Imac i7 won't download programs from internet

i have a problem with brand new imac I7, tried to download new itunes as old one transferred over from old imac apparently was corrupted. Nothing seemed to work from apple.com, and help desk couldn't resolve issue without finally using install dvd to get new version of itunes. Then today, tried installing firefox, couple of different sites, also went to apple.com and tried installling demo of a game.. the arrow in safari spins indicating a download is happening , but then it stops and nothing shows up , not even in the download folder? Obviously, now i am wondering about this being a software OSX problem?

Repairing disk permissions and repairing the startup disk are _two entirely different processes_
Here is how to check the startup disk for errors.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
*(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)*
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space
When you use Disk Utility from Applications/Utilities and see the SUID messages, those can be "safely ignored" .. see this link. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448
If the startup disk "appears to be ok" and you still have installation problems, then back up all important data and perform an Archive & Install, instructions here.

When I download any filed from the internet (using safari or firefox) my computer freezes up. Help!

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "Model Identifier." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

IPhoto won't download photos from camera.

iPhoto won't download photos from camera. iMac 10.6.8; iPhoto updated. No Name comes up, says "downloading," but color wheel only goes round and round. I've let it go on for 20" to no avail. Only way to get out of iPhoto then is to Force Quit. Tried downloading pictures through a Card Reader with same results.
Same camera, same procedure for last 5 years and never had this problem. Thanks for any advice.

Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder:
User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks, 10.9, go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

There is an Apple USB super drive you can buy or any Mac compatible external DVD player.
Sorry to have nagged at you but you can now see why I couldn't answer your question from the start. I had no way of knowing there was no slot in the model you have.

Try to Clear your Temporary Internet Files and Cookies. To delete your temporary internet files on the Lg Ally follow the directions below:
From the Home screen, touch the applications tab (bottom of the screen).
Touch Browser.
Press the Menu key.
Touch More
Touch Settings.
Touch Clear cache.
Some visited website content stored on the device. The cache enables the browser to download only the content that has changed since the last time a website was visited. Since the browser only downloads changed content, pages are loaded faster.
Touch OK.
Touch Clear history.
A listing of URLs (website addresses) that have been recently visited.
Touch OK.
Touch Clear all cookie data.

Is there a way to download over the PC, N8 is connected to the PC?
I'm unable to find any download button or something similiar? Besides this, I can only send 5 programs a day (Germany) to the N8.
I'm totally new to smartphones stuff!

What kind of stuff? You probably need an app that can import by File Sharing and which can "read" the stuff. A good app that may meet your needs is GoodReader.

Problems with the downloaded programs from sites on Internet

I just recently got interested in downloading a program from the site myspace.com, but I have been interested in other programs earlier in my time as a MacBook user. Unfortunately, I have not discovered how to open them properly. What is the best way to get an understanding of how to open these non-universal programs, such as Instant messenger from myspace.com?
I would like to know if I need to find the rosetta application somehow on my applications window, because I already know now, that the rosetta application won't work yet on the instant messenger that I tried to install to my computer.
If anyone has a clue about how to get my application "Install Messenger.exe to open with rosetta, like I have read about yet don't know how to get running yet, please would you be kind to send a thread to mine on apple discussions?!
This is really confusing, and I need to be able to do the instant messenger on Myspace so that I can become good friends with my new friends on myspace!

Any applications that ends in .exe is a Windows application and cannot run natively on a Mac. The only way to run those applications would be to install Windows, either via BootCamp or one of the third-party systems such as Parallels Desktop. For any of those, you'd need to purchase a copy of Windows.

My 27" iMac (2009) won't boot OSX from the internal drive

Here's a fun problem. After installing Sophos anti-virus and starting a (VERY slow) full scan, a day or two later I found my iMac frozen at the screensaver. It was completely unresponsive so I did a hard reboot, at which point it got as far as starting to boot Lion (apple logo on screen, spinning indicator showing) before stalling indefinitely in that state with the indicator spinning.
I restarted and booted from the recovery partition, launched disk utility, and discovered that the SMART status of the drive was "failing". The machine would still boot from the recovery partition and my boot camp partition, but I assumed that the disk failing was why the OSX partition wouldn't boot (the recovery partition worked, as did the windows 7 bootcamp partition). I replaced the factory-installed internal HDD with another of the same make, model, and capacity (Seagate 1TB), and performed a restore from the Time Machine backup on my Drobo.
The result was the same as the original problem - it wouldn't boot, hung with the indicator spinning. Thinking that the Sophos scan was somehow responsible (in-progress when the last TM backup was made) I tried restoring to a backup a few days older, (to the best of my recall from BEFORE I downloaded Sophos) only to have the same result.
Anyone have any ideas? I made a clean install of Lion (using the recovery partition on my old internal HDD, now connected externally via USB) to an external drive while I was waiting for the replacement hard disk to arrive, and it boots fine from that. I haven't tried a clean install to the internal HDD yet, as I'd obviously prefer to recover my installed apps as they were before, that being the point of a Time Machine backup, right?

You have a serious drive issue that likely can't be repaired that way.

If you have your data off the machine, to a storage drive (or earlier with TM)
then hold command r keys and use Disk Utility to Erase the Lion Partiton with Zero option, and reinstall Lion from Apple's servers.
use the same name (important), different password ok Software Update fully
install your programs from fresh orignal sources and return files into their respective folders
once your stable, read the backup proceedures here etc.

Why can't I download applications from Internet on my iPad mini?

Hi, I have been trying to download applications from the internet on my iPad mini but i can't download them through safari or other 3rd Party browsers. I tried downloading them through many download managers but they can't download the applications either. I tried syncing my iPad with the computer through iTunes and when I opened the app on my iPad, it said "file format not supported" even though iPad mini supports it.Please reply.

The only place to get apps or other programs for your iPad is the app store - either directly on your iPad via the App Store app or on your computer's iTunes and then syncing them. PC and Mac programs (and android apps) are not compatible with the iPad, they are different operating systems.
What were you trying to sync to the iPad via your computer's iTunes ? If it's an app that you downloaded from the iTune app store and it's compatible with iPads (some apps only work on iPhones) then you should be able to sync it - if it's not syncing then have you tried deleting the app from your computer's iTunes and re-downloading it from the store ?

How to download photos from internet as desktop

trying to download photo from the internet and set it up as a desktop photo. If I use Save as... option, it would save the whole page that cannot be used at all.
I don't wanna mention PCs, but as I still have to use it at work, I rightclick on the photo and save the photo only. So I am looking for something similar on Mac.

Help: contacts won't download/sync from Mobile Me to iPhone?

My new iPhone won't download old contacts from MobileMe. It will sync any new contacts or calendar event I add to either the iPhone or Mobile Me, but not the existing ones.
Basically, I bought my first iPhone a couple of days ago. I just followed the prompts and ended up sync'ing it with gmail as well as pulling all the contacts off my old SIM and phone. But I ended up with lots of duplicate contacts. So I set up a Mobile Me account and uploaded all the contacts from the iPhone, no problems. Then I cleaned up all my contacts on Mobile Me, got rid of duplicates etc.
Then I reset my iPhone to clear all data so I could start afresh (I've only had it a day or two so there wasn't much to lose). I thought I would be able to easily pull all the nice, clean contacts down from the cloud. But the only contacts that will sync are new ones, not the old ones.
If I add a contact on Mobile Me, it downloads to the iPhone. If I add a new contact on the iPhone, it uploads to Mobile Me. But the hundreds of old contacts I have amassed over many years and many different mobile phones are stuck in the cloud and won't come down!
All these contacts only ended up on Mobile Me after being sent from my iPhone, so not sure why it won't take them back.
I'm on a PC. I have sync'd the iPhone with iTunes since I reset it. And I have downloaded the latest version of the iPhone OS since I reset the phone. I have tried turning off all sync'ing and then turning it on again - the iPhone asked if I wanted to merge data, I said yes, but it didn't download any of the old contacts.
Obviously sync works, but why won't it get my old contacts?!
The only thing I haven't tried is resetting all sync data - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1497. However, how can I back up my Mobile Me data before I erase it? I didn't think my Mobile Me contacts would sync with a PC?

Turn off contacts in MobileMe on the iPhone and choose keep contacts on the iPhone
Connect iPhone to iTunes and enable sync contacts to Windows Address Book or Outlook 2003 or higher. Now there should be a copy of the contact on the computer.
Make sure you have installed and configured the MobileMe control panel on your computer. And set it up to sync contacts. Choose the best copy(Cloud or Computer)for the initial sync(can be from Cloud to computer or computer to cloud).

Once the computer and Cloud have the correct info then slide contacts back to on within the Mail Contacts Calendars on the iPhone and choose replace iPhone with info from the Cloud.
Uncheck Sync Contact with computer within iTunes on Info tab(if you do not then you will get duplicates).

Downloaded application from internet are not resuming aft OS restart.

I am downloaded one antivirus from internet.
It started downloading the latest defination and while downloading I restared the OS.... So I believe it should also resume as it is an OS feature ?right
My 2nd que is if it is not resuming then this should be a bug of OS or that application.

First of all, I do not think it is healthy for your machine in any way to start a process like you are describing and then just shut the machine off. After doing some tests, your machine should require you to close/stop the processes/applications after selecting to shutdown/restart your machine. Once you turn the machine back on it reopens the application/process that was opened prior to shutting down/restarting. However, I don't think it will resume with the process where you left off, but then again I really didn't test that part out.
For all intended purposes, Apple says that 'Resume' is basically a feature that allows you to not lose what you are currently doing within an App. in regards to having it open and then having to restart your machine because a software update requires you to.
