IMac Intel first generation finds no wireless signal

I recently had Apple replace the hard drive in my 2 year old Intel based iMac. I then restored all my lost data (since it was a new hard drive) using Time Machine. Everything works great, but my computer no longer recognizes ANY wireless signals. My work laptop and my iPhone find both my wireless router and a number of my neighbors'.
Airport is turned on and everything looks to be the way it should be in terms of system settings.
Is it possible they forgot to reconnect the antenna to my wireless card when they replaced the hard drive? (I have no knowledge of what the interior of my iMac looks like so I don't know if they are located close together.)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Unfortunately it was a blinding flash of the obvious that fixed my issue...
Simply rebooting the iMac brought it back to life.
Duh.
I assumed that since Apple usually forces reboots after updates if they are required that this didn't require one, apparently it did.

  • Any chance of iMac G5 first generation repair program be active again?

Any possibility that the iMac G5 first generation repair program will be active again?
I had no idea about this program since I was away overseas for few years and by the time
I return in 2009 and used my iMac G5 again, it started to have problems with display and then later the power supply I think?
Now I have just left the iMac G5 alone and let it sit on my desk like a display only and unable to use it thinking to fix it will be way too expensive.
Then today decided to check online to see if there are other solutions other than throwing it away as a garbage,
I found there was actually an extended program and I missed it!!
Because of this encounter I disliked using apple and reluctant to buy any more of apple products due to many limitations and this
extremly expensive iMac G5 I bought in 2005 and barely used it.
Hopfully there are other solutions to this old iMac G5 I have that I cannot use any more along with the expensive Final Cut Pro ver 4.5
studio suite I bought that only works with it.

There is no chance the repair extension progrm will be renewed, but call Customer Support and explain the situation. You might get lucky and find someone who's having a very good day --  or not -- who will OK the repairs. Be polite; don't start by ranting about how you won't buy any more Macs.
But I wouldn't bet the ranch on it. The program ended three years ago, in the fall of '08, I believe. If you had reported the problem in '09 when it started, you might have had a much better chance.
Perhaps one needed to have registered the computer -- I don't know --- but I don't believe any of the affected owners, registered or not, were notified by Apple of the program. You can try making the point that you were never notified of the program's existence and therefore had no way of taking advantage of it.
The iMac G5 is by now a "vintage" Mac, and I don't even think the Apple Stores will work on it. Maybe an AASP will, but the parts they get for it from Apple, if any are still availble, may be very dicey, anyway.
There are a few places that may still work on these for far less than Apple or an AASP.

  • I have an I phone 3 gs and unless I stand next to a router It cannot find a wireless signal.I guess the phone is broken. Also I don't believe you have to pay for apple to ask that question?

I have an I phone 3gs which for the last few months cannot find wi-fi signals unless I stand next to a wireless modem. To annoy me even more I called apple to find out if the phone is unserviceable and they want money to tell me if it's broken!!! Is this bill gates in disguise?

The netgear is not going to work very well.. and not at all unless it is universal wireless extender.. you cannot use WDS method.
If it does support universal wireless then make sure the airport uses a rational SMB compatible wireless name.. not an apple name which is 35 characters long with spaces and illegal characters like apostrophe.
So nice AE name.. AEwifi and actually while you are trying.. fruitlessly to do this.. use AE24ghz and AE5ghz (so different names on the different bands)
Assuming your AE is gen3 or greater.
You should also fix the wireless channel at least for 2.4ghz since the netgear is probably only going to repeat 2.4ghz so use channel 11, as a trial.
And use no wireless security as a test.. if that works.. then use WPA1 & 2.. as often old equipment using WPA2 is not compatible.
If it fails with simple name.. fixed channel and no security. Sorry it is not compatible at all.. it happens.
If your AE is G wireless or earlier model.. really the time has come for replacement.
If your Express is G wireless model it is not supported.. and is too old to bother with expect I guess if you want to run audio to a speaker.
You must use older 5.6 utility to do this.. so do you have a computer running older OS.. up to Mountain Lion it is easy to install with a bit of manipulation.. later is much harder .. or windows computer anywhere or available to you.

  • WiFi Connections: HP laptop unable to find 5Ghz wireless signal?

Hello this is my first post   I just purchased my first laptop and my first wireless router and have been setting them up. Laptop: HP touchscreen Pavilion 15 notebook 15-n088ca with windows 8.1 (fully updated) Router: D-Link Dual Band AC1000 2.5GHz & 5GHz bands DIR-810L I set up the router and worked out the kinks and updated the software.  My laptop finds and connects with the 2.5GHz Band anywhere in the house.  My laptop does not even find or see the 5GHz Band.  However my Galaxy Tablet finds both bands and can connect with both, thought the 5GHz seems weaker. I noticed that my Galaxy Tablet finds a lot more wi fi networks than my laptop (that are in houses around the street). I need help troubleshooting and problem solving.  I believe my laptop should find the 5Ghz Band and be able to connect. So I'm hoping this is a software or driver issue, and just a setting that needs to be adjusted.  Any help would be appreciated.  I don't know much about Wi Fi drivers, but I"m a Vista survivor, so I should be able to solve this. I don't even know what program runs the WiFi software on my laptop? Or where to find it?  Thank You

You're very welcome. You did not buy the wrong router. It is just that your notebook can't transmit and receive on the 5.0 GHz band. it is always good to have a dual band router just in case you have other devices like cell phones or tablets, wireless desktop PC's that can use the 5.0 GHZ band. Now in reference to your question regarding if you can purchase a dual band card for your notebook... HP has this horrible policy of locking out any wireless card not listed in the service manual from working.  This is done through a colloquial term called a BIOS "whitelist." The whitelist has all of the hardware ID's and other aspects of the supported wireless cards in a small database in the BIOS. If a card is installed and its hardware ID, etc does not exactly match what is in the BIOS whitelist, the notebook will halt on boot until the unsupported card is removed. Many times--even if there is a wireless card listed in the service manual, for some reason or another, it won't work. So, normally installing a different wireless card other than the one that came with your notebook is a daunting task to say the least. Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.  See item 17 in Chapter 3, on page 24. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03883388.pdf Unfortunately, there are no supported dual band cards for this model series. They are all listed as b/g/n as you can see. The Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 WLAN module is a dual band card but you have to have a model PC that was made for folks that live in Japan in order for it to work.

  • IMac will no longer find my wireless network.

Hello, I have seen several posts for this on the net but no one seems to have a resolution. I have an iMac running OS X 10.6.3. I was not having any issues connecting to my personal WEP password protected network until just a few days ago. My computer does not list my network as an available option anymore and despite my best efforts I cannot get it to reappear. I have tried refreshing my IP address, removing preferred networks, deleting key chains and everything else I can think of. I had not changed any settings or downloaded any updates so I'm not sure why it suddenly stopped working. I have reset my router multiple times and even moved my computer so its right next to it and still nothing. Any suggestions would be great. It can find all of my neighbors networks just not mine. My roommate also runs a PC laptop and has no issues logging in.
    Please help!!

Turn of the MG and unplug the power cord. Leave it off for about a minute and then reconnect the power cord and turn the power back on. Wait while the device attempts to reconnect to your wireless network - the blue wifi symbol on the MG will flash and then stay on once it has connected. If it keeps flashing then you will have to reconnect the MG to your wireless access point via the control panel on the MG.

  • Good Old LaserJet Pro P1100w can't even find a wireless signal - blinking away

Well, forgive me - I'm not a very savvy computer user, but I've spent three hours using all the various "wizards" and "Doctors" and reading forums and can't figure out what's going on with my trusty LaserJet P1100w.
It appears nowhere on my ASUS Windows 8 OS laptop under "Printers and Devices" and perhaps I accidentally deleted it (or another user on the family computer did!).  So I unplugged it, then plugged it in, and alas, the blue light keeps searching for a connection - I assume it isn't finding it - and I don't have a USB cable or the original CD (although I downloaded all the drivers/software online).  My ASUS cannot detect the printer at all.  But I suppose if the printer was able to connect with the wireless router and had a solid blue light that wouldn't be a problem.
Any suggestions?  I'm not quite sure how to help the printer go from blinking blue light to finding whatever it is it is looking for and then step two will probably be easier - finding the printer on my ASUS laptop.
    Thanks!!

  • My IMAC G5 First Generation WONT SLEEP by itself

I have more than a year with this amazing machine. About a month ago it only will sleep manually, even when my external HD is off, no printer conected and IDISK not sync. Any help ? I search in the forums but most common trouble seems to be the opposite. Tks in advanced.

    iLee,
What you described is for the later iMac models, not the Rev A, which Carlos said he has---and that process you just mentioned is not for resetting the PRAM, but the SMU.
Here is how to reset the PRAM from Apple's support pages:
This document explains how to reset the parameter random access memory (PRAM) and nonvolatile RAM (NVRAM) on Macintosh computers.
    Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
    1) Shut down the computer.
    2) Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3) Turn on the computer.
    4) Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5) Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6) Release the keys.
Your computer's PRAM and the NVRAM are reset to the default values. The clock settings may be reset to a default date on some models.

  • Imac G5 first generation Harddisk

    Hello,
I need to replace the harddisk as it is crashed. The orginal HD was 200GB but I would like to upgrade this does anyone know what the maximum is that the Imac can handle and what type of HD needs to go in ?
    Thanks
    Robert

You can put in as large a drive as you like, providing that it is a 3.5" SATA drive. I have heard of people putting in 750GB rives and having no problems.Good places to get drives are macsales.com or newegg.com.

  • Boot up iMac Intel. Kernal Panic can't boot up computer??

I'm fixing my friend iMac Intel first generation Dual Core 32 bit.
Not the lastest one. Since I know more of him with macs.
My friend trip off the power cord of his imac by accident one morning and when
he put the cord back in to the imac to power up.
Is stuck on the loading screen apple logo with a kernal panic and can't get no where.
In the background there is text like in the terminal with saying Apple CPU Power Management Debugger.
How do I resolve this problem

    Hi Frank
Reset the SMC exactly as described in the article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
It could be that the cord or surge protector was damaged, try using a different power cord and a different surge protector.

  • When I turn on my IMac it can not find the my wireless network automatically, I have select it manually, even with apple support problem still exist.

When I turn on my Imac it can not find my wireless network automacally, I have to seclect it manually.  Apple support has not been apple to find the problem.  I also have an MacBook Pro and have no problem with this laptop finding my network everytime.  Does anyone else have this problem. This problem started within the last month.

Lot's of people reporting Wifi problems with 10.7.4, but some things to try...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.

  • Can not find wireless signal on laptop?

I've had an ACER laptop for some time now, and I've been using Linksys wireless routers. They've never been stable with my laptop. I thought I could solve it by buying a new router the Linsys WRT150N, and I got a Linksys wireless card for the laptop, all installed successfully. Till my laptop will not find the wireless signal and I find quite often I'm connected to my neighbours wireless from across the street!!

Well in this case if you connect the modem directly to the laptop are you online?? if no...contact your ISP to get the internet connection. If yes, then connect modem>>>>router>>>>laptop with an ethernet cable & reset the router for 30 secs in such a way that power light is blinking on the router. Also, do the complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power cables from the modem & from the router...now plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are solid green plug in the power cable to the router...& you will be ONLINE!!!

  • How can I listen to my iTunes music on my IPAD without a wireless signal?

I have an ipad, version 4.2.1. Why can't I listen to the itunes songs I put into the ipad when I don't have a wireless signal? I can't advance past the "itunes store" screen. I synced it to my iMac, running 10.6.5. All the songs are there. I do not have wireless at home, nor do I plan on getting it. Is there a way to listen to my itunes music in Airplane mode? Also, at my job at a middle school, the ipad is much worse at finding our wireless signal than our Macbooks are. Any ideas?

iTunes application on your computer does everything.
It's for the iTunes store as well as playing songs, movies, aduiobooks, etc.
iTunes app on the iPad is for the iTunes store only.
iPod app on the iPad is for playing songs and audiobooks.
Video app on the iPad is for Movies, TV Shows, music videos.

    Hello Sashalechat,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue when attempting to connect to a wireless network.
Have you changed the router for a new one?
Make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
Make sure that you are with in the 4'-20' range.
You can try the HP Print and Scan Doctor as well.  Let me know if you see any error codes or messages.
Write me back when you have time.
