IMac G5 making ringing or cash register sound!!

I have been hearing this strange automated sound recently. Don't know if it is a virus etc. Every so often I hear a ringing sound when I'm doing work. Sounds like the ringing of a cash register! Haven't pinpointed if it is only when connected to net or if certain apps are open.
Could someone please tell me where to start looking! Weird.
iMac G5 iSight 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

HMMMM... Normally I'd say no, but I will say that I recently loaded a piece of software? that allows me to use a Citrix Connection to access a real estate database, it seems that I amusing internet explorer in a window, but it is on their server.
I'm looking at my computer and this software or link isn't active, nor am I on that site, could this be it? Can't remember if the problem just started around the time of installation. But could be...
Any other ideas?

  • My iMac is making a louder that usual sound when in use - any suggestions to get it to chill out a bit?!

    It's a low whirring, I'm sure it's louder than it used to be and it definitely gets louder the more windows I have open, or applications are running, iTunes with Photoshop and Safari etc. causes it to get much louder. It's not the actual fan as far as I can tell, the other day I put it to sleep and it instead froze and the fan was really loud in that case and I just had to turn it off at the back.
    I tried repairing the disk permissions, it's made no difference. I can't see anything out of place it Activity Monitor but I might be wrong about that.
    Is it a case of the Mac getting too hot, or just that it's nearly 6 years old?!
    Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

    First, make sure that all your air vents are free of dust and lint.
    Then,try http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1436 Resetting SMU
    After that, if you do not have an iSight, open the back and look for bulging or leaking caps (the little soda can).  It's likely that either some caps are bad or your power supply unit is failing.  Go to User>Applications>Utilities>Console and type in maximum temperature in the little box at the top right of Console.  If you see any heat messages, then your problem is likely what I suggested.

  • IMac CRT making POP sounds

    my bondi blue iMac is making loud popping sounds, and the screen is flickering..
    it is completely random, even though i am expecting it to do it, it always scares me everytime it does it...
    is this thing going to explode, catch fire? it has never been opened, or anything...
    please help, this was my first USB based Mac!!!

    That sounds just like symptoms of Flyback Transformer (FBT) failure. A very common problem in early, tray-loading iMacs.
    You can fix it yourself, if you are comfortable working around HIGH VOLTAGE. Look here - MacOpz Flyback Transformer repair.
    It may be best to either a) connect an external monitor to the iMac, or b) take the hard drive out, as your data should still be safe.
    Good luck,
    Kyle-

  • My 2009 iMac is making a very loud,rapid pulsating electronic noise. It stops temporarily after adjusting the screen brightness or using certain apps. But it always returns

    My 2009 iMac is making a very loud noise. It sounds like a rapid, pulsating electronic noise. It stops when the screen brightness is adjusted or when using certain apps. But it always returns and is getting louder. The unit was shut down for 4 months and the house temperature was set to 5C. It was powered up 2 weeks ago and ran fine for a while. Then in the last 5 or 6 days the problem started. 5 days ago I did watch a bike race for 3 or 4 hours from a quasi legal stream. I am not tech savvy. Just very confused as I've had a trouble free run so far. Ditto with my iphone5.

    I would recommend taking it in immediately to your local Apple Store or AASP to be loooked at by an Apple Genius. I suspect you made a goof somewhere but diagnosing noises without seeing it is really difficult.

  • HT1338 why does my imac keep making a noise every 30 seconds when I am not using it?

    My iMac keeping making a sound (sort of a clicking sound) every 30 seconds when I am not using it. It is very annoying; is therre a way to stop it?

    Bring it in to service, and ask them to tell you what the noise is.  Sometimes it just is the optical drive realigning itself.   It could be the sign of a dying hard drive.  Only they can tell the difference.

  • My mac pro keeps making a chirping cricket-like sound

    My Mac Pro keeps making a chirping cricket-like sound, more and more frequently. Has anyone else had this problem? Is this telling me one of my HD is going bad?

    K_Bar wrote:
    ...I had them so close together that it sounded like the MacPro. Once I pulled them apart however, it was clear where the sound was coming from. Thank you all for the help!
    Been there, done that. And the instructions, once I found them, seemed to list every possible communication except the chirps; I had to call tech support, which was actually a pleasant experience after dealing with Verizon.
    The frequency of chirping as well as how long each chirp sequence lasts seems to be related to the line voltage. It's as if the UPS begins to worry as the line voltage goes down that it might have to actually do something with its battery.

  • I have a frustrating problem with my iPhone 5 post ios8 installation. The ring tone won't sound when phone is locked/switched off, although the vibration does work. I think it has something to do with "do not disturb"

    Hi, I have a frustrating problem that seems to have occurred post iOS 8 installation. When my iphone5 is switched off the ring tone fails to sound i only get the vibration. If i am using my phone and a have an incoming call then the ring tone works as normal. I think it has something to do with "do not disturb" ... i see from the menu in "do not disturb" that under the heading "silence" there are two options "always" and "only when the phone is locked" This does not seem to make sense as i have to choose one or the other!
    If anybody can help advise me on this problem i would be very grateful.
    Thanks

    Hello Mogulman46,
    So what that means is when you have Do Not Disturb turned on, you may have an alert depending on the setting and how you are using your iPhone. So if it is set to Always, then that means that no matter what, your iPhone will not be notified. If it set to Only while the iPhone is locked, then that means that you will not get notification when your iPhone is locked but you will get notifications if your iPhone is being used. Also keep in mind the settings All Calls From can be set to certain contacts like Favorites, Everyone or no one. If you are using Do Not Disturb and you do not need it, then turn it off.
    Use Do Not Disturb on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  • Need help with a cash register program.

    I'm a noob at JAVA, but having fun with i so far! I was wondering if anyone could help me with a school project I need to get done. I've done most of the work, but I can't get it to not display when I have zero results. What I mean is that the project requires you to create a cash register program that gives you change in 20's, 5's, and 1's for a hundred dollar bill. I get it to display the results, but if there are zero of any category, like in the last problem, I can't let it show. Could someone please help! Thank you in advance! Here's what I have so far (sorry about the rapidshare download ^_^;).
    [http://rapidshare.de/files/39978938/project.java.html]

    Zack,
    The user should not see the line: 0 $5 bill(s)Then you need to detect the situation where no five dollars bills are included in the change, and suppress the output of that line.
    I can read your mind... it's going something like "yeah well righto smartass, I knew that allready... my question was _HOW_ to make that happen...
    And my answer to that is "I'm not telling you"... well, not straight out anyway, coz you'll actually learn more if your struggle a bit (but not too much) yourself...
    So... I suggest you (at least) read through [this page|http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/java/nutsandbolts/if.html] on the +if+ statement, and maybe even try out the examples, which should (I imagine) take maybe half an hour or so. "Selection" is an absolutely core programming construct... and the concept is common to every programming language ever (AFAIK) invented... meaning that you will really struggle until you "get" the +if+ statement... so that half hour would be time well spent.
    When you've got +if+ concept onboard, you can attempt to apply it to your immediate problem, suppressing those annoying fivers! Have a go yourself, if get really stumped than post a _specific_ question here about the bit that's stumped you.
    I know it can be frustrating... but that just hightens the little thrill you get when you "get it".
    Cheers. Keith.

  • Cash Register Program (processing "sales" and "amounts" )

    I'm having trouble adding amounts to an array of capacity that the user sets at the beginning of the program. It seems very easy, but I just don't know what to do. It is for a school assignment, so I'm not asking for any freebies. I'd just like to be pointed in the right direction with hints or any useful info. A skeleton was included with the assignment which makes me feel less capable because it's all broken down. Some methods were included. The CashRegister class contains all the methods of the cash register (add amount, remove first occurrence of amount, remove all occurrences, etc.) I'm only lacking the add amount, and both remove occurrence methods.
    I think i wrote the add amount method somewhat correctly.. although I'm unsure of how to implement it in case 2 of the switch obviously not as simple as addAmount();
    // CashRegister.java
       import java.text.NumberFormat;
       import java.util.Scanner;
        public class CashRegister
          Scanner scan = new Scanner (System.in);
            //instance variables
          private double[] amounts;
          private int numOfValues;
            //constructor
           public CashRegister( int size )
             amounts = new double[ size ];
             numOfValues = 0;
            //increase size of array when needed
           private void increaseSize ()
             double[] temp = new double[amounts.length + 4];
             for (int count=0; count<amounts.length; count++)
                temp[count] = amounts[count];
             amounts = temp;
            //add amount to array
           private void addAmount(double newAmt)
             if (numOfValues == amounts.length)
                increaseSize();
             System.out.print ("Enter amount to be added: ");
             newAmt = scan.nextDouble();
             amounts[numOfValues] = newAmt;
             numOfValues++;
            //toString method
            //returns String representation of CashRegister object

             CashRegister cr = new CashRegister( numElements );
             int userChoice = 0;
             while( userChoice != 5 )
                menu();
                userChoice = scan.nextInt();
                menuSwitch( userChoice, cr );
           public static void menuSwitch( int choice, CashRegister cashReg )
               //Start Scanner to take input
             Scanner scan = new Scanner( System.in );
             switch( choice )
               //print out amounts
                case 1:
                   System.out.print( cashReg.toString() );
                   break;
                case 2:
                case 5:
                   System.out.println("\nGoodbye!");
                   break;
                default:
                   System.out.println("Sorry, invalid choice");
           public static void menu()
             System.out.println("\nCash Register");
             System.out.println("*************");
             System.out.println("1: Print the sale amounts");
             System.out.println("2: Add amount");
             System.out.println("3: Remove first occurrence of an amount");
             System.out.println("4: Remove all occurrences of an amount");
             System.out.println("5: Quit");
             System.out.print("\nEnter your choice: ");
       }

    looks like your method signature is wrong
    private void addAmount(double newAmt)the method itself gets the amount
    newAmt = scan.nextDouble();so its a bit hard passing the amount, when you first call the method
    try it like this
          private void addAmount()
             if (numOfValues == amounts.length)
                increaseSize();
             System.out.print ("Enter amount to be added: ");
             double newAmt = scan.nextDouble();
             amounts[numOfValues] = newAmt;
             numOfValues++;
          }and in your switch
    case 2:
      addAmount();
      break;

    My iMac turns on the start up chime sounds, you see the apple icon on the screen and then it just shuts off.  Any ideas?

    Do these two resets:
    SMC RESET
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
    Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
    The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.
    PRAM RESET
    Zap the PRAM
    Shut down the computer.
    Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
    Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

    I did not see your post 4 until after I had posted just now.
    That is one of the drawbacks related to purchasing Premiere Elements as a download from Adobe...the download is specific to the Windows or Mac operating system to which it is downloaded. So all you have purchased that way are the installation files and a serial number for Premiere Elements 12 Windows. If you had purchased Premiere Elements 12 in the box packaging, that comes with a disc for Windows and a disc for Mac.
    How long ago did you purchase Premiere Elements 12 Windows? If within 30 days of purchase, you can look into a 30 day money back from Adobe. But you cannot purchase the box packaging from Adobe. It only offers the download purchase from it. You would have to buy from an authorized reseller if you wanted the boxed purchase.
    The way it is now, you will need to purchase new installation files and serial number for Premiere Elements 12 for your iMac.
    That is the situation that I believe exists. More information if needed.

I never had any problems before update.

    No, sounds like when you dropped it an cracked the screen it may have also damaged the logic board or the repair person damaged a cable.
