IMac Home Server 504 errors?

I created a web page on my iMac via iWeb.  I want this to be viewable on the internet when I give my ip address to my family members. In system preferences I have enabled web sharing.  I have enabled port forwarding on my Airport Extreme for port 80 to 10.0.1.3 (internal iMac ip address), and I have enabled web sharing access in my firewall settings.  Using shieldsup! I have confirmed that my port 80 is open.  So, when I go to whatismyip.com and type in my ip address (external) on another computer not on my home network I should be able to see my page right?  I am getting a 504 timeout error.  Why?
I do not have a registered domain name, and I am not using dyndns or similar service.  I understand that when my router or computer restarts I will get new internal and external ip addresses.  I'm fine with that.  As everything stands now, why can't I see my page?  My ISP is not blocking port 80, I have decent DSL (6 mbps down 1.5 mbps up), and am running a Core2 duo iMac which should be fine for a basic one page text web page.  I am also running Lion if that matters.  I have searched the internet to no end.  I would appreciate any help.
Thanks
Trav

1) is web sharing turned on in system preferences
2) Is your ip address correct that you are forwarding?  I had to assign my iMac one in aiport utility to make it work.
3)  Did you confirm that port 80 is open?  Use Shieldsup for this
4) Are you able to see your page when connected to your local network?

  • All 30 minutes my Macs (iMac/Snow Leopard, MacMini/Lion) are loosing the connection to the Windows Servers (2 Networks: Home with Home Server 2011 (Server 2008) and Office with Home Server V1 (Server 2003)).

    Hallo,
    Hello,
I run the office and at home each a Microsoft Home Server. In both networks, in addition to various Windows computers, a Mac is available.
The particular "configuration" is as follows:
    - Apple MacMini (Late 2011, as HTPC) with Lion via wifi via AVM Fritzbox 7390 to Microsoft Windows Home Server 2011 (Windows Server 2008).
    - Apple iMac (Late 2010, desktop PC) with Snow Leopard by Lan on AVM Fritzbox 7270 on Microsoft Windows Home Server V1 (Windows Server 2003)
All operating systems on current conditions with all patches and updates.
The Fritz boxes running with the latest firmware
    Now to the problem:
Both Macs are loosing every 30 minutes the contact to the server. The connection is "re-"established about 1-2 minutes later. On MacMini (HTPC), the film or music is stopped for the above period. Thereafter, the film / music goes on. With the iMac (workstation) a document loaded from the server can no longer be saved or printed.
The MacMini has shown this phenomenon directly in connection with the WHS. However, the iMac has been working about 1.5 years with no problems. This problem only occurs for about 6-9 months
Because of different WHS and OS X versions are affected and also different Fritz boxes are used and it seems to be a general problem in the interplay Windows / OS X to be present.
When the iMac is the exact date of disconnection does not occur.
With the Mac Mini, the time can however be determined relatively easily. From the Event Viewer on Windows Server is unfortunately no clear error image. At the particular time but appeared relatively often, but not always (!) In Windows Security Logs the error 4625 (Failed to log on an account) on. This would indicate a rights issue.
Searching for a solution (so far unsuccessfully, unfortunately), I stumbled over the problem of the Server Infrastructure License Services (silsvc) in Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials (every 30 min!). Maybe a connection?

Hi, and thank you for your reply!
My reason for not posting this in the server forum is that I suspect it is a clien issue. All my other clients connect happily to the server which leads me to believe the server is configured correctly.
Only my the two MacBook Pro's are having problems.

  • My iPhone gets a "web server proxy error" connecting to wifi @ home

Ever since installing Comcast Xfinity with Motorola SB6121 and Apple Extreme 5th generation, my iPhone 4 gets a web server proxy error or similar message for any apps seeking to go online.  My iPod Touch 3rd generation works as does my MacBook Pro.
I've reset the router, harangued Comcast (no help - it's your phone, sir), rebooted the iPhone, checked all my settings (VPN - what's that? it's not connected), Proxy in the VPN settings is set to off. The phone will show the signal and it will check Apple Mail but Safari, Google APP anything needing web access will either hang or give the proxy error message.  Apple Customer Care said call Comcast, Comcast said call Apple & I'm surprised to find little help on the web.
Here's what I found to work on a MacForum sight from 2 years ago.
    1.
Settings->WiFi->under choose a network, click the blue arrow (on the right of the network nameyou use)->DHCP
*now check the IP address with the one on your iPod Touch or computer to see if they are in sequence
*scroll down to HTTP Proxy & make sure it is off
         -> renew lease may work
It was the making sure the IP address was correct/in sequence which I moved to the STATIC tab and input all the same information (use a screen shot to remember it - home button and on/off button at the same time, it will store in your pictures folder) and give that a shot.
The problem appears to be where multiple machines or devices are using the same router. The iPhone 3GS assigned an IP Address in order of preference, therefore 192.175.1.1 and then 192.175.1.2 etc. The iPhone 4 will assign a strange IP address which the router will not accept. You therefore need to look at the other devices linked and see what number is next in the sequence. Then go to static on the top tab and type in the IP adress manually followed by the Subnet mask, router and DNS details. Once you have completed the info press the DHCP button and HTTP Proxy as off - this is important.
    2.
This is how i fixed the wifi problem...(i used my mac)
So basicly I created a new WiFi hotspot on my iMac, then I connected my iphone to it and it WORKS!
    1. open System Preferences (Apple -> System Preferences) and click Sharing.
    2. select Internet Sharing at the left side.
    3. Then check off AirPort.
    4. Then creat a newtwork name, and password
    5. VOILA! look at the Wifi connections on your iPhone and it should be there!
(IF YOU HAD ANY PROBLEMS GO TO THIS LINK..
    http://maketecheasier.com/create-wif...s-x/2009/10/20
THIS SITE SHOWS YOU HOW TO SET IT UP)
    3.
    reset Network
Same problem, but none of the above worked for me. Finally went to Settings/ General/ Reset/ Reset network settings. Saw this in a different thread.
    Hope these help.
    Cheers,
    cs

This has solved loads of people who have this issue and have used an alternate DNS setting.  Below are instructions for both iPhone OTA and on you Mac
If you are getting the error message "Unable to check for update" when you try an OTA (over the air update)
    Change DNS Servers
    Settings -> Wi-Fi
Click the blue arrow on your connected network
Delete everything in DNS and replace it with 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
    Try again
If this works, you will probably want to remove the WiFi network using "Forget This Network" and then reconnect to it to get your original DNS servers back. Alternatively, make a note of the original DNS servers before deleting them and replace it after you are done.
If you are getting the error message "Unable to check for update" when you try through iTunes
    On your Mac
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Network.
Select the network connection service you want to use (such as Wi-Fi or Ethernet, unless you named it something else) from the list, and then click Advanced.
Click DNS, and then click Add at the bottom of the DNS Servers list. Enter the IPv4 address for the DNS server.
    You can use OpenDNS
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    or
You can Google Public DNS if you want
    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4
I have actually repointed my routers DNS so all my devices now point to OpenDNS servers

  • Cannot connect from iMac to Windows Home Server 2011 shares

    Hi guys,
I am having dificulties connecting from iMac to Windows Home Server 2011 shares.
First of all it takes so long time to discover the share in iMac, which it's called "mediaserver". After finding it i cannot connect and gives "Connection Failed: message. If i choose "Connect As.." option i wait some time and then pops out with an error: "There was a problem connecting to the server "mediaserver". The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
If i try from Finder -> Go -> Connect to Server ... write in Server Address : smb://mediaserver it fails. But if i write the IP address, like: smb://192.168.1.42 it works after couple of tries. If i try now to Make an Alias for the share i get "The operation can't be completed. An unexpected error occurred (eror code -8060)."
Has anyone experienced these problems ? I have updated to Mac OS X version 10.7.3. Could that be the problem ?
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    Simi

You need to reinstall the updated WHS connector for Mac.  You should then be able to access your shares on WHS 2011.
The problem I'm having is I can't get Time Capsule to recognize the WHS 2011 mapped folders that show up on the desktop as a drive, so Backup won't work.

  • 8.1 install error on Windows Home Server

WHS, which is based on W2k3, is having the same install problem as regular Windows Server 2k3... it fails with the error that the OS must be at least XP SP2.
Is there a new rev of the installer coming out soon to resolve this problem? I used iTunes as my central hub for music in my home and would like to run the new version.
    Thanks!

I posted a response to the following thread detailing how I was able to get Itunes 8.1.0.51 to install on my computer running Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 Enterprise. It involves editing an MSI file but its a real simple fix that appears to be working just fine. It should theoretically work for you since as you've already noted, Windows Home Server is built of the same Kernel and support files as W2K3.
Here's the thread in which I detail my fix:

  • Minimum requirements for home server

I am looking to get a cheap iMac, Mini or iBook to use as a home server to run iTunes 24/7. I will be attaching an external HD for storage space for my media and will stream wirelessly to Apple TV over 802.11g using an Airport Express. What would be the minimum requirement for such a setup? Would the minimum requirement be what the latest version of iTunes require?
    Message was edited by: Mac4lfe

Hi Mac4lfe: If you want to SYNCH between the Mac and the ATV, then any G3 will do, just expect the synching to be slow. If you want to STREAM from the Mac to ATV, then a G3 will do for music but not for video. If you want to stream video, a G4 will do, but you will get a lot of beachballs when you do anything on iTunes and sometimes the streaming will fail. I suggest you get the cheapest Intel Mac, you will have a much better experience when streaming. Lastly, remember you will need a screen for the Mini, there will always be warnings, error messages, updates, etc in iTunes that you need a screen, mouse and keyboard for. Very lastly, you can just get the ATV and buy music, TV shows, Movies and rent movies without a Mac. 160GP shall be enough. I have 40 movies, 20 full TV seasons and 6000 songs and am just over 400GB.

  • Restoring Itunes library on a windows home server

Help everyone! I have had my itunes library stored on my HP WHS for the past year. Over the holidays I reformatted my Imac HD as it was sooo slow. Reinstalled OSX 10.6 and the latest version of Itunes.
I have my WHS mounted and have clicked on the option key while opening Itunes, I for the life of me can't get Itunes to see the remote library. The error I get when trying to open this library is: An Itunes library file could not be found in the folder "Itunes Share". Please chose a different folder.
I have tried different folders within the share but no luck, I do notice there are files withing the music folder called "Musiclib.xml.lock" Is my problem that this file is locked and Itunes can't see it?
Please help, I urgently need my music back and my Apple TV content back.

I am trying to find the itunes library file on my windows home server. I believe all the files are on there. Yes it is logged into my WHS automatically, I can see the files on there ect.
Yes the WHS management software is installed on the Mac.
Just went to ilounge, but not sure what I should be doing. I've read about consolidating libraries but I can't open this library that is on my WHS.

  • Mavericks Broke connection with Windows Home Server - SMB

I have the original version of Windows home server and all connections were fine over SMB, but after the upgrade to maverick I cannot connect to my shares.
Before I used the guest account, so I created an addtional account for testing. I can see this account get locked out on the WHS, so I know its talking to it.
I have 6tb of photos and itunes data on my server and looking for any way possible to configure my imac to connect again. When I try now there is no error, the user name and pw box just shakes and produces no errors.
    Please help
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Reinfire,
I tried your terminal window patch but it failed to solve my issue.  Most people seem to be trying to connect to NAS devices from their Macs.  In my case, all my data is on a Drobo hanging off my Mac Pro.  I've been using SMB to share video from my Mac to both a Boxee Box and a Raspberry Pi running  Openelec (XBMC).  While both these devices can handle afp, the old Boxee Box is less than astute with afp so SMB was the method of choice for stability.
Anyway, both devices can no longer see the SMB shares off the Mac Pro, even after your patch.  After runnig you patch, I restarted and the nsmb.conf file is created.  But, no luck on connecting with these apparently non SMB2 devices.
I can change all my shares over the afp but this will take a lot of button pushing that I'd rather not do.  Any suggestions for this scenario?

  • How to fix server identity error on iPhone 5s iOS 8.0.2

I will preface this question with saying that i am not a a tech savy person so please use layman terms and treat it as though i a don't know everything there is to know about apple products.
I get the following pop up message on my phone everytime it resets or powers on and occasionally throughout the day.
    [Cannot Verify Sever Identity
The identity of "phobos.apple.com.lp.mydas.mobi" cannot be verified by phobos.apple.com.lp.mydas.mobi/sites/E/ESPN/MM_47763/ESPN_College_GameDay.ics. Review the certificate details to continue.]
Now i have no idea what would cause me to get this message as i am a girl i hate sports i would never bother to go on an ESPN site on my phone or computer or even bother to pause for more than a second on ESPN on my computer so I'm compeleltey confused how i have an error on my phone for what i presume is an ESPN site or app idk.
Please help me get rid of this ****** server error because i am at the point where i am considering taking a hammer to my phone -_-
When i view the details there is no option to delete this error or whatever might be causing it so i am stuck in this matrix of pop up window server identity error and i cannot take it.

    Hi Progmusicman,
If you are having an issue with touch ID on your iPhone, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
    Using Touch ID on iPhone
    Specifically -
Make sure that you're using the latest version of iOS.
Make sure that your fingers and the Home button are clean and dry.*
Cover the Home button completely. Don't tap too quickly, don't press down hard, and don't move your finger while Touch ID is scanning. Make sure that your finger touches the metal ring around the Home button.
If you're using a protective case or screen protector, it must leave the Home button and the surrounding ring completely unobscured. If it doesn't, remove the case or screen protector and try again.
Tap Settings > Touch ID & Passcode and verify that:
iPhone Unlock or iTunes & App Store is on.
You enrolled one or more fingerprints.
    Try enrolling a different finger.
If you can't enroll any of your fingers, take your iPhone to an Apple Retail Store, Apple Authorized Service Provider, or contact AppleCare for further assistance.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Brett L

  • Mobile Account Home Folder syn error

I have a macbook pro client syncing its home folder with a mac mini with lion osx server. if i have iTunes running on the client, i get a home folder sync error that there was a problem syncing the file "iTunes library.itl". There home folder syn works fine if itunes is not running on the client.
Any suggestions to allow me to keep itunes running while home folder syncs take place?

Hi, the only workaround I know of, is to uncheck the library folder from syncing, ANYTHING running live while the home folder is syincing (MS office for example, it's DB is in your docs folder, will cause a sync error, as well as iphoto.. etc.. the only other way to fix this, is to set it to sync manually at login & logout. I wish my issues were that easy

  • HP MediaSmart Home Server EX 490 won't boot up and can't recover - running Windows XP

Recently my Home Server launched successfully and I had it available on my new home network. I played a video on .api format via ethernet cable to my tv and I could see the server in my network directory.
A few days ago I tried to access the server with a brand new MacBook through a wireless browse. I couldn't access as a guest so I decided to try to launch it with a direct ethernet connection from the old PC which I used to set up the server in 2010 (running Windows XP 2002 edition SP3).
The server did not boot up properly and i have had a flashing red light since in the status light (far right) on the front of the server.
I have attemped a recovery using the disks that came with the server and following instructions from HP support when I needed to recover it once before (while it was still under warrantly and supported by HP). The recovery process looked like it was working until it reached an "Unidentified Error" at Stage 4.
Has anyone got any advice about how I could resintall the OS on the Server in this state while making best endeavour to not lose the data? Is the OS on the SYS drive and is that the lowest drive? Can I take the other drives out and rebuild the OS then put them back in and access the data? HP have had me chasing wild geese for hours over the phone and I'm ready to explode.

Correction: Recovery process failure at Step 2 of 4

me the option to browse or click okay. Browse only brings up the (x:) Boot drive and VID. It doesn't find the driver in VID Than if I click okay it gives me a message that says "No Device Drivers were found. Make sure that the Installation media contains
the correct drivers and then click ok" I have tried to use smart provisioning but this fails as it cannot recognise the media from the DVD drive.
    Thanks in advance,

You should use HP smart start DVD to install the Windows Home Server. If you are booting directly from the Windows DVD it would some times not detect the drivers because of the hardware compatibility issue. You should contact the the vendor and seek help
    from him.

  • Windows home server 2011 Backup with PC Windows 8 Pro - Backup failed (Unsuccessful)

On the PC under Windows 8 Pro, Event message: Backup job 1 on HCGSERVER did not succeed.  Reason: ClientVssProblem, System.String[]
     Windows Operating System; Version: 6.1.8800.16385; ID: 514;
On the Server, following message:An error prevented backup from creating a snapshot of volumes on this PC
Could you help on this issue? Many thanks in advance

Your Win8 PC is likely to have come with UEFI and uses GPT hard disks, so you need to install a hotfix on the server to allow it to back up the client PCs.
There’s a separate fix for each server version:
    SBS 2011 Essentials
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2781270
    Windows Storage Server 2008R2 Essentials
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2781274
    Windows Home Server 2011
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2781272
Install the hotfix, reboot the server, and you should be able to back up the PC, although in my experience, you also need to exclude any partitions on the PC that don't have drive letters.
