IMac G5 24" NO INTERNET contacted Apple

Hi all,
I have just got a new IMac G5 using 10.5.2as a wedding Present and set it up etc. Connected to my wireless network ADDON GWAR3000. Found it no problem. GREAT! But it said it ws connected with a Self-assigned IP address. Clicked Safari... No internet. As per a lot people here i think there is a common problem with Lepoard and Connecting to a wireless Network.
I have a G4 Graphite which is on 10.4.11 and uses tge same wireless network. No problems at all. But now using this as a Target Diskmode for my IMac.
I contacted Apple today to try and get something resloved. Went through the usual tick boxes to try and slove the problem. Finally i was told to use the install disks to Format and re-install the software.
This has now been done and guess what.... it didn't work so still no internet. I have been given a case number and a person to contact. So my case is kind of being dealt with.
Can anyone else help at all with Lepoard and connecting to the internet?
PLEASE ANYONE SOMEBODY HELP US ALL GET ON THE NET USING THIS SPOTTED CAT OPERATING SYSTEM

Almost certainly misconfigured networking.
Click on Apple Menu/ System Preferences/ Network.
To the left you will see a window showing all your potential connection resources and below 3 buttons +/- and what can only be called a cogwheel.
If you are not going to need ethernet/bluetooth or fire wire highlight each in turn and hit the minus button to delete them (they can be restored if necessary). I would however leave the ethernet and of cause your airport in the panel.
If the airport is the lowest of these in the panel you need to move it to the top.
Now heres an anomaly for some reason Apple have abandoned direct drag and drop ! You have to click on the cogwheel and choose Set Service Order. A new window opens and you CAN drag and drop in this to change order (MOST UN APPLE imo) Place Airport to the top and click okay.
If you have limited connection their will be a yellow spot to the left of Airport in the window, Red no connection or Green for full connection.
The name of the network should be shown in the pull down menu in the centre of the main window.
Right now for some settings. I suspect that your router should be supplying the IP addresses on the network ( This is normal= The router can randomly assign addresses or be set up to assign static addresses if you want).
If your computer is assigning a self assigned address the router is NOT in-charge so won't pass you any information simple as that !
Right now click on the advanced button in the lower right of the main window and click on TCP/IP button( second button along) in the new window.
There are two pull down menus you can change here.
The top one Configure IPv4 is the most important and where I believe your problem lies.
You need to turn off your computers ability to give itself an IP address . In this top button i suspect it is currently saying manual or even off. You need to change this to using DHCP thereby passing the responsibility for Ip address allocation back to the router.
For the second menu for IPv6 leave as automatic.
Now click on the renew DHCP lease button and if all is well the router will find and give you an IP address.
Click the Okay button and you return to the main Network panel the spot to the left of Airport should now be green - Good to go!
You should now have full access however if not then the router will also need configuring as it MAY have MAC address filtering or other security enabled.
If this is the case you will have to reconfigure the router as well to add your computer to the accepted list on the router.
If this is the case come back here and i'll try to help.
Regards
Keith

Apple has announced that Mid 2011 iMacs have a defective ATI GPU and they are being repaired for free. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5167?viewlocale=en_US
Simply take the iMac to an Apple Store or reseller. Make a backup of your data before taking it in

A misleading and malicious popup. Launch Safari with the Shift key held down; if that doesn't work, temporarily disconnect the computer from the Internet.

I have an iMac for work and I am leaving the company. How do I clear the computer so that my soon to be former company is unable to see my personal information Ie. - internet, contacts, etc...

Follow these instructions step by step to prepare a Mac for sale:
Step One - Back up your data:
           A. If you have any Virtual PCs shut them down. They cannot be in their "fast saved" state. They must be shut down from inside Windows.
           B. Clone to an external drive using using Carbon Copy Cloner.
              1. Open Carbon Copy Cloner.
              2. Select the Source volume from the Select a source drop down menu on the left side.
              3. Select the Destination volume from the Select a destination drop down menu on the right
                  side.
              4. Click on the Clone button. If you are prompted about creating a clone of the Recovery HD be
                  sure to opt for that.
Destination means a freshly erased external backup drive. Source means the internal
                   startup drive.
Step Two - Prepare the machine for the new buyer:
              1. De-authorize the computer in iTunes! De-authorize both iTunes and Audible accounts.
2, Remove any Open Firmware passwords or Firmware passwords.
              3. Turn the brightness full up and volume nearly so.
              4. Turn off File Vault, if enabled.
              5. Disable iCloud, if enabled: See.What to do with iCloud before selling your computer
Step Three - Install a fresh OS:
         A. Snow Leopard and earlier versions of OS X
              1. Insert the original OS X install CD/DVD that came with your computer.
              2. Restart the computer while holding down the C key to boot from the CD/DVD.
              3. Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu; repartition and reformat the internal hard drive.
Optionally, click on the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              4. Install OS X.
              5. Upon completion DO NOT restart the computer.
              6. Shutdown the computer.
         B. Lion and Mountain Lion (if pre-installed on the computer at purchase*)
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because
it is three times faster than wireless.
              1. Restart the computer while holding down the COMMAND and R keys until the Mac OS X
                  Utilities window appears.
              2. Select Disk Utility from the Mac OS X Utilities window and click on the Continue button.
              3. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click
on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
              4. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on the Security button
and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              5. Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
              6. Quit DU and return to the Mac OS X Utilities window.
              7. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
              8. Upon completion shutdown the computer.
*If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you purchased Lion or Mountain Lion from the App Store then you cannot transfer your license to another party. In the case of the latter you should install the original version of OS X that came with your computer. You need to repartition the hard drive as well as reformat it; this will assure that the Recovery HD partition is removed. See Step Three above. You may verify these requirements by reviewing your OS X Software License.

    Thank you in advance

By contact Apple they mean AppleCare over the phone. This is the user forums, so no one from Apple will be able to assist you. AppleCare's phone number is (800)-APL-CARE (800-275-2273) for the United States.

An error occurred while contacting the radio tuning service. Check your Internet connection, or try again later.
Can't find a way to fix this. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Yeaaaah... I just powered up my G3 iMac... iTunes 7 on there... My iTunes on there can't do much. But it's still subscribed to one podcast that's still valid and working. If I try to use the radio, I get this message. I wager they changed urls and the like in the background years ago and this is just so old there's no longer any support for it.

  • Hello. can someone help me fix my little crises. new apple imac new prepaid broadless internet. wifi is on but it cant find a network???? pls help. brand new and i havent seen it yet :/

my wifi's internet has no network.

This is the iPad forum. The Imac forum is here: https://discussions.apple.com/community/desktop_computers/imac_intel
Your post will likely be moved there shortly.
Anyway, you need to give them some information:
What type of device is providing the internet.  Type, make and Model.
Can the iMac see any other wireless networks?

  • HT5699 I contacted apple to get my security questions reset, but I didn't have a way to log on to my account at the time, so she gave me a nine digit pin and told me to use it when I got access to the internet. Where do I use this pin?

The nine-digit number is likely a case reference to speed up a new attempt to Contact Apple Support.

  • Apple TV connectivity with network suddenly stopped; reset twice; laptop and desktop access internet fine; Apple TV box bad?

Our Apple TV has worked fine with our Wi-Fi network for about a year.  Connectivity suddenly stopped.  I have reset it twice but it is still unable to connect to the internet using my Wi-Fi name and password.  Both our iMac and Macbook are accessing the network without issues.  Is our Apple TV box bad?

    Hello Heypaddles,
As it says at the bottom of the article, please contact Apple Support if the troubleshooting in the article didn't resolve the issue:
If you tried all of these steps and your Wi-Fi issues persist, contact Apple technical support or take your Apple TV to the nearest Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for diagnosis. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).
Note: Diagnostic fees may apply for issues not covered under warranty or the AppleCare Protection Plan (APP).

  • Possible to get iMac repaired without going to the apple store?

i recently purchased a 24" imac and called apple to request a repair due to a stuck pixel in the middle of my screen, very distracting, and i got a case number but was told that i need to take it to an apple store to have it looked at first and then the store would send it out to apple. not a big deal except for the fact that the closest apple store is nearly a hour away. so my question is, has anyone been successful in getting a prepaid box sent to their house for a non-portable instead of having to drive it to the apple store first? Thanks
    Ty

Could the apple store still decide differently?
They could, yes, once they examine the situation. A tech on the phone can only guess based on your description, so the tech at the store may come up with a different determination once he/she sees the system.
Also, there are also some "authorized service centers" that come up when i do a search on apples website... should i try one of those or just stick with the apple store?
Whether the case you've opened will authorize a service center to go ahead and replace the screen, or whether they'd be required to consult with Apple, I don't know. My guess is that the latter case is the one that would be correct; that the service center would have to examine the system and then contact Apple to see if Apple would authorize replacement of the screen. And as I said, it's very unusual for Apple (or any other manufacturer) to replace a screen for a single bad pixel.
So it's your call. If there's a service center near you and you want to try them, it might be worth the time, at least to call them and discuss the situation and see what they think.

  • Data in my iMac address book and iCloud contacts do not match.

The data in my iMac address book and iCloud contacts are different. How can I get my iCloud data to accruately reflect that of my iMac address book? It appears to be an initial synchronization issue. New entries synchronize fine. Appears that initial entries in my Address Book are not showing up in the iCloud Contacts list. Hense, My iPhone coantacts don't match those in my iMac.
Is there a way to clean out my iCloud contacts on reload/re-sychronize it with my iMac Address Book?

Nuts isn't it. This seems to have been an issue snce dAY 1.  iT FROSTS ME THAT THERE IS NO SIMPLE QUICK WAY TO UPDATE OR CORRECT the data in both programs simultaneously.. Thats why i decided to just put everytning into the i cloud address brook, and let the one other sit and rot.
then i got smart and said, why don't I delete the outlookaddress book files. and save on confusion.
result - both addresses books  and their contents became invisible to outlook.!!!!!! and I can find no way to correct this...to go back to the imperfect world that was.
I did get the outlook contact s back from an archive - but any thing from icloud has become inaccessible from outlook.  (fortunately i can get the vcard infformation directly from icloud. but I can't access it from outlook mail.... means no replying, forwarding etc - and a time swallowing nuisance..

The Apple TV (with the exception of the Apple TV 1) does not sync, it streams everything from your library on your computer or from the internet.
