IMac G5 cannot file share with Powerbook G4

Howdy.
Just got a refurb iMac G5 20".
I can connect to the internet (wireless) and can file share with my PowerMac G4.
My PowerMac G4 can file share with the iMac as well as my PowerBook G4.
The PowerBook G4 can file share with the PowerMac G4.
The iMac and PowerBook cannot file share with each other. I've tried everything I've known and read to do in the Network and Sharing sections on both computers. Still nothing.
I will add that I have to manually type in the Server Address for the iMac to connect to the PowerMac as well for the PowerMac to connect to the iMac.
iMac running 10.4.
PowerMac and PowerBook running 10.3.9.
Thanks for any help.

£1200 !!!

  • How can I file share with another person if both of us are using Mac operating systems?  Do we need to use a third party file sharing system or does apple have this capability?

How can I file share with another personif both of us are using Mac operating systems (one of us using a Mac laptop and the other using iMac).  Our intention is to have a working document that can be changed by both parties over time and both parties will have visibility to the others changes.

    Use SugarSync

  • IMac file share with an Imerge s3000 server.

I cannot get ny mac to connect with an Imerge s3000 music server.  I can operate the system through the mac using the TV interface but I cannot share files.  The server is recognised by the mac on the network but each time I try to access the files it reports connection failed.  I need to access the files for backup and storing downloaded music.  I have followed all the instrctions but all goes well until the last step of opening the files.

    Hi,
    Thank you for your reply.
I have followed the same process. The credentials which I have given are same as my PC. But I am getting the same error. Can you please clarify the statement "Service
account that is using for file share subscription should have write access to shared folder."
    given in the above link?
I am the one who created the folder and subscribing the report, so probably I have the full write permissions to the shared folder. What is the service account in this context?
I think the problem is, I am deploying the report on the server and creating the shared folder in the local machine. I tried giving shared folder permissions to the user on the server. But my local machine is in local domain and I cant access the users on
the remote server. Do I need to create a shared folder on the server? I am new to SSRS. Please help me.
PS: I have assigned with all roles viz. Browser, Content Manager, Publisher, Report Builder etc. and My Role name (WEBSERVER\User)
is different from my local user name (domain\username) in domain.

  • Cannot file share between MacBook Pro and iMac, but can Screen Share fine.

    Hi all,
Very strange problem going at the minute!
I can Screen Share both ways (iMac - MBP and MBP - iMac) just fine but can't seem to File Share between either computer. They are both on the same network and both have the exact same settings under SysPrefs. I can see both devices in a Finder window and can click the 'Connect As...' button, but once I've put in my credentials, the message in the Finder window changes from 'Connecting...' to 'Connection Failed' in a matter of seconds.
Both have AFP switched on and neither has the Firewall enabled. I also cannot FTP between either computer via 'Connect to Server...', but I can utilise iTunes Home Sharing perfectly.
I've tried pretty much everything I can find on the WWW, but nothing's worked! Help!
    Thanks!

    Hi, thanks for your help!
I think I've solved the problem now (at long last!).
Somehow, my sharing permissions on my Home folder on either computer won't allow me access. I've tried repairing permissions multiple times, but to no avail.
I've solved the problem by sharing my Macintosh HD, rather than my individual Home folder and I can access everything as normal now.

  • Cannot File share or connect to server through VPN.

I used to connect to my work server through VPN. During September through December of last year, I had no problem connecting to the server, but I could never file share. A few weeks ago I tried connecting again but I can't. The VPN connection is fine, and there's no problem with the server, but I can't connect to it. I'm pretty sure I haven't changed any of my network settings.
    Any Ideas??

Just thought I would give this a bump. I recently transferred over to a new computer (I did not import/migrate settings, I reentered them. No longer can I VPN into work. Running 10.5.7 I have entered in the correct DNS settings and the domain. No errors, it says I am connected but I cannot contact any servers or file share. Any thoughts?

  • Can video chat with Imac non-intel but not with Powerbooks

    Hi,
I have a Linksys WRT54G firmware v. 1.0.6 connected to a Comcast Cable modem. My IMac Intel Duo (OS 10.4.6) is connected via ethernet cable to the router. I am set to DHCP on router and IMac. My Quicktime settings is at 1.5mb, I have tried with firewall off and on with the appropriate ports open. I have tried upnp on and off.
I can connect to other Imacs (non-intel) but not to powerbook G4's. With the Powerbooks I can text chat, but sometimes they can see my text, but I can't see theirs. And every video chat is a fail to respond with the powerbook, but they can connect with others.
Is there anything else I can do?
    Please help. Thanks.

    Hi cmbell,
Do you know how to access your modem ?
This should give you somewhere to turn off DHCP.
Then you go to System Preferences > Network and select the connection method you are using.
    Then select the TCP/IP tab.
In the drop down that says Using DHCP change it to Manually. (or Manual with DHCP if doing James' way)
Type the IP you wish to use in the next entry field.
Copy the subnet mask form the Using DHCP
    Copy any DNS servers listed.
Copy the router IP address which will be the modem or router in question.
    Hit Apply.
    Done.

  • Index file share with pictures - how to get the "Tag" property as refiner?

    Hi,
I'm indexing a folder in file share and in the windows explorer view i gave values to the "Tags" property.
Now i want to set it as refiner in search results. I see that SharePoint gets the properties of: file name, size, picture height, picture width, author... how to get also the properties of Tags? and Dimensions?
    keren tsur

    Hi keren,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to add some refiners based on pictures’ properties in SharePoint 2013 Search.
Firstly, do a full crawl for the content cource.
For the ‘Tags’ refiner, go to the results page, click on edit page and edit the refiners web part, then choose the Choose Refiners picker. Now add the TAGS field to the right hand column.
More information, please refer to the link:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/23690.sharepoint-metadata-tag-refiners-not-displaying-in-sharepoint-2013office-365-search.aspx
SharePoint indexes an item based on list/library columns. However, for the Dimensions property of pictures, SharePoint library cannot retrieve the property from pictures . So when crawling, the property cannot be crawed as a crawled property, you are not
able to add it as a refiner in Search. When you use Picture Library, there are Picture Size, Picture Width and Height columns, you can create refiners based on these three columns. You can check them in Crawled properties(CA->Search Service Application->Seach
    Schema).
    I hope this helps.
    Thanks,

  • Imac G5 - Emac File Share ideas needed

Hi. We have an emac (runs OS x 10.4.3) which connects to internet via an airport wireless network already setup at home.
We recently purchased a new Imac G5 and now I want to let the Imac users see and share the iTunes, iPhoto etc files that are already on the emac.
I read some forums entries using a 'file sharing' search and found some ideas like: put files under the user everyone logs in as on the emac into 'shared' instead of the personal folder currently used (my username logged into by everyone on emac). Not sure this will be entirely enough?
Is it possible to have iPhoto and iTunes point to 2 libraies? the Local one (imac) and a shared location over a wireless airport (the emac)? This is ideally what we want) If I want to make the imac the 'system of records' or the keeper of all content then the scenario is the same but the emac becomes a slave of the imac for files essentially.
    Thanks much for any insights
    Kaufmann family

You can share your iTunes library over a wired or wireless network by turning on sharing in iTunes preferences. Look in iTunes support (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/) for more details on how to do it. Not sure about iPhoto, however.

  • Unable to access server files shares with Active Directory Users

    Quick breakdown of my issue.
I have setup a Yosemite file server running the latest version of Yosemite and Server.
File sharing in Server.app is enabled and shares have been created
The server is bound to my company's Active Directory and you can directly login to the computer via AD credentials.
The big issue is this, unless the user has directly walked up to my server and logged into it at least once, they cannot authenticate to the file shares via their AD credentials.
For example: Administrator (me) I can login and access all file shares without issue.
Jane Smith (SMITH) who has actually walked up to my server and logged in via her AD credentials, can also access all file shares. (That she has access to)
John Doe (JDOE) who has not logged into the server in anyway, cannot authenticate to the server file shares  at all (even though I have granted him permission) He just gets an "Access Denied" message.
I have gone into Directory Utility and changed the search order to give AD priority and this still doesn't resolve the problem.
We have unbound the server from AD and added in back again and still not able to resolve.
If you open Server.app and go to add someone from AD to a file share, it finds the AD user quickly and everything looks right. but still unable to authenticate to the server if they haven't directly logged into it before?
All of the documentation and google articles I have found say my server is setup correctly, any help would be greatly appreciate it!
    Thanks in advance!

I figured this out. In Mountain Lion Server, it doesn't matter if you give the user rights to a shared file or folder, if the user doesn't have access the File Sharing service, they can't get it. I had to find the specific users in the Server app under the AD in the Users tab, and give them rights to the File Sharing service. I think you can do this for a whole AD group as well, but I haven't tried.

  • File share with my friends computer across the internet.

    Hello,
so my friend recently got a mac (changed from windows)
and i was wondering can i set up file sharing with him?
I have created an "Online HD" in my sharing folder, so how can he access it?
    thanks
    Aries

Yes, it is possible. To add to what others have said here, if you are connected to the internet via a router that implements NAT (network address translation), you have to configure the router to do "port forwarding", which means that connections that come into it on a certain port (AppleShare uses port 548) should be forwarded to your computer on the LAN (local network). The person on the connecting end supplies the IP address or host name for the router (not your Mac) to connect.
Caveats are, your ISP may change your IP address at will so you have to beware of that. They usually don't change very often. More importantly, though, you should keep in mind that it is a big bad world out there, and every listening port that you enable is a potential avenue for the bad guys to get in. AppleShare is pretty secure, but if you do set this up then I recommend you enable it when necessary. Disable File Sharing, or better yet, disable the NAT port forwarding for 548, when you aren't using it.
Another caveat is that your ISP may not allow setting up a server on some ports, or at all. If they block port 548 you can use a different one. If they block all ports then you're out of luck.

  • Can't file share with iMac from Windows XP-Pro laptop

New to the game, but can't get Windows laptop to recognize iMac DVD. Need to download program to laptop which doesn't have DVD reader, just CD. AppleCare has the iMac end up and running. Any ideas? THanks.

I have exactly the same problem. I have a WD 500GB External HD connected to Airport Extreme. The MacBook works fine, but I can't get Windows XP (an HP PC) to log on through Airport Disk. I still can't get Airport Disk Agent working, but I find a way to connect to the HD. Here is what I did:
    1. Checked my Nortel Firewall to make sure that my internal IP addresses are not blocked (10.0.1.1 to 10.0.1.200)
    2. Created a simple disk password (I tried different options with or without accounts, but this works best for me)
    3. Instead of using Airport Disk, I just go to Windows Explore, and map a network drive to \\10.0.1.1\My Book (put in the IP address of your Airport Extreme, and the name of your hard disk), then I type in my disk password (with no user account, and it works!!
If you can't log-in, may be you can try user account and see if it works better. And if you are like me having no idea what my harddisk name is, just type in \\10.0.1.1\ first and you should see your harddisk name.
Note that if you create user account, each account will have their own folder.
Hope it make sense to you. However I do hope Apple offer more guidelines and instructions on how to fix this soon. (Now if Apple can fix the VPN problem on another thread, then I'll be happy)
