IMac G5 (1.8 Ghz) Shuts down after being put to sleep

My G5 shuts down immediately after being put to sleep and shortly after falling into sleep mode automatically. I have reset the SMU to no avail. I have also reset the Energy Saver preferences to the default setting.I didn't have this problem prior to installing OS 10.4.11. Any suggestions?

  • My computer shuts down after being unplugged

My powerbook G4 sometimes shuts down when I unplug it, even though the battery is fully charged. This seems to happen more often when I unplug it and then pick it up (or put it down). After I restart it, the clock and date have been reset to 1970.
Any ideas of what may be wrong?

    Hi c,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
How long does your PB run on the batt when it does not shut down after removing the power adapter? If a very short time, you may have a nearly dead batt, and the backup batt, even if it is still operational, only lasts a few minutes; once that is dead too, then date and time are reset.
I should have said this first, but just noticed that you said movement seems to cause the issue. That strongly suggests a loose battery. The "fix" can be as simple as wedging a thin piece of rubbery material between the battery compartment and the battery itself, on the side opposite the contacts, to make the contacts remain in contact at all times (earlier models had this issue, but it was supposedly fixed on later models, yet we still hear about it periodically).

  • My Macbook Pro (early 2011, 15") randomly shuts down after being turned on from sleep mode?

-So over the past week, I find that my macbook pro will randomly shut down within 1 minute of being turned on from sleep mode. Within the first few days of this, I figured out that it will only happen if I move my mac around before its completely into sleep mode. BUT now it shuts down regardless or preparation before sleep mode and everytime I turn my computer back on, I log in, and then have restore my chrome window tabs and stuff. What is going on??
-Do I need to replace my drive??
    *PLEASE help me, thanks!
    P.S. - I am runnng OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5

    austine38,
if you boot into Safe mode, and then immediately restart into normal mode, log in, and put it to sleep, does it still exhibit the same random shutdowns afterwards?

  • Computer Shuts Down After Being Powered On

    Hi All,
I have an iMac G5 right now that has a bit of a problem. I am able to turn on the computer, let it POST, and login. All is good through there. However, after using the computer for about 10-15 minutes, it all of a sudden shuts down. When I turn it back on, I am given no problems what so ever, and the mac acts like nothing ever happened. However, it will have the same problem again.
Any suggestions on what could be wrong, and if a part needs to be ordered, what part?
    Thanks =)

Welcome to Discussions - Depending on the model you may be eligible for Apple's Repair extension programs, since your computer is displaying power supply problems. It could also be another type of thermal problem, but check the repair program first.

  • Shuts down after coming out of sleep mode

When my imac comes out of sleep mode it keeps shutting down and does a restart.

On restart, are you getting any error messages?
I would test this issue in safe mode and then reset the smc as well

  • G5 Shuts down after I put it to Sleep

Why is my G5 suddenly shutting down all the time when I put it to sleep .... I come back to use it and I have to power it up each time ?

To log a sequence of events:
Open the Console application, located in Applications/Utilities.
    Click Logs in the toolbar.
Click the triangle next to a log to see more available logs.
Select the appropriate log and click Clear.
Perform the actions that produced the problem you are troubleshooting.
Read the messages that appear in the Console window.
Hello .... I can't seem to find where to " Search " and enter " Shut Down " .... I have opened Console and and able to open the triangles on many things ... This is one of them ... is this the correct one below ?
ALSO - about 4 - 5 years approx. after the warranty expired I had a problem with the power supply and Apple Canada replaced it and the Mother Board free of charge $ 1300.00 would have been the cost there abouts ... Does this mean the same thing is happening again ??? I doubt if I have the info and the paperwork for that repair ( dumb me, I wish I did now ) .... Is there a way for me to find that info with my serial number ?
If so - do you know why it would happen again and if so , is Apple still prepared to stand behind their product once again ?
Thanks Much for you Help .... is the " below " does not show you what you asked me to find ... what are the steps I should do for you ... ?

  • IPhone 5s shuts down after being in the cold for a while

I have an iPhone 5s.  I go outside jogging at noon and listen to the radio on the phone app.  Since it is cold outside, it has happened several times that after about 20 minutes I come back into the building and take out and check my phone it shuts down by itself.  If I try to restart, it will tell me the battery is low and need recharge.  I will have to wait for a couple of minutes before I could restart.  First couple of times, the battery was low, close to 10%.  Today it happened again.  When I restarted eventually, it showed over 60% battery life left.  Has anyone else had similar issues?  The warrenty just expired.  What is my option?

  • Imac keeps waking up immediately after being put to sleep

    hi
firstly, apologies if this question has already been answered elsewhere in the community
i bought an imac in june of this year (running most up-to-date version of mountain lion), and normally when i leave it, i put it to sleep instead of shutting down
have had no issues in doing this until last night.. now, as soon as i put it to sleep, it goes into sleep mode and then instantly wakes itself up again
i have checked the battery on the mouse and the keyboard (98% and 100% respectively)
i have nothing plugged into any usb ports
any ideas on why it keeps waking up by itself and how to resolve this issue?
    thanks

    hello
    thanks for your reply
i am new to apple products and to the community, and having read the community etiquette i apologise for not referring to the 'more like this' section before i posted - lesson learned
in respect of your advice, i checked the energy saver options as you suggested and the 'wake for network access' option was unchecked
interestingly, i have never had this issue until last night and i have made no system changes, downloaded or updated anything?
still a bit confused, will read through the 'more like this' posts and see if my answer lurks there somewhere
    thanks again

  • MBP Shuts down immediately when put to sleep

    Hi all,
When I either close the lid on my MacBook Pro or put it into sleep mode, or let it go into sleep mode on its own [overnight], it will shut down immediately with no warning. I've searched high and low to solutions to this problem. I've reset the SMC, no luck.
    Help?
    Matt

    Hi Matt
Does it shut down so you have to boot from nothing, or does it show the last screen from before sleeping, in a greyed-out fashion? Your machine might be going into deep sleep and not just a nap.

  • Problem with turning macbook pro on after being put to sleep

My macbook pro is acting strange, if i put it to sleep after 50% battery and turn it on again i get a grey screen, then it turns off. if i use the power button again it boots up and tell me that the time and date is not accurate then it turns off again.

    Try a SMC reset
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • MacBook logs out after being put to sleep.

In detail: having previously closed my macbook mid work, and gone off to do something else, I reopen it to be greeted with the black screen and "to access this computer..." dialogue as normal. I type in my password, hit enter, get a brief blue screen (of the apple variety) and then am confronted with the log in page, and myself logged out.
This only happens occasionally, but is very frustrating - as any unsaved work is lost and any normal "save?" dialogues appear to have been ignored.
My macbook is set to sleep when I close the lid, and has no timer set to log out.
Any ideas on why this is happening?
    Thanks in advance.

    Try a SMC reset
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.

  • MBP wakes up after being put to sleep

Several times the MBP wakes up after it was put to sleep, the battery runs down and it overheats inside the bag. I don't have any idea what wakes the computer, could it be the motion sensor? What can be done?

My wife's MBP started doing this after upgrading to Snow Leopard. So, after six weeks of hearing her complain of it when she forgot to close the lid, (I realize it still wakes up with the lid down, but since she only unplugs it when she uses it, that hasn't been an issue.) she finally let me look at it. I found using her System Monitor that the active app was Dashboard. When I told her, she said "I haven't run that for months, that couldn't be it." But, persisting, I opened Dashboard to find that she had a clock that kept local time. With her permission, I killed the clock and her MBP hasn't woken up on it's own since.
So, try running System Monitor to find out what's running after it wakes up.

  • T61 resuming after being put to sleep

Almost every time i put my comp to sleep it wakes up, sometimes immediately and sometimes after some time.
I only put to sleep using Fn F4 because worried it will resume with lid closed.
Any ideas on a setting I could change or maybe a program waking it up?

    Hello,
Could there be a program running in the background which periodically checks for updated content, such as an RSS reader or anti-malware program?  If so, does disabling it before the sleep operation make any difference?

  • IMac stuck on start up - Shuts down after progress bar complete

My iMac starts up, and immediately goes to a white screen with the apple logo and a progress bar starts.  The progress bar fills up and then the computer turns off.  My roommmate last used my computer and couldn't find the power button. He indicated to me he had to pull the monitor out far to find it. Could the connection to the back of the monitor have something to do with this problem?

    No.
Try a SMC and PRAM reset, do each about 3 times. However before doing this ensure the power cable is firmly plugged into the back of the iMac and to the plug. If you have not done these resets before  please click the link below for instructions.
