Imac G5 v. 10.3.6 with multiple problems startup failure + error code +

I have tired numerous suggestions without writing, but no luck.  Here's the deal: I may have erased important files in the start up volume.  Don't know exactly.  Upon start up I get to the white screen with the gray apple icon and the time indicator circle.  It stays in on this screen until the fan starts to speed up and I am forced to manually shut down. I ran a short test of the hardware and everything passed.  Ran an extended test and there was an error code 2STF/8/3:S-ATA Bus 0 - Master reported in the mass storage.  Went to the utilities of the install disk and noticed there are two applications under volumes Mac OS x and OS 9 (computer was purchased from ebay used with Final Cut Pro already included). Also there is a "dev" harddrive seen with the "System" harddrive????  The system files/folder seem to be normal except that the Library is empty.  A Library does exist under the "root" folder followed by perferences.  I don't know if it matters but when we bought this computer we put our previous system onto it.  Recently I tired to reinstall by saving the archives and an error was reported and I was asked to try to reinstall again.  Again I returned to the disk utilities and ran the first aid on the System and it reported that the the reserved fields in the catalog record have incorrect data, followed by invalid sibling lind (red font) and Rebuiling Catalog B-tree. The volume system reported it could not be repaired (-9972). Any advice at this point would be appreciated. My husband is about to kill me.  We are living in Costa Rica and the nearest applestore is 3 hours away. We just got this computer back from them. It took 3 months to replace the powersupply.

Hi Dardaner, and a warm welcome to the forums!
You have problems with the Hard Drive, how bad I'm not certain.
Do you need the Data that is on that Drive?
If so, unfortunately DU can't fix all that much, your best bet is DiskWarrior, you need the CD though.
http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/
If you can afford to start over and lose all that data, then, perhaps...
"Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the Erase tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume, then chose MacOS Extended Journalled.
6. Click Erase & look for Options. choose Zero 1 pass."
You may be able to reinstall then, but of course nothing you had before will be there.

  • Handshaking DMM with multiple Switch devices - DAQmx error

    Hi.
I'm trying to create a handshaking loop with DMM (PXI-4071), SWITCH (PXI-2569) and MUX (PXI-2575). All three instruments are in segment 2 of PXI-1045 chassis (slots 8, 9 and 10) and I am using PXI trigger lanes to route triggers.
I followed the NI article 'Multi-module Scanning with National Instruments Switches' - I modified the NI SWITCH example 'niSwitchDMMSwitchHandshaking' to configure the other SWITCH but when I tried to run the example, I got an error:
0xbffa6b9a - No registered lines could be found between the device in the route. (pop-up screenshot is in the attachment). It is the niSwitch_InitiateScan function for the second Switch that returned the error.
Changing PIX trigger lanes has no effect.
I tried both CVI and LabVIEW examples with the same result.
I even tried to use two 2575 MUXes - same result.
Can anybody tell me what am I doing wrong?

    Hi Pavel,
For the purposes of this post, I'll define
the measurement complete signal (sent by the DMM to the switch modules
after each measurement) as 'MC' and place it on TTL0.
    For the
purposes of this post, I'll define the scan advanced signal (sent by the
switch module(s) to the DMM once the relays have settled) as 'SA' and place
    it on TTL1.
You mentioned you're using NI-Switch, which is NI's IVI
compliant switch API.  Since the IVI Foundation regulates the behavior
of IVI compliant software, we must adhere to their rules when
implementing our API.   Unfortunately, the IVI switch standard doesn't
provide a method to control arbiting of triggers between multiple switch modules
    simultaneously.
    Let's
look at what happens when we setup a system with multiple switch
modules handshaking with a single DMM.  The DMM is going to take a
measurement and then send MC on TTL0. Meanwhile, each switch is listening to TTL0,
waiting for the MC pulse.  When the MC pulse is received, each switch sets
the relays according to its next scan list entry, waits for debounce,
and then sends SA on TTL1.  The problem we run into here is that depending on the switch module, number of relays connected simultaneously, jitter, etc, it's possible that one module will send the SA trigger on TTL1 before the other.  Since the IVI spec doesn't provide any way to implement a 'master' switch or an arbitor, it's impossible to implement a system such that only the last switch that settles sends a trigger.  Therefore, what happens is we get a whole bunch of switch modules sending triggers at slightly different times onto TTL1.  If one switch is driving TTL1 high while the others are driving TTL1 lo, it's remotely possible that we could damage the TTL circuitry on the PXI backplane.
To date, NI hasn't seen any failures due to simultaneously driving the TTL lines high and low at the same time with NI switch hardware, but it is theoretically possible that damage could occur.  For this reason, NI implemented a change in DAQmx
    9.0.0, 9.0.1, and
9.0.2 that prevents a user from setting up handshaking with multiple switch modules while using NI-Switch.  What does DAQmx have to do with this, you might ask?  A component installed with DAQmx is responsible for verifying the triggers are valid.
Customers with existing NI-Switch multi-module handshaking applications will find that upon upgrading to any of the above three versions of DAQmx, the error you observed will occur.  We've evaluated this customer feedback and have decided to revert to the previous functionality in a yet-to-be released version of DAQmx.  Please note that NI does not advise driving the same TTL line with multiple sources due to the chance that we'll double-drive the line. Therefore, it goes with out saying that NI does not advise using NI-Switch in multi-module handshaking applications.  We do, however, still recommend NI-Switch for Syncrhonous triggering because the switches never send triggers (in synchronous mode, the DMM just waits a predefined amount of time before switching).
Note that if you use the DAQmx Switch API, we're no longer bound to the IVI spec, which means we have an arbitor that ensures only one switch module drives the SA trigger on TTL1.  NI highly recommends that customers evaluate using the DAQmx switching API for multi-switch handshaking applications. An example DAQmx handshaking application for the DAQmx Switch API is located in Example Finder»Hardware Input and Output»DAQmx»Switches»Switch Scanning with DMM - Handshaking.vi.
Note that in DAQmx, we'll only have one scan list, regardless of the number of switches we have.  Note that the syntax in DAQmx scanning is different than NI-Switch.  I'll defer a detailed explanation of the differences to the DAQmx and NI-Switch Help (search for 'scan list'), but in short, we'll need to include the DAQmx Device name prior to each connection.  For example, in NI-Switch, if we want to connect CH1 to Com1:
    CH1->Com1;
In DAQmx, we'll need to include the Device name:
    Dev1\CH1->Com1;
Note that to add additional switch modules in the DAQmx API,  we simply
call the Set Topology and Reset VI multiple times:
    DAQmx keeps the
session loaded in memory and as I noted above; we define which switch
does the action as part of the scan list entry.
If you'd still like to use NI-Switch, you could roll back to DAQmx 8.9.5 or previous, or if you want to stick with 9.0.x, I highly recommend that we daisy chain the triggers as follows:
DMM Measurement Complete to Advance Trigger on Switch1 via TTL0
Scan Advance from Switch1 to Advance Trigger on Switch2 via TTL1
Scan Advance from Switch2 to Trigger Source on DMM via TTL2
Note that we'll need an additional TTL line for each switch module.  Also note that some switch modules allow front panel triggers, which reduces the number of TTL lines we'll need on the backplane, but which requires external wiring between switch modules.

  • Windows 2008 R2 Sp1 backup failing with Event Id 517 and Error Code: 2147942487

We have a windows share that we dump multiple windows backup images from our servers.   We have 1 server consistently failing when performing a manual "Backup Once...." operation.
The error message in the Windows Backup gui is: "Failed The parameter is incorrect"
The event log shows an error of 517 with the message: "
The backup operation that started at '‎2015‎-‎01‎-‎12T14:25:20.681861800Z' has failed with following error code '2147942487' (One or more arguments are invalid). Please review the event details for a solution, and then rerun the backup operation once the
    issue is resolved.
The strange part is when we choose a different location to accept the backup we have success.  The backup starts, but fails between 1-6 GB transferred.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Hi,
Do you mean that if you change the backup location, the backup could be started - but still fail after backing up 1 - 6 GB data?
One of the possible cause is an incorrect partition table entry and NTFS total sectors.
Please test to shrink the volume you are going to backup for several MB.
Right click volume >>Select shrink, shrink several MB (such as 3MB).
Then extend the volume back to original size. You can right click on volume and select Extend volume.
When it finished, see if issue still exists.

  • Secure link to itunes store failed computer not connected to internet tried ununininstalling everything to do with itunes no joy also error code coming up E0000225 anybody out there got any ideas

Secure link to itunes store failed, (computer not connected to internet tried uninstalling everything to do with itunes,no joy also errror code E0000225 appearing. Have turned off windows firewall and also my Bullguarg security settings. Can anybody out there please help me thanks.

    Hi,
You could be right that the response to clicking on help is a symptom of an entirely separate issue, but nevertheless the secure link to itunes is definitely failed, and I am unable to log into Itunes on either PC.
I also noticed that even if I click on the link to create a whole new Apple ID, I cannot do that either, presumably because the secure link is not working.
After I noticed that there were weird things happening this morning, I did change my Apple ID password in the hope that this might resolve it, but it seemed to make it worse.  Now, all of my apple devices keep constantly prompting me for the apple ID password, and randomly either accepting it, or telling me it is wrong.  I know the password is correct because I can log onto the apple Manage My Apple ID screens in a web browser with it.
I was starting to think that this is an ISP issue (BT Broadband), but I have not seen anyone else posting with the same issue.  Does Apple use a different security protocol to everyone else?  I'm asking because all other secure services seem to be working fine, but anything related to apple that requires a secure connection or authentication is having issues.
I have also seen reference to making sure that Itunes is listed as an allowed program in Windows Firewall.  I cannot seem to do this because it says that my Windows firewall is being managed by McCafee.  I have checked the settings in McCafee, and it appears to me that Itunes, Bonjour, and many other apple programs have been granted "Full" access.  As said before in any case I have tried temporarily disabling the firewall and even this did not solve the problem.

I have a PIXMA330 and bought new computer with Windows 8.1. I get error code 2,148,0 when trying to scan. I tried to download updated driver but still have the problem. Is this common? Thank you.

You may have a BIOS problem, but there are no drivers for the BIOS.  The BIOS is the system firmware.  You will have to go to the support website of the computer/motherboard manufacturer to look for a BIOS update as Windows has nothing to do with
the BIOS - that is the sole responsibility of the computer/motherboard manufacturer.

  • IMac G3 OS 9.2.2 with DHCP problems

I'm totally new to Macs, so I apologize in advance if I don't know the correct things to mention in this post. I just received two nearly identical iMac G3's (the only difference is one is 350MHz, the other is 400MHz) and wanted to get them onto my home network, which is currently dominated by Windows PC's. I reinstalled the OS on one of the iMacs since its hard drive was wiped before I got it. I used the gray "iMac Software Install" CD with OS 9.1 on it that came with the system. Install worked fine, and the system seems to check out.
I hooked the computer up to an ethernet cable that is connected to my router at home. The link light on the router came on, and Apple's System Profiler says the ethernet connection is active and up. However, running through the Internet Connection Helper, I was unable to get DHCP working properly. I went into the TCP/IP control panel and here's what I have...
    Connect via: Ethernet
    Configure: Using DHCP Server
DHCP Client ID: [this box is blank]
    IP Address: 169.254.84.226
    Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0
    Router Address: 169.254.84.226
Name Server Address: [this box is blank]
Implicit Search Path - Starting Domain name: [box is blank]
Ending domain name: [box is blank]
    Search domains: [box is blank]
Clearly my system is not getting a valid IP address from my router (a D-Link DI-524 with the latest firmware version, 3.20). I checked the system's name in the File Sharing control panel since some people suggested it may be the problem. The name is fine - it is "blue" for one of the iMac's and "indigo" for the other. Creative, aren't I? Anyway, something is going on where the link is up but no DHCP address is being assigned.
I decided to hook the other Mac to the same cable. The exact same problem happens - only "169" addresses are assigned, not the "192" addresses that the router should be handing out. So I decided to test out the cable - it works fine with my Sony laptop. I connect it to the same cable and I'm online instantly. My router is set up to configure computers via DHCP, too, since release and renewal commands on the Sony laptop work just fine. I've rebooted, I've reinstalled the OS, I've updated to 9.2.1 and then to 9.2.2, and nothing seems to work. Both systems refuse to get DHCP addresses, but my Sony, on the exact same cable, works fine. I even changed the port that the ethernet cable connects to on the router - again, the iMac's fail to get an IP while other computers that I try with that cable and that port at a later time have no problem getting an IP.
On a final note, when I set the IP configuration of one of the systems up manually and connect it to the router (forcing it to have an IP of 192.168.0.150, for example), I am able to then ping the iMac from a windows based PC on the network. Also, I am then able to ping the Windows PC from the Mac using a program that I found online to allow me to ping on a Mac. Strangely, I can't ping the router's IP (192.168.0.1) from the iMac even though traffic MUST be going through the router to get to the Windows PC from the Mac and vice versa when I do those pings. I have no problem pinging the router's IP from the Windows PC. It's a really strange situation and I just can't figure it out...
If the cable didn't work with any computer, I'd blame that. If the router didn't assign IP's to my windows boxes, I'd blame the router. If I only had one Mac, I could theorize that it has some sort of problem with its ethernet port. If I couldn't ping in or out, I could also theorize that the link was broken somewhere in-between. But to have the exact same thing happening on 2 iMacs with virtually identical configurations and OS installations is really bothersome, considering all of the other networking equipment has been shown to work properly with the Windows machines. I have a feeling it is some setting that I don't know about on the Macs that must be changed or enabled / disabled, but I just don't know what it is. Any suggestions or help that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.
    iMac G3 400MHz   Mac OS 9.2.x

Access control lists aren't enabled on the router... like I said, it's strange that the pings are getting through (which an access control list would prevent). I reset the router to factory defaults and the problems I mentioned still remained.
I tried out a different router and suddenly, without explanation, both Macs started working. I guess my D-Link router (DI-524) just doesn't like these iMacs running OS 9.2.2. They work fine with a Belkin router that a friend brought over, though - and that has me satisfied with their condition. Looks like I need to buy a new router, or otherwise contact D-Link to figure out what the problem is. I have a feeling just getting a new router will be easier, though. Thanks for the help. Hopefully someone else searching for help with these iMac models and a D-Link DI-524 router will find this information useful. Oh, and lastly, I have another D-Link DI-524 available... I connected the Macs to it, and again, they couldn't get IP addresses autoassigned via DHCP. This is definitely a compatibility issue between iMacs and this specific router model.

  • Need some assistance with multiple problems (8330 Curve)

    Hello all,
I am recent buyer of an 8330 (Verizon). I like it a lot and find it a very useful tool. Being new to the BB world, I do have some questions, that I cannot find answered on any of the BB forums.
    So here they are:
    1. I have two e-mail accounts setup on my BB. So this means that I should have only two e-mail options under applications. I have three and the third one seems to get messages from both of my two other accounts. What is also weird is that there is no e-mail header on the top (like with the other two e-mail folders). How do I get e-mails to stop going in to this folder and basically delete it? The other strange thing (that I just noticed is that this generic e-mail box gets some e-mails that my other two accounts never see (even though they have their correct e-mail address on them)!
    2. How do I create sig lines for my e-mail accounts? I have read the help pages, but the instructions they give me for creating signatures on my outgoing e-mails does not work.
    3. Does the new 4.5 SW upgrade allow me to use the GPS capability with my phone? I bought the download Garmin SW for my phone ONLY to find out later that Verizon has blocked this feature! It should would be nice if either VZ or Garmin would have made that crystal clear when I got my phone. :-(
Thanks much for all the assistance!
    Grant

    1.  That is the "Messages" folder.  It is a dumping ground for ALL messages including all emails, sms, mms, pin, BBMessenger (if selected) and any others like Browser messages, etc.  You can't stop messages from going there but you can hid the icon, if you like.
    2.  To create signatures for email you have to use the BIS logon from your PC.  Use the link below to do this:
    https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=vzw
    3.  Upgrading the OS does not allow you to use the GPS with other software like Garmin.  This is a Verizon lock and there is no way around it.  They want you to pay for their service.
