IMac G4 20" PSU Connector

Trying to confirm my suspicion of a bad logic board on my machine. The machine turns on but freezes shortly thereafter. Screen displays video, the red LED turns on at the bottom. The test points underneath check fine. Though, the 12VSLP I am unsure of.
Apple Service Source Manual reads under No Power (pg 15, step 12) to check Power Supply Output with the clip upwards and the ground on the lower left hand side. I am getting +12v on the upper 4 from right to left. According to the manual, above the ground, I am supposed to get +12v as well, but I am not getting any readings.
Of course, the guide shows a 14 pin connector and I have a 16 pin connector, so there is a bit of confusion as well.
A kernel panic did display; System Failure: cpu=0. I was told by an Apple Store that when the cpu=0 then it is a logic board. I really would have preferred if he had checked the test points instead.
Perhaps there is more than 1 component that is giving me the shaft.
Any clarifications highly appreciated.

Perhaps the different part numbers for the iMac G4 17" and the
iMac G4 20" power supply reflect a difference in the connectors
as well as other subtle variations?
While I have the similar Apple Service Manual for iMac G4 1.25
mine says 17" model on the front page of the pdf document file.
And a separate image comparing the USB2.0 15"/17"/20" iMac
G4 models and major internal parts, the expanded views do have
different numbers on some important sections parts.
Is the service manual for the 20" specifically? The pin count of
the power supply unit may vary due to the power unit used; yet
in some document (have no hard copy or web url to verify, now)
I read showed a replacement power supply for a later 17" model
would work in a 20" iMac G4 model. The PSU item, listed for sale.
Perhaps now that contributor, 'spudnutty' has relocated to Idaho,
and has a computer out of the moving box, he may see your post
with some ideas on the inner sanctum of the magic iMac G4 box?
Is there a possibility, the 16 pin connector vs 14 pin, may have two
unused pin locations? (I'd suspect all may have a wire to someplace.)
Hmmm...
Good luck & happy computing!

The manual is no help. Neither is FAQ's.

Yes, if you're talking about the photos in the camera roll.
Plug it in and open iPhoto. It should appear like any other digital camera.

  • IMac Power supply PSU failure due to UPS type

I am posting this to aid anyone else who has suffered a similar issue as it took me some time to rectify and it was difficult to find evidence of proof.
    Preamble:
My late 2012 27" iMac began powereing off, sometimes after a few days sometimes after 20 minutes. It gradually got worse until it would not power on at all.
I had tried all possible fixes I could including - reset SMC and NVRAM, reinstalling Mavericks, running from an external HDD with a cloned OS, running with a fresh Mavericks install on a USB stick.
Also ran Apple Hardware tests and used Micromat Techtool 7 with no problems apparent.
Also tried running when moved from my desk and plugged into a different socket in the house (this point is especially relevant).
    Repair attempts:
Apple (via Amsys) changed the logic board. This worked for a day then the fault reoccurred. Apple (Apple store this time, Amsys scratched the aluminium housing previously so I avoided them) then changed the PSU.
This fixed the fault and the iMac ran with no problem (apart from audio missing - another discussion perhaps!), BUT when I moved the iMac back to its original position on my desk (having been plugged in the aforementioned other socket) it would not power on again. I then realised it was the UPS and iMac were not playing nicely. If I plugged the iMac into the UPS when the UPS was already powered on, the iMac would work until the next random power down. I have used the UPS with everything else including the iMac for over a year so didn't suspect it. However, I do have the occasional brownout (power dip) and power cut so it has been utilised for the iMac a handful of times without issue.
    Solution:
I have now researched and concluded the iMac PSU (at least the Energy Star 5.0 onwards compliant ones, not sure about older iMacs) need a Pure Sine Wave UPS otherwise the PSU may be damaged as mine was. It may not happen until the UPS is called upon either. In fact any active PFC PSU could be affected. I could not find this out from Apple or APC (my UPS manufacturer), only with some reasearch and my own knowledge of electrics. It seems that not all iMacs are as sensitive or for other reasons this fault will not occur with a similar set-up to mine, but I am now confident that this was the cause. Please note I do not yet have my own Pure Sine Wave UPS and I am now running without one for the time being until I buy a Cyberpower CP1300EPFCLCD or similar.

    Welcome, Cubber;
yes, there are some people complaining here about power supplies -
I'd contact Apple and tell them your problem. Being hit twice by the same failure is not nice. Usually they cooperate - have a look at just this post her:

  • IMac external monitor video connector, huh?

Apparently, there are at least FOUR different types of video connectors in use these days.
WHICH one is used for External video on the iMac (tiny, rectangular) and is it analogue or digital?

Mini-DVI to VGA to connect to a computer monitor with a 15-pin VGA connector (also on some modern TVs).
Mini DVI to Video to connect to a television using composite video (RCA jack) or s-video (mini-DIN).
Mini DVI to DVI to connect to a monitor having a DVI connector.

  • Z87M-G43 & PSU Connector Question

    MoBo: MSI Z87M-G43
    PSU: EVGA Supernova NEX650G
MoBo's owner's manual says to connect PSU to MoBo using 24-pin ATX cable from PSU to connector labeled "JPWR1". And, from PSU to connector labeled "JPWR2". The 24-pin cable connect to JPWR1 fits just fine. However, the 24-pin cable is a single cable. It does not split into two connectors. The youtube video (linked from the owner's manual) shows a cable coming from the PSU that splits into a 24-pin connector and a 8-pin connector. (It looks like it's a split cable.)
The PSU comes with a 12-Volt ATX 4-pin ATX cable.
There is no connector on the PSU that accepts the 4-pin cable.
The MoBo connector labelled "JPWR2" is a four pin connector arranged in a square configuration. The PSU's cable is a 4-pin arranged in a straight line.
How do I connect my PSU to the JPWR2 connection?

the JPWR2 is a 8PIN EPS connector and the cable for that should be among the modular cables in your PSU's additional cables! its either a Dual 4 pin connector or a 4x2 (8 pin block that connects to one of the points next to the PCI-E connections marked CPU1 or CPU2)

  • I'm trying to connect my 23" Cinema display to my iMac, need help with connector cable.

I'm trying to connect my 23" Cinema Display monitor to my iMac. The adaptor cable I ordered came with a female, I need a male adaptor. Any ideas where I might find one? I purchased the BlueRigger Mini Displayport Male to DVI Female Adapter Cable.

I have the 23" aluminum Cinema Display. I just can't seem to find the right adaptor for the monitor femal plug on the backside. I've tried a Bluerigger but it was a female adaptor. I believe I need a male.

  • Satellite L775-11F with a pale screen, a loose PSU connector, worn trackpad

    Hi guys & gals,
I've had this L775-11F since Christmas, and I've noticed on occasion that the screen seems to lose some clarity, and go a little pale. It's nothing to do with the screen dimming when the backlight reduces to save power, as I can be typing when it happens. I've found that moving the hinge back and then forth again to the same angle corrects it, so I'm wondering if there's a problem with the electrical connection on the screen. Anyone else had that?
My power cable also seems to have a mind of its own, and will slowly eject itself even if there's no-one using it. Is this something that happens a lot? This is my first Tosh, and it's mighty annoying, as I can't guarantee a full charge of the battery, or use the laptop safely without the battery installed, as the thing just switches off when the power cable gets far enough out.
Finally, I have noticed that the trackpad surface is showing a lot of wear for a 6 month old laptop. The centre has become black and shiny. Looks a bit shabby for a laptop that's almost new.
D'ya think that any or all of these issues are worth contacting warranty/tech support over? The screen is the biggest worry, because if that goes over the 1 year, I'm goosed, even though it's been an issue since the laptop was a few months old. The problem is that it's an intermittent issue, which is difficult if not impossible to replicate at will. It's only happened 4 or 5 times so far, but it's a concern.
    TIA
    Mike. :)

    > D'ya think that any or all of these issues are worth contacting warranty/tech support over?
Definitely. Your notebook should work properly and I think you should not waste your time discussing but contact nearest Toshiba service provider, explain the situation and ask for help.
Let them check your notebook and do whatever must be done. Notebook has valid warranty and let Toshiba service people do their job and help you to have well working notebook.

  • Where should PSU fan connector go?

Damn, feel like a total noob for asking this question even though my system is already built and running fine. The manual does not explicity say where the PSU fan connector can/should go so i have three options, the NBFAN (not used since i have a waterblock on it) that has a sensor, or the connectors for the system fans, or cpu fan. Other boards i've used usually have connectors labeled for the PSU, but not my Neo2 Platinum. I connected the PSU fan to a system connector and decided to use the NB one for a case fan. My question is there any danger of connecting the PSU connector to the CPU connector? I have a waterblock on the cpu so the connector is not being used and it would come in handy because of the sensor.

I never hooked up the psu's fan connector to any motherboard, I really never found a need to monitor the psu's fans and thats what its for. I dont think anything can be harmed since it can work without even being connected, but dont hold me to that. Someone with more experience in the psu area may be of more help. Interesting question.

  • Connecting an old monitor to an iMac G5

I want to use an older Apple Color Display (1992; Serial #SG240LOCE04) as a second monitor with my G5 iMac. The old connector uses 15 pins in two rows of 7 and 8, repectively. The adaptor I bought from Apple on-line has the 15 pins but in three rows of 5 each. The tech help chat suggests I use an "s-video VGA display adaptor" and that such a thing is available from Apple, but I can't find it at the Store. Any suggestions, friends?

Thank you for the info--I apologize, but I'm really new to HD. So let me just get this straight: there's no way for me to output an HD signal without third party hardware?
Also, am I correct in assuming those cards will not work in an iMac? (seeing as I can't see a way to get them into the computer)
    Thanks again.

  • IMac mini displayport blank display on boot

I work in a school and we use iMacs as classroom machines for teachers. The iMacs are plugged in to vga projectors and are setup to clone in Windows. This worked fine on all our iMacs with mini dvi ports. We've just bought two lots of new iMacs with mini displayport connectors. The first lot came requiring a firmware update, the second lot were already up to date. The first lot seem to have issues where they forget that the projector is connected. The only way to get them to recognise the projector again is to unplug and replug the adaptor. This is a minor annoyance but tolerable - although the old dvi port iMacs just pick up the projector and adjust the resolution automatically. The second lot which came with the most recent firmware pre-installed seem to get stuck booting Windows when the displayport to vga adaptor is plugged in. It gets to the black screen (before the Windows logo appears) and then stops. Pressing enter seems to get it past this and continue the boot process - as if it needs some kind of user input. This is more of an annoyance because it makes doing updates remotely which require a reboot impossible and expecting staff to remember to boot their computers without the adaptor plugged in seems a bit ridiculous. I've tried updating to the latest NVIDIA drivers but the problem persists. Has anybody experienced this and does anybody have a solution?

So this is weird, playing around with the brightness controls seems to have fixed the problem - And yes I did try that yesterday but for some reason today that did the trick.

  • M92p Tower PSU Options

There have been a few threads about the propreitary 14pin PSU connectors and that there's no aftermarket support for upgrades. But it's been a little while, and Lenovo (around the office, my staff are calling them "Le-No-No" now) hasn't change policy, or offered an upgrade.
We have just received several of these i7 PC's and they all have the useless 280w PSU's. Those are severely limiting in what video cards can be installed, as anything over 55w will knock the PSU over. That means, no decent cards. A Quadro 2000 is, at 51W, about as far as we can go.
My CDW rep has been working to find a solution for us, but without any success. So I'm bringing it to the community before I have to re-evaluate our desktop hardware choice.
Has anybody made either an adapter or a PSU that will work on the Lenovo 14-pin motherboards?
(Oh, and yes, I've read http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/A-M-and-Edge-Series-ThinkCentre/M92P-14pin-power-supply-connector/m-p/84... . No help there. Thought I'd post a clear question here in hopes that someone has started making adapters.)

This works fine.  I've done it in my M92p, among other things, with the intent of upgrading the video card.

  • Will the Apple Camera Connector work with iPhone?

I have an Apple Camera Connector that I have been using with my iPod to store pictures on my iPod until returning home where I download them to my iMac. Will the connector work on iPhone?
My iPhone is on order, so there is no way for me to try it for myself.

Nope, it seems that for the most part, the only things that work are those that tapped into the audio exports. Anything that required the interface of the iPod to change or added a new menu item (including all mics, the FM Remote, etc) doesn't work.

  • CPU throttling with new PSU

    Hello
    I have a W510 with the 135W PSU. Or to be more precise: 6.75A @ 20V.
I work at two places, so I bought a generic 150W PSU with an adapter to fit the Thinkpad. The PSU is labeled 7.5A @ 20V, so it should have no problems running the laptop.
Still, upon boot I get the "This PSU is too weak for something something charging battery something" and my i7 is throttled to 1.2 GHz rather than the 3.06 it usually musters.
If I boot from battery and attach the PSU connector after Windows is up, it runs at full speed. And charges the battery just fine. So obviously, there is nothing wrong with the juice from the PSU.
Thus, I suspect that BIOS does something dumb. Can I override this somehow?

Oh, I did not realize that I could see that in Power Manager. Fascinating!
    It says 90 W.
I found another thread where the central pin thing was mentioned. I am about to order a new connector tip to chop up and modify, as that is quite a bit cheaper than buying a new PSU.
Thanks to you both for the information!

  • P6N Diamond: CPU power connector(s)

My PSU is a PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750W.  It has what appears to be both an 8-pin and a 4-pin CPU connector.  The motherboard manual shows an 8-slot connector, but it came with a plastic tab on it which blocked 4 of the 8 slots.  Neither manual (MB or PSU - the latter simply a fold-out piece of paper...) says anything about the apparent discrepancy.  The tab on the MB is easily removed, which I did and connected the 8-pin PSU connector.  I'll be running a E6850 CPU and two BFG 8800 GTS video cards.  Can anyone shed some light on why there was this plastic tab over four of the slots?  Should I be using the 8-pin connector, or the 4-pin.  In all my previous builds, I've never had a choice.  I'd rather not power up only to find I've made a mistake and fried everything.

Modular PSUs may look nice and "improve" cable management, but they also introduce more points of resistance.
There also known to be unstable on the power rails, And can cause premature failures in system components due to it...
Dont bother, a zip tie is way better in the end!

I have a Sony CCD-TRV81 Hi8 camcorder with an SVideo and the AV cables with White, Red, & Yellow cables. How do I import my tapes into an IMAC?

no, these connectors just offering an analogue signal, a computer needs some digital input, for iM it is called dv ...
if your camera doesn't support a dv-out/firewire/iLink ( << all same), you have to handle it as any other anlogue video, as VHS, read here.... :
