IMac i7/FW Hard Drive/FW Interface, working systems

Could you please list your iMac/FW Hard Drive/FW Interface set ups and experience.
Am about to make an investment and wanted to see which configurations are working well for others.
Thanks

Hi Joel;
Only if you want the data on the hard drive corrupted.
Mac OS X does not have the code necessary to do multi-host locking so it is highly recommend that you refrain from having a hard drive connected to two computers at the same time.

  • IMac has new hard drive; HP 4480 works as printer but no longer able to scan. What's going on???

Hard drive failed; now have new drive; am able to use copier/printer but SCAN function doesn't work on my IMac.
    HELP!

    Hey @CSAB ,
So my name is Zac and I will be helping you out from HP today!
I understand you are able to print and copy; but, you are unable to scan.
Is the printer hooked up USB or wireless?
If wireless, please try a scan from a USB connection and let me know.
How are you trying to scan? Like steps and what program?
Happy new year! Have a great day and get back to me when you get a chance.

  • IMac not reading hard drive, spotlight not working, all my files not showing... help!!!

    Hi folks,
I got home from a three week trip and turned on my imac, at first i realized it was running extremely slow. Then i plugged in my external hard drive, and it didn't read. I checked in disk utilities and profiler, and my hard drive was there, just not appearing in finder or desktop. I couldn't mount (it was grey) the hard drive in disk utilities either. (I tried with other hard drives, same problem; they all worked before)
Afterwards, I found out that spotlight wasn't working at all, it wasen't even initializing (see attached screenshot). When i opened "all my files", nothing appeared in the window - it was blank. Another thing is, launchpad scares me - it loads incredibly slow and the screen keeps refreshing itself.
Please help!! I don't want to reinstall the whole system and lose all my file, cause right now, I cannot backup anything since it won't read my hard drives!! Could this be some kind of apple-virus..
Anyone else with a similar situation? My system is 10.7.5, processor: i3

This is not related to any kind of malware.
It sounds like something is going very wrong with your machine, but I'm unsure what that might be that would prevent all external hard drives from working. Are you able to start up in recovery mode (hold down command-R at startup)? If so, from recovery mode, open Disk Utility and select your internal hard drive. What does the SMART Status say?

  • When ever the power goes out or I restart my iMac the external hard drive that is used by Time Machine for backups is dismounted ?

When ever the power goes out or I restart my iMac the external hard drive that is used for backups by Time Machine is dismounted and all backups are gone. I can reselect it and it will start working again, but I am worried if the iMac hard drive should fail will I be left without a backup ?

"Mac OS X can't repair the disk.  You can still open or copy files on the disk, but you can't save changes to files on the disk.  Back up the disk and reformat it as soon as you can."
It's possible a heavy-duty 3rd-party disk repair app can fix it, but they're expensive (DiskWarrior is about $100), and there's no guarantee it can do it.
Am prompted to reformat but I don't have a good understanding of what this means and how to do it.
That will erase it.  See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #5.
It sounds very much like the disk is beginning to fail, although it's possible there's a bad port, cable, connection or power supply (if it has its own).
I'd suggest getting a new one, and using it for your Time Machine backups; once you have a good backup there, reformat the old one (and select Security Options to write zeros to the whole drive -- if that fails, you know the drive is toast).  Use it for secondary backups, per FAQ #27.   If it has failed, get a second new one for secondary backups.

  • Help iMac G4 15" hard drive is 0.00 Volume

    Hi
    Plz help
A flashing question mark appears when i start my iMac G4 15" when i insert installer CD its run and my hard drive is 0.00 Volume, I try partition and Format its not working.
Plz tell me how to fix.
    Thank You

What is your iMac model?  It would seem that your internal hard drive has failed since it is not found at startup.  Depending on the model of your iMac, replacing the hard drive could be either easy or difficult.

  • Which imac?  Which hard drive?

Have an old purple imac with dead hard drive. Have removed drive, and would like to replace drive, but cannot determine which model imac it is, since the drive is not working. It's at least a 350, because it's slot-load. This drive is a Quantum 30 GB AT Fireball Plus AS, which i do not think is the original. As it is only used for word-processing these days, don't need 30 gb, but don't know how to determine which drive would be ok.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

  • TS1600 I received a 2008 Imac with erased hard drive.  I have the two discs to install OS X but when it tries to boot just  comes up Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer. Is there anything I can do to get this running

I rceived a 2008 Imac with erased hard drive.  They gave me the two install discs but it keeps coming up cannot install OS X on this computer.
Is there anything to do. Thanks hopefully

Well, Apple would probably point out that what you are trying to do violates the EULA.
Technically speaking, however, the issue is that the install/restore DVDs that ship with Macs do not carry all the drivers, or even all of the various versions of libraries that support all of the various models of Macs. The come-with-your-Mac disks are different than the retail versions of the OS (also, the come-with-your-Mac ones bundle iLife, which the retail ones don't).
Because the come-with-your-Mac disk contains only the drivers specific to that generation and model line of Mac, it contains a stub of code that verifies that your hardware matches the driver set on the install/restore DVD.
Your friend has a different model of Mac, with different hardware, so her install/restore disk won't work in yours. Solution: go get the retail boxed version of Leopard.

  • My late 2009 iMac 27 inch hard drive just failed and is being replaced. It did not qualify for call back but I am wondering if there is others with similar issue

As I stated my late 2009 iMac 27 inch hard drive failed and is being replaced.. I am being charged as machine does not qualify for the call back program..call backs are on 2011 machines.. However i am in shock that my segate internal iMac hard drive failed in less than two years.. are there others with similar issue? Also when I get machine back will new hard drive be stable .. How do I make sure my working environment is reliable.. I have all my data and work backed up and will be able to rebuild my system but I really do not want to have to go through this down the line again.

Just to update everyone and maybe help people down the road .... It has been a week of **** .... I may have finally solved a problem that I have seen a ton of people in all different types of discussions around the world having trouble with ...... I am going to upload some pictures of what I was getting in the beginning and it came out of no where .... I had the random pixel problem with my display and to make a long story short I came across an article two days ago regarding internal temperatures and fan speed ...... I kept reading about apples approach which is not the point  .....  More importantly I dug deeper into temperature control and fan settings .... I discovered all kinds of software and there is only one in my eyes that can help anyone dealing with this display problem .... I will be honest,  I do not have the money right now for anything extra and am barely getting by and that is why I kept at it ... I figured keep trying different things because  a repair is out of the question ... http://www.crystalidea.com/macs-fan-control   -   This program has solved my problem - I get to adjust three internal temperatures inside my Imac and slowly but surely as the temperatures remained constant the display is fine .... Like new again .... I cant believe it ..... Turns out the ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB graphics card gets very hot causing it to not do what it is supposed to   ..... Anyone that has any questions do not hesitate to contact me ...... I am going to upload some pics .... They are not that clear but if you are going through this you will recognize the images for sure - There was   so many more variations but this should help out - Thanks to everyone that takes the time out to help people on this support site .... I want to send a shout out to The Art Of Sound .... He is the most knowledgeable Apple person I have ever come across and I am an Apple user for 20+ years

  • How do i get itunes to display my library (which is on an external hard drive)?  It worked OK on old PC, but not new my new laptop.   They are M4A files. are

My itunes library used to be on a PC - but shortly before the PC went to PC heaven I transferred the library onto an external hard drive.  It worked fine.   Now I have a laptop - but I can't get itunes to pick up the library location.   I have changed in advance preferences, but the library does not display.  I have tried holding down shift when starting itunes - but when I do that it looks for *.itl files, and all my files are M4A files.  What do I do next?

You mean you transferred the media, not the library...
Now I have a laptop - but I can't get itunes to pick up the library location
The library location is in your /Music/ oflder.
Your media files (not yet in your new iTunes library ) is on the external drive.
I have changed in advance preferences, but the library does not display.
Because you have not yet added anything to your library.
    Quit iTunes.
On the external, create a new folder named My iTunes library (or something).
    Hold Shift and launch iTunes.
Select Choose library... and select My iTunes library on the external.
Go into Windows Explorer and move all the media files on the external into /My iTunes Llibrary/iTunes media/Automatically add to iTunes/ folder.

  • My external hard drive has stopped working on my MacBook Pro

    Hi guys,
So my hard drive, which was working earlier today, no longer registers when I plug it into my Mac. It flashes once and then stops, and it does not appear anywhere on my laptop. It still works in other laptops so I know it is not dead and other USB drives etc still register on my laptop.
I have read through the other discussions but nothing quite fits my situation. If anyone has any sort of information or advice that may help, I would very much appreciate it! Thank you.

Basically my external hard drive would not eject so i force quit it and the hard drive does not come up at all anywhere on my mac pro OS X version 10.9.4 and it isn't visible in disk utilities no and it doesn't say format either and i have tried it on a windows computer it does not show on their either. the format is Fatdos i think so i can use it on windows and mac and i cant see anything in system reports and yes it is connect by a USB. also it isn't making any noises either

  • My computers hard drive has stoped working, how can I retrieve my Itunes library from my computer?

My computers hard drive has stoped working. How can I retrieve my itunes library? My back ups were on this hard drive as well.
When I brought my computer to be fixed they said they would retrieve photos and music and documents but loose my programs. That being said I am not sure if I will recover my music from itunes because it may fall under the program category. I support itunes by purchasing from itunes, but now i am in a position where i may loose years of purchassing music and it has me feeling a little bit sick to be honest...the stress this is causing is really big. DÙoes anyone have any experience with this type of problem?
    Help is appreciated, thank you.

If the data is recoverable from the drive then they should have recovered the entire iTunes folder which includes the library database. Restore this into the <User's Music> folder of a replacement system, install iTunes, and it should be as before.
See also  Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. Even if you don't have one there should be some useful links...

  • External hard drive is not working on airport time capsule even after 7.7.2 firmware update.

External hard drive is not working on airport time capsule even after 7.7.2 firmware update.
I have the latest Airpor Time capsule 2gb. I specifically bought it so that I could have an external hardrive set up to wirelessly house my itunes library and movies. When i connect the drive, all i get is that the disk needs to be repaired.
the drive can works fine when connected to the macbook pro and I have run the verify and repair features in disk utility. I have also reset the airport timecapsule as well following these changes and still no change.
The 7.7.2 update says that it addressed the usb issue of not showing the drives but there are still problems as I cannot get it to appear.
    Please help.
    Thanks

How is the hard drive formatted?
Have you tried using a powered USB hub with the drive when it is connected to the Time Capsule?
(The USB port on the Time Capsule is borderline as far as power is concerned....you may need to use a powered hub.....even if the hard drive has its own power supply)
If the drive is formatted correctly....and....it has ample power, it will "show up" when you open AirPort Utility, click Edit, then click the Disks tab at the top of the next window.
In the example below, my Time Capsule drive is named "Backups" and another drive named "WD Drive" is connected to the USB port on the Time Capsule.
You should see the name of your Time Capsule drive (named "Data" unless you have changed the name) and the name of the USB drive if you perform the same check.
    What do you see?

  • Internal Hard Drive Doesn't Work

I am going to buy a used MacBook Pro from a friend. The internal hard drive doens't work so they have OSX running from an external hard drive. I want to replace the internal hard drive with a new one but the person I am buying it from says that the Conection between the Motherboard and hard drive is messed up. Is there a connection between the Hard drive and motherboard that I can replace?

Anything with any Mass at all is connected with an orange plastic flex cable to damp out possible shock and vibration. You can't connect the drive directly to the motherboard and have it be removeable. Original iBooks did it that way, but replacing the drive was a total tear-down.
Check on ifixit for a tear-down procedure and a replacement cable for your exact computer.
