Imac G3 trayloading Grape Cd won't recognize disks.

Hi,
When i got my imac it was fine and everthing but then i donwnloaded a software for cd drive and then i deleted it.  After then it wont read cd's and the AppleCD Audio player wont work.. i get an error message saying: The Apple CD/DVD driver was not loaded at startup. Please be sure that at least one Apple CD-rom, DVD-rom drive is connected and turned on, and that the file "Apple CD/DVD Driver" is in the System folder. Then restart your Macintosh. Do i need a cd driver?
new cd drive?

You can get it from an existing Mac OS 9 System Folder.  Maybe you have an older backup of the current installation?  It's part of a Mac OS 9 installation, so I don't know of a separate download.
If you have a Mac that currently runs some version of Mac OS X (including that tray-loader G3 if it also has Mac OS X installed), you can get a complete Mac OS 9.2.2 System Folder using this method which I summarized here
https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!topic/macos9/nR2QQCKaCFA
There's also an old Mac program called TomeViewer.  You can use it to extract individual components from Mac installation packages (which were called "tomes" in the old days).
http://home.arcor.de/grouchosbox/tomeviewer.html
If you have your Mac OS 9 installation disc, you can use it as the source.  You may also be able to use a Mac OS 9 updater download, such as the one for Mac OS 9.2.1 and extract it from there (assuming it includes the Apple CD/DVD Driver - probably does).

  • Won't Recognize Disk

I have partitioned my 2011 15" MBP hard drive with Boot Camp and have a Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit disk. I've gotten to the step in Boot Camp where it says "Insert you Windows Installation Disk," which I do. It shows up on the desktop as a DVD and then as the white mounted idcon on the desktop, but Boot Camp won't recognize it when I click "Start Installation"

Here's a trick you can use on "upgrade" media.  It was my response to someone else having the same problem.
Situation: You have genuine discs, but does any of these have the word "UPGRADE" block-printed on them?
If so, BCA might be balking at this alone. These discs also have a different internal label than "full packaged product" copies. As such, Apple does not endorse their use unless upgrading a live installation.
Nevertheless, you should still be able to boot from an upgrade medium as from a full product; the difference being that the upgrade will face an additional test on the Product Key to verify that it was used on a machine that had Windows already. For now, the test cares nothing about whether the upgrade was over Vista or the same/lower tier of 7, so you can install your upgrade once without a key, and then once more entering the key you received.
That said, hold the C key with the disc inserted in your SuperDrive. snd continue holding C until you get flashed by a black screen in the act of starting Windows. Let go of said key, and press on through the install. You may also need the Mac boot menu, accessible with the Option key at startup, to get back to Windows after rebooting each of 3 times.
When Windows asks for the Product Key, don't enter it yet. Also, do not allow Windows to activate online automatically. Do nothing but set up your user account(s) at this time.
Run Setup once more, this time from within the installed Windows, and choose to upgrade. It'll take quite a bit longer, but on this run, you can enter your key. Set up the Boot Camp software next; and finally, complete activation.
    Good luck,
    Nate

  • Imac core2 duo mountain lion won't recognize D key for diagnostics

I've tried everything I can thnk of to get my mac to boot diagnostics. Is there any way to get a diagnostic only bootable media? Wired or wireless keyboards make no difference. Nor does booting with the option key, selecting the CD, and pressing the D key before going on.

Tommy197944 - i have tried all 4 USB ports as well as different USB cables.   I took the drive to the Apple Store where they tried it on several different systems. iMAC running OS X 10.8.5; MACbook Pro running OS X Lion and a MACbook Pro running OS X 10.8.5.   Both MACbook Pros mounted the drive but the iMAC failed to mount the drive.  I remember a blog response saying swapping the OS X Mountain Lion's DVDPlayback.Framework file for OS X Lion's DVDPlayback.Framework might solve the issue.
It is perplexing that the exact same Samsung DVD Writer, model SE-208DC/TSWS mounts on MACbook Pro running the latest version of Mountain Lion (10.8.5).  That MACbook Pro also had an internal DVD Writer.  The Samsung DVD Writer was also tested on a MACbook Pro running Lion and it also mounted correctly.  So what did Apple change in OS X Mountain Lion that would prevent the iMAC from mounting the external Samsung DVD Writer.  The Samsung DVD Writer has no drivers for the MAC.  It depends on the OS X files.  I am trying to keep a positive attitude and hoping Apple did not change OS X Mountain Lion to prevent 3rd party external DVD Writers from mounting correctly with the new IMACs that no longer can be configured with an internal DVD Writer.
Most grateful for some proven solutions.

  • IMac running 10.8.2 won't recognize my printer!

Suddenly for no reason at all, my computer suddenly does not recognize my Canon MP600.  It just stopped working one day and now it's not even listed in the print & scan area.  I have unplugged and plugged my Canon back in, tried to find drivers on the Canon website (they say there are none needed for Lion) and I just can't get it working.   I would hate to buy a new printer when this one works just fine (usually).   Help?

Canon says the driver may be included with the operating system.  I'd contact them to let them know you can't get it to work.  You can also lookup alternatives on my FAQ*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/printersx.html
Lastly, there are these printer updates from Apple:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/#Canon%20Printer
Unfortuantely you will have to catalog all 7 or 8 pages of search results trying to find the latest version.

  • IMac 10.4.11 printer won't recognize

I tried to hook up my parent's printer to their hand me down imac running 10.4.11. I downloaded the drivers from hp' site (HP Inkjet 4500) for the older OS but when I go to instal it the printer isn't being recognized to add. I have it connected via USB. I've tried all of the usb ports, restarted both but still nothing. Any thoughts?

With 10.4 & especially hp SW, it's generally neccasary to Repair Permissions with Disk Utility, then reboot.

  • Running CS4 on iMac. Nikon D5100.  Won't recognize .nef files.  Help???

Currently I have CS4, 11.0.2 with Camera Raw 5.7.0.213 installed.  I've tried to install camera raw version 6.4 - which is what their chart says I need for the D5100, but I get an error message: "Updates could not be applied.  This patch is not applicable for you.  Please check for updates from the Help menu in your product to see a list of latest updates available." My Help menu shows: "There are no updates available at this time".  I found one recommendation about clearing out the cache for the Adobe Update Manager, but I've looked everywhere and can not locate any such file on the computer.  I'm stumped.  Can anyone help?

D5100 support was added in ACR 6.4 you need to download the 8.6 DNG Converter and create DNG file for your NEF files for CS4.

  • Windows won't recognize disk enabled iPod when connected

i've tried multiple times to put documents onto my ipod by just drag and dropping them in my mac, but when i plug my ipod into a school windows computer, the ipod isjust labeled as "removable disk e:." when i double click the drive it asks me if i want to format the ipod. is there any way i can make this work or am i just not doing it right?

Windows cannot recognize Mac formatted drives such as iPods.
Probably the easiest way to use an iPod on both Mac and Windows computers is to format the iPod (using iPod Updater) using the PC. This will force your iPod to use the Windows file system (FAT32) which both the Mac and PC can read from and write to without the help of additional software. Of course then all your software updates for the iPod will have to be done on Windows.

If you need to use a Mac (HFS+) formatted iPod on a Windows PC, you'll need to install some 3rd party software such as XPlay 2.0 (which you can get from MediaFour Software). This will enable your Windows PC to read a Mac-formatted iPod.

    Hi TakesTwo2Tango,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  It sounds like you should definitely be seeing a plus sign after tapping Edit, so I would try a couple relatively easy things (closing the Music app, resetting the iPhone):
iOS: Force an app to close

iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

i tried to get the installation disc for the camcorder but mac wont' recognize it becaue it is windows based i guess.
i just bought the camcorder a few months ago and when my computer crashed thought i'm finally getting a mac...it's been a costly venture which has resulted in more frustration than before my pc.
now the things i want to use with my mac that i thought would be even simpler...are not even useable...
    help

That camera shoots H.264 in an .avi wrapper.
You will have to transfer the files via the Finder.
Get a free copy of MPEG Streamclip and convert them to QuickTime .mov using the H.264 codec if you are presumably editing in iMovie.
Note that your list of video codecs won't look like mine as I have Final Cut Pro, but H.264 is definitely an option for you.

  • IMac 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, running Lion 10.7.3, won't recognize external speaker jack, any suggestions?

iMac 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, running Lion 10.7.3, won't recognize external speaker jack, any suggestions?  Got a brand new iMac and purchased external speakers for same.  Hooked them into external speaker jack and the computer does not recognize the external speaker jack.  I then plugged them into the external head phone jack and the computer recognized the head phone jack.  How can I get the computer to recognize the speaker jack?

Thanks "a brody," my mistake, I was mistaking the "audio in" jack for a speaker output jack.  I have some Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers with a built in amplifier that I am using and they sound beautiful.  I do have them plugged into the correct jack, but was thinking there was a speaker out put and headphone out put.
Thanks again for correcting me, I feel much better now that I know my brand new iMac isn't defective, lol.

My imac (running 10.8) won't recognize one (1) of my two (2) epson artisan 810 printers when I try to add it to my wifi in the "print and scan" utility.  The printer that won't connect was previously connected to a PC running Win7.  Could Bonjour have something to do with this?  Any suggestions on how to correct this would be most appreciated.

iPhoto won't recognize SD card placed directly into my iMac's SD slot. Image Capture shows the name of the SD card but does not show any photos. If I use the Finder I can see all of the photos on the sd card so I know they are there. I've previously imported lots of photos from teh SD slot directly into iPhoto. Using iPhoto 8.1.2
    Mac OS 10.6.8

Make a temporary, backup copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
any tips on how to recover those lost photos?
If you don't recover the photos with the above you'll need to run a recovery app like MediaRECOVER to recover the photos from the memory card.

Repair permissions and restart your computer.  Also, check System Preferences/Printe & Fax.  Make sure your printer is listed.
