IMac freezing up very easily
My iMac has been freezing up very easily with only a few applications running. When it first occurred it was nearly unusable. If the computer froze up when using it and I shut it down it then would take a very long time to start up (once taking nearly 40 minutes) if it would even start up at all. However if I left it off for several hours after a crash it started up much quicker (1-2 minutes). After running Disk Utility, deleting preference files, and following all the steps for fixing my computer it still ran very slow. I then took it to the Apple store and had them check it out. The guy said it wasn't showing up as a hardware problem of any sort and suggested I archive install and if that didn't work erase install.
So I took it home and archive installed (didn't work) then I erase installed and it seemed to be working much better, and I thought it may be fixed. However, this appears to have been fool's hope, as when I got back down to school (nowhere near an Apple store) the computer continued to freeze up with small tasks that it used to handle easily. The first time I noticed was Photoshop would run fine for awhile then all of the sudden would lag and give me a color wheel. If I let it sit for a little while it would catch up, but run slow after that.
Yesterday as I had my computer on for a longer period of time, it began to transfer files to a USB drive extremely slow, and as I tried to import video to iMovie it would lock up (although I was able to import, edit, and export fairly well with Premiere Pro). I then tried to burn a DVD with iDVD and it ran a bit laggy and then ran extremely slow on the exporting video step of the burn process, but the actual burning process only took a short time.
Today I had a Word document open, 2 tabs in Firefox, and was transferring purchases from my iPhone to my computer via iTunes. While the transfer process was running I clicked to bookmark a page in Firefox and this simple task locked my computer up for a solid 3 minutes before I was able to even bring up the Force Quit menu and close out of some of the projects. Leaving it sit to catch up it seemed to make it catch up, but trying to play a song on iTunes with only iTunes and Firefox open caused the color wheel to pop up and freeze for about 20 seconds, then the song would play for about 6 seconds and cut out for 10 seconds then come back in for another 6 before eventually freezing back up.
Anyone have any suggestions on what this problem could be, or hopefully a possible fix?

Also, boot from your Mac install disc. Run Disk Utility to Verify and if necessary, repair the startup disk.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
*(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)*
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space*
If you cannot boot from your install disc, try booting in Safe Mode

Since I installed IOS 8.0.2 (was ok on IOS7),on my iPad 4 "photos" don't scroll properly, it freezes and staggers, it's really slow to scroll to the bottom of the page (in Album, Events From My IMac) it's very annoying!
I'm not sure, but I know it's not recommended to upgrade to iOS 8 on anything older than an iPhone 5. I only lost my music playlists and music that was on my phone, but that music is also on my iTunes, not the playlists though, and I don't want to go through ALL my iTunes library to fix it either... But it seems I don't have a choice right now.
Whatever you do, do NOT upgrade to iCloud Drive, keep iCloud till OS X Yosemite comes out, if your computer is a Mac. I also just noticed that all my documents on my phone are gone from Pages, BUT if I go on the iCloud website they are still there. Hopefully it will all work itself out when I can update my macbook pro to OS X Yosemite.
If you backed up your phone and all your purchases off your iPhone prior to trying to upgrade you should be fine... But I'm not even remotely sure. -
IMac Freezing - No video glitch, but unresponsive
Good morning all,
In the past week or so, I've started to have problems with my iMac freezing. This has occurred while using iChat, playing World of Warcraft and while using Safari (not all at once).
In short, the video display seems to freeze. I can still hear audio (ie. the other person on iChat speaking), but everything else in non-responsive. The keyboard does not respond and I cannot ALT-Tab or open any other programs. My only recourse is to manually turn off the computer and try again.
It's usually a guaranteed failure when opening up Warcraft. About 4 seconds after the program has opened, the computer freezes.
I've searched the forums and have come across several threads that involve some sort of graphical glitch, from which I do not suffer. That being said, I thought a new thread might be appropriate.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have vacuumed the air vents, installed smcFan Control (great to manual adjust fan speeds on all 3 internal fans), re-installed Snow Leopard & gone through copious hours as all the software updates each time I've re-installed, and I run the disc doctor program. It started happening around the time Steve Jobs said Apple would no longer use Flash. I thought it a Flash issue since it only has to do with the playback of video. Today I discovered that clips I downloaded yesterday were also freezing in my desktop Picasa. Meaning it's not Final Cut, or Picasa, and unlikely my video card as all videos streamed from the NET (on YouTube, etc) play fine, and in fact my videos that freeze on my iMac when uploaded to YouTube or Facebook play fine.
I am enormously and thoroughly frustrated, as you can imagine. I had 15 clips from the G20 Protest March yesterday and was not able to make an adequate video to upload out of them because the video keeps freezing, and losing synch with the audio - and every time you try to play it, it freezes in a different spot!!
Horrendous problem.
Today, then, following advice in this thread, I will try re-installing back an update or so on OSX - I'm using 10.6.4, and perhaps need to go backwards?
This is an awful problem and I am surprised Apple hasn't addressed it. Perhaps it only relates to computers a few years old?

My iMac freezes when using Firefox
My iMac freezes when using Firefox. We have to restart our computer.
TutorDaddy, if this Mac is still covered by the initial warranty or under AppleCare, take it in and have it looked at. As the old label used to say, there truly are "no user serviceable parts inside." Kernel panics very usually indicate failing hardware.
I have an older iBook G4 that started developing kernel panics and like you, despite reinstalling the OS from a freshly formatted volume, they kept continuing. I looked at the crash log and saw that in each instance of panic, the last bit of code to be accessed had something to do with AirPort. Knowing that the AirPort software was at then current levels, I surmised the problem to be a bad AirPort networking card which, on that particular model of the iBook, was a very small module attached directly to the logic board. Since the computer was out of AppleCare, I broke the machine down myself (I didn't realize that there could be so many barely visible screws in one machine) and removed the offending piece of hardware. My iBook lives but without WiFi, it now sits as a more or less desktop machine needing an ethernet connection to stay connected to a network.
I do not suggest you break into your iMac. First of all, I'm guessing one would need to be able to pull off the glass and have the necessary glue to reattach it, which is not really available to us consumers. If you're feeling adventurous enough to read the crash logs from each panic, you might be able to surmise the hardware component (or badly written application or library; it can happen) that's causing the panic. If it's a software issue, remove the offending software app and see if the panics return. If it's a hardware issue, it's best to let a competent service tech qualified on Apple hardware to handle it.

Hi, I would love advice on how to resolve this problem: My 2009 iMac freezes after 30-45 minutes of internet browser usage. (Regardless of browser type)
It will usually start with a full freeze, and then after 5 minutes the mouse cursor will move but clicking anywhere won't work and one can't tab out of the browser. When you post the log extract or the crash report, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." IMac Freezes, Anyone Know How to Unfreeze?
I don't know about anyone else but I am getting really f'ing tired of my brand new iMac freezing up after installing Lion. I know good and well that Apple knows about this but nothing from them at all. Anyway, enough of my ********.
Does anyone know how to unfreeze it without cycling power? For the record, Snow Leopard never did this. Is Lion going to become the Apple version of Vista? C'mon Apple, fix this already. You sure can tell Steve is on sick leave.
Initially get spinning wheel
Them mouse moves cursor freely but can't click on anything. Can't force quit from tHe dock as it doesn't pull up. Only thing I have found to do is a a reboot. Very freaking Windows like.Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

IMac Freezing Issue -Need Confirmation...
Hey all,
I need confirmation on whether or not zapping the PRAM seems to stop the iMac freezing issue. I have had 3 freezes within 10 minutes. I restarted after my last preparation to installing Leopard and the screen saver kicked in, which is the 'Cosmos' slide show and the graphics froze up. Screen went black and I left it for a couple of minutes. I came back to it, and had an image on the screen, but it was still locked up. So I restarted it. After boot up, I opened Activity monitor, and locked up again.
So I zapped the PRAM on this 3rd restart and have not locked up since. I'd bet 100 to 1 that if I were to restart, without the PRAM reset, I would crash within 5 minutes of the start up.
I really believe without a doubt these iMac reboot issues are related to specific EFI versions failing to initialize graphics correctly.
Can anyone confirm this? If your iMac crashes, does Zapping the PRAM fix it?
I'll be calling Executive relations contact and telling her the bad news.
Okay, so first off, this isn't a solution to this iMac plague, but it should prevent the freezing and NO, it does not have to do with removing the ATI drivers.
I was asked to install Leopard by Executive relations at Apple and told her that, as soon as I do, my iMac will freeze. So, I have been preparing the Leopard install and have crashed 3 times, in a row... at that point I said, Leopard is going to be a no go but I needed to use my iMac without it crashing. So, zapped the PRAM like I did before and immediately the graphic freezes went away.
SoHere is my experience, iMac 24:
I bought in JR NY 2 weeks ago. I had to use it without internet connection (so no updates) and no freezes.
Then I connected to internet and installed the available updates and start to get the freezes, even trying the PRAM reset.
I tried to remove the extra memory, change memory slot but no lucky, video artifacts (like pixels not refreshing) when moving the mouse over the dock icons then freeze.
I had no other softwares installed at all, only the OS applications.
I formatted the HD and reinstalled the Tiger and didn't accepted any update, so I could use the imac for 2 days without a single freeze, but some black screens when screen saver starts.
Since no freezes, I decided to update the OS again and after the first boot the freezes came back very fast, I could start a freeze in about 10 seconds.
I tried the PRAM reset without sucess and my machine was ready to go to a tech person.
Yesterday I updated the OS to 10.4.11 and did a PRAM reset after the update and tested the machine for 2 hours without a freeze or video artifacts, looks very stable, but I have to test it more.
You guys tried the Tiger last update ?

IMac freezing but I can move cursor and music continues playing
Hi all, I am having trouble with my iMac freezing. It has done it three times in the last five days. Today, I had Safari and Pages open and was listening to iTunes in the background. I left the room for a couple of minutes and came back, the music was still playing, the clock was frozen, I could move my mouse but could not click on anything.
Yesterday, the same thing happened, I ran disk utility and cleared off some old third party apps that I wasn't using. I noticed improved speed in my browsing and the loading of apps and thought the problem was solved. Now that it has hapened today I am perplexed. Activity monitor doesn't show anythig out of whack. I saved some info from the activity log:

The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

IMac freezing on Safari, Mail, itunes after sleeping
I've had a problem for the past 4 days with my iMac freezing mainly when on Safari, Mail, iTunes...
It happens most times after it sleeps, then I can't quite and have to force quite, then it won't restart or shut down
I have to force shut down... It will then reboot ok and work ok for so long then goes again mainly after sleeping.
When for example Safari fails, Firefox still works fine?!
I've gone into the disk utility and verified the permissions and checked the drive. all ok!
and I've reset the RAM and totally unplugged the iMac.
I've read on some post advising not to reinstall and it's a software issue and should wait for the next update?
Is anybody having the same problem?

iMac Freezer...
I have a iMac Intel Duo 2 ghz - 20". Purchased in summer of 2006. It sure is nice, but it's unreliable.
Freezes.
iTunes stalls and skips like a old record - frozen ( and annoying ).
iMovie just quits on me. The multi-lingual screen of death occurs when I try to take some time-lapse with iMove and iSight.
I thought maybe I needed more RAM than the 512MB for better performance with iMovie so I got a 1GB stick for a total of 1.5GB.
Things haven't been better. I've been religious about permissions. The Apple Hardware Test has passed. I'm running the latest OS 10.4.8.
It's becoming very annoying when you can't depend on your computer. Loosing trust is not a good thing.
I'm considering reinstalling ( without Bootcamp and Windows ) and testing it. Though the amount of time that will take is something I would like to avoid.
These are iApps... I shouldn't be experiencing problems with them - I could understand some Rosetta / PPC app problems, but iLife?
What do you think I should do?Macs are easy to care for, but they do have regular maintenance needs.

IMac freezing up while using Safari
My iMac freezes up sometimes while using Safari and even trying to force quit doesn't help because the computer is totally frozen up.
I have left my Activity Monitor open and when it froze again today I was able to see that the system memory seems to be the problem area.
I see the following under System Memory:
Free almost nothing (here's the problem)
Wired 1.09 Gb
Active 2 Gb
Inactive 3.9 Gb
Why is the ratio between Free and Inactive memory so high?
When the computer eventually unfreezes the Free memory returns to about 4 GB, seems where it should be.
Wondering what could be using the Free memory ?You have a lot of issues.

To remove the Codec-M spyware, first back up all data, then select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. For any extension with a name you don't recognize, select it and click Uninstall. If in doubt, delete all extensions.
If you use Firefox or Chrome, take the corresponding steps in those browsers. You might have to delete Chrome completely and reinstall it from a fresh download.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.codecm.uploader.plist
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. A folder may open with a file selected. Delete the selected file. Then do the same with this line:
~/Library/Application Support/Codec-M
Finally, this:
/Applications/Codec-M.app
This time you may be prompted for your administrator password.
Log out and log back in.

Remove "MacKeeper" as follows.
"MacKeeper" is a scam with only one useful feature: it deletes itself.
Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.
If you have incompletely removed MacKeeper—for example, by dragging the application to the Trash and emptying—then you'll have to reinstall it and start over.
IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your login password. Click the Uninstall MacKeeper button in the dialog that appears. All the functional components of the software will be deleted. Reboot.
☞ Quit MacKeeper before dragging it to the Trash.
☞ Don't empty the Trash. Let MacKeeper delete itself.
☞ Don't try to drag the MacKeeper Dock icon to the Trash.

Remove "Rapport" by following the instructions on this page.

Remove "Eltima Player," which is garbage.
Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and (unless otherwise specified in this comment) I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
WARNING: Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software.

If your ISP is not StarHub Cable Vision in Singapore, you need to change your network settings. Ask for instructions.
F.
Some of your user files (not system files) have incorrect permissions or are locked. This procedure will unlock all your user files, reset their ownership, and remove their access-control lists. If you've set special values for those attributes, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):
{ sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select
▹ Restart
from the menu bar.

TS4135 Imac freezes but mouse still work.
My Imac freezes everytime I try to load an app. Rather its a webpage on safari, playing videos on sites, iTunes, photobooth etc. I can't even load the applications folder without it freezing on me. The dock & keyboard shortcuts are frozen too. The only thing that moves is the mouse cursor, but its no good if I can't open or close anything. I wiped out my Imac to factory settings, thinking it would clear ram/men space and that didn't help. Sigh. I need help. What can I do? What should I do? Is this a firmware or system update problem? Help me please!
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it:

Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
Step 3

Brand new iMac freezes constantly! Updates aren't helping!
Hello everyone,
This past Sunday I bought a brand new iMac intel Core 2 Duo with a 250 GB HDD and 1 GB of RAM. At home I set it up with my SAMSUNG 1080p 22" monitor, Apple bluetooth Keyboard and mightymouse, and a Western Digital 350 GB HDD hooked up via USB. I was excited to finally jump on the intel-based Mac bandwagon, as well as experience dual monitors for the first time.
That was Sunday. Tuesday evening I was watching "Rome" on itunes on my Samsung monitor while surfing the web with Omniweb on the iMac monitor. All of sudden, everything locked up. I was able to move my cursor, but nothing responeded to my clicking. I hard booted the system and loaded everything I had going again, and sure enough, it locked up a few moments later. I ran system update, updated everything, then restarted. Time went by and although not immediatly, later that night it froze up on me again.
Fast forward to last nite, and the freezing reached and all time high. 5 times. Each time was when I had a browser open in my iMac window and I had Quicktime playing in my Samsung monitor. I was watching a sports program, with the player fit to the screen.
I have read many posts about intel iMacs freezing late last year, but there was a firmware update that evidently fixed that. I have this update installed, and I have had no luck. I have even contacted Apple Care via phone where I got instructed to unplug everything, plug it back in, start in safe mode, and delete cache. That didn't help me out at all. Am I right insuspecting I have a faulty Video card? I just ordered 4GB of RAM, could this be a RAM issue?When diagnostics are run on a freezing computer and nothing shows, I'll put the program into a testing loop because this means one of two things: the issue is heat related so running the diagnostics several more times will bring on the heat so that the issue shows up or the installed RAM is marginal, just flaky enough to show up now and again but not so far off that a run through of the memory test catches it on the first run.
As I said in my original post, memory is always a suspect in a freezing or kernel panicking computer. And it does tend to top my list. But from what you describe I'm not quite willing to say, "Why don't you just wait until the RAM upgrade arrives?" -
Imac freezes during start-up. Seems to be caused by Airport issue.
My Imac freezes during startup. I have tried starting it in safe mode without any luck. I am not a technician and new to Macs too. I have tried almost everything in the supportfile about freeze issues. I am not able to start the Mac in safe mode. I have repaired the disk. I have tried reinstalling the software, but this fails too.
Did a couple of changes on the timecapsule before it happened (creating a network and new security settings and backup settings) and installed Photoshop Elements 9 and did a lot of file restructuring. Left the computer open and came back to a blue screen. Since then I have been unable to start.
My macbook works fine with the changes. I am stuck - what to try now?
I need my files and they are luckily on the timecapsule, but i am not able to open the imac-bundle file on the macbook, why?
