IMac G5 transfer HD to G5 Tower-POSSIBLE?

Ok. My iMac G5 pooped on me. It started to shut off 5 seconds after I turn it on. I took it to a few Mac techs they all said my motherboard and power supply are shot. The repair is no longer covered by the warranty and the cost to repair the problems are more than the iMac is worth. Needless to say, I would like to know if anyone knows how I can recover all my files on the Hard Drive of the dead iMac. I was wondering if I could connect the iMac to my Power Mac via a firewire and transfer all the data that way OR if I can just remove the iMac Hard Drive and install it in one of my Power Mac's empty ports.
as you can see, I'm not a techy so I'm hoping some of you Pro's out there can help.
Also, do I need to hold a certain key when starting the iMac so that it doesn't shut itself off.
BTW-I'm running OS 10.5.2 on the Tower of Power.
THANKS ALL!!!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Unless you can get access to the domain.sites2 file on the G5 you'll have to rebuild your site from scratch. iWeb does not read or import html files, only create them. Chapter 2.3 of the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the existing files in the published site in the reconstruction of the site.
Do you still have the G5 and what was the cause of it going down? If it wasn't the hard drive, take the hard drive out of the G5, hook it up to your MB with the NewerTech USB 2.0 Universal Drive Adapter and you'll be able to get not only the domain file but all your user files. Or you could get a external FW drive case and use it as an external HD.

  • Document is in transfer for PO, creation not possible

    Hi
We are using SRM 4.0 EC scenario. Recently we have been facing the subjected error 'Document is in transfer for PO, creation not possible' while making the confirmation in SRM. It is observed that this is happening mostly in case once we make GR and cancel and repost. Thru some other thread posted in forum, came to know taht we need to delete the entries in table "BBP_DOCUMENT_TAB"  via FM ''BBP_DELETE_FROM_DOCUMENT_TAB''. I ran thei FM but found NO poitive results. Hope somebody can help me out. This error became very common in our production system
    Thanks
    Kiran

    Hi Kiran,
Please, use the report CLEAN_REQREQ_UP to clear the entry made for the GR in BBP_DOCUMENT_TAB. The problem comes because there is an entry for the GR in the table probably from the previous creation.

  • GR Error: Document is in transfer for PO, Creation not possible

    Hi Experts,
While posting a GR for PO, following error is being encountered,
'Document is in transfer for PO, Creation not possible'.
I checked the PR - PO. There are multiple GRs for the PO and all earlier GRs are posted successfully.
For posting a new GR this error is coming.
    Any pointers?
    Thanks in advance.

  • I have an iMac 2GHz Intel Core Duo, what is possible with Lion

I have an iMac 2GHz Intel Core Duo,  is that possible to operate Lion with this iMac

Here is the information about  downloading Lion when it is released in July.
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/how-to-buy/
If you don't meet these requirements, as of now, you wouldn't be able to run Lion.  If anything changes, I am sure Apple will let us know.

Where did it say that? If your computer meets the requirements you can install Snow Leopard and then install Lion via the Mac App store. They both cost $30

  • Is it possible to install an iMac 250Gb HD in a G3 Tower?

I recently had my HD replaced on my iMac (still under AppleCare! Yay!) but the Geniuses at the store could not transfer the data to the new HD. They gave me the old one with the names and numbers of a couple of data recovery companies, but it seems like overkill: the drive was working, if poorly, and I'm pretty sure I can get the stuff I really want in pieces if need be.
So, I have a G3 tower with extra bays for HDs, but the connections aren't quite the same. Can I get adapter cables to park the iMac HD in the G3, so I can boot it up in target mode? Or do need to find a sled? Where is the best place to go for either?

OK, I bought an Inland HD USB enclosure. I can pull files off the old HD in small chunks, but the drive periodically hits an error and stops transferring - which is why I had to replace the old HD. The only problem is the inland enclosure came with no tech specs, so I'm hoping someone can help me here. I assume that when the HD blue light is lit, the HD is spinning/in use, so turning the power off is a baaaaaad idea, right? How do I get the HD to park the head and stop spinning so I can turn it off safely? When I drag the USB drive icon to the trash, the drive unmounts, but the enclosure's blue light stays on.

  • G3 to new iMac file transfer

I just bought a new Intel iMac and will need to transfer some files from the wife's purple G3 iMac. I've read countless threads about how to do this and am more confused than ever. Do I need a crossover Ethernet cable? Firewire? A simple explanation would be much appreciated, if this is even possible to do. It sounds like it is but all of the ways don't seem to apply. The purple iMac has OS 9.2 the new one, whatever version of 10.4 they're shipping. Thanks for some plain English help!

    Hi
Transferring files from G3 to iMac (slow way):
First you need a 6-pin to 6-pin firewire cable.
Shut down both computers then connect one end of cable to new computer's firewire port & the other end to the G3's.
    Power up Intel iMac
Power up G3 holding down T key until Firewire symbol appears & floats around screen
Icon of G3 hard disk should appear on Intel's desktop.
Double-click Icon & drag&drop files to new computer's hard disk icon to copy.
    Fast way:
Get as far as floating firewire symbol
On Intel iMac run Migration Assistant (found in Applications/Utilities)
Hope that helps. If I have gone wrong anywhere can others correct me?
    Steve
PS Intel iMacs don't run OS 9, but I'm sure you knew that.

  • Will old iMac problems transfer to the new one?

My present Intel iMac is having firewire issues and past its warranty, so I'm going for a new iMac. In an effort to try and salvage the old one I wiped everything clean, reinstalled the the OS and restored from a Time Machine backup. Now I'm having problems that weren't there before, like not being able to open Mail, iTunes, or Safari.
The new iMac arrives on Monday, but I'm worried that whatever is wrong with the old computer will transfer into the new one. Any ideas on how to avoid this?

That's a good thought on the 3rd party apps. I'm taking inventory of all my disks and downloadable Apps now, and removing them so I can individually reinstall them on the new machine.
I checked out the permissions and everything seems to be OK. But still no luck on the those three apps. Mail opens, but crashes as soon as I try to read a message. And iTunes and Safari can't stay open at all. Interestingly enough, I'm trying other Mac apps like iCal, Garage Band and iPhoto and they're all still good.

  • IPod Classic to iMac photo transfer

Laptop died, lost everything. However, my old iPod Classic (click wheel 120GB) still had all of my old photos on it. I have an iMac now and am trying to transfer the photos over. Any good (hopefully free, although not opposed to buying) transfer software? Tried two already and they don't seem to work, or can't "find" my iPod.

See Putting iPod into Disk Mode.
If you ticked the option to include the original images these should be visible in the file system on the device, otherwise the iPod will only have low resolution copies. Some of the third party recovery tools are able to extract these but I don't have a recommendation for you.

  • How to Stop IMac to IMac Wireless Transfer Once Started

I'm transferring old IMac Files to a New IMac using Airport because I didn't have the correct fire wire. What a mistake. 24 hours later it is still transferring. Is there a way to stop the transfer, hook-up the $14 fire wire and restart the transfer?
    Thanks

There should be a small Copy window that shows progress. Next to the progress bar (on the right), there is a little x. Click the x.
Connecting the two with a standard Ethernet cable will not be as fast as FireWire, but it will be much faster than AirPort 802.11g (or b). If both Macs have gigabit Ethernet, then it will be VERY fast (as long as the cable is Cat-5e or better).

  • How do I remove my AddressBook folder from dropbox on my old imac and transfer it to my new imac with lion so I can use iCloud?

How do I remove my Address Book folder from dropbox on my old Imac and move it to my new mac so I can use icloud

Is there a reason that you don't want to use Migration Assistant to automatically transfer all your user files from one Mac to the other?
If you absolutely want to do it manually, copy the contents of the user/Library/Application Support/AddressBook folder from the old Mac to the new. Use Dropbox or a flash drive or whatever you prefer, but it must end up in the same location you copied it from. You must hold down the Option key and click the Go menu in Finder to see the Library folder, or use Go - Go to Folder and type in "~/Library".

You do not transfer Adobe applications, it does not work.  You need to install using installation files.

  • Issue with Airport-iMac data transfer speed

Hi, folks. On 10.6.4 and 10.6.5, we'd recently seen the internet slowing down on our Intel iMac (not on MacBook Pro or either of our old G5 computers running tiger). I did some searching but couldn't track down an obvious solution. Symptom was app agnostic (i.e. it showed up in Safari, Firefox, Mail and Software Update).
One of our airport hubs sits just behind the iMac, though it was connecting wirelessly - when I connected the iMac via ethernet cable to the Airport, the speed of rendering, etc. came back immediately, no delays. I've now switched off the Airport at the iMac end completely.
So, bottom line appears to be that the wireless connection between iMac and Airport has slowed down. Any ideas about possible cause?
    Thanks,
    Vince

It may not show you anything useful, but I'd use the advice in this thread to investigate the signal and noise levels that the iMac sees:
