IMac isnt connecting to the internet

My iMac's internet has been slowing down extremely slow even though it say it's connected to my wifi on Airport. Sometimes the internet's been shutting off completely the past few days. Ive taken it to the Apple Store and they fixed it, but the internet only remained there temporarily. Now it's slowing down again and I dont know what to do.

Since you have a repair history at the Apple Store you should call them and follow up so they can get you to the next level of the troubleshooting process.

Sometimes after I play league of legends, the iMac could not connect to the Internet anymore. Only restarting would solve he problem. What are the possible reasons for such problem?

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership. If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you also have 14 days from the date of delivery in which toexchange or return it for a refund.

You can't. It has to be on and able to connect to a network or it can't transmit its location.

  • IMac not connecting to the internet.

Hi, over the past month or so my iMac has been disconnecting and reconnecting to the internet, but today it just doesnt connect at all. At first I thought it was my router so I went to reset it, but nothing changed. So I checked my ipod and the internet worked fine so now I thought it was my the actual airport connector in my compuer that had broken, so in a last resort I went to my windows bootcamp partition to see if it worked. And of course it works fine that's what im on now. So now I know its software based. What's going on? someone help.

Since it deals with the firewall I suppose a quick check might be to turn the firewall off and see.

  • IMac G5 OS X (10.4.11) can't connect to the internet

Hi every one, i can't get my iMac to connect to the Internet (wireless or wired). I open Safari and it opens but that's it. I get the swirly rainbow ball and after a period of time the computer is frozen. can same one help me?
    Thanks.

Hi Kfreire727, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all? Click on the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, then do a Get Info on it.
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Tiger Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
(If perchance you cant Find your Install Disk, at least do the Safe Boot part above).
Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers for the Interface you're using...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Then Apply. These are safer/faster than most ISP's DNS numbers, and have been patched against DNS poisoning.
    Any progress?

  • Can't connect to the internet

Ok. so i did a search and didn't come across any other problems like the one I'm having.
Let me start off by stating that my laptop is an ibook g4 bought feb, '06 (yes the apple care just ran out).
I'm having a problem connecting to the internet on my ibook, running through a d-link wireless router. I'm using my imac to connect to the internet currently (which works fine by the way). It also is connected through the wireless router.
My ibook has a strange ailment. I open up Safari and all I get is a blank screen, the page is trying to load but the status bar is going no where and does the same in Firefox. So first, I opened Network diagnostics, but the computer freezes and I have to do a hard shutdown. (holding the power button). Next, I tried Disk utility. Verified Permissions, Repaired Permissions, everything is fine. I tried to Verify Disk, and again the computer freezes, will not let me force quit and I am forced to do another hard shutdown. I do the thing where you hold down some key while you're starting up to get into the disk utility so I can repair the disk. This returns clean as well. I downloaded techtool off of my Applecare disk. Did the tests, everything passes. So what's the deal?? I've tried to reset the pram. I even did the Apple Hardware test, everything passed.
I thought it could be my Airport card? It recognizes that there is an internet connection in the top right corner, I even have great signal strength (mostly because I've tried this sitting right next to the router). But still, I can't connect to the internet. Any one have any ideas? I don't know what else to try! Please help!

so i can't believe i didn't try to connect it directly to the router with the ethernet cord. This actually worked. But it still didn't solve my wireless problem. I'm not willing to let my laptop become a desktop. I'm already wired to a plug b/c the battery is slowly dying and has a life of about 5 minutes. I'm not willing to give up my wireless internet too.
I guess now it's got to be the airport card? how do I confirm this? and if it is how much would a new one cost and can I install it myself??

  • MBA won't connect to the internet

I am having a problem that I cannot figure out. I've searched Google as well as the Apple discussion boards, and I have found nothing that addresses my problem.
Yesterday, I was able to turn on my airport in my iMac (which is connected to a cable modem - ISP is Roadruner) and turn on internet sharing, which allowed my MBA and ipod touch to connect to the internet. My wife uses the iMac and I use the MBA. The only thing my wife uses on the iMac is Safari and iPhoto so no settings have been changed.
Today, my system got an attitude, and now nothing will connect. The internet sharing is turned on in the iMac control panel, same as yesterday. All appropriate boxes are checked. I have tried turning off the firewall, and back on and I get nothing.
I know the problem is not with the MBA or the touch, because I was able to connect to the university's wifi all day today when I was at school with no problems.
My MBA under the network says it has self assigned an IP address and will not be able to connect.
The iMac also says that the Air Port has self-assigned IP address.
I have tried deleting the interfaces, and re-adding them. I have tired renewing the DHCP. I have disabled the internet sharing and enabled it again. The little airport icon in the bar at the top has a gray airport symbol with an arrow in it pointing up. The iMac can connect to the internet just fine with an Ethernet connection. Both systems have been restarted multiple times. I have tried to repair the permissions. I have reset the cable modem. I have powered down both systems and let them sit, then tried again. Not sure what else to do.
Any suggestions on how I can get this problem fixed would be greatly appreciated.

I have also got problems with connecting to internet after upgrading my 1. gen MBA to 10.6.1
    Symptoms are as follows:
No changes in network setup on the mac or on the routers. No problems with iphone, touches, MacBooks, Macbook Pros or Mac Pros. Only with MBA. I am usually roaming between 4 different locations, all with different Apple Airports. I am only capable of reaching internet on one of the locations. I am able to connect to the resources on the internal networks (all 4), but not able to contact internet.
Since upgrading, I have not been able to connect to wifi services like Telenor, Vodafone, T-mobile etc. Had some success with Vodafone, however, I was not able to reach by the login screen. When trying to connect to the same services with my iphone, I had no problems.
No problems contacting internet with thetering withe the iphone, but it cost a h..... lot more.
Is there anything wrong with the implementation of DNS/routing???

  • Sharing files with a computer not connected to the Internet

I have one iMac G5 (20" Flat Panel Power PC) and another older PC with Windows XP on it. Only my iMac is connected to the Internet and I downloaded some songs from iTunes music store. It has simply become a nightmare to transfer those songs to my PC. I have tried every trick in the book (created disc backup by enabling 'Backup only iTunes purchases), created a regular Data CD, tried converting the downloaded files using Quicktime Pro but nothing helped. Because of a lock on the music files as soon as I try to play the songs in my iTunes on PC, it asks for authorization. I am not connected to Internet on my other computer and it is so old that I dont even have an ethernet port in it. Is there anyway, without upgrading it, to play my purchased music files on my PC?

Not directly, no. A computer has to be able to connect to the Internet, at least briefly, to obtain the necessary authorization from the iTunes Store. But you can burn the tracks to audio CD, at which point you can use that CD on your PC just as you would any other audio CD.

  • Problem while connecting to the internet

Yesterday, in the afternoon the Airport Extreme which is inbuilt into the Apple iMac suddenly stopped connecting to the internet only in Mac OS. I have an other computer which runs Windows and it was completely fine. Even Windows on this Apple iMac is connecting to the internet. When trying to connect to the internet in Mac OS it is giving a warning message that "Alert - No internet connection". I suppose there is a problem withe the Airport Extreme in Mac OS. So please help me out.

The router name is NETGEAR WGR614

My ipad recognizes my home network but will not connect to the internet. When I click on AirPort/preferences at the top of the imac screen it says..."AirPort has a self-assigned ip address and may not connect to the internet". If this is the root of the problem, how can I change ip address?
Ipad will connect no problem to other networks.

First thing you need I think is to get your iMac connected to the Internet.
Shut down your iMac and you iPad. Then power off your router. Wait 30 seconds and power up the router.
After the router indicates that it is connected to the Internet then start up your iMac and see if it connects. If the iMac connects to the Internet then your iPad should too.
If this power up sequence doesn't work you'll have to dig into the router setup to make sure it is working properly.

  • My imac and ipad2 will not connect to the internet with Windstream using an 2wire DSL modem.

Help my brand new imac and ipad2 will not connect to the internet with Windstream using an "2WIRE" DSL modem.  Windstream tech service is useless.  i can connect with the built in router through Ethernet or wireless, but still no connecting to internet, help!  windstream said everything is working on their end, yea right.  What i do know is that both the mac and ipad work at other places and can connect with wireless connected to the internet, so i know it's not the apple products.
these are brand new machines with lion.
This is my first mac, so I’m still new to how it works, which is not helping either so a detailed help would be great.  Please help before my wife losses it
    thanks

There is a 2701HG-B, and a 2701HG-D.  If not labelled on the modem, ask Windstream which one they presently supply or how to tell the difference.
By the way tell your wife it isn't that bad.  At least you have an ethernet DSL modem.  There were times where DSL modems had RJ-11, USB, and Ethernet, and all three were used to provide access.  At least now only the craziest DSL providers still use those modems.

My 5yr old iMac will not connect to the Internet. All other computers at home will, including my Mac Pro and iPad. I'm at my wits end. What should I do?

Which OS are you using (update your user profile).Try a
    SMC RESET
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.

I cannot synch movies to my iPad.  This has worked for me in the past.  I keep getting an error message that I am not connected to the internet.  Yet, I certainly am.  How else could I post this message.  I can listen to music clips from the iTunes store, fetch my email, and read current newspapers on the internet.  I restarted both my iMac and my Ipad and that didnot help.

I completely understand what is happening. I know that you are connected to the Internet. I made the suggestion because I have seen it work in similar circumstances. The Apple iTunes servers can be a bit fussy about things and sometimes rebooting the router clears up this miscommunication between iTunes and your network.
Have you tried signing into your account and then try to sync again. Go to Store>View Account. You will have to enter your password. Then try to sync again. Or try signing out completely in Store>Sign out. Quit iTunes, sign in again and then try to sync again.
Sometimes refreshing settings will help clear up weird problems.
