IMac G3 Take Apart

I have been considering taking apart my iMac G3 600 Mghz "snow". The screen is very bad and i think it will die very soon. I plan to put it in a new case and use it as a server, but i had a few quesitons. If I take it apart what precautions should i take and is it even worth it at all? Would there be any danger involved in it? I plan on taking out the Logic board, Power Supply, CD Drive, HardDrive, down-converter someting and any other parts that are necessary to run.
What are you thoughts on this?

You could try to locate the service and repair manual for your iMac on the Internet. I think the name is
imac_summer01.pdf. AppleRescue has this manual for sale. See: http://applerescue.com/

Warning:
The power supply is just a logic board and it isn't separately enclosed like a pc power supply. And the power supply is next to the crt and crt contains dangerous/fatal voltages even after powering off your machine!

can i take apart the imac power cord to put it through a hole in my desk.  I'm able to get the ring off, but dont want take the housing off incase it breaks

I hear you.  The reason I asked is that on the computer end of the cable, I took the ring off and it looks like there are some clasps around the housing, so I was wondering if these were for the purpose of threading the the cable.  I will try and get some pictures.  The drill is charging, however!!
    Thanks

An iOS device can only be synced with one iTunes library.

  • How do i take apart an old Studio Display?

So, my girlfriend and I saw this article where someone has taken apart an old Apple Studio Display and turned it into a groovy little cat bed:
    http://www.bitrebels.com/geek/the-mac-apple-studio-display-cat-bed-mod/
The problem though is that I can't find any instructions online as to how to properly take apart one of these displays, and neither of us really has a clue on how to start or what we're getting into should we decide to do this to our old one that's just taking up space in the basement.
Anyone have any links to detailed instructions, or feel like offering up any advice? Thanks!

  • When starting up a Mountain Lion iMac, it takes along time before network logins are available.

When starting up a Mountain Lion iMac, it takes along time before network logins are available. There seems to be a huge delay getting the network up and running, and I'm not sure why. This isn't an issue for identical iMacs running Snow Leopard.
If I login with a local account, I see the ethernet registered as disconnected for at least a minute, then it pops up. If I switch to Snow Leopard, using the exact same hardware, network cable, jack, etc, it's instant.
    Has anybody encountered anything similar?

No. I have a rMBP and a Mac Mini on a home LAN. The Mac Mini is connected via ethernet and the rMBP is WiFi. Both connect instantly to my network. Both are running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2.

  • Take Apart Guide for PM G5 2.0 Dual (Late 2005)

    Hello
It has been determined that my PM G5 has a blown power supply. Unfortunately I do not qualify for the repair program as I purchased my PM G5 in late December '05. So, now I'm going to have to try & replace the power supply myself.
I've been searching the web now for about 2 days & did manage to find some guides, the best of which is from '03, but I can't seem to find clear consice instructions for my particular G5. I'm stuck at the point where I need to remove the large plate (the on with G5 printed on it) that covers the CPU's. After that everything I've read/seen seems pretty straight forward.
So, anyone know where I can get a take apart guide for the Power Mac G5 Dual (Late 2005).
    Thanks
    Tim

Steve, looks like you have exactly what I need. Is there any chance you could send me the information, or a link to where I could obtain it? I have two G5's that need repair and I am under a deadline. Thanks in advance. (Hope someone is still watching this thread!)

  • Can my early 2008 iMac (intel) take a wireless keyboard?

Sorry for the ignorance, here, but my iMac's keyboard has just gone up the spout. I like the idea of a wireless one, but I don't know whether this iMac can take one

Thanks for your quick reply, Kappy.
However, I don't understand  why a wireless keyboard can't replace the original USB keyboard.

  • Service Manual or Take-apart Guide for Motherboard...

Does anyone have the Nokia Service Manual for the Booklet? Or a take-apart guide which covers replacing the motherboard? Thanks.

You will have to try elsewhere for that.
It's against the rules of this forum to pass on Nokia's internal service manuals or discuss warranty voiding self repairs.
With it being a computer you may have more luck on a general computer hardware forum.

  • Can the iMac G5 take advantage of CAS2 or 2.5 RAM?

Can the iMac G5 take advantage of CAS2 or 2.5 RAM? I know it comes with CAS3 RAM.
    THANKS

    rob_ART:
i I've run some tests on a Power Mac with mixed results. In most recent tests, I saw an 8% advantage running the RAM preview render in Motion 2 with CAS 2 memory vs CAS 3.
It's possible to to it any number of ways. Some memory controllers will dumb it down and select one conservative CL value timing and stick with it. Others could bump it up.
It's unlikely to be that critical. A .5 cycle advantage wouldn't be that noticeable to most people, but some gamers insist on extracting every last bit of performance from their memory.

  • Guide to take apart an HP Compaq cq60-220EO

Hi. I have a huge problem with an cq60-220EO computer. It has over time taken in a lot of dust and that is traped in the cooler grill. I have softly tryed to take apart the computer in order to get rid of the dust, but in vain. I don't know if I shall approch the cooler and the fan from above or belov.
Does anyone know where to find a good guide who describes as to how to take the "Compaq Presario CQ60-220EO" apart??
The problem is that dust has gathered at the cooler grill and that prevents air from being blown out and like a blanket it traps the same air on the inside and prevent fresh air from the outside to enter the cooling system. As a result the temperature of the traped air increase rapidly. In order to protect itself the CPU lowers the clock frequency untill the temperature reach a point where the Mother Board simply cuts the power in order to save what can be saved. No "Windows is shutting down" messages of any kind, just a few thousand RPMs of the fan and then it cuts power.

Here is the Manual you need:
    Repair Manual
Be careful in there. Take your time and establish a method to identify and keep track of the screws.

  • 2.4gHz iMac take apart question...

    Hi,
I have a 2.4ghz 20" iMac. When started up from cold there is a horrible noise that seems to come from the bottom right hand corner of the machine - To the right of the Apple logo. I am sure its a fan and not the drive. Sooo... In no particular order...
    1. Which fan is it please? Optical, Hard drive or CPU.
    2. Where would one purchase any or all of the above? - Probably best from the UK as thats where I am.
    3. I have all the required tools and most, I hope! of the knowledge. How long would you reckon this will take?
    Thank you for any replies.
    Regards.
    Ian.

    Your 20" 2.4GHz is what a Mid 07 or Early 08?
I see all three fans listed for the 2007 20inch, I didn't check for the 08 but there most likely the same..
    http://www.thebookyard.com/index.php?cPath=34_122
Before you open her up, you might try using SMCFanControl and play with the speed of the HD fan to see if the noise is actually coming from it.
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/31029
If the fan sounds fine thru all speed ranges, then the noise may be coming from your HD.
