Imac (Intel) 2.66mz 24inch Can I increase RAM?

Hi
I have an Imac(Intel) from 2009/2010 and am, I believe, almost at the current RAM limit. I was looking to increase the RAM having been told by the Apple store (when I purchased the machine) how easy it was. I checked the Apple Store site to buy RAM but it says 'not available for this family'. How do I increase RAM?
Thank you.
Running OS X Mavericks

I do not recommend you to buy RAM from the Apple Online Store. It is too expensive and it is the same RAM you can buy from other sources.
First of all you need the exact iMac model you have. To check this, open  > About this Mac > More Info, and you will see your iMac model below "iMac".
Then, buy the RAM for your iMac model. I recommend you to buy it at OWC or Crucial

Your only option is to sell the one that you have and buy a new one with 8 GB of RAM.

  • Can I increase RAM on an iMac 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5?

My computer has been running very slow so I went into the activity monitor and observed that I have 4GB of physical memory and I am using 3.60-3.98 GB during regular operation. Can I add RAM to this machine or is there another way to lower the GB of memory used so the machine runs faster.
My hard drive is 500GB and I have 210GB free, so I don't think it is a hard drive problem.
    Any support is much appreciated.

  • Boot up iMac Intel. Kernal Panic can't boot up computer??

I'm fixing my friend iMac Intel first generation Dual Core 32 bit.
Not the lastest one. Since I know more of him with macs.
My friend trip off the power cord of his imac by accident one morning and when
he put the cord back in to the imac to power up.
Is stuck on the loading screen apple logo with a kernal panic and can't get no where.
In the background there is text like in the terminal with saying Apple CPU Power Management Debugger.
How do I resolve this problem

    Hi Frank
Reset the SMC exactly as described in the article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
It could be that the cord or surge protector was damaged, try using a different power cord and a different surge protector.

  • Imac intel ( i think is a middle 2007) ram 667 for 800 is possible?

    hi i have a little problem ^^
i have buyed 1 new slot of ram from apple store of 2 gb 800 mhz ddr2 etc etc , i had 2 ram of 1 gb 667mhz ddr2 etc etc (is an i mac intel from middle 2007 if i remember well ), now i have installed 1 of 1gb 667mhz and one of 2 gb 800 mhz.
now i have buyed another ram 2gb 800 mhz because with snow leopard o would have a total of 4 gb.
the question is : have i made a stupid thing? because i'm not sure that my imac could support a bank of 800 mhz (i have tryed to install only the ram of 800 mhz but the machine didn't start)
so help help help i have to know if i have to send back my new ram or i could install it ^^
    ty for help and support
    joey
p.s: sorry for my bad english.-.-,

There were two iMac models where the system bus speed and the RAM speed were mismatched: the Mid '07 iMac with bus speed of 800 GHz, but RAM speed of 667 GHz; and the Early '08 iMac, with bus speed of 1066 GHz and RAM speed of 800 GHz. These two machines appear to cause a lot of confusion with Apple employees, because many folks report being misdirected by Apple employees to purchase the incorrect RAM. (Or perhaps misinformed employees of 3rd party Authorized Apple venders. Some folks confuse 3rd party venders of Apple products with being Apple!)
Those users who have been steered to the wrong RAM speed report that their iMac will usually function with one RAM bar of the faster, incorrect speed, plus one with the correct speed, but that it will not usually function with two RAM bars of the incorrect speed.
An interesting side fact is that Apple reports both these machines as topped out with a maximum of 4 GB of RAM (2 x 2 GB). However, it is now a well established fact that both machines can address 6 GB of RAM (1 x 2 GB + 1 x 4 GB). This is reported by MacTracker, Other World Computing and a poster here in the iMac Intel forums. Dave has provided screenshots of his Mac's Activity Monitor showing the Mac addressing and allocating the use of 6 GB of RAM. He owns one each of the Mid '07 and the Early '08 and reports that 6 GB of RAM has breather new life into both machines.

  • Crashing Imac intel duo 2.0. with deep buzzer sound

I've been working on a imac intel duo 2.0 gig (4 gigs ram, 250 hd) and It's been driving me crazy as it crashes between 2 and 5 times a day. I'm doing constant photo shooting and processing from capture pro to photoshop, but the files are all pretty small- like 8-12 megs each, and I have to say that I've used these programs for years and found them to be extremely stable. There is still like more than half of the hard drive available for files, and I try to keep it that way by pulling old files off it to an external drive.
Often the machine will crash while in a finder type function often early in the day, before I've even opened any photo files or apps. Usually it just freezes. Rarely it will have a screen black out, and when that happens, I hear the deep buzzing sound that must signify something- I don't know what.
I've tried running the apple disc utility, and repairing the permissiions from there, but it hasn't really helped. I've disconnected and reconnected the camera, the external hard drive, my Wacom tablet, nothing really helps. Now that I think of it, I haven't replaced the mouse- could that possibly be the cause?
Oh well, any wisdom on this topic would be appreciated, especially what is that loud buzzer trying to tell me.
    Thanks-TD

You are right it's not an available space issue so now I'm beginning to agree with Allan. If you don't know how to run AHT, please click the Hardware Test link. Run it in Extended Mode too, not using Extended Model does not test very thoroughly. If it reports back with no errors run AHT 2-3x in Extended Mode to be sure. This test is time consuming so start it and come back in about 40 - 60 minutes. If it reports errors then you can either Google them or post them here and someone will try to interpret them. However whatever the error is you should write it down and bring the machine in for service at your local Apple Store or AASP.

  • What's the best quality and cheapest 1GB RAM seller for iMac Intel?

I am looking to buy a 1GB RAM chip for my iMac Intel. However, this can be very expensive when bought straight from Apple. Where else can I get 1GB of RAM for a cheap price that will give me the quality I am looking for?
iMac Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Currently have 512 MB RAM on iMac

Yes, you can successfully use a single 1Gb module. You can just as well add a second one that isn't matched. However, it should be very easy to match RAM modules without buying the second one from Apple. To be "matched" they must both be same speed, same size, same number of component chips on both sides.
Size is easy, both 1GB. Speed is easy, both PC2-5300 667MHz. Component chips - little black square or rectangular chips attached to one or both sides of the board. Count the number on each side of the board and duplicate that configuration and the two modules, one from Apple and one from xyz company, will be "matching" RAM. If there are 4 on the front and 4 on the back, buy another like that. If there are 8 on one side, and none on the other, buy another like that.

  • Hi! 21.5" iMac Intel after

Hi! I had to reinstall OS X 10.6.8 on my 21.5" iMac Intel after which I can't install the Lion from the Apple Store I purchased last year. It downloads but comes with an error message to install. Any help is appreciated.
    Thank you.

Make sure your Mac meets Lion's requirements:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
    As for downloading issues ..
Installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo reinstalls the App Store for you which may help. It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.6.8.
Restart your Mac after the combo is installed then launch the App Store.
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed  then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.

I have recently upgraded my iMac Intel G5 iSight (iMac5,1) to OS 10.6.8 and now the internal mic does not work with skype or facebook. I can here static when playing back clips. Do I need to update firmware or reload old system parts. I have zapped PRAM. The sound seems very faint but can here static on playback.

Call Apple's online store's telesales agents: 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775. For Lion you'll get a redemptions code via e-mail and need to DL from the Mac Apple Store (requires SL 10.6.6+).

  • How can I upload digital video from a HDD camcorder to iMac Intel?

I bought a Sony DCR SR100 camcorder with 30 gig HD, and the software that comes with it is Windows only, and the Mac software that they refer you to on the internet says "not Intel Core compatible"
So get this - the online support guy from Sony says to get a digital to analog conversion card to load the video thru the AV jacks. I reminded him that I'm starting with digital video in MPEG2 on the camera's hard drive - which is essentially an external hard drive. Converting to analog didn't sound right.
So there is an easy, no-brainer way to do this I'm sure (that is I hope)
Thanks a lot for your help,
    Ellkabong
iMac Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Sony DCR SR100 HD camcorder 30 gig (nice!)

The problem (I discovered) is that the files are "muxed" which means that the audio and video are somehow intermixed, so they need to be converted into a standard that iMovieHD can read, like "DV"
There is a shareware called MPEG STREAMCLIP that converts video into other things. I tested it and it does work. I just need to figure out the most efficient way to import, convert and open in iMovie.
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
I think it is universal which is cool.
I am curious about the workstation that you mentioned to run windows software. Where can I find that?

  • What hard drive can I upgrade with on iMac intel early 2010

what hard drive can I upgrade with on iMac intel 27 inches early 2010

You can install any 3'5" SATA hard drive on a Late 2009 iMac. Have a look at OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/internal_storage/hard_drives_and_SSD
Note that Late 2009 and later iMacs have got the temperature sensor inside the hard drive. If you install a hard drive without a sensor, fans won't work correctly. Read > http://blog.macsales.com/2751-proprietary-cable-can-put-the-brakes-on-upgrading- late-09-imacs

  • Imac Intel 2006 How much ram can I put 2g or 4g

    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac4,1
    Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
    Processor Speed: 2 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 2 MB
    Memory: 1.5 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM41.0055.B08
    SMC Version (system): 1.1f
I mostly use it for recording and video and just recently its starting to hicup when running music applications. I want to max it out and was told only 2g but I wanted to make sure before I purchase the ram. I tried turning off applications that were taking up a lot of memory but it seems that I was still getting some hesitation among programs..
I currently upgraded to Leopard, 4-months ago and no hesitation never occurred till recently.
Does anyone know what application can be turned off so that I can have the ram only for big demanding programs.
I am almost maxxed out of hard drive space about 11gigs left..would that have anything to do with it? Should i just dump movable files on to my external so that the ram doesnt have to work that hard. When I check the ram usage almost all of it is being used. Any advice greatly appreciated.

If it's Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo), the 2GB (2x1GB) is the maximum RAM. If the identifier is iMac4,1, it is Core Duo
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/by_capability/mac-specs-by-machine-model-machine -id.html
I am almost maxxed out of hard drive space about 11gigs left.
That is more likely to be the problem, not lack of RAM. When free space on the hard drive gets low, the remaining space gets more and more fragmented into tiny pieces, as you write new data and delete old data. When there is plenty of free space, you have a large blocks of contiguous free space. Mac OS X needs free space on the startup volume for its basic operations. It write and reads hidden files to do things like virtual memory (used when you are low on real RAM). Some of those files can get very large, and if the remaining free space is in tiny pieces scatter all over our drive, the system may start to bog down.
You should first off-load or delete data so that you have at least 10% of total capacity as free space. That may restore performance enough so that you don't need to get more RAM. Free up more space if possible.
Then, at some point, you should back up at least your personal data. Then erase (reformat) the internal drive and reinstall the OS and software. After confirming everything is running smoothly, restore your personal user data.
Note: It is possible the performance issue is caused by your hard drive starting to fail, or a data corruption problem. So if you do not have a good backup of at least your personal user data, you should make one now. Then, you can proceed with troubleshooting.

  • Can I install Mac OS 10.4.7 CD's meant for an imac intel chip (Jan 2007)??

Can I install Mac OS 10.4.7 CD's that came from an imac intel chip (Jan 2007) ONTO an ibook power pc G3? The ibook only has a CD drive and I believe the OS installs are CD's not DVD's as there are 2 of them. The ibook currently is running OS 10.3.9 with 23 GB on the HD at the moment. I may be able to free up some space though by dumping Microsoft Office. I know for sure I had 10.4.7 on there before but I got a used HD and there is only 10.3.9 on it. Sigh.

Nope, sorry wont work, those are Machine & Architecture specific Install Discs.
