IMac installation discs 1 & 2 being recognised as blank DVD-RW

Hi
I'm trying to install the Boot Camp software to my newly installed Windows Vista, but my iMac installation discs are both being recognised as DVD-RW's, and appear blank.
Anybody got a clue what's going on?
Thanks a lot!

If you run System Profiler, is the external optical drive being recognized?
If you insert a regular disc into the drive, such as a music CD, does it show up on your Desktop?

  • External hard drive which used to be recognised by my new iMac is no longer being recognised?

I recently bought an iMac. I have an external hard drive which was formatted to my old MacBook Pro. Initially it worked fine on my new iMac, but all of a sudden it is not being recognised by it. Any ideas what I can do?

The drive is probably probably starved for power. As electric motors age, they can demand more power. Get a powered USB hub and I suspect your problems will go away.
If you purchase another hard drive for a desktop Mac in the future, consider one that is self-powered. Much less troublesome.
Some people have reported that, if they reformatted the external drive for Mac (most are formatted for Windows), the existing drive may work without a hub. You can refomat the drive with Disk Utility. Select Macinstosh Extended (Journaled) as the format. This is a great strategy if you do not have to share the drive with a Windows computer.

  • Ilife disc not being recognised for download any ideas?

I bought a Mac box set to bring my laptop up to date, so it now runs on mac os x 10.6.
Everything was going fine until i got to the Ilife 9.0.3 disc, its not recognising.
I hear my hard drive churning at it a little then it just spits it out. I had no problems downloading the Iwork upgrade and the operating system upgrade, so i dont think its the hard drive.
    Any ideas folks?

Must be defective. Contact the seller or Apple and request a replacement disc.

  • HT2604 I have lost imovie. The installation disc is not recognised when I insert it. A message tells me it's a blank disc.

I have lost imovie. I have 15-inch MacBook Pro Applications Itall DVD.  When I insert the disc it is not recognised and a message comes up in itune to say I have inserted a blank disc. Can anyone help please?

Either the disk is faulty or your Superdrive is.
Try cleaning the Superdrive with a propriatory CD/DVD lens cleaner that uses tiny brushes. All computer stores sell them.

There is always a risk when repartitioning you might lose data.   Same with installing any new software.  Backup your data before installing anything new*:

  • Problem installing windows - 'The installer disc could not be found'

    Hello everyone,
I'd successfully partitioned my hard drive and am now trying to install windows. When I click on 'start installation' in boot camp assistant, there is a delay of 20 seconds and then a message, saying that 'the installer disc could not be found'. This is despite the windows CD showing up in the finder.
I've tried re-booting, re-starting boot camp and removing the CD, to no avail. For what it's worth I've also tried a friends windows CD just in case it is my one causing the problem.
    Any tips?
    Thanks in advance.
    Rob

I had the same issue with the installer disc not being found by boot camp, I tried multiple times with no luck, tried several windows vista home basic discs and made sure they were bootable, still no luck, finally I got the trial version of parallels, installed windows that way and it worked, the interesting thing is that afterwards, I left the CD I was using in the dvd drive, shut down the computer, next time I started the laptop, it wanted to boot up with the windows installation dvd I left in the drive, I cancelled, started mac os then ran boot camp and it worked fine.
Sounds to me like software issues from apple... I hope you find the solution, all this was very frustrating...

  • Blank DVD-R's won't mount even though compatible with system

Trying to copy just a couple  photos onto disc for a resume. Blank DVD-R will not mount on screen. They are accepted then rejected. Old DVD-R with information WILL mount, as well as CD-R's (audio). Using a fairly new MacBook Pro. Have checked HELP sections and computer system is compatible w/ DVD-R. So the disc drive(?) works but something that has always been very simple to do is not working. Am I using the wrong DVD? Have used this in the past so I'm confused. Any suggestions much appreciated since I need to get this done & mailed off ASAP. Thank you!

Once in a while few blank dvds may go bad.
Try to clean them or try a different batch.

I have an unknown error (1621) and my iPod is not being recognised in iTunes or the Finder, even in Disc mode.  Anyone know what's going on?

Try and force iPod into Recovery Mode:
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Connect USB cable to computer; leave the other end alone
    3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
    5. Release the Home button
    6. Open iTune
    7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
    8. Use iTune to restore iPod
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad

    Thank you
Brick and mortar stores will not carry the disc, you can get it online on Apple's online store. If you are in the USA the link is:

  • Boot Camp 4 - Installer disc not recognised

    Hi All,
I am trying to create a Windows 7 partition on my Macbook Pro (late 2009) running OSX Lion 10.7.2 with Boot Camp 4.
Clicking on "Install" button to create the partition and install Windows with the disc in the drive gives an "The windows installer disc could not be found" error. The disc is a downloaded Windows 7 installer disc image, unpacked so it looks exactly like a standard Windows install disc with all files (i.e not a single ISO or image file).
Could the content of the disc be an issue, as to why the Mac cannot read the disc? I have read in another support thread that the solution to this is to burn an Windows 7 ISO as an image (DMG?), so would keeping an ISO file on the disc work?

    miguel.loff,
Your instructions were so helpful! I was struggling with this for a few days. I tried multiple times to burn the .iso file onto the DVD and this was the only method that worked. Bootcamp Assistant replied with "installer disc could not be found" for all other attempts. If you are downloading Windows 7 from the internet (from your school or something), then DEFINITELY USE THIS METHOD BECAUSE IT WORKS.
Heres exactly what I did to get Windows 7 running on my Mac:
    A. Download Windows 7 file; if file is an ".img" change it to an ".iso"
    B. Follow burning method from "miguel.loff" YOU MUST USE A DVD not a CD
    1) Insert blank CD
    2) Open Disk Utility (Applications>Disk Utility)
    3) From the File menu, choose Open Disk Image and select the .iso that you want to burn
    4) In the list of volumes (at the left of the window), you will now see an item representing the .iso file. Select it.
    5) Click on the burn button and you're done.
    C. Open Bootcamp Installer on your mac and follow instructions. Download Windows 7 support software to an external hard drive. THE EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE MUST BE FORMATTED TO MS-DOS(FAT) (idk what that means but its easy to do.) In order to preserve the mac portion of your external HD, create a Windows partition for you your external hard drive [MS-DOS(FAT) ] in the same disc utility used to burn the DVD
    D. Insert Windows 7 Disc; Partiton your computer's HD, and then Windows installion will begin

  • Imac mid-2007 installation disc

Is it possible to get another installation disc for my intel imac ?
I get one of the file is corrupted and i need to get it changed.
    Thank you .^^.

    HI,
*"I get one of the file is corrupted and i need to get it changed."*
What's wrong with this disk? If your iMac can't mount the disk or boot from it, try cleaning it.
You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number. Here's a list of links to all of those -

  • Windows 7 installer disc not recognised

I'm running a mac mini 3.1 with 10.6.8. When the bootcamp assistant asks for the windows 7 installer disc, it is not recognised and ejects.
The disc can be read by my Macbookpro however, and the mac mini reads other discs. Do I need other drivers , is the mini even compatable?

Redownload and burn it at a slower setting in Disk Utility.

  • Cant get my iMac to boot up from Installation disc

I ran disc utitliy on my imac to speed up things, clean things up as its running a bit rough (slow). The utility said I had some major problems w HD and that I should restart from installation disc so it can perform the repair. Tried to boot from the original Install disc. Holding "C" on start up did nothing, it just starts off the hard drive. Held "option" key on restart and it allowed me to select the boot from drive. I selected the install disc. Then I got the gray screen w the Apple logo. And that was it. Sat there and waited 15 minutes. Nothing else came up. Did a force restart and Im back to square one. Any ideas? Im running OS 10.6.8

    Hi Colleen
Startup holding the Option key and see if your Macintosh HD is present and selectable as a startup volume?

If not, then dig out the original gray Tiger Install Disc 1 that came with your iMac and run the Extended Apple Hardware Test.

  • Can I start up my new imac (Snow Leopard) from a Tiger installation disc?

Last week I upgraded to an entirely new machine. My old imac was running on Tiger and the logic board failed. Though I had an external, I had my local Apple store transfer my hard drive data to my new mac. Since then, I've run Disc Utility a few times, each time with no problem until today.
Disc Utility is giving me the following error:
The volume Macintosh HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.
Error: This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk.
Since I don't have a Snow Leopard disc, I've tried starting up with my old Tiger installation disc, but to no avail... At the risk of sounding a little stupid, should Apple have given me a Leopard disc with my purchase?

you can not use the tiger disk. you need to use your snow leopard disk. what happened to yours? every new computer comes with one. it's called install disk one and is packaged with every new computer.

  • My new iMac 10.7.3 rejects the installation disc for Microsoft Office 2011. What shall I do?

My new iMac 10.7.3 rejects the installation disc for Microsoft Office 2011. What shall I do?

A little more description would help. What exactly do you mean by Rejects the disc? Does the DVD drive eject the disc shortly after inserting it?
Does the Office installer say something, like can't install on this Mac?
If the Office disc is ejected shortly after insertion try cleaning the disc. Try another DVD disc of any type to see if it is the Office DVD or if the drive ejects all discs.
If it ejects all DVD or CD discs then the drive is bad and you ned to Return your new Mac fro a Full Refund and then buy another NEW unit.
