IMac Intel Core 2 Duo at 2.2 GHz

Hello. A school system recently got new iMacs with the following specs:
Intel core 2 duo 2.2 ghz with 1gb of ram and OS X 10.6.4.
I work on Dells 98% of the time but looking at Apple's website, I can tell these iMacs are not current.
Can someone please explain how a school system would get iMacs this old?
I think these were in storage for at least two months.
Do you think these were refurbs that the school system received in mid 2010?
I don't know the exact screen size but I can get that info the next time I'm in front of one.
When going to about this mac it said 2.2 ghz.
I have searched everywhere and cannot find an iMac core 2 duo at 2.2.
Just wondering if the school system got hoodwinked.

Would this be the models you are talking about:

+Can someone please explain how a school system would get iMacs this old+
Since these are user to user forums, how do you expect any end user here to know the answer to that question? How about asking the school or the vendor they were purchased from? However, I'd guess that they were possibly overstocks and purchased or received as such.
If they are new and running 10.6.4 but only have 1 GB RAM, I'd recommend at least doubling that. RAM is rather inexpensive; just make sure you get the exact specs by purchasing from places such as Crucial or OWC (macsales.com); iMacs are finicky about their RAM.

  • 20" iMac Intel Core 2 Duo Display problems.

It was hard trying to sum up my problem for the thread title... so let me try and describe what I am experiencing a bit more clearly.
I have recently acquired a 20" iMac Intel Core 2 Duo,2 GHz(aluminum body black plastic back)-with display issues...
The problem is basically that there appears to be no happy middle ground in regards to contrast- it is either WAY too white or WAY too black... I would have to say it is more of an issue with CONTRAST than brightness, it appears that nothing I can do in calibrating the screen really matters.
I have calibrated displays before and never had this sort of issue. It is pretty bad (for example): a royal blue appears as black or gray mac highlight color choice appears as black.... white and medium grays appear indistinguishable.
all this in addition to the fact that there appears to be a gradient to the screen when you display a solid color neutral back ground, not too mention that it is VERY hard to look at this screen for very long and for what I do( 3D model making and texture creation) the display is pretty useless.
I have read about similar issues with this model's screen at other sites, but most of the threads ended without being resolved and were more than a year old.
This machine belonged to my in-laws and according to them, it always looked this way and when they took to back to the Apple store few weeks after purchasing it( brand new), they were told there was "nothing wrong with the display, it's supposed to look that way"... the machine was hardly used(just for iChating with our infant daughters), so I don't really think it is an issue with age or anything.
Now here is the really weird part:
I just upgraded the OS from 10.4 to 10.5 and when the machine first displayed the default 10.5 background(the Nebula one... blueish-pink with stars)... as it was going though the start up IT LOOKED RIGHT.
Once everything was done and all my icons appeared- Boom! Back to ugly.
I have noticed the same thing occur if I shut down the machine.
Startup screen, the default (nebula)background(my choice of background) comes up... it looks fine, the icons start to show up... everything still looks good and then when everything is done... BAM! UGLY!
I'm not sure what to make of this... any suggestions
One last thing- I am VERY familiar with the default background for OS 10.5, I have used it on my iMac G5 for over 2 years. When I say the displayed "looked right" I mean, it looked like what I was used to and how it appears on other machines.
Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions.

    mcgyver,
If start up and shut down look correct then something is set or corrupt in the user options. To test this, add a new user and signon as them.
    Regards
Edit: I don't use 10.5.8 anymore so the following suggestions are for 10.6.5.
The things that may affect your display are:
System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing Tab. Display: Make sure Enhance contrast slider is set to normal. Use grayscale is unchecked.
System Preferences > Displays > Color tab > Display profile set to display or iMac. Whatever the default is on your system.

  • Generation 4 iPod Connection to new iMac intel core 2 duo

Okay, first of all heres all my technical information:
-new iMac Intel Core 2 Duo
-Gen 4 iPod, non color diplay
    -running iTunes 7.0.2
-sadly, no iPod power brick(although i think i need it to solve the problem)
Okay, now to the problem, I tried to connect the iPod to my new iMac, and it worked after leaving it alone for 15 minutes. It is formated to windows and i wanted the music to stay on it, so i disconnected it. Afterward i just thought, screw it, and connected it hoping to restore it, but it never showed up in iTunes or the finder. I thought this was odd, then i looked at the iPod and it displayed a image of a iPod power brick going into an outlet. i havent been able to get to the apple store and thought there must be an easier way to do this, so i went to get the old install disc for my iPod that came with it. Hoping this would finally work, i tried to run the package installer for the iPod to install the drivers, and it displayed(after it evaluated my comp) "Cannot be installed on this computer, missing Mac OSX Networking Update" I've looked all over the Downloads area of the Apple site and havent been able to find it. Can someone please help me!?!

I have the new 24" flat screen imac and a new IPOD video. I was using the ipod on an old mac with 10.4 and it was working ok with a few sync issues. But when I tried it with the new mac I get very bad results. Itunes hangs and I need to do a hard power reset. Then the ipod once hung up and I had to do a restore on my old mac. Still have not successfully used the ipod with the new mac.
    my system is the following

The IP i'm pinging is the router on my network. All other machines that ping to this IP are returning around <5ms pings so I know it's not the router.
When I connect via ethernet I get <5ms as well so I know it's not another program on my mac causing issues.
I've tried connecting wirelessly to an Airport Extreme, Airport Express and directly to the Netgear DG384 wireless box, they all have the same issue.
    Any help out there!?
    Thanks

Update- I deleted HP via Hp uninstall and also did a search on HD and deleted anything that siad HP. Reinstalled HP prpgram via original CD, then downloaded and installed OS 10.6 drivers and software from HP website then ran Apple software update and it updated 2 files and restarted the computer. The HP photosmart studio still did the same thing running very slow and not responding to clicking on any command. I called HP and they don't have Apple support on Sundays. Not sure if they will ever help me b/c I don't have extended service plan or they want to charge me. Apparently fro do google searches, they have been problems with the software and OS X 6-Snow Leopard. It's funny, I can print but just not use the photosmart software anymore. The problem seams to have worsened after I made a picture DVD using iDVD.- Where does iDVD get installed from? It's not part of iLife. I may uninstall iDVD and reinstall if I know where I got it from and see if that helps. I did run iPhoto yesterday and except for taking a long time to import my photos (hours for 1,600 picutres), it seems to run fine, so I can use that as long as I can use the printer to print and scan. I uninstalled HP again and was going to try reinstalling and only doing the Apple software update after and see if that chances anything. I will try calling HP after I have the software back on my computer. If I do decide to buy a new printer=- any suggestions?
    Thanks

  • IMac intel core 2 duo cant conect wireless

hi, I have an iMac intel core 2 duo and I cant get it wireless, the iMac detects the network but when I write down the WEP password it just says that an error occurs. Also it doesnt detect other mac computers. But with an ethernet cable works fine and my macbook pro have no problems with the wireless network

    Hi
My problem was semi-solved when I realised my wireless router firmware wasn't up to date. So I updated the firmware and now my imac no longer gets the message " There was an error connecting to the wireless network..." BUT the imac still does not detect the network by itself (even thought it's saved under Preferred Networks) - and I am forced to use connect via Airport > Other... on every restart and awakening from sleep.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, Krishan

  • IMac Intel Core 2 Duo Screen Turning Off

Hello! I have a 17" iMac Intel Core 2 Duo 2ghz Model # 5,1 and the problem is after turning the machine on, and getting logged in, the screen turns off while the backlight is still on forcing me too shut it down via holding the power button down. I cant plug in an external display because that causes the screen to turn off. Im thinking its the logic board (more specifically the video card) that needs to be replaced. Does anybody know what I can do to fix this? Besides buying a new logic board? Maybe its because its running Snow Leopard and cant handle the OSX?

    A good chance, but...
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Airplay audio only iMac Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06 GHz

I have been researching this question.....
I have a iMac Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06 GHz running OS 10.6.   I have not yet purchased an Apple TV but want to know if it is worth it.
I am not going to try to do any video via the iMac and the Apple TV - yes I realize I have hardware limitations.
I only want to stream audio from iTunes.   I figure I can try AirParrot and stay with OS 10.6 while adding the AppleTV.
Or upgrade to OS 10.8 (and hope my other software works).  Then, if I understand correctly, AirPlay audio will work on my ancient Mac.  Correct?
I guess I could do this via AirPort Express, but if I am going to spend $100, I might as well get the benefits of AppleTV.
    Anyone have any other suggestions?

airparrot is an alt to airplay mirror
airplay mirror is cloning what you see and hear on the mac to the tv over the appletv
airplay audio is using airport express and appletv as remote speakers one can use multiple at the same time
I have an appletv 1g the old alu one and an airport express so under my airplay icon right of the volume bar in the top of itunes 11.1.1 I have the options
    computer
    appletv
    airport express
if you don't have the icon looks like this
    http://cdn.cultofmac.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/itunes11airplaymultiplecontr ol1.jpg
then maybe your itunes is too old
or the appletv is not present on the same subnetwork as the computer some routers keep 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz and ethernet on seperate networks and one have to bridge them
sometimes if my appletv don't want to show up on the list I can get it to by on the appletv starting a song and then stopping it again
    my imac is 21.5" mid2011
and it also works fine with wifes macbook pro 13" from 2009 or something along those lines

If you are running 10.6.8 you can download 10.9 from the App Store and install it with going through 10.7 and 10.8 first. 10.9 Mavericks is a free download in the App Store.
10.9 Mavericks will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.9 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Mavericks doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Mavericks.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

    HI..
Read here >  Requirements for Mac OS X v10.5
Your Mac meets the requirements but make sure there's enough free disk space.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
