IMac G5 Ambient Light display BLACK  but this is diffrent.

Hi all,
I have interesting problem with my iMac which is hard to explain but ill try.
So far i have failed to find a solution for this.
We all know that Black screens is a big iMac problem but mine is slightly diffrent. so here goes maybe you guys can help.
My iMac G5 Ambient Light would run well for days even for months as long as i dont turn the machine off.
if i try to reboot:
-No Startup chime,
-Harddisk starts, runs then waits.
-30 sec later Fans blow at full speed.
Diagnoses:
LED 1 on, LED 2 on, LED 3 off LED 4 off
my iMac does not get passed LED 2...
So we have power in the system just the display is not communicating and there is no overheating problem.
The Wierd Bit:
This is very random but if i play with the iMac, trying to start it up sometimes it takes 20x pressing the on off switch in the back and sometimes 2 times and sometimes even trying for days. All of a sudden Presto the **** thing works again. So then i dont reboot for a couple of months scared it will not restart. At that moment everything works fine again with no problems.
LED 1 ON LED 2 ON LED 3 ON LED 4 OFF systems normal
Untill the moment i have to reboot again. once again black screen and i startup the procedure again. Done all the usuall stuff reset PRAM, VRAM, PMU nothing will work. Then playing with it ON / OFF, ON / OFF, ON / OFF, and Bang it goes again. Works fine for Days and months till i have to reboot the thing again or shut it off. The other wierd thing is its also not after every reboot. sometimes it would reboot fine and with the Startup chime. so the problem is very random and i cant seem to put my finger on the problem.
What i know:
-HardDisk is running fine (checked). no problems there,
-MEM is good (checked)
-LED indications when running normal LED 1 LED 2 LED 3 are on and LED 4 is off as it should be.
-Firmware is uptodate, version OSX uptodate. Cooling fans run sweet and clean when the iMac works.
- Serie Number falls out side of the Repair Service Recall that Apple had annouced.
Everything seems to work as it should when iMac runs!!
So today it happend again i needed to move my iMac today so i turned it off moved it. Then wanted to turn it on again and there it was a black screen no chime and fans blowing. So now i have to play with it again to get it on again and working again.
Sorry for my Message to be so long but its the only way to give you guys a good clear picture of the problem im having.
Hope you guys can help..
iMac G5 (Ambient Light)   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1 Gig Ram

As should be obvious by now, your problem is caused by using a model-specific grey installer disk with another Mac model. Not only will it cause technical problems because is it not designed for this purpose, it is a violation of the license that comes with the Mac to use its disks to install the OS or other included software on another Mac.
You must obtain a retail copy of Leopard to install that OS on your iMac G5. You must have a license for each Mac you install it on, either the license that comes with that OS pre-installed on a Mac or the one that comes with the retail copy of the DVD.*
Also note that the grey disks for each Mac you own should be retained, as they include installers for the bundled software that comes with it & a model-specific Apple Hardware Test ("AHT") that must be run from that disk. You cannot easily duplicate the grey disks, in part because the AHT partition is not a conventional boot volume & a disk image file of the entire DVD must be written in a specific way to the duplicate to work like the original.
However, even if you manage to do this, the duplicate still cannot be used with another model, so the only reason to make a duplicate of a grey disk is as a backup for the original.
\* A site license or bulk license also meets this requirement, but you still must obtain a suitable installer disk.

    Hello @DesCherryBomb,
I understand that you are having issues with your HP 2310m monitor going blank and/or flickering. I am providing you with some steps you can try below:
Step 1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the monitor and the wall
Step 2. Hold the power button down for at least one minute
Step 3. Plug the power cord back into the monitor and then into the wall outlet (not a power bar or surge protector)
Step 4. Press the Menu button on the monitor
Step 5. Navigate to the Factory Reset option and select it
If the above steps did not resolve your issue you can try the monitor on a computer or other device to see if the issue persists. Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. • After we installed a new airport extreme, the imac running snow leopard displays black box msgs saying to hold down the power button and or the reset button and then restart your computer. Can anyone provide info that can help resolve this issue?

Experiencing similar issues on both imac and power book: after replacing an original airport extreme with a new airport extreme both computers display a black box msgs that reads: "...turn off your computer by holding down the power button and or the reset button for a few seconds and then restart your computer."...
one of the printers are usb'd to the imac. The printer is not "seeing" the imac nor will it print wireless from the powerbook which was the norm prior to the upgrade on the airport extreme.
Upon restart, the imac does not "see" the wireless keyboard or the mouse until it is "found" again.
At this time the imac or the powerbook can get on line.

It sounds like your computer is getting Kernel Panics. Please look at About "You need to restart your computer" (kernel panic) messages and if the message seen on your display is like the one in the link then you have confirmed you had a KP. KP's can be tough to track down because they can be caused by software or hardware. The first place to start is to post the complete crash log so we can look at it, often there are clues in the log. You can find it at:

  • IMac G5 (Ambient Light Sensor):Mac OS X cannot be instlled on this computer

I have 3 iMac G5's identical specs. They will not install OS X 10.5, but they ran 10.4.11 just fine.
    Specs: iMac G5 PowerMac8,2
    CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (3.0)
    CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz
    Memory: 1 GB 2x 512MB PC 3200U-30300
    DVD+R (dual layer) 5x read
    - DVD±RW 5x read
    - DVD±R 6x read
    - DVD-ROM 8x read
This fits into the spec required to install OS X 10.5. However, when I attempt to boot from the install disk, erase local disk, erase and format disk using the disk utility, Mac OS extended, Apple Partition Map. I receive message Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer. At one time I received a message Kernel Panic CPU 0 driver cannot be found for this computer.
I also attempted to install from external DVD±RW DL (non super drive) boots, loads the installer, then same error message. If you need more information ask? Any insight would be appreciated.

As should be obvious by now, your problem is caused by using a model-specific grey installer disk with another Mac model. Not only will it cause technical problems because is it not designed for this purpose, it is a violation of the license that comes with the Mac to use its disks to install the OS or other included software on another Mac.

  • Dvd media for the ambient light imac g5 model  number  M9844LL/A ?

    INFO:
my daughter is a school teacher and in august 2005 I got her a new imac g5 ambient light 17” 2.0 ghz machine. this is the last imac g5 model before the isight model was introduced. her machine is model number M9844LL/A. she runs os 10.4.3. and ilife '05.
    QUESTION :
WHAT DVD MEDIA CAN SHE SAFELY USE ? in particular can she use the new double sided media? if so what designation. also what conventional one sided media can she use, including designation, e.g. dvd-r @ 8x .
    imac g5 model number M9844LL/A   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Hopefully someone will answer your question, but you posted your question in the Intel Mac Forum. A G5 question should be posted in the Power PC Forum. If no one answers, I would repost your question there.

  • Adjusting camera for ambient light

I have a streaming video application for mobile devices developed using Air/Flex. Here is the situation:
    1) Starting outdoors, outdoor video looks fine
    2) Starting indoors, indoor video looks fine
    But
    3) Starting outdoors, indoor video is very dark. Likewise starting indoors, outdoor video is washed out.
The camera is capable of adjusting for the ambient light at startup, but does not seem to be able to correct for changes while it is streaming.
The camera documentation http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/media/Camera.html does not seem to provide any means of readjusting. Is there a way to readjust without restarting the camera?

    Hey Leonard1928
The easy way to tell if your ambient light sensor is broken is by covering up the top half of your E6-01 and make sure in your settings that your screen brightness is set to adjust to ambient light.
The screen should get darker when you cover up the sensor and lighter when you take your hand off. If it is not doing this then your light sensor is broken.

  • C4650 Will only print black from the internet. MS Word and PS will not print in black but has color.

Before you think I just haven't tried anything, let me run you down with the whole lot:
    -HP PhotoSmart C4650
    -Windows Vista
-Problem: My printer won't print in black --but-- this only goes for Microsoft applications it seems. If I have a page of text in black, when printing from MS Word, the page comes out blank, however the printer is actually "printing" back and forth. IF, however I print from my browser, from email, or a webpage, picture, google docs, etc, black prints *just fine.* So far this holds true for both MS Word and PhotoShop CS5. Issue: Black ink simply doesn't print from any program other than a browser.
-NO. The cartridge isn't empty. NO. It's not incompatible. NO. The cartridge head isn't dry and I am not going to soak it in water. This is a new cartridge. It's the official HP brand.
I've done a search and I've found that a few people seem to have this "only print from the internet" problem, however none of these was solved. The only advice that an HP support member gave to one of them is to "install XP service pack 2" however.. I am not running XP. A few other people get the opposite issue where they can only print color from the internet and not from the computer's applications.
I don't know much about printers but it sounds like some kind of driver issue. Yes. I've already searched for, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. Whenever I have to print something, I now try to open it up in my firefox just so I can be able to print black. It's quite the hassle. Almost seems like some kind of ploy to cause people to buy new ink cartridges when it's not really empty.
-Yes, I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the printer.
-Updated my windows (although idk how that would help. But I know it's going to be a suggestion anyway.)
Is there any known fix or should i chuck it off the balcony and go get a lexmark?

  • IMac display black when memory added

My iMac had two 1gig sticks of memory. When Lion installed, I needed 4 gigs.
When I put one 2 gig stick in (meaning I have 3 gigs total now), display works fine. When I add the second 2 gig stick and turn iMac on, computer is on, but display is black. I have interchanged the new memory sticks by themselves in the imac to make sure they are both fine, which they are.
Soooooo......when I have either one of the new 2 gig sticks in (either memory stick--they both work properly), the display works, but when both 2 gig sticks are in, the display is black.
My model (late 2007) indicates computer will take 4 gigs total.
    Please help!!!

Try resetting the SMC and pram/nvram
    To reset the SMC
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
    To reset the pram/nvram
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • How can I get my iMac to not go to sleep, but also black out the screen?

I want to leave my iMac on during the night, however when I sleep the display it ends up (after a couple of hours) completely going to sleep and an AppleScript won't work. Is there a way to make the screen go black but keep the computer on?
I've got energy savers preferences to never sleep the computer and never put the hard drives to sleep, and when I press control + option + eject I sleep the screen, but AppleScript's won't work...

You can just set a hot corner to black the screen and it won't go to sleep.
Ensure the sleep slider is at never.
Go to System Preferences, and click "Exposé & Spaces"
Go to the "Exposé" Tab, you will see "Active Screen Corners"
Change one to "Sleep Display" So when you put your cursor to the corner and leave it there (don't touch it or it will come back to a normal screen) it will be black but won't sleep!
This is what I have set on my iMac, hope it helps! It's my first answer post

  • IMac 24" Intel Core 2 black display on boot after update to 10.6.7

    Help!
After updating software to 10.6.7, my iMac won't display anything but a black screen after booting, the system seems to be working because you can figure out that the list of users is there to start up (keyboard & sounds) but no display. Things I have already tried: Reset PRAM and SMC and nothing. It's black.
I will appreciate any kind of help.

  • Why does my screen display automatically brighten when I have completely dimmed it, when I am about to go to bed in a dark room with no ambient light?

This is an issue that has been driving me crazy! When I get ready to go to bed I have iTunes running and I manually dim the screen all the way so it is black. For some reason in the last couple of months the screen has automatically brightened for no apparent reason. I have read lots of forums about the screen going dim at unwanted times, but never anything about a dim screen that automatically brightens. I have played around with different positions of the screen to see if ambient light was causing the problem, but it still happens regardless of where it is. I am not touching the computer so it isn't affected by a function or program it is trying to run. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I hate when I feel like my computer is smarter than me

Um... yes. It was, and is.
Verizon says my phone is free and clear and has been taken completely out of their system.
Whoever told you that doesn't know what they are talking about.
A Verizon iPhone 4S can not be unlocked for use on any US carrier. It can only be used on Verizon in the US. If you want to use a carrier other than Verizon, you will have to buy a new phone.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • I dropped my iphone, it cracked (it alredy had some cracks in it) and the screen is black but sometimes has a background light.. When i plug it in to charge or to the computer it vibrates every 10 seconds and itunes does not recognize it. What can I do?

I dropped my iphone 4 pretty hard, it cracked (although it already had a few cracks in it) and now the screen is black but sometimes has a background light turn on and then off. Holding the home button and off button at the same time do not work. When I plug it in to charge or to the computer it vibrates every 10 seconds and itunes does not seem to recognize it. It gets really really hot when plugged in (which I don't think is normal).  icloud does not recognize it under "find my iphone" either. What could the problem be? I am wondering if dropping it dislodged something inside. if so, what did I dislodge and is it possible to fix this myself?
    Thanks

Sounds like that drop was a critical one, my friend. I would make an appointment at your nearest Apple Retail Store, because you're going to need a replacement. Also as a side note: the reason that the charger is making the phone vibrate over and over is because there is a disconnect somewhere in the charge port of the phone, causing it to plug in and out over and over.
