IMac install ?

iMac install ?  Can dowload software (and a filter software) to Finder apparently fine, however, it won't install after double clicking to open or selecting open from File pulldown menu. Why?  Also after fidgeting with it, notice the download might disappear from the Finder menu after trying to open it (not deleting it)... hmmmm.  Any thoughts?  (thank you)

for Critical Thinking Co. educational software, the download actually disappears from the Finder after awhile.  I've downloaded several times now.  The file format is Mac Os X  Instructions are:
The serial number key is your 'proof of purchase' and can be used only once per license that you purchased. After installation you will need to enter in the serial number key to activate your software. We suggest printing this email and saving it for future reference.
Probem is that no window ever opens up asking for the serial # key....  just never installs foe some reason
But not just this one, also trying to install a filter
for Net Nanny filter software, the file format is DMG. Instructions are:
Once the download is complete, you will need to install the software which will take just a few moments. You will need to restart your computer after the installation is complete. You will be prompted when it is time to restart.
After your computer has been restarted, you will need to set up your account and filter settings (if you want settings different from the default settings). Again, this will take just a few short moments.

  • Can I use my iMac Install Disc on Macbook Pro?

Hi, all.  I was given a friend's old Macbook Pro and I'd like to put Boot Camp on it, but the Boot Camp instructions say I need an OSX Leopard install disc to do it.  Naturally, I just recently purged my own software binder and threw away all of my OSX discs except the one that came with iMac I recently purchased.  "Why would I need them any more?" said I.  Doh.
I have no idea what cat Apple is up to now, but the Macbook is running 10.5.8 and the install disc from my iMac is 10.6.7.  My questions:
    1) Can I use my iMac install disc on my Macbook Pro, which is about 3-4 years old?
    2) Does OS 10.6.7 qualify as Leopard?  If not, will it work for what I'm trying to do?
    3) Do I need to update the Macbook OS to 10.6.7 to be able to use that disc for the Boot Camp install?
Any information or advice would be appreciated.  Thanks!

The only thing I'd add to this is that at one point in time you could go to an Apple store and purchase Lion on a USB stick.
If your MBP was compatible and you could find one of those you could boot to it, install from it then setup bootcamp.
Also if you are thinking bootcamp, also consider VMWare Fusion or Parallels which allow you to run Windows while still in OS X.

  • Can my Late 2006 Imac install windows 8.1?

So, i guess the title says it all, can my late 2006 iMac install windows 8.1 with bootcamp.
I'm a total mac noob, so i'm sorry if i sound like an idiot for asking this, it's just that i've found since i'm limited to Lion 1.7.5, i can't really do much, and since upgrading to Yosemite doesn't seem possible at all, maybe windows 8.1 is worth a try
So, could someone help me out and let me know if it's even possible to do this?
    Thank you in advance
    - Angus

You can test with Virtualization engines like VMware Fusion. Parallels or VirtualBox. These do not have native access to hardware, so may be slow and laggy.
You can also look for used/refurbished Macs or Windows PCs to see if they can help. If mobility is not a requirement, consider a desktop system as an option.

Have you tried one of those CD cleaning Discs yet?
Have you done a PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...

In fact, do 3 in a row, takes a bit of time.

  • Purchased a new iMac - installed CS5 CD - message - Installer failed to initialise....

Purchased a new iMac - installed CS5 CD - message - Installer failed to initialise....

You need to copy all the installer disc to the desktop, Folder by folder. for example, Copy the contents of Payloads folder on Disc 2 to payloads folder of Disc 1, Extension to extensions, etc
Then you will see the setup.app file on the Folder that you created on the desktop.
    Run that and check.

  • Mac OS X v10.3 using the iMac Install CD

I know a year or two again (wow... I really don't even remember how long it was now..!) I tried ordering Mac OS X from OWC. They gave me these crappy iMac install CDs instead, which I wasn't terribly happy about. I was even less happy when it didn't work with XPostFacto. I know a few of your expressed similar annoyance with OWC for being (presumably) intentionally misleading; I was just wondering if anyone knows whether or not it's possible to install it off such CDs now that XPostFacto is in its new (version 4) incarnation.
Any ideas? I don't really use my Beige G3 anymore (a lot of this has to do with space, and the fact that my dad has switched the monitor he got for me with the crappy one he was using...), but I'd be very interested to use Mac OS X on it.
I guess I MIGHT buy Mac OS X CD again.. but then, I really don't feel like waiting all that time, plus I'll probably get a MacBook Pro or something when I transfer to another college after this semester... actually it kind of feels wrong getting rid of this Toshiba laptop which I got only 1.5 years ago.. despite the fact that I was never really overly fond of it, and it is missing a key... and the shift's bent out of shape..
    Anyway.. any thoughts?

    Hi Dan,
Just a couple of points. For OS 10.3 used XPF 3, XPF 4 is for installing OS 10.4, exclusively I believe. OS 10.3 has been very stable on my G3 and I don't see enought advantage to try and upgrae to 10.4.
If you plan on getting a MacBook Pro be aware that intel based Mac's will not run OS 9 software. I don't think that little caveat is very well advertised by Apple. Apple does have a beta version of software named "BootCamp" which will let you boot a MBP so as to run PC software. Also, a current application(?) "Parallel" enables use of PC software on the MBP, I believe. I haven't used either one, still haven't got over having to abandon lots of very useful OS 9 software.
    Good Luck,
    Don Rieg

  • I have 2009 IMAC installed with latest OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. But I don't have Ilife ,I can't find from my system.OS X 10.8 normally coming with Ilife ? It's true. Then how can I find Ilife?

I have 2009 early Imac installed with latest OS X Mountain Lion. But I can't find Ilife from my system. Normally Mountain Lion coming with Ilife loaded, it's true? But I can't find Ilife applications. Pls, advice me.

It is my understanding that iLife is not included with Mountain Lion, but with a new Mac... You only get it pre-installed as part of a hardware purchase.
I am not an expert, but hopefully someone else will be able to confirm this, and if correct it means you wil have to purchase iLife seperately from the Mac App Store.
    Sorry!
Update: If you visit the online Apple store and start to order a new Mac, you will see that iLife is not included and can be added as an extra purchase.
You will have to purchase this seperatley.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The hard drive is not formatted, and it must be formatted in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" in order to install OS X.
Close the OS X installer, and go to Utilities menu (on the menu bar) > Disk Utility. Then, format your hard drive in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" as Format > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html Finally, close Disk Utility and install OS X

  • Imac install on ibook

Is it possible to install an imac install disk on my ibook? I want tiger on my ibook and imac is the only tiger disk I have.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
If you don't mind the CD version of Tiger, it can be found here:

  • Why will my isight g5 not let me install osx 10.5.2 from an imac install disk

i have a isight g5 with tiger running on it. i have purchased  some osx 10.5.2 imac install disks, but when i try to install it on my g5, i get the message "this cannot be installed on this computer"  i was led to beleive that 10.5.2 should be ok.

You were mis-led. Machine specific installer DVDs may not work at all on other models. Furthermore, the Leopard DVD you have was probably intended for use on an Intel iMac and will not work on a PPC machine.
Use the installer DVD that came with your computer or purchase only a Retail Leopard installer set.

  • IMac: Install Java 7 need help!

Hello, I've an iMac with the newest software version, I want to install java 7 on it for a game server, but when I download it from java.com and I install it and start the server, it still says: Computer on java 6, update to 7 to run server. I already tryed to install with Terminal and direct acess to System Library, it shows that java 7 is installed, but I have to delete java 6. When I delete all java versions, apple says I have to install java SE6, what isn't java 7 but java 6! Help please!!!

The Oracle JRE is only a web plugin. If you need server-side Java, you'll have to use the Apple-supplied Java 6 runtime, or else the Oracle JDK (which is not a drop-in replacement for Apple's Java.) If your server application depends on Java 7, you'll most likely have to run it on another operating system.

  • New iMac install problem with Front Row

Hi I just got my imac yesterday, the desktop intel core duo with mac os x tiger. It comes with front row but when I clicked on it to open, it said I needed to install, so I followed the instructions to the letter, and when it starts to install front row, it says: "there were errors installing the software. Please try installing again." Which I did repeatedly, plus restarting. No go. Can anyone give me a tip on what I should try next? Thanks. you can email me [email protected]

Normally to activate Front Row you press the Menu button on the Apple Remote that came with your Mac or you can use the keyboard shortcut of Command(Apple) + Escape.

  • Pre-intel iMac installing Snow Leopard?

Have been told by Apple that the Serial Number for my pre-Intel iMac enables me to install Snow Leopard (currently running 10.4.11). Is this straightforward or should everything be backed up before the installation? I had previously been led to believe that it wasn't possible to instal SL on this Mac. Confused and needing some clarity. Thanks.

Snow Leopard requires an Intel Processor.  Here are the specs:
    General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Either they were wrong or your system does have an intel processor.  You should be able to determine that with "about this Mac".
    Regards,
    Captfred

  • IMAC INSTALL DISC USED FOR MAC BOOK

I have an imac - just upgraded to Lion .... I just bought a mac book running on leopard.  (refurbished one - nothing installed on it)
I have the installation dics that came with the imac (purchased it when it was running on leopard)
can I use them on the mac book to install iphoto / idvd etc?
    Thanks!

If the disks have a grey face then they are machine-specific and you can't do that.
If they are full retail copies, then you can but you need iLife'11 for Lion.
