IMac G5 (iSight) - My daughter can't make a video diary.

I bought a 17" iMac (iSight) to my daughter because you can record iSight (for video diary) and use it with 3:d party MSN. It looked good because if the web cam will work with iMovie it will work with the 3:d party MSN videoconference.
We found out a few hours ago that the built in iSight will not work with iMovie so I have finally got my daughter to sleep. Does anyone know if Apple will make this work or do I have to buy her a compatible computer?
She is only 11 and I can really understand her tears and her disappointment. I feel really guilty because I talked her into an iMac (iSight).
She thought the computer looked really good with just a tiny hole and no ugly camera, speakers or microphone.
Can anyone help a father in distress? Please! I have really let her down.

I am sorry to hear of your daughter's disappointment. I can appreciate your situation.
Unfortunately Apple decided to interface the built-in iSight through the USB ports instead of the FireWire ports.
iMovie, and most other Digital Video (DV) software expects the signal to come through the FireWire ports. This is where the regular iSight is interfaced.
There was a work around mentioned in another thread by "viper0066 "

"You can capture from the built-in iSight under the following conditions:
1. Plug-in a separate FW deck/cam, and power it up such that it's output is recognized and displayed in iMovie.
2. Power-off the deck/cam, or just unplug it.
Very shortly thereafter, iMovie should display the output from the built-in iSight, and iSight's green activity light should come on.
I found this out just today - quite by chance. Be a little careful, it's a temporary session. As soon as you go to your clips or timeline, the built-in iSight link is gone, until you repeat steps 1 and 2 above again. "

Hope this helps you out.

  • TS1702 Please can't make FaceTime for free for all iMac it's mean Apple can't make face time for free for snow leopard ?

Please can't make FaceTime for free for all iMac it's mean Apple can't make face time for free for snow leopard ?

did Yamaha/Apogee ever work out the problem that you couldn't use mLAN drivers for the XS (it's not really mLAN, it's "based on" right?) and Apogee drivers at the same time?
I think Yamaha has updated their drivers twice since you and I last exchanged ideas on this.
You've got killer hardware, and while I'm sure it's possible to set up an XS to send MTC and for Logic 8 to deal with correctly, it's just backwards of the way I use (almost) the same tools. My experience is the same, control Logic from the Motif, only it's so much more than just stop/start, and locate. Your XS is made to be a remote controller for Logic, sliders, transport controls, even the info for tracks and plug-ins (in Logic!) show up on your XS display and you can do plenty without touching the keyboard or mouse... Besides the sound of the Motifs, they're just great at doing this kind of stuff too... I personally wouldn't consider anything else...
I don't want to send you down a path that won't work if the two vendors in question haven't solved this yet, but... I want to help you but deep inside I think you're approaching your top-of-the-line gear backwards...
of course, if this is still a vendor incompatibility thing... then you have no choice.
pages 839 (the graphic is on page 838) of the Logic user manual under "listen to MMC input" describes what you need to set in Logic 8 to make this work. Since I don't have an XS, I can't point you to the correct pages for that.
I really hope you can get this to work.

  • Can i make a video and use an external mixer for the sound?

can i make a video and use an external mixer for the sound with my ipod touch?

You need a special plug to use the iPod's mic in for the headphone jack. If you compare a headphone plug for a set that includes a mic and one that does not you can see that there is a difference.

  • TS3367 I already try these steps but I still got the problem I can't make a video call at all or receive .

I already try these steps but I still got the problem I can't make a video call at all or receive .

    Here som other steps you can try;
Make sure that you have an internet connection
Make sure that you have a valid Apple ID (check here: myinfo.apple.com). Note that your Apple ID  to register FaceTime on iPad 2, iPod touch, or FaceTime for Mac must be an email address. You can create a new Apple ID or make changes by visiting myinfo.apple.com and using the “Manage your Account” part.
Tap Settings > FaceTime to see that your email address is verified. If your status is saying “verifying,”; then try toggling FaceTime off and on (Settings > FaceTime OR FaceTime for Mac: FaceTime > Preferences)
Try turning FaceTime off and on again using the following (iOS: Settings > Phone OR FaceTime for Mac: FaceTime > Preferences)
Make sure that FaceTime is enabled (Settings > FaceTime.)
Make sure that the camera for FaceTime is not restricted (Settings > General > Restrictions.)
Tap Settings > General > Date & Time to check date and time are set correctly.
Make sure that you are using the correct method for calling the person. iPhone user: Use the phone number; iPad 2, iPod touch, or FaceTime for Mac user: Use the email address

  • Can I make a video with Powerbook Pro

can I make a video using camera on Powerbook Pro

MacBooks and MacBook Pro both have a built-in camera on the bezel.    So if you were talking one of those, then you can use Quicktime Pro to make a video or Ambroisa SnapZ Pro.  Later versions of Mac OS X support video capture on standard Quicktime.  So please go to Apple menu -> About This Mac and tell us your operating system version.  And please properly identify your Mac using this tip:

  • I am trying to install Lion on my imac and it says it can't make a recovery disk

I am trying to install lion and receive a message saying it can't make a recovery disk.  I am using a 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac.  I do have bootcamp on it, but was never able to install Windows.

What happens when Lion installs is it creates a Lion Recovery Partition at the very bottom area of the drive, this is used to Command R boot into and perform Disk Utility Repairs and reinstall Lion from Apple's servers much like a 10.6 disk will.
So when you ran the Lion installer, it couldn't create this small partiiton, either because the GUID partition table (the map of your paartitions on the drive) is borked or there is data all the way to the bottom of the drive or OS X thinks there is.
You set up the bootcamp parittion, so run that and delete the Bootcamp partition as your not using it or Windows, once it's finished reboot and try installing Lion again.
I should warn you, Lion will not run your Rosetta based software or hardware drivers for external hardware, you may have to purchase all new versions. Not only that, hardware drivers may not be available for 10.7 thus rendering your third party printers, scanners etc useless.
Before you install Lion, you should consult this web page
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
to see if your current programs will break and when to expect a new version (likely paid)
Also you shoudl check your hardware and the makers site if there is a 10.7 compatible driver/software for them.
And once you think your ready to go to Lion, get a blank external powered drive and a free/donationware copy of Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your present (non-Filevault) 10.6 boot drive to the external drive.
Later if 10.7 doesn't work for you, simply hold the option key and boot off the 10.6 clone, use Disk Utility to Erase the entire drive (the whole drive!) and reverse clone 10.6 back onto the internal drive.

  • Hi, I have a iMac Tiger running slowly, how can I make it run faster?

Hi, I have a iMac Tiger 10.4.11 running slowly, how can I make it run faster?

Look at what is happenning with your Mac when you run Activity Monitor.
    Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor
Click on the CPU tab on the lower half of the window to see how much time you are using.
Click on System Memory to get statistics on memory usage.  You should have some free memory.
When you have lots of page outs more memory will be helpful.  My entry for entry for Page ins/outs is:
    Page ins/outs: 29163/0
Notice I have 0 pageouts which says that I am not using my harddrive for extra memory space.  Thus, I have enough memory.
Activity Monitor has a neat feature where it can display a dynamic dock icon.  In Activity Monitor View > Dock icon > Show cpu history.
"Reading system memory usage in Activity Monitor :"

  • Can you make a Video Playlist?

is there any way to make a Video Playlist?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

In iTunes, you can only add playlists that show up in the in the list of playlists in the Source window. You can not make sub-entries to the default Videos playlist. If all the entries in a playlist are seen by iTunes as videos, they will appear if you highlight the playlist and click on Videos in the Search bar.
For the iPod, if a playlist contains only videos, then it will show up under Videos > Video Playlists (I just double-checked this on my own iPod).

I suggest you go back and see your wireless service provider...with a new device, you should not be having such problems and they need to resolve it.

  • I can't make my video to 16:9, its like blocked it just let me publish it as 4:3

Hi, I'm a fan of Adobe, I like it since I tried photoshop in 6th grade, well I'm a skater, and I edit videos, I bought premier because people told me it was the best software, then when I got home, I couldn't publish my videos to 16:9 wide-screen, I tried for long but I still can't, I did this and its always the same
I went to Edit/General them when I try to change 4:3 to 16:9 it doesn't let me, its like blocked, I paid for it and everything and it really makes me mad because I can't make my movies look better in youtube, etc, please help

    Welcome to the forum.
We like Adobe products here too.
Now, please tell us about how you record your video footage. The camera (make and model), plus the settings, would be useful.
Next, it is that source footage that will determine the Aspect Ratio (the 4:3 vs 16:9), and one should set up their Project with the matching Aspect Ratio.
If you have shot 4:3, but really want 16:9, there are methods to "fake it," or to "force it." We can get into those methods, if necessary, but let's start with that video footage, and work from there.
Good luck, and the more details that you can give us, the better we can instruct as to what to do next.
    Hunt
PS - when I was in the 6th grade, we hardly had colored pencils. I am envious!
