IMac get burn when switch on the power
On 21 Oct 2007, in the shinning morning I switch on the power point at my iMac, there is smoke emitting from iMac.
Is thanks to God where I notices the burning smell and switch on the main power port immediately.
On 24 Oct 2007, I report this to local Apple and when the staff switch on the power, its encounter the same problem where the burning inside iMac cause smoke emitting.
For me, this is the basic right for me as consumer to have the Safe Product to use.
IF today is my Son switch on the power, I can't imagine what going to happen to my son.
So, local Apple retailer told me my MBL no functioning. But, my interest is how can the iMac can get burn.
Would like to know whether anyone encounter on this.
Hi, I brought my Apple iMac on Aug 2006 and after 14 months use, its get burn.
So, I already past my warranty period and if I wish to fix my Apple, I need to pay around USD1000 for replace Main Logic Board.
Hence, I'm not lucky enough like you think.
Never come in my mind, I have so low quality of APPLE Product.
If today the Main Logic Board is not working and didn't cause any burning. I believe I will happy to accept the fate that I can't expect long life product.
But, now is get burning I feel that the issue is not only replace Main Logic Board.
If today is my son switch on the power, I can't imagine what going to happen against my son and my whole Apartment.
Do you agree with me?

TerrenceHey terremo,
Thanks for the question. From the information you provided, it sounds like the iMac is successfully turning on, however video is not displayed. These symptoms can usually be isolated further by the troubleshooting steps in this article:

I have a 24 inch early 2008 iMac. To power it on, I have to unplug it, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in, hit the power button, and hold the button for exactly 6 seconds after it starts to whir before releasing it. When I press the power on, unless I hold it for exactly 6 seconds, it abruptly aborts the powering up cycle in a few seconds more. Also, if its been off for a while, even if I unplug it, and plug it back it, it sometimes spontaneously starts the power up cycle, but aborts it in a few seconds. I've had to do this for the last two years. In that interval, has been completely reformatted and restored once . For perhaps one or two weeks, it powered up properly, than reverted to the state described above. The Genius Bar hasn't been able to help. What's up with this?
This could be a software/state problem or a hardware problem. Here are steps to resolve the former.

I just replace my hard drive on my imac and now when i turn the computer on the fan starts running and keeps getting louder. How do i turn it off?
thanks. If your machine was made after 2009 you probably installed th wrong HD. Beginning in 2009 Apple began using HD's that had an integrated fan sensor. If you did not use one of these drives then that is the problem. You should contact OWC (www.macsales.com) or visit your local AASP and they will help you select the correct HD to use.

My probably 10 year old MaycBook died. It won't start. When I press the power button, it gets power, but it only lights up and a scratching noise starts like something is spinning. A file folder with a question mark periodically flashes... Help!!!
You don't have a Macbook if you are running OS 9 and it's 10 years old. The first Macbook is an Intel Mac that came out in 2006 running 10.4.x. You most likely have a Powerbook. Try posting in the Powerbook forum.

What could be wrong with my iMac? When switched on the screen displays the apple logo with a busy bar at the bottom of the screen. This displays the progress of the computer trying to do something. To fill the bar takes about 30 mins and then switches off
Which OS X is installed?

Mac Pro turning on when switching on external power switch
Hi,
I have my studio including the Mac Pro behind a couple of power switches (Phonic power conditioners). Often, when I switch on the power switch that has the Mac connected to it, the Mac turns on without me having to press the Mac's own power button.
Why is this? Does the Mac get some kind of power surge when I turn on the power conditioner making it think there was a power outage?
The Mac is always fully shut down before I turn off the power switches.
"Restart automatically after a power failure" is turned off in the system preferences.
Best,
Maartenthat is freaky. mine does a similar thing. i've observed my imac switch on all by itself. i turn it off in the morning when i leave for work and when i get back home in the evening i find the imac on but is in sleep mode. i've seen it happen right before my eyes once. but it doesn't happen all the time. maybe once to twice a week... trojan maybe? maybe we need an exorcist? it is definitely not the schedule/start or wakeup facility under preferences... energy saver... since i've never turned that
featuret on. although i do use the schedule to switch off my mac at 12 pm every weekday. maybe its another undocumented feature of mac leopard (among many other things). i sure never had this problem when i was using tiger. -
I don't think my Mac Pro is completely shutting down. When I hit the power button, it just turns off immediately instead of going through the normal shut down procedures. I heard that I should try resetting the SMC, which involves removing the power cord. However, when I remove and replace the power cord, it turns on automatically, so I can't even properly reset that to see if it is the issue. Is this probably a power supply issue?
Actually, in case this information helps... The computer went into sleep mode the other day, and would not come back. This is a work computer that I use for our photography business, and at this point I am just trying to run it as a drive to get the photos onto our new computer, but this issue is keeping us from doing so. Any help would be greatly appreciated!Try a SMC reset.

MPB Powers OFF when I connect the power cord
Just got a new MBP this weekend. When I connect the power cord after the battery gets low, the computer instantly shuts off. No warning, just shuts off. The battery can be at any charge level, and this will happen. Pull the power cord off, no problem. Put it back on, the computer is off. I have to restart, unsaved changes lost. This is my second MBP, and the first one never did this. I am about to drag it in to the Genius bar, but has this happened to anyone else? Sounds like a bad hardware issue to me. Could it be a settings issue? I've only been using it for about three days. Thanks in advance.
Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You might try resetting the SMC and see if this helps.

iPad 2 has a black screen which lights up to a grey black screen when I press the power or home button but I dont see the apple logo. The battery is fully charged and when I plug it in to my computer, I can use iTunes to do everythng except backup the iPad since its passcode locked. Please help me resolve this problem. I don't have apple care
Yup! I've been there! You just have to double-tap the screen with three fingers and the zoom should go back. You have to turn off the feature in Settings>Accessibility>Zoom>and turn the switch off so this won't happen again when you double-triple tap.

I have a new keyboard and two of the keys are inverted when I use my Mac -- but not when they put that keyboard on the Mac at the Apple Store. The @ is where the < should be and visa-versa. That is, when I type the @ I get < and when I type the < I get @. I am in Français numérique. Thanks
Try a SMC reset, please do it 2-3 times.

T530 loses sound when you pull the power cord out
When I pull the power cord out from my t530, I lose sound, until I reboot. I have run updater thingy to get all latest drivers, that seems to what have caused this problem in the first place. I was trying to get HDMI sound to work out of the mini display port which was a hit or miss challenge depending on the order of pluggin things in, but now this is the bigger chanllenge.
if I do a "test" on the device it says it is being used by another application. If I enable/disable the device it doesn't fix it.
I am not on a docking station, no accessories but a USB logitech wireless mouse. -
when i press the power button and the "home" button it lights up the screen. however.... the screen is magnatized like 300% percent. and i cant open it or anything becasue it wont let me move the screen!!! what to do??
