IMAC freezing when IPOD connected

When I connect my shuffle to my IMAC to download songs or recharge, it doesn't sync and, in fact, freezes my IMAC. I have to shut the computer down to make it right. Unable to download any tunes to IPOD. Help please...!

alright one thing you should do is be patient. Give the shuffle at least 10min while its connected. With the new version of itunes out people have had this happen. If this does not work try re-downloading the latest version of itunes. Also restart your ipod. Give it a shot. hope all goes well.

  • ITunes 7.0.1.8 totally freezes when iPod connected

I installed iTunes 7.0.1.8 a few days ago, and today I'm having huge problems with it. Just yesterday I managed to upload a large set of videos to my iPod, and today, if I run iTunes without my iPod connected, I have no problems. However, when I plug my iPod in, it runs until it recognizes the iPod and displays the menu for it, and at that moment, the program entirely freezes. I can't push any buttons. It doesn't even manage to update the screen if I alt-tab between it and another window. And it uses 70% or more of my processor while not actually seeming to do anything.
I tried restarting my computer and my iPod. No good. The iPod is a 60 GB iPod video, and I have it set for manual management.

As it turns out, mine just needed about ten minutes to sit there and think after I plugged the iPod in. Maybe yours is the same way. It's not acceptable, but you can get to your iPod if you have the patience.
I've also noticed that it feels the need to reanalyze the gapless playback information for all my songs after the first time I add something to the iPod after I plug it in. I think it might have been doing that when I first plugged it in also, and just wasn't updating the screen.

  • ITunes freezes when iPod connected

I have Windows XP and iTunes version 11.0.1. Since I've updated iTunes I haven't tried to sync my iPod touch 4th generation. When I connected my iPod my iTunes freezes and I can't click on anything. Once I disconnect the iPod then iTunes works fine. What should I do? Thanks.

I've had similiar problems when it comes to freezing. What I did was simply wait. I loaded my iPod and the mouse pointer showed the hourglass for a few minutes, then the iPod simply showed up on iTunes. Try rebooting your system, connecting iPod, and giving it a few minutes.

  • Windows Freezes when ipod connected

I am having a small problem with itunes on windows xp home edition. On my laptop my 60G ipod photo works fine, when i plug it into my wifes laptop which has just had itunes installed as she has just got herself an ipod nano widows freezes until you unplug it again, her ipod is fine on both her pc and my pc and both my daughters are fine on both pcs, its just mine on hers? is there any cure or known problems that i should be aware of? Many thanks for any help you can give.
    Simon

Usually theres no need for this, cuz when you uninstall iTUnes it does not erase the iTUnes Library, nor any music on the PC.
That said its always a GREAT idea to back up your music regularly. Apple covers this on there site by using iTUnes to burn backups on CD, but it doesn't include backup of the all important iTunes Library file that contains all the playlist rating playcount Ect ect here it is tho http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93033
Long as you have all your music in one folder like "My Music" you can just copy it to an external Harddrive. that will backup all the music AND all the iTUnes librarys and crap since its in the "My Music" folder by default

  • Mouse freezes when IPOD connects via USB

    Hello,
I recently purchased a 30GB Video IPod, however I haven't been able to put any music on It as the mouse (which is also USB like the keyboard)locks out.
I've tried switching which ports are used by the keyboard and mouse, and I've got the keyboard sorted. So it is just the mouse now. I've uninstalled and downloaded the new version of ITunes and IPod updater too.
Any clues to the solution fromanyone who's experienced the same. It's rather annoying. Hope you can help,
    All the best,
    Mark

I am having the same issue as well. My mouse is plugged into my keyboard, which is plugged into my apple monitor. I try to plug my ipod into the front of my G5 and the mouse and keyboard goes dead. Tried plugging things into different ports... no luck...

  • Itunes 11.4 freezing when ipod touch 5 connected to windows 7 64bit

Every time the iPod touch 5th generation is connected to ITunes in Windows 7 64 bit, the stupid iTunes freezes. The only way to unfreeze is to disconnect it. This problem has been going for a very long time. Upgrading iTunes does nothing. ITunes 11.4 does not fix the problem. There is no way to sync iPod touch with windows 7. This getting very frustrating. When is someone going to post a fix that permanently fixes this problem that has existed for a long time. Anyone got a brain that works?
A few months ago someone posted a fix that required to disable a windows update that work for a while. Now iTunes is back to its old freezing behaviors. Fix it Apple now!..

This is a useless reply. It does not work. Uninstalling and reinstalling does nothing to fix it.  Itunes always freezes when Ipod is connected. This is a problem with Windows 7 64bit and is very common problem. Itunes doesn't want to cooperate with 64bit windows. If you search the internet, lots are having the same problem. This problem has existed for 10 years. Every new version of itunes never fixes the problem. Why can't Apple and Microsoft work together to fix the issue. This is unacceptable. Apple software designers are very lazy and stupid.

  • My itunes freezes when I connect my ipod....help!!

I have installed the new update (Windows 8 64 bit)  & my itunes freezes when I connect my ipod.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • ITunes is freezing when I connect my iPod mini for syncing.

I am having problems with iTunes when I am connecting my Ipod to my computer, then Itunes freezes and want even force quit. I am running my Itunes library on an external hard drive, and when I moved the files over on my computer and disconnected the ext. hard drive, it worked. So the problem is being caused by Leopard, since this problem started after my upgrade from 10.4. I am running it all on a Mac Mini. I did an upgrade to Leopard at my sisters house and the same problem happened there as well, so now I can not sync any of my iPods running the library on an ext. hard drive, so I am thinking of going back to 10.4. Can not have all my music files on the Mac mini, because the internal hard disc is to small for all my music.

Try the suggestions here > iTunes Freezes when ipod is connected: Apple Support Communities
Bonjour may be causing the problem.

  • My ipod nano 3 freezes when i connect it to my pc?

my ipod nano 3 freezes when i connect it to my pc, i have to reset it so it gets recognised. this is abit annoying, so is their anyway to fix this problem ?
    PS:I have ipod nano 4gb G3

I have resolved this problem for me. I initially deleted and reinstalled iTunes and deleted any redundant programs which might have been creating a conflict (I have children who install all kinds of rubbish) Someone else had found a USB program conflict and I think my problem was around a conflict with the USB ports. I removed a printer connection which was (unusually) connected via a port next to the ipod connection and plugged the ipod in via a different port and bingo - all is well.

  • Computer freezes when i connect ipod mini 4gb

i have a problem with my ipod mini 4gb (2nd gen.) for like 2months, it freezes when i connect it to my windows computer.
i tried to reset my ipod en reinstal itunes, but nothing worked. PLEASE HELP!

Hmm... See, I've tried that already (And just tried it again) and instead of allowing me to run it, the computer freezes entirely, just as it would if the "Restart your computer" message came up, only it doesn't show the text, and nor does the screen dim. The only thing I can do at that point is hold down the power button, thusly shutting the computer down. So I cannot restore my iPod that way. Are there any other ways? Or does anyone perhaps have any other suggestions?

  • My iMac freezes when using Firefox

My iMac freezes when using Firefox. We have to restart our computer.

TutorDaddy, if this Mac is still covered by the initial warranty or under AppleCare, take it in and have it looked at. As the old label used to say, there truly are "no user serviceable parts inside." Kernel panics very usually indicate failing hardware.
I have an older iBook G4 that started developing kernel panics and like you, despite reinstalling the OS from a freshly formatted volume, they kept continuing. I looked at the crash log and saw that in each instance of panic, the last bit of code to be accessed had something to do with AirPort. Knowing that the AirPort software was at then current levels, I surmised the problem to be a bad AirPort networking card which, on that particular model of the iBook, was a very small module attached directly to the logic board. Since the computer was out of AppleCare, I broke the machine down myself (I didn't realize that there could be so many barely visible screws in one machine) and removed the offending piece of hardware. My iBook lives but without WiFi, it now sits as a more or less desktop machine needing an ethernet connection to stay connected to a network.
I do not suggest you break into your iMac. First of all, I'm guessing one would need to be able to pull off the glass and have the necessary glue to reattach it, which is not really available to us consumers. If you're feeling adventurous enough to read the crash logs from each panic, you might be able to surmise the hardware component (or badly written application or library; it can happen) that's causing the panic. If it's a software issue, remove the offending software app and see if the panics return. If it's a hardware issue, it's best to let a competent service tech qualified on Apple hardware to handle it.

After browsing through related problems in the discussions, I saw this link to a third-party web site being handed out. Perhaps you'll find it useful: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html

  • Itunes 10.1 Freezes when i connect my 32GB iPhone 3GS

Ever Since i updated my iTunes this morning it freezes when i connect the phone. When i unplug it it comes back. There are times that when i re plug it after a bit it works. My phone was acting up so I decided to restore it. But then i get the same problem again so i couldn't restore from back up. I been trying to figure out the solution to this problem since 7 AM in the morning EST. I been looking around the forums for similar problems but it didn't help. I followed steps from apple on this page: http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/itunes/#section_7
That didn't help either. I been repeating all these steps plus more multiple times and nothing solved it. It just keeps freezing. I even Called out of work today just trying to Fix this dumb issue cause i can't be with out my phone PLEASE HELP!!

I'm not sure what's causing this, but it has just started happening to me too. It has been happening with both my iPhone 4 and my wife's iPhone 3GS, but more with the 3GS.
I thought rebooting the machine had fixed the problem, but it happened again this morning.
A workaround that has worked successfully for me is this:
With iTunes not running, plug in the phone. iTunes should then start on its own and start syncing properly. If it doesn't start automatically, start it manually (with the phone already plugged in) and the sync should start. But starting it first and then plugging in the phone doesn't seem to work.
    I'm running iTunes 10.1.2.17.
    Edit:
Okay, I think I just got lucky with the suggestion above to plug in the phone with iTunes not running. That's not working for me anymore. What does work pretty consistently (though not always) it starting or restarting iTunes manually after the plug has already been plugged in. This may mean killing it from the task manager if it's frozen, or waiting for the freezing to wear off (which it does eventually, even though it never recognizes the device or starts a sync).

    1.  If you are really on iOS 7.1, you may wish to try upgrading to 8.1.2 which is the latest (basing this on your signature).
    2.  If updating the phone doesn't help, is this only when you connect to a specific wifi network?  Or all wifi networks (including public with no password)?  If it is ALL wifi networks, you may have a hardware problem.  Genius bar would be the next step.
