IMac iSight Camera Upside-Down?

I just got a new iMac C2D 2.4GHz 24" and when I got to the screen where it asks to take a Snapshot to use as my Account Photo the image appeared upside down. I then figured it might work correctly in Photo Booth but it appears that it does not. When I open Photo Booth it shows my picture upside down.
I downloaded iGlasses to see if rotating it would fix the problem and it does, but I'd rather not have to set that up and pay 10$ to correct something that shouldn't even be happening.
Is there anything that I can do? Is there a setting I could change?

Hi SkawtS
Sound like the iSight may have been installed upside down at the factory???
I would take it or send it back for a replacement right away... here's the link to [Contact Apple Support|http://www.apple.com/support/contact>

  • IMac iSight camera doesn't work in oSX

The built in iSight camera in my iMac has stopped working in OSX. It certainly used to work in the past but I'm not sure exactly when it stopped.
This is definitely an OSX software issue as the camera works when using Skype on Windows XP on Parallels on the same Mac.
iChat, Skype and Photo Booth on OSX all just show a black screen for video. The green camera light is on.
System Profiler shows USB / USB High-Speed Bus / Built-in iSight
This issue seems to come up a lot and I have tried the following without success:
    - reset the SMC (power down computer and unplugging all connectors)
    - reset the PRAM
    - created a new account to see if the issue occurs in that account - it does
    Any suggestions?

+(1) You have tried some good troubleshooting already. Your iSight can only operate with one application at a time, so, when you test OS X apps:+
    + • quit all other apps,+
+ • have nothing active in fast user swithching, and+
    + • have no Windows® items using iSight.+
iSight does not work when only iChat, Photo Booth, Skype or iMovies is running. All just show a black screen.
+(2) Restart the Mac and check iSight with no other apps or Login Items running. If the problems persist, try all relevant suggestions from:+
    +  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090+
I have gone through this already several times - I came across these instructions googling for the problem of iSight not working .
+In your testing, you should add QuickTimeX to the list of OS X apps you test with iSight.+
With QuickTime I again get a black screen with the New Movie Recording command and the message "Recording failed because no data was received. Make sure the media input source is turned on an playing".
+If your iSight problem still occurs in more than one app and more than one user account, the reset suggested there often restores proper function of inbuilt iSight.+
+(3) The instructions for proper SMC reset of your iNtel iMac are found here:+
    +  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964+
+Be certain to begin with the instructions in the section marked "Before Resetting the SMC". After that, the reset instructions specific to your iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo are are follows:+
I have done this 3 times. I went through these instructions before posting this message. Additionally I unplugged all connectors to the Mac.
+(4) If your problem persists and you need to post back for other suggestions, please let us know which OS X apps you tested in more than one user account and whether any of them worked properly. Also confirm that those tests were done when no other apps or OSs that can use iSight were running.+
iChat, Skype, Photo Booth, Quicktime and iMovie do not work.
I only had one of these applications running at a time.
I set up another user account and none of these applications worked.
The iSight camera does work using Skype on Windows XP running on Parallels. Note: Parallels is not running when I tested the OSX applications.
+(5) If you need to post back for other suggestions, please also verify that your inbuilt iSight is recognized as a USB device in your Mac's System Profiler utility.+
Yes, the built-in iSight does appear in System Profiler under USB > USB High Speed Bus > Built-in iSight
    Built-in iSight:
    Product ID: 0x8502
    Vendor ID: 0x05ac (Apple Inc.)
    Version: 1.45
    Serial Number: 606F6A72C9AEA8D8 (03.01)
    Speed: Up to 480 Mb/sec
    Manufacturer: Apple Inc.
    Location ID: 0xfd400000
    Current Available (mA): 500
    Current Required (mA): 500
+(6) If you need to post back for other suggestions, in addition to Skype, please also list any webcam-enabled third-party software you use, and tell us whether you have verified that it is the current version compatible with Mac OS X 10.6.4+
I do not have any other 3rd party webcam applications other than Skype. Additionally, I only installed Skype after I discovered the iSight was not working in order to see if the same problem happens with Skype.
I took a quick look at the Console. Interestingly the following message appears from all of the applications where iSight does not work. I also have a MacBook Pro where iSight does work and the same messages do not appear with the same applications.

  • Air 3.0 Android Front Cam upside-down

    Dear Adobe Community,
I am working on an app where I grab the video from an android (2.3.3) device, and stream it to a recording video server. My app is written in AS3 with Flash Pro CS5.5, so I first publish that, then use the adt command line to compile using the Air 3.0rc SDK for a runtime bundled version. The rear camera works perfectly fine, meaning, when I hold the phone in landscape mode, video displayed in the video object is right side up, and when I hold the phone in portrait mode, the video on screen also turns, also right side up. When I switch to the front cam, however, the video displays fine on screen in landscape mode (right side up), but when I hold the phone in portrait mode, the video turns upside down. I tried flipping the video object vertically, which fixes the 'right side up' issue for the front cam in portrait mode, but all other positions turn upside down. Is anyone else experiencing a similar issue? I am using the 3.0 SDK release candidate version to compile.
p.s. I have auto-rotate turned off, and position in portrait mode when I compile the apk. I tried swiching to landscape mode, but same result.
Any help or hints are greatly appreciated.
    thank you,
    Alex

    Hi bjsr12345,
That was quite a long time back. Unfortunately, even today, if your target platform is below ICS (Android 4), that rear camera orientation issue is still present. You can adjust so that you flip the video object within your app if it's upside down (say, when you are recording a video and allowing the user to change between front and rear cams mid-stream), but there is no way to change the orientation of the video itself, sans adding some lines of code in a native Android code itself, not through Air. Hope this helps.

  • IPhone4S Camera Upside Down after 5.0.1 Update

The 5.0.1 Update was pushed to my iPhone this afternoon.  Naively, I loaded it and rebooted.  Although I appreciate the Camera that made an apprearance on the lock screen, unfortunately, it now displays in reverse orientation.  And, when I take a picture-- it's upside down.  When I turn the camera to shoot, ALL of my pics are upside down.  No matter WHAT direction I hold the camera in--they ALL turn out upside down. This is HORRIBLE.
Can I get the old OS back, is there a fix (BACK to the way it was), or should I just return to the AT&T store?
    Thank you.
    Lisa

I finally worked around Apple's problem.  I synced my iPhone 4 phone with another computer.  Lost my apps and music on the phone but still had my music database of almost 3,000 tunes.  I then synced with another computer with the updated iTunes software they just sent out.  Then had to rebuild my apps and music on the phone.  I used Tune-Up plug-in to help with the music with covers and dupes, etc.  It took me till 1 am last night but it's now working and syncing ok. I have about 1,000 tunes on the phone now, with no dupes and 95% of the cover artwork. Without Tune-Up it would take me a week to get the dupes out and covers for all the albums. I think the problems started when Apple tried to send the update directly to the iPhone rather than thru iTunes like they had always done before.  I turned off the cloud and am syncing and backing up with my computer and home sharing is turned off. That method worked very well for the last few years.   It seems like the combination of home sharing, the cloud and 5.0.1 software caused a lot of problems.  Hopefully I have it under control now, or at least until the next software update.  It was a major pita.

  • IMac isight camera is now not found

I have been using the iSight camera on my iMac for FaceTime. I have installed the latest security upgrade and now it is no longer recognized.
I looked in the system information section under camera and it tells me that one is not found.
I have restarted, zapped the Pram...
    Any ideas? David

    Try K Shaffer's suggestion from http://discussions.apple.com/thread/6770624.
If SMC reset does not remedy the problem, use these instructions to Reinstall OS X.
Then check again for the camera in the System Information utility.
If you don't find the camera in System Information's "Camera" item,
click the Hardware's > USB tab and look for it in the USB Device Tree.
If nothing else works, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • Firefox Hello with camera upside down (with linux Mint 17)

Hello, I'm running Firefox 36.0.1 and I tried the new Hello addon. Unfortunately my camera appears upside down. This was the same problem I had using Skype and I had to update libv4l and than worked. Now for Skype it's still working but for Hello the problem is back. (I'm using linux Mint 17)
    Any suggestion?

    Hi,
I asked in the mozilla irc channel #media and had some help:
the app_name should just be "firefox"
    /usr/bin/firefox
However it was noted also that this looks "like a driver/lib issue. So it probably works for any program which accesses the camera (as long as the program hasn’t the libv4l build in)."

  • Can I 'flip' isight image upside down as iSight hangs upside down?

  • X1 - Windows 8 - Camera upside down

     Hey guys,
First time poster. Upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 and now the Webcam is upside down. Ive tried:
    Machine is a Lenovo X1.
    - Reinstalled the driver
    - Loading drivers in XP mode
    - Trying diffrent drivers.
I just cant seem to get the thing to be the right way up.
I see that there are a number of people with this issue and it would be great to get it sorted out. When you narrow your driver search on Lenovo's site down to W8 it doesn't have a driver to be able to download.
Can anyone help me with this?
    [Moderator edit: veiled profanity]

I had the same issue with a DELL XPS 12 in "almost tablet mode" which is when you flip the screen but  dont lay it flat on the keyboard (not sure what the mode is called).  Its kind like laptop mode but with the screen facing outwards - perfect for watching movies on a plane.
to fix it on the xps 12 I went into the mode (tent mode for you) and with it upside down open up the Intel HD Graphics option via the Intel Control Center and rotate the display to 180 degrees - I also saved the settings as a profile called "flipped" instead of "normal".  The Intel smarts seem to hold these settings for the flipped mode but revert back to "normal" settings when I return to normal laptop mode.
Only issue is that in flipped mode my hard start button is now at the top of the screen even in tablet mode - not too much of an issue.
    Hope this helps.

  • IMovie 6.0.3 does not recognize built in iSight Camera on new iMac

New iMac, Intel, OS 10.5.4, QT 7.5.
Built in Camera works with Photo Booth, the new iMovie 7.1.3 and iChat.
iMovie HD 6.0.3 or 6.0.4 does not recognize the camera. Opening a new project results in a No Camera Connected error. I have tried selecting various options in the video format drop down when creating a new project. I have repaired permissions, tried it under various users, removed the imovie plist, reinstalled imovie (both 6.0.3 and 6.0.4) without success. All 10 of the new computers are exhibiting this problem.
    Any help would be appreciated.

That is not an option that I can select on the imac's. On my iBook under 10.5.4 with iMovie HD 6.0.3 or 6.0.4 I can click on the triangle next to the camera icon and select the built in iSight camera. On the new iMacs that does not work. The built in iSight is not listed as an option.

  • Built in iSight camera no longer showing up or recognized by iMac

Hello there - I have a white 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with a built in iSight camera, and the camera is no longer showing up, or is not recognized by the computer any longer. Very strange! The little green LED by the camera is not lit any longer, and the camera is not recognized any longer by Photo Booth, iChat AV, or any of the other apps that would use the camera. This is a real pain, because I am leaving for France in a couple days and am taking my MacBook Pro with me, and am hoping that I can use iChat AV to talk to my kids at home on the iMac. I do have an extra iSight camera that I have hooked up to the iMac and can use in a pinch, but I really want to use the built in camera on the iMac. Any hints / ideas / suggestions on what to do for this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

No, unfortunately that did not help. I did the following...
    1. See if the issue is application-specific. - Nope. Camera is not recognized in any of the apps that it should be recognized in, I tested iChat AV, PhotoBooth, ImageCapture, and iMovie.
    2. See if the issue is user-specific. - There's only one user account on this Mac, so I couldn't do that.
    3. Find out if the computer recognizes the iSight. I went into System Profiler and checked the USB profiler, and the camera does not show up.
    4. Reset SMC or PMU. These just looked like different ways of restarting, which I did multiple times.
I have also run my Software Updates (on OS 10.5, which I did with a clean install from an OS 10.5 DVD by the way) and still no camera. This problem started happening with the original OS 10.4 (which it came with) and I was hoping a clean install of the OS would help, but no.
I'm wondering if resetting the PRAM might help, but I can't remember those keys you hold down while restarting (was it Apple-Option-P-R ?) or if that is just reaching waaaaay back to the pre OSX days.
Here's the kicker though - if I plug in a FireWire iSight camera, all is well. I'm really hoping that the camera isn't jsut dead, but it's starting to look that way. Would Disk First Aid or maybe DiskWarrior help?

    Hi,
I would try a Safe Boot first.  (This will take longer than a normal Boot and you will need to Restart afterwards).
If it were an older OS I would also suggest going to System Preferences > Displays and making sure the display is set to Millions.  (My MacBook Pro does not have this option in Snow Leopard so I did presume Snow Leopard does not have it).
With some laptops there have been some issues with the cable up the back of the screen pulling loose with regular and frequent use of the lid, but this will not apply to you based on your specs.  (it does take time to appear and is also somewhat rare). However it seems enough contact with the camera can make it appear in System Profiler and power it on but not give a pic.
If a Safe Boot does not work I would also try a PRAM reset.
    Shut down the computer.
Restart it holding down Apple/CMD (or ⌘)+ALT( ⌥)+P+R Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.
This is actually "less" destructive in that it clears less memory items than Safe Boot but they are different enough to warrant trying.
Do you have an older version of iGlasses installed ?
The one for Leopard does not work for Snow Leopard.
Do you have  Web Browser open ?
This may point to  Google Video Chat Plug-in and Flash Conflict.  It would be rare to allow another app to access the camera even if not displayiong a Pic.
(Chrome Installs the Plug-in as does the standalone download).
Knowing  what "any application" exactly you are trying might help us pin it down.
Any additional downloaded  apps that can use the camera ?
Do you happen to have something balck in front of the camera ?

  • Flipping (upside-down) the image on the iMac display

My imac G5 20" (no iSight) sits way too high on my desk.
I want to turn it upside down so the screen is lower.
Is there a way to inverse the screen display? 3rd party software, etc...?
    Thanks

The foot is removable on the iMac G5 computers prior to the iSight version.
They did this so that you could install a wall-mount adapter.
But, if you do this, consider that you do need air-space under the iMac G5 for ventilation.
Probably your best bet would be to buy a wall-mount adapter from Apple, and then a Wall-Mount bracket from most electronics and home stores. Then you can set the height anywhere you want it.
