IMac i5 Quad how much memory??

I currently own an iMac i5 quad 2.6ghz with 4GB of Ram.
System runs great, but I plan to do some heavy Photo editing and maybe light Video Editing.
Up intill now the 4GB has been more than enough (I'ved owned this system for 1 year), but now my time is more precious to me (but cost is always an issue too).  So I would like to speed things up bait.
So here goes, who here has the same iMac as me but with 8GB of Ram..is 8GB enough or are you planning to Max out your Ram because its not enough.
Thanks for your feedback, as I am debating going 2GB upgrade vs 4GB upgrade removing 1GB of memory from each slot at a time.
I've checked Crucial.com and they sell the  2GB for $23.99 vs 4GB for $46.99

Hi,
I have the exact same machine myself and have had it since late 2009.
For me too it has always been ok, though recently with a lot of multi-tasking and running VMware all at the same time I have noticed its started to struggle a bit.
This has been more prominent in Garageband once I have quite a few tracks running.
Anyway I have just updated mine to 12GB by using the 2x4gb upgrade kit from crucial as it was cheaper than buying 2x2gb kit from my local supplier.
Just hoping that it solves my slow downs and spinning cursor now.
Cost for this was dirt cheap though at £58 (about $90 ish)
I'd say for what it costs go for the 2x4gb option, don't forget once your slots are full, your going to have to replace all four to get any more out of it as it wont take any bigger than 4gb sticks anyway..

I have IMac OSX 10.9.4, 4GB,Processor 3.06 with Intell2Duo. I would like to check for Malware. I run a TechTool Pro 6 every month and that comes up great.
When check how much memory I am using, with only Safari open I am using 3.9 and more of her 4.0 memory. She is very. very slow in processing. I had 4000
trash to clean out and it took her over an hour to expel. Also for some reason Safari will not allow me to click on a link, in my G-mail, and let it go to the page.
It has a sign saying a pop-up blocker is on and will not let me do it. I must open the stamp to look at my e-mails and if I have redirected link now I can do it.
I have not changed my preferences so where is this pop-up blocker?
I have looked at preferences on Safari and Google, which I do not understand Google, and do not see where this blocker could be.
Malware is something I want to make sure is not on my computer. Tech Tool Pro 6 is all I know of and it does not detect Malware.
    Help.

  • How much memory can i put in my imac

how much memory can i put in my new imac

Assuming it's a 27" 2012 machine, it will accomodate up to 32GB. I'd strongly recommend reputable vendors such as OWC (www.macsales.com) or Crucial.
If you bought a 21.5" iMac the RAM is not upgradeable. The 21.5" machines will accomodate up to 16GB from Apple however you have to order the machine with 16GB directly. OWC does provide RAM upgrade kits for the 2012 210.5" iMacs however it is MAJOR surgergy and is full of risks including fatally damaging the machine and invalidating the warranty.

  • How can i find out how much memory i have left on my imac

i have an iMac and i dont know how to find out how much memory i have left on my computer.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    smash adams,
If you're talking about hard disk space, open Finder, click once on your hard disk (left column) and look at the bottom of the Finder window.
If you're talking about RAM, Finder >Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.
Open Activity monitor and click the System Memory tab.

  • I have an iMac OS X Version 10.5.8 but I also have a MacBookPro 10.7.5 version, why software updates are not the same? For example, when I want to know how much memory can not store in the same way in either computer.

I have an iMac OS X Version 10.5.8 but I also have a MacBookPro 10.7.5 version, why software updates are not the same? For example, the way to see how much memory I have in my iMac is diferent than MacBookPro. And where I can see the memory of the disc I've got in my iMac? Than you very much.

If you want everything the same on both computers you need to be running the same OS X version. You can't because your iMac is a PPC machine, not Intel.
But to see information about your hard drive is the same for both. Simply select the drive icon on the Desktop. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. Disk information is in the upper panel.

  • I have an iMac 5,1 with an Intel Core 2 Duo. I'd like to be able to use iCloud, but need Lion which is too big. How much memory can I add? And will this upgrade allow me to install Lion?

I have an iMac 5,1 with an Intel Core 2 Duo. I'd like to Lion, in order to use iCloud, but the specs indicate I don't have enough memory. How much memory can I add? And will this upgrade allow me to install Lion?

I believe your model iMac can address 3 GB RAM; the minimum for Lion is 2 GB - however, that is an absolute minimum for very light use. You would be much happier with a minimum of 4 GB.

(You can install 4 GB, but it will only be able to address about 3.1 - 3.2 GB)

  • My mac is runnug out of disk space. Do /i need to by external drives?  how much memory should i get

My imac is running out of disk space. I download a lot of media from itunes. The HD movies and TV shows use so  much space. Should I switch to the cloud, clean up my memory or buy an external memory drive? If i get an external drive how much memory is suggesyed? 1TB, 2TB or more?

Buy an external hard drive on which to save your media. The drive should be large enough to handle your entire iTunes Library plus how much you would anticipate adding to the library over the next few years. Then backup your existing library to the external drive: iTunes- Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive.
After you have backed up the library to the external drive you can configure iTunes to use the library on the external drive in iTunes > Preferences > Advanced. Change the path to the external drive. Once you do that quit and relaunch iTunes. It should now be using the library on the external drive. Now you can delete the library on the internal hard drive to free up the space.

  • How Much Memory Does RECORD VIDEO Require?

    Welcome to Discussions, Sandolini
In addition to the info that Ralph has already provided, I offer one additional thought.
Ralph is my guru on iChat, so I am sure he can correct me if I am mistaken, but I believe that iChat 4 (the one in your posted Mac OS X 10.5.8 system info) adjusts camera frame rates and possibly video window size based on connection and processor speeds. I also seem to recall that the maximum video size for iChat 4 is 320x240.
iChat 4's video size/quality decisions are made based on the info from both ends of the video connection. If I am correct, different users could, therefore, experience different video data capture rates, possibly even when connecting to different chat contacts. These capture rates translate directly into different file sizes for recorded videos. In any case, most iChat 4 recordings (maximum size of 320x240) are likely to be considerably smaller (at least one-fourth to one-third smaller) than the 640x480 video iMovie captures from external iSight.
My suggestion is that you record a one minute test, if possible with the same video chat connection. If recording success will be a critical, one-opportunity-only event, you may wish to make several one minute tests to see if there is enough variability that you must account for it. Once you know the file size for a one minute recording, you can calculate ninety times that to find the maximum estimated space required for your ninety minute recording.
When determining your needed space, be sure you leave the extra space Ralph recommends.

  • How much memory for the G5 2.7?

    I am buying a refurbished G5 2.7 from Apple.
The primary application will be Pro Tools HD2 for audio mixing.
    QUESTIONS:
    (1) How much memory will I likely need? 2GB? 4GB?
    (2) I will buy the memory from Crucial. Should I remove the original memory and use only the Crucial 1GB pairs, so they are matched?
    Powermac G5 2.7   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

No need to remove the original RAM.
How much to install depends on how you'll be using ProTools. If it's only audio (no sample players), 2GB would probably work perfectly. If you're using samplers heavily, with lots of large samples, you might want to go to 5-6GB.
I'd start with 4GB, RAM for these is cheap (compared to RAM for the Mac Pro.)

  • How much memory can I install in my mac book pro?

Mac book pro 2.4 GHz late 2011 i7....How much memory can I install? Currently have 4Gb but want to run Win 7 on VMware and want to make sure my user has enough

The position of Apple is that the Late 2011 can take 8 GB, however, OWC, http://www.macsales.com and Crucial, http://www.crucial.com both guarantee their 16 GB ram packages to work.  Both are sellers of high quality ram that is guaranteed to work in Macs.

  • How can I check how much memory is on my external hard drive after I plug it in. What are the steps I need to go through?

Im looking for a specific how to on checking how much memory I have left on and external HD. Any help would be wonderful.

If you're on your Mac OS, click on the little Apple sign in the top left corner of the screen and select About This Mac. Then, if you have your external HD plugged in, go to Storage, and there you should see all HDs (internal and external, USBs, etc) space and how much you have left on them. On a Windows OS, just go to My Computer to see.
