IMac G4 video input?

hello!
I would like to ask does iMac display support video input? Like TV box or PC video output? Which means I can use iMac just as a normal LCD monitor.
Currently I only got an old laptop in my place, I would choose to by an iBook + LCD monitor if the answer is not.
Sorry for my poor English and thanks for the answer!
Regards,
ED

No, the iMac display can't be used with any other device. It can't be used as a stand alone monitor.

  • Does apple have any products to facilitate video input on iMac 27"?

I want to input video to my iMac 27". I assume you can add a display port video card to a pc, what about VGA and hdmi support?  Has apple addressed this?  I know there was the belkin av360, apple doesnt like It anymore?

The iMacs support Video Input since iMac mid 2009 i have Play Station 3 connected on my new 27" iMac mid 2011. Im using the Belkin's HDMI to MiniDisplay Port Adaptor (It is only posibble to use the "DisplayTargetMode" from iMac-OtherMac, you have just to press cmd+f2) For all the other devices you will need an Adaptor  cuz' otherwise u won't be able to input at all, or you will not be able to use High Resolution hope this helped ppl, gl.

  • View HD Video Input on iMac Screen

I would like to view the high-definition output of my cable company's hi-def cable box (via firewire, hdmi, dvi, usb, or composite connections) on my iMac's scree. Is there any such device that will do this? I have a high-def tv stick that does work with over-the-air ATSC broadcasts, but its only other input is standard analog cable at standard definition.
Would something like this ADS Pyro video capture device work for this?
    http://www.adstech.com/products/API-558-EFS/intro/API-558_intro.asp?pid=API-558- EFS
It appears to have hi-def inputs and output capability, but I'm not totally sure.
    Thanks!

  • Really need imac 21.5 with video input!!!

I am current considering selling my PC and buying an iMac. Even though the Hardware of iMac is still not enough for playing games, I am using PS3 for all the video games so that an iMac with video input is perfect for my situation, however the 27 inch iMac model is too large for my desk and the 21.5 iMac version does not have this functionality. Really hope that the new iMac 21.5 model would come with this functionality even if it is as expensive.

  • Is the new imac's thunderbolt ports allows video input?

For the last imac, the tech specs says the mini display port could be used as a input (which output device has to be supporting display port).
In the new imac tech specs.... i couldn't find any thing about video input, only about that the 2 thunderbolt could be use as video output.
So would i be able to use it as a screen?
Also, i wanna connect my ps3 and use the imac as a screen!
    (It's a fantastic full HD screen~)
I have seen sth like this "PS3 and LED Cinema Display Solution (also DVI to Mini DP) - MacRumors Forums"
and it just cost too much that is enough for me to get a new screen!
So if the new imacs have video inputs.... than tht means this thing "Connecting A PlayStation 3 To Your iMac « Being BigMacky " will work!
Well the adapter cost me only 150 bucks~
The problem is..... does the thunderbolt ports could use it as an video input?

So seems like, the popular Kanex XD and Belkin HDMI to Mini Display Port adapters would not work for the current imac generation.
This is what I got from the Kanex company:
    "Question:
So i suppose this does not work on the latest imacs (released a few days ago)?
    Answer:
Our Kanex XD requires modification to work with the new thunberbolt iMac
    27-inch.
We are under development of a newer version. Please look out for an
    announcement soon.
In the mean time the Kanex XD still works for iMac 27 2009-early 2011 and also the LED Cinema Display 27-inch. "
This means there will soon be 3rd party developer creates a new signal converter (which is definitely a good news)
but i won't get the imac until the converter/adapters is released..... i really nedd this feature man!

  • No video input for external devices on iMac 24" display???

I got a 24" iMac a few days ago and love this thing. (Was in PC **** for last 30 years...) But one thing I am disappointed in is that there appears to be no video input to display video or to video capture. Is the only way to display video from an outside source by using a USB video capture device? For example, if I have a cable box or game console I want to display on the monitor, how can I do that? Seems silly to need to use a capture device to simply display video. Please let me know if there is simple way to do this. Thanks!

I don't see how using a camcorder would help especially although it would be technically possible to use it as a bridge between other devices I can't see how it would be worth your while.
Obviously not speaking from experience since almost all if not all DV cameras have passthrough, and feed video into a mac via firewire from the analog audio and video input port on the DV camera. They have been used for ages as decks (and are many times cheaper than DV decks) and as converters vs. buying a Canopus box etc., which are basically the same thing.
The EYE TV 250 does the same thing with a USB connection and its own software but for the myriad of DV cam owners the passthrough is a fine idea.

  • Video input/ iMac display as monitor

    Hello everybody,
I have got a feature request for future releases of the iMac series. I think I would not be the only one appreciating a solution to use an iMac's display as monitor for other computing devices such as the Mac mini or older PC-hardware. In my opinion this video input would not have to be more than another little port at the back of an iMac. This could be solved with a mini-port like it is now with the mini-DVI.
When trying to find a way to use my iMac that way I only found this vnc solution which requires a network connection between both devices but I also found many posts asking for a solution like my proposal.
Please let me know what you think of it! Thanks in advance!

It's not that easy. Providing a direct input to the monitor would require quite a bit of additional circuitry. I think that the cost of providing such in input would be unjustifiable when considering the small percentage of iMac buyers who would use such a feature. But you can suggest it to Apple here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/imac.html
For a workaround, perhaps Screen Recycler would work for you.

  • Making a video input for iMac

Anyone tried to modify the iMac to add a Videoinput? I'm electroni engineer and after disasembly my ibook, i think with a little patiente and some knowladge we can make a Video input. Any help?

    Any idea on bandwidth considerations?
    Apple's firewire 800 .vs.an HDTV stream out of a component (Xbox 360)?
My only thought (gut) would be the HD stream would saturate the firewire 800:?
    FireWire (IEEE 1394b) 800 800 Mbit/s
    Per : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megabitpersecond
    55 Mbit/s — HDTV quality 1080p
So at first blush I seem well under the threshold.
BUT, a DVI conector specs blows this away:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvi
    # Maximum clock frequency in single link mode: Capped at 165 MHz (3.7 Gbit/s)
    # Maximum clock frequency in dual link mode: Limited only by cable quality (more than 7.4 Gbit/s)
So, my conclusion is DVI specs are not what I should look at but rather the average HDTV 1080p stream.
Still, now all I need is a thirdparty vendor to create the box!

  • Question from XP user in market for iMac (Video input)

I would like to buy a Apple desktop for my home. I would like to know what my options are if I want to connect Surround Sound, HD DVD player, external hard drive, Xbox 360, and Digital Cable to the screen. I would like to know if that is possible, if it has inputs and things of that nature. Both my living room TV and Windows HP Desktop are outdated and I would like to knock out 2 birds with one stone, so to speak. Is it possible? And if so, which model(s).
Thank you, all comments would be GREATLY appreciated, I'm not very computer savvy. Thanks.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Unfortunately no iMac offers any kind of video input out of the box. There are Firewire and USB2.0 video-input devices which are good value but probably won't offer the kind of spec/quality that you will want to input HD DVDs for example.
Here's an example (link). There are HD tuners available too.
BTW, Apple stopped selling iMac G5s back in January of 2006. The current iMacs are termed "Intel iMacs".
    kind regards

  • Displayport video input support for new 27" iMac

Does anyone know if the new 27" iMac just released today has support for displayport video input like the previous generation 27" iMac does? Please tell me you haven't taken this awesome feature away in the midst of the change to Thunderbolt ports etc! I'm asking because in the previous gen iMac specs it clearly states that displayport video input is supported but it doesn't mention it in the tech specs section of the new iMac.
Could someone from Apple please let me know? Thanks.
    Mike

I am tempted to go out and buy a new HDMI to mini-displayport adapter and connect it to a new iMac at the Apple store to see for myself........
I'd hold up on that.  I don't see a mini displayport on the new iMac.  Looks like it goes through the Thunderbolt interface.  Scroll down to connectors.

  • S-Video Input

    Hey guys!
I would like to replace my current Intel Pentium 4 PC and cannot decide if I should get an iMac or build a PC. Anyways, I am not going to ask that here since I know what the outcome is going to be.
What I would like to know is if the iMac supports S-Video input via an adapter / splitter like most PC video cards with VIVO do. The reason why I need this is that I have a DVB-C receiver which I would like to use with my computer because currently, I don't have a TV. I know that I could buy something like the Elgato eyeTV if I needed S-Video, but that would be too expensive right now and also a waste of money because I only need the S-Video input - no need for a TV tuner or the ability to record shows.
    Seb

There is no video input on an iMac. The only way to get video into an iMac is through Firewire or USB.

  • Video Input

Just a question about video input on iMacs. Is there any other way to get video input from an Xbox or another gaming console without having to but Elgato products? Why hasn't apple made a 19.99 input adapter to handle S-video or component input just like they have for video output?
    Thanks

Same price, but which one is better?
Is that Pinnacle just to create MPEG-4s?
(I just want to transfer some old VHS tapes to DVDs.)

  • Video Input Feature

I'm writing this, even though Apple devs & engineers may never see it.
Apple, please make your iMac have a video-input via HDMI, and create a shortcut that would allow the iMac to switch to another input (similar to Mission Control's multiple desktops).
This is an incredibly simple task that Apple is more than able to implement with little cost, please please please do this. Or please work with intel on the Thunderbolt connection, or give us one mini-display port back. A bit disappointed I spent this much on a computer that lost basic a feature it didn't need to lose.

  • What is the best set hard drive set up on an iMac for video editing?

what is the best set hard drive set up on an iMac for video editing? i only have one internal 2tb hard drive.

    CIANCIO.mov wrote:
so is it best to edit directly off your LaCie fire wire drive, or off the internal HD and store on the external?
    The second.
Which one is faster to edit with?
The internal will operate  faster but editing uses both the Final Cut Application (on the internal), and the external which is used to store and access the video that you have shot and on which is stored the Capture Caches, and which also stores and accesses the various other caches such as Video Render, Waveform etc.
Does a faster hard drive decrease rendering time?
I think it must, but I have never timed it.
whats Faster, having another internal drive or a thunderbolt or firewire 800 external drive?
I think that a second internal drive would be faster than an external Firewire drive. However, a Thunderbolt drive is said to be very fast, but I do not know whether it would be faster than a conventional internal drive. This question would best be asked of the Final Cut Discussion Groups because thay might have experience.
i would love some specs, and input on different drive setups for an imac with a single 2TB Hard dirve.
Again, the discussion groups would be the best place to answer this.
    enyone. thanks,
Rendering long sections of video in the Final Cut software does take a long time, especially when it is imported from another source, such as a .mov, and when something simple like a transition is inserted or even moved or altered, or a filter is applied, rendering must be carried out in that area to see the effect properly. So you are on the right lines in thinking about how to speed it up.
