IMac Intel and Office

Is anyone having problems after installing Office 2004 on their IMac Intel? After slowing other applications down quite a bit, my IMac froze so I had to restart. Then, I got stuck on the intro gray screen with spinning gear. Called support and they advised me to perform Erase and Install. After Erase and Install, I started experiencing same problem symptoms. Now, I am unable to boot up and unable to get to my desktop! Called support and they said to do ANOTHER Erase and Install!!

Thanks for the response! Did you do a Basic Insall when installing Office? I did a custom because I did not want to install MSN Messenger. Also, do you notice any slow down of other applications? I tried opening iMovie after installing Office, and I got the dreading spinning color wheel of death. Even basic tasks like opening a new Finder window would cause me to freeze up.
Right now, I'm stuck between Apple Care telling me to call Microsoft because it's a "third party software issue" and Microsoft telling me it's a hardware issue.

  • IMac Intel and WinXP - Sharing Files Problem

    Hi there,
I want to be able to retrieve my files from my Windows XP Pro SP2 computer to my iMac Intel. Both currently are connected via a NetGear Router and have an internet connection (satellite modem). I use the installed Apple Airport Express card.
Problem is that I can't get either computer to see the other; however, I can successfully ping each one from the other one. There is no data loss, no delays. They are connected via ethernet cable from the satellite modem to the router, then from the WinXP computer to a different port on the router. Neither ethernet cable goes into the iMac.
Therefore, as I know that the IP addresses seem to be correct, what else needs to be done here? I was speaking with an Apple rep on the phone who suggested taking one ethernet cable and remove it from the router and connect it direct to the iMac and run it to the XP. Problem is that now the XP computer has no internet connection. So, I have reversed it back in order that both computers can access the internet. (I caught them at their closing time apparently as the agent wasn't on the line when I went back on to report that I had changed the cable over...)
When I select Go and then Connect to Server Settings, after about 1 minute I finally get an error message from the AFP server connection stating: "Connection Failed. The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and try again. OK."
I have disabled the firewall on the XP computer. I also removed the antispyware, the main firewall software and the antivirus software. (These are all from Freedom Software [now called ZeroKnowledge I believe].) I then reverted to the Windows Firewall and did some more tests. Nothing changed. The only difference here between this firewall being enabled and disabled is the speed with which the error message appears. If the Windows Firewall is DISabled then it takes about 2 seconds for this message to appear. If ENabled then about 1 min.
So. Any suggestions on how I can get each computer to recognise the other? I would appreciate any suggestions here. Perhaps I've missed installing something or completing a step? According to Apple I have all I need at least for the iMac. As to the XP stuff I believe it is all fine...
I'm new to all things Mac so details might be helpful for me.
    Thanks so much in advance.

So is the router negotiating the connection with PPPoE for your local network giving you one external IP address and then using DHCP to negotiate local connections for your two computers or are each of the two computers negotiating their own connection with PPPoE giving them each separate external IP addresses?

  • Problems sharing screen w/ iMac Intel and macbook

'm new to networking, so I hope someone can lead me in the right direction. I have a new iMac Intel running Leopard. I also have a MacBook2,1 running Tiger. They both are on my Airport Extreme network.
I can screen share from my iMac to my MacBook, but not the other way around. When I try to access my iMac from my MacBook I get the dreaded beachball for about a minute then it won't connect. I have "file sharing" and "screen sharing" enabled in my system prefs on my iMac.
    Am I missing something here?

I have a similar problem. I screen share with my friend who's across the Atlantic ocean. We both have Macbooks (mine is a Pro).
I can share my screen to his account but not the other way around. The option to share his screen is always grayed out. HOWEVER, if he quits his account and logs into say the "Guest" account, all of a sudden I can share his screen.
All the Sys Prefs options are the same for both accounts, so I have no idea why this is happening. We both upgraded our previous Tiger installations so I'm not sure why his is causing so much trouble.
Last thing: last nite I was able to share his screen but NOT by click on the little icon at the bottom of iChat. A totally different, long horizontal bar showed up on the screen asking me to choose either sharing my screen or his. If anyone can point me back to that option, I would appreciate it because it was the only thing that actually did work.

  • IMac Intel and CS2 using RAW

Does anyone have problems working with RAW images on CS2 and the iMac Intel machine?
Everytime I try to convert an image from RAW to TIFF ( in Bridge ) and then open in CS2 I get a window saying that it cannot open due to an error.
Any help or comment is welcome.
    Thanks
    Pedro

    Problem solved.
I re-installed Photoshop CS2 and the problem is gone.
Why it didn't work the first time, I don't know, although after finishing the installation it showed a window saying that the installation was successful....

  • Bootable clones for both iMac (Intel) and G5 (PPC) on same external drive??

Is it possible to format and partition one external firewire drive to accept a bootable clone of my iMac (Intel) on one partition and my G5 (PPC) on the other? I seem to remember that in order to be able to boot, the Intel and the PPC require something different in formatting on the drive.
If this is not possible, could I as a second choice format/partition an external firewire drive to place a bootable clone of the G5 on one partition and a Time Machine backup of the iMac on the other? I am looking for a way to store just one rather than two drives in my safety deposit box. Thanks

I put up instructions and a picture showing how to select the partition scheme:
    http://www.pinkmutant.com/articles/Leopard/leobugs.html
Scroll down to about the middle of the page.
Frankly I was surprised to find out you can boot an Intel machine from a drive that is APM rather than GUID. I'm not sure that what you want to do is going to be as easy as one would hope. Anyway, the instructions I found for dual booting off a firewire drive sounded a bit complex!

  • IMac Intel and Aperture 1.1.1

When I install Aperture 1.1 on OSX 10.4.6 and my iMac intel with 2G0 of RAM, Aperture is'nt running and if I reboot my iMac the machine no-starting (the clock is turning continualy).
After a new installation of OS X and the patch 1.1.1 of Aperture, Aperture is running.
But Aperture stop after few minutes (10 or 30, ....)!
    I search a solution

Bonjour. I also have an Intel iMac with 2Gb and it works fine. I'm not sure why you have a problem, but have you tried reparing your permissions via Disk Utility.
If you have anti-virus, was this disabled during the install, as that may have impacted a smooth install.
I'm new to Mac's myself, but hope the above is useful. I can confirm Aperture 1.1.1 works on your hardware combination.
    Merci beaucoup.

  • Deleted Garageband off my 2007 iMac Intel and no longer have the original reinstallation disk and I don't wan't to buy Garageband again. Is there any way to get it back for free?

Any help? I wouldn't mind any links to where I can install Garageband for free even if it's not from Apple. (Currently running Mac OS X 10.5.8 and will be updating the software tomorrow on February 13th to Snow Leapord 10.6)

If you don't want to purchase the latest version, you have to call Apple to get replacement DVDs for the iMac > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
When you receive the discs, just insert the Mac OS X Install Disc 2 and install GarageBand.
If you have a Time Machine backup, you can use it to restore GarageBand. First, open Finder and select Applications on the sidebar. Then, open Time Machine app and navigate through your backups to restore the application

  • Imac intel and Airport etreme

I have a dual core imac and am running a thomson speedtouch router. My ichat video has never worked and the nice bloke at apple in India tells me that I need an airport extreme for it to work. If I buy one, do i plug it into the speedtouch or do i throw it away and just use the extreme..?
    Thanks

You shouldn't have to acquire an additional router, like the AirPort Extreme Base Station. Most likely your existing Thomson router should be able to have it's ports configured to allow for iChat sessions. The following Apple Article shows which ports are necessary for iChat.

  • I have an iMac intel and it will not boot up, the loading icon just keeps turning!

  • What exactly is a Carbon Copy Cloner and does it work on iMac Intel?

A friend of mine recommended to me that carbon copy cloner is the best way to back up data including applications and that it is a freeware downloadable via their website. Can anyone explain to me (using layman's language) what exactly it is and give me a step by step procedure on what I have to do to make it work? Also, does it work on iMac Intel and if so, would I have to set anything differently??
FYI, I do have a La Cie firewire drive.

Did you check out their website? It really has a lot of info, but here it is in a nutshell.
CCC is a cloning software tool. It will make an exact - and bootable - copy of every last bit and byte on your internal drive. You can then use that FireWire drive to boot up your Mac, or restore the data from it in case of an emergency, drive replacement or failure.
It is not universal yet, but it does run through Rosetta.
Download the program and there is a PDF file with all the step by step instructions, but it is really easy to use.
BTW, LaCie has a program that is very similar called SilverKeeper.

  • Do I need to partition my hard drive to use Airport to back up my files on my iMac intel?

Airport Utility was pre-installed on my iMac (Intel) and I don't know how to use Time Machine with Airport.  I want to backup my hard drive and thought that Time Machine would do this. I receive a message to select a Backup Disc.  Do I have to partition my hard drive to have the backup on my iMac? Alternately I could purchase an external hard drive with USB 3.0.  Would Time Machine detect the USB external drive so that I could select that as the Backup Disc?  Are there any cons for Apple wireless hard drives?

The idea with Time machine is to use it to back up to an external drive. Once connected you would tell Time Machine to use that drive.
However before you do that, connect the external drive and open Disk Utility
    1. Click on the external drive
    2. Click on the Erase tab and select Mac OS extended, Journaled.
    3. Click Apply
When finished it will be formatted correctly and then open Time machine and tell it to use it as the Time machine backup disk.

  • Urgent network Imac inte and Imac G5

    Hi,
I have all my files in the Imac intel and I want to connect to it from the Imac g5 I have in the bedroom!
It always ask me a passowrd and say it is not allowed or right.
    Please how to do?
    It is urgent.

You have to enter a user name and password from the Intel iMac, not the G5 iMac.

  • New imac I7 and FCP

i am looking into getting the new imac with the i7 processor. i plan on running FCP 7 along with the usual motion and photoshop cs4 adobe after effects and lightroom 3 or lightroom 2 but my concern is this set up strong enough to run these apps without getting the {not responding] where i have to keep force quiting the apps. I have an older imac intel and i get not responding quite often when running FCP and is somewhat slow using photoshop. just before i plunk down this cash just want to know if this computer would be able to hold up.

It will run all those applications just fine.
What you need to consider is the iMac's total lack of expandability.
Ideally, you should always store your video footage on a separate drive, never on the same drive as the operating system and applications. In the iMac's case, you are limited to external FireWire 800 drives.
Will such drives be fast enough for the video formats that you intend to work with?
