Hello, I have a imac G5 17" and it will not boot up...... There isn't any chime when you turn it on and the led light will come and fade out a little but will stay on and the screen will stay black. Does any one have any suggestions on what's wrong and how to fix it?

The bottom of that article says to contact an authorized service technician.  You may also find that simply replacing the PRAM battery (the coin shaped battery) helps.   Note: if you have any capacitors that are labelled X on their top (as opposed to just K), you may have the problem of the leaking capacitors which required a power supply and/or logicboard replacement.  The leaking capacitor was an industry wide problem.

  • HT1800 how do I install a wireless printer to my iMac that doesn't have a cd drive. It comes with a cd but I can't use it. I have tried to download the driver online but not sure what to do now...

I have a Brother HL-2270DW that is wirless and it comes with an installation CD. But I don't have an external CD DRive for my imac. I have downloaded the driver online but I don't what to do from here. I suppose if I had the cd drive it would take me through it step by step but I can't.

  • 21" iMac getting white screen and does not boot up

    Hi All!
This is my first time to post here but have been using Mac OS since 2009.
I am having issues with my  Mid 2011 iMac 21". I keep  getting a white screen and it does not boot up.
I am a bit technical so I have done all the necessary steps as below:
    1. Powercycle the system (Shutdown, unplug for 10 seconds and replug) = No go
    2. Reset NVRAM several times = No go
    3. Went to Safe Boot = Vertical white stripes on blue screen appears
    4. Tried booting on Recovery Disk = Vertical white stripes on blue screen appears
I'm thinking my video card is faulty now.
Any help guys? I hope my hard drive is not fried
What's worse, my 3 year extended warranty just expired last June and it's only been 3 months

First i can't send it back becuase it didnt have a warranty i purchased it on ebay. second the guy didnt send the install disks with it as he promised i have tried to follow up with him with no luck so hes been reported to ebay. and due to current buisiness expenses cant afford the new software. is there anything else i can do to at least boot the thing so i can figure out whats wrong with it. and has anybody experienced this before and if so how was the issue resolved. soooo frustrated as buisiness is at a stand still till this machine works. p.s.it has osx leopard latest version.

  • IMac G5 Replaced Failed HD - will not boot.

    Hello,
I have an iMac G5 Model A1076 on which the Hard Drive was failing. I thought I would be able to save the data by transferring it to a new hard drive (literally as the old one died) but it seems perhaps the transfer did not complete before the old HD died.
Therefore, I now have an iMac G5 with a new HD that boots only to the "Question Mark / Mac on Folder" grey screen upon turning the computer on. I inserted an OSX disc in hopes of rebuilding the operating system but cannot get past the grey screen.
How do I get this computer working again?
    Thanks so much!!

If you don't have the original discs, unfortunately you will have to get a newer retail version of Mac OS X that supports the machine. That usually would be 10.4.6 or 10.5.6. Apple retail by phone may have it, but it is no longer available on their website. The retail DVD looks either like:
    * or * respectively.
It would not say OEM, DropIn, or Upgrade. The G5 iMac can't be upgraded to Snow Leopard.

  • Toshiba Portégé m400 powering up but not booting problem

Hi people this is the first time I have posted on the toshiba forums. My toshiba m400 tablet laptop stopped booting recently and I am unable to find an answer to my problem. The laptop is refurbished I bought it off e-bay 6-7 months ago so the 2 month warrenty is out. It worked fine up until recently History: about 2 weeks ago it started to hang then about 1 minute later the fan would go really loud and the only way to get the laptop to work was to pull the power and reboot, it started off about once per day I thought that it was just weird and ignored it until it got more frequent. then about 1 week later it when I tried to boot the laptop the power light would go on and nothing would happen then a while later the fan would start being really loud. What I tried: I replaced the battery as I thought it was a power issue, still not working I did some research and thought it might be a over heating issue because of dust.I got a techncian friend to look at it they opened it up and cleaned the dust out, still not working Connected it to an external monitor in case it was the screen that was not working , the screen didnt show anything Currently I push the power switch and the 1st light from the left, the power light goes on and I can hear the fan and hard drive working but nothing is displayed on the screen and I dont think the system is booting. The same thing happens regardless of what battery I use or if the laptop is plugged in. So currently my laptop is a paperwieght does anybody have any suggestions besides buy a new laptop

  • S-Video adapter and analog TV works with OSX 10.5 but not Boot Camp 2.1(XP)

I bought a mini-DVI to S-video or composite adapter to use with an older analog TV. Works great with OSX 10.5 no problems. However, I currently have Windows XP running with Boot Camp 2.1 and it wont work with the TV. If I ever get an image it's three black and white fuzzy and distorted iterations of the monitor.
Since it works with OSX but not with XP i'm thinking its some sort of boot camp issue and not a problem with the hardware or adapter. Therefore, it should be solvable, right? Does anybody know how to fix this? Will upgrading to snow leopard and boot camp 3.1 solve it?

Perform a custom install from the Mac OS X 10.5 disks and install only that component if possible; if not, use Pacifist to install it. In either case, rerun the combo updater for your Mac OS X version afterwards.

  • NEF images loaded on iMAC into PSCC are distorted, but not on Preview or second iMAC or MacBook Air

NEF images loaded onto one IMAC into PSCC are distorted but show normally in Preview.   Same NEF on second iMAC and MacBook Air are not distorted.   Questions
    1.     Is there a setting in PSCC that needs to be tweaked
    2.   Is the PSCC loaded on the iMAC corrupted or need repair?   How does one determine which and how to fix?
    Thanks

You have some lens correction enabled or a graphics hardware acceleration issue. nothing that a reinstall would fix. Since you haven't provided any relevant exact technical info, nobody can say more.

  • Internet OK w/ Parallels but not Boot Camp

    Background:
Last week my WDS network consisting of 3 Airport Expresses (802.11g) got snarled up to the point I had to reset the entire system. Prior to this I was able to get Internet via Boot Camp, Fusion (on my Mac Pro), or Parallels (in my MacBook Pro).
    *Current problem:*
After the network was restored I had to reenter my WEP password/code into all my machines. On my MacBook Pro, however, I cannot get Internet with Boot Camp. When I try to "repair," it times out and tells me it can't find the IP. (It has no problems "seeing" my network, it just won't get online).
However, when I use Windows via Parallels 2.5 (which uses this Boot Camp partition) I have no problem getting online. *The problem only exists when using Boot Camp on the MBP.* (I have no problems getting online via Fusion or Boot Camp on my Mac Pro either, just to eliminate my ISP, modem, and base stations).
But now that I've narrowed down the issue to just Boot Camp on my MBP I'm not sure how to proceed. I'm not much of a Windows troubleshooter. Any ideas how to get Internet back?

Same general problem, but I'm using a Mac Pro that previously connected without a problem under BC.
For my case, I removed then reinstalled Vista to a larger partition. I can connect to the network, but not the internet. Parallels and OSX have no problem (though I have to select the connection in OSX after booting to Vista and back).
    I'm using WPA+TKIP

  • [SOLVED] Toshiba 3.0 USB 2TB (HDTC720XK3C1) Assigned Drive Letter But Not Working

My external HD has 750gb of data that I cant access.  It shows up with a hard drive letter, but doesnt show like it used to (showing how much storage is used and unused) or showing it's assigned name.  It also doesnt work if I plug it into a different computer (does the same thing).  I cant remember if I properly removed it when I unplugged it last night when I finished using it, so that may be the cause.  I tried going to "manage drives" and uninstalling the drivers, but no luck.  Tried rebooting with it connected, no luck.  Tried unplugging for several hours and plugging back in, no luck.  I do not wish to reformat the drive because of the 750GB of data I'll lose.  Please help!

*****I FIXED IT!!!!!*******   I continued searching the web and found the fix.  All I needed to do was open the command prompt (cmd) and run this script "chkdsk /f E: (E: was the generic drive letter assigned).  Basically windows runs check disk and fixes the problem.  It also said you could try "chkdsk /r E:" but it worked on my first attempt.  Make sure you allow the computer enough time to finish.... It took a long time for it to completely finish.  (one way to know if it's done, you will be able to type in the cmd prompt again, if not, your computer is still working in the back ground)  After it was done, I ran my windows defender to check my removable drive for virus's and sure enough it found 3 threats.
I HOPE THIS HELPS ANYONE ELSE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM as it seems like a relatively easy fix, but over 80 people had read my plee for help with no response.

  • Hard drive issue, can not boot past disk utility

I got off work this morning and was wanting to do a clean install of osx10.10, unfortunately I did something bad, with my lack of sleep. I think I canceled the operation when I clicked cancel during the reinstall of OS X. Now I can not boot past the disk utility screen. There is also no sub menu under my listed hard drive "Macintosh HD." Is there a way I can fix this?
It's a brand new MBP, 15inch retina. I had it for only a week and I am at work right now. So if there is anything I can do from here that would be great!!
I also tried to reinstall OS X from the disk utility and when it asked to select disk to install OS X my only option was the recovery HD

Ok, I will try that. I still have my old MBP that I am supposed to be trading in. Good thing i haven't mailed it off yet.
I just reset the SMC and Pram and tried to boot in recovery. Once it downloaded everything online and i went to install OS X, it asked me to select and disk where i want to install. Well, there wasnt a disk listed at all...
So, now I will try to create a USB installer when i get home from work and try that out. I will keep you posted
    Thanks,
    Keith

  • SATA cable replaced but not booting 2009 Unibody MacBook Pro but HD boots from USB

Intially I got the greay flashing folder.
Pulled the drive from the computer and booted it on the same computer with through SATA to USB external reader, no problems.
Ordered a new SATA cable and installed, I have checked all connections for firm snug fitting and proper instalation.
The HD will not boot from inside the computer.
I am in a country that does not have Apple stores and the closest reseller is a great distance away.
    Any ideas?
    What could cause this issue?
    Thanks!

    Try this:
Connect the drive to the MBP as before. Go to Applications / Utilities / Disk Utility. In DU, select the external drive in the left hand column, click First Aid, then Repair Disk. When that is done, do it again. Next click Repair Permissions. After that, quit DU
That process may be all you need to do to get the files you need off the external.

  • Data Recovery off of a drive that will not boot

I have a server which will not boot into windows, I really just need to grab a few files off of it, I have downloaded several types of software and of course there is a limit on how much it will restore then it wants you to pay, the size is about 52 gb's, I used to use WINPE, does anyone have a piece of software that is free that I can recover this data since I can not boot into windows?

    Did you do this:
    Repair the Hard Drive
Boot from your Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select the external volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. Quit the installer to restart the computer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
See if this works to repair the drive.

  • I burned home movie in idvd on 2010 iMac and plays fine there but not on 2008 macbook pro. someone mentioned vlc and codex needs?

I created a movie in imovie and burned it to -R disk on my 2010 imac. It plays well there. But when I tried to play it in my 2008 macbook pro it would not play. what I got was two folder icons that said audio and visual and when i clicked on those it brought up several lines I couldn't understand. I did get the audio but not the video.
Apple said the Pro was beyond applecare which I knew but I thought it was iLife issue. They said it was not---that it was a Pro issue. I heard something about needing download of VLC and something about a codex. Not having much of an idea of what I was doing I downloaded a VLC thing and the disk played audio and video. Once. Today it will not play. So that is where I am stuck. Can anyone help please?

    Hi
Does the DVD play on a standard DVD-player ?
If so - then the Pro doesn't need anything. Most probably the problem is due to
    • Cheap brand of DVD used - Memorex and NoName known problem makers - I use Verbatim (only)
    • Burn Speed not set down - I do to x2 - and to select BEST is not a good choice at all as this will be same as Highest = Lot's of burn errors
If DVD plays OK on the other Mac - make a Copy BY USING Disk Util tool and do not forget to set down the Burn Speed !
