there shouldn't be a problem.
I will make some more test, as stressing the HDD, but I would like to know if anyone else has an idea what my problem could be.
    kind regards,
    teddyofapril

Now I've got some update on my problem.
Today I didn't run Adrium a single time. But while running iWeb'09 I got the same problem. I've started to monitor my HDD via iStat Menubar. The activity bar shows, that my HDD stops working and won't be read or written. After a few seconds 10 to 60 the HDD shows activity again and I can work for some time.
Programs like Safari, Preview or Skype won't cause this problem.
    Anyone an idea?

  • IMac Freezes While Playing Games

When playing games (BioShock Infinite, Starcraft, Civ 5) my iMac will suddenly completely freeze: no mouse movement, no keyboard responses, nothing.  Occassionally the audio will stutter and repeat over and over again for a second or two before stopping. The only way to do anything is to turn off the computer and turn it back on.
It seems to happen at random times, but only when playing these games, which makes me think it may have to do with the video card.
If anyone has any ideas, I would love some help!
    —Michael

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "Model Identifier." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • My imac freezes while on Safari.

The color wheel turns, force quit does not respond, the clock even stops.  I've left it like that overnight and when I awake it the next day the color wheel is still turning.  I have to shut it down with the power button and after I restart, then go open Safari, I get thin (one pixel?) horizontal lines almost totally across the screen, at random areas, when I scroll.
It will also randomly freeze when minimizing a window or working in iPhoto.
Mac OS 10.5.8 2.16 Intel Core 2 Duo 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 memory & NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT  Software updates are current.

I have the same issue with Safari. Most of the time while scrolling. It has caused countless files which happened to be open at the time of the freeze to be damaged. I took my imac in to Apple and they found nothing wrong. Said it was a software issue.
I have this freeze/hard boot to happen sometimes 4 times per day. I have to close all files when I need to use Safari or any web browser to avoid having them damaged when it inevitably freezes.

  • IMac freeze while installing OS upgrade

I have a G5 iMac currently on OS X 10.5.5, I`m trying to upgrade to 10.5.8 via software update, when the installation begins the computer just freezes... the window displays "configuring installation" and the status bar advances a bit and then just stays there. I have more than enough disk space for the installation. Any advice will be appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Run Repair Disk
    1. Insert your Mac OS X Install DVD, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair.
If you repair errors run it until no errors found.
The download and run 10.5.8 Combo Update
    -mj
