IMac + iPod

Just switched from a PC to a Mac. Have a VERY old iPod for Windows. The first two times I connected it to the iMac, it synced just fine. But now, the iMac won't even recognize it. The fire wire port is fine as the iPod charges. Question: is it not recognizing the iPod because it's Windows-based and trying to interface with a Mac? And if so, why did it recognize it the first two times I connected it?
FYI...same thing with a Maxtor external hard drive - had been using it with the PC and the iMac recognized it the first time, but now won't. (Are both formatting issues?)
Apple had me run diagnostics tests and the ports are fine.
Please help!

How old is a "very old iPod?"
They haven't been platform specific since the first generations, IIRC.
If you have transferred your music to your Mac, there is no harm in doing a reset and reformatting it for Mac.
What file format are you using for the external drive? If it is NTFS, your Mac can read it but will not be able to write to it. If it is FAT32, your Mac can read and write to it, but FAT32 has a problem handling files over 4GB. I would suggest using HFS+ unless you plan on using this drive between Macs and Windows machines. If it will only be used on Macs, then by all means switch it to HFS+.

  • How can I sync my iMac & iPod Touch calendar & contacts with new iTunes?

I have just installed the latest iTunes to my iMac. My iPod Touch has iOS 6.0.1. My iMac has OS 10.6.8. I sync by Wi Fi via iCloud. My calendar and contacts are not syncing by Wi Fi between the two, although my mail is. I What should I do?

This says that it can't be done.
But I am able to do it for my calendars in iCloud, just not for my contacts in iCloud.
What is the reason for the difference.

  • IMac/iPod Problems

I have no idea if this is a problem with my iMac or with my iPod.
I have an iMac G5 (no cam) and an iPod w/click wheel (40GB).
Two weeks ago I connected my iPod to my Mac for the first time in a while in order to update it. I received an error from iTunes that 28 songs, all of which I purchased from iTunes on this computer, could not be copied to the iPod because the computer was not authorized. When I tried to re-authorize the computer just shut down. I restarted and tried to sync again and the same sequence of events repeated.
Ended up with some HD problems, Apple support was not able to tell if the disc errors caused the problem or if the problem caused the disc errors. But the Disk utility could not fix the issues and I had to do a clean install of OSX and restore my data.
Now, tonight I attached my iPod again to try to update (via Firewire as it has always been connected) and I got the same authorization error as before on the same songs.
This time I tried to do a restore on the iPod and as soon as iTunes had started to restore....the computer just shut off! Same as before, like someone just pulled the plug.

yes, obviously must be the computer anyway. have you done the smc firmware update http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303725 for your computer? [:)]

  • Using iMac/iPod Touch WIFI

Hello everyone, could someone please help me connect my iPod Touch to the internet without a router using my iMac?I get as far as enabling internet sharing with Airport On and the Touch showing a full WIFI signal but still unable to connect to internet.I must have missed a step setting this up and cannot figure out what I am doing wrong.
    Thanks

If the iMac is connected to the Internet using Ethernet (wired), set up System Preferences Sharing pane +Internet Sharing+ so it says
    +Share you connection from *Built-in Ethernet*+
    +To computers using AirPort+
After setting that up, check the box next to +Internet Sharing+ to turn ON the service.
If it still does not work, the issue may be with how the iMac is connected. Is there a router between the iMac and the ISP's modem device? Are any special settings needed to get the iMac connected?

  • Aluminum iMac + iPod Classic = Electrical Shock!

If I happen to touch the aluminum case of my iPod Classic and either the iMac's aluminum frame or the aluminum keyboard, I get a nice 110-volt AC shock. The iPod isn't generally connected to the iMac--it's connected only to a sound system through the headphone outlet. It's not connected to an AC power source.
Anyone have an idea what's happening? The iMac is grounded. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Your welcome!
The following outlet testers will only test grounded outlet circuits.
    http://electrical.hardwarestore.com/15-62-circuit-voltage-testers/receptacle-tes ter-281667.aspx
To test polarized (ungrounded) circuits in an older home you really need a multi meter and a ground source or a Non-Contact tester to check for proper polarity.
    http://electrical.hardwarestore.com/15-62-circuit-voltage-testers/non-contact-ci rcuit-alert-154716.aspx
Have a look at the following article, it shows the difference between a grounded and polarized (ungrounded) household circuits.
    http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/electric/hsehld.html
Also note: that for both grounded and polarized (ungrounded) outlets the 110v a/c power should be coming from the smaller of the two blade slots.

  • Imac/ipod help

I just got a new imac and want to load my "library" from my current ipod onto the new machine. Any ideas on how to do this?

You still did not answer the key question... Does the old computer still have its iTunes installation and data on it? In other words, can you still sync your iPod to it.
I'll assume the answer is yes.
The best way to make iTunes on the iMac like iTunes on the old computer is to transfer the entire iTunes folder. The high level steps are:
    (1) Find the iTunes folder on your old computer. If you used the default settings, all of your iTunes user and media files are in that folder. It should be located at
    \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\
    (2) Find the iTunes folder on your new Mac. It should be at
    <User Home Folder>/Music/iTunes/
    (3) Assuming the iTunes library on the iMac is empty, when iTunes is NOT running, replace the iTunes folder on the iMac with the iTunes folder from the old computer. The next time you run iTunes on the new iMac, it should use your old iTunes library file and iTunes should look like it did on the old computer.
Note for (3): If you already have new stuff in iTunes on the iMac (that is not on your old PC), you may not want to delete the existing iTunes folder. Instead, you can move it to a different location or rename it. Then, you can latter merge anything new into your previous iTunes library, once it becomes your iTunes library on the iMac.
For step (3), you can do it with an external drive or you can do it over a network connection between the iMac and Windows PC. If you had an +old school+ iPod, like an iPod classic, you could even use it as your external drive to do the transfer. I don't think an iPod touch can be used that way, and it probably is not big enough to hold your iTunes folder.

  • Does anyone know if there is a personal budget app that can sync with Imac, Ipod touch and iphone?

Hi, first time at posting, does anyone know if the above App exists.  I want to be able to record my daily expenditure on my Ipod touch when I'm out and then sync if with my Imac when I get home.  Thanks in advance for any help offered.

I had the same issue last year.  it turned out to be my Bluetooth earpiece reached the end of its battery life.
When I got a replacement the problem went away.

  • My TC has been working fine. Using WIFI my iMac, ipod touch were able to access the internet. Last night, no internet access and when I plug the router connection in my Mac all is good.

My TC was fine, it supports a Mac and an ipod touch. I have had no issues until last night. Nominternet access, Timecapsule app cannot detect or finf the TC. I have my router cable plugged into my Mac and it's fine. I am using Leopard and have no idea what TC firmware version I am on. The TC does get hot! Any clues?

    Firmware downgrade.
Go to the airport menu at the top of the page when you have airport utility open.
The second screen will open over the airport utility.
Now hold down the option key when you select firmware so not just new ones open but also old ones.
    You get a warning ..
    You proceed.
Now you have your TC with whatever firmware you chose.
That is about as Gumpy as I can do it.

  • Can I sync my imac with my ipod ?

How do I sync my imac, ipod, and ipad together?

To do it directly just connect the iPad/iPod to the Mac and you will be able to sync certain files via iTunes. Other files can be synced indirectly via iCloud if your devices meet the system requirements and you set it up.

  • Trying to hook up my windows formatted ipod to an old mac

Long story short...i worked at a record store and i used the computer there for my ipod so i could have a huge variety of music. Well the store went out of business and now i have the same music on my ipod and i want to add more music. I know i will have to start over with my music since everything will be erased. Now my computer at my house is an old mac (Mac Os 9.2.2). Now im wondering does any of the admins or anyone know where i can get a copy of the old iTunes that was formatted for my computer? My sencond question is also whenever i hook up my ipod to my mac it says "the disk is unreadable" and asks my to initialize it. My question is will this mess up my ipod since it is formatted for windows and if i do format it for mac will it still be able to be read by my xbox 360? Any help is appreciated.

  • Using the iMac for Sound...?

    Fellow Mac enthusiasts,
I am currently playing Xbox 360 on an old CRT moniter next to iMac, using a vga adapter. The Problem is I dont have any sound. So in theory couldnt i plug in the the digital audio cable that comes from the 360's Sound ( same size as the audio in port on the iMac/iPod headphone size) into the iMac's audio in slot, usually used for microphones, but just plug it in and use a program to just play the sound? Get what im saying?

    Hi Gamedude6
Yes just be sure that you are using a 3.5mm stereo jack in the Mac like the one in the link below.
    http://www.maplin.co.uk/images/Full/ck27_2003cat.jpg
Then have a look at this handy little app. call LineIn from MacUpdate for passing the audio from input thur to output.
