IMac just died on me. Need to recover the data.

A friend of mine has a blue looking fruit iMac 600MHz, 256MB, and a CDRW, which just died and it made this 'click' noise when you press the power button.
I'm guessing it is the power supply and it there a way to reset the power? I heard it is next to the RAM slot?
Anyway, the most important is that I must recover the data off the hard drive, which I have successfully removed.
Do I need some kind of Mac viewer in order to see the content in the hard drive under Windows XP?

I don't know XP. Someone in this forum might know:

How full is your hard drive? That may be affecting its ability to transfer data.
And you can't transfer the entire home folder to a PC formatted drive. You can do the Movies, Music or Pictures folder, and your personal data files you created yourself, but not the Library folder. I would attempt to fix what is breaking your Mac rather than try to backup to a thumb drive, and better to recover to a Mac formatted external hard drive with Prosoft Data Rescue:
http://www.prosofteng.com/
And if that doesn't make for usable data with Media Four's MacDrive
http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive6/
Use Alsoft Disk Warrior 3.0.3 on the drive.
If booted off Prosoft Data Rescue or Disk Warrior with nothing but an external hard drive, Apple mouse and keyboard you get a crash, that says your machine has a hardware problem. That will need to be fixed before you can recover any data.

  • HELP! old M505 has crashed and need to recover the data on it

    Hey all,
I'm hoping someone out there has some creative idea on how I can recover the data that was lost on my old M505.  I went on a long vacation and when I returned it had completely run out of power.  Unfortunately after recharging it, the system started at the initial installation screens and had lost all of my addresses, which I had not backed up in a very long time.
If anyone has any great ideas, it would be very much appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Bob Last
    Post relates to: Palm m505

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Support Community.
Sorry, but there is no good news here.
Your old m505 has what is called "volatile" memory, which means that it requires power to maintain it.  Once the batteries die, there is a small capacitor which holds just enough power to preserve data for another few days.  After that, it's << poof ! >> gone and there is no way to retrieve it if you don't have it backed up to your computer.

  • My 24" iMac just died and will not power-up.  What can I do?

My 24" iMac just died and will not power-up.  What can I do?

Bring it into an Apple Store for a free diagnosis and quote for cost of repair/replacement of parts.
If the costs are $500 or over, consider using the money toward a new or "newer" (used) Mac.

  • My late-2009 27inch iMac just died

My late-2009 27 inch iMac just died. Or something
I was working with iPhoto, trying to crop a photo, and the curser worked but that affected nothing on the screen.
So, I tried to FORCE QUIT with the keyboard, and nothing.
So, I held the ON button down until the computer shut down.
Then, sadly. It will not start.
I unplugged it, waited 10 minutes, plugged it and tried to turn it on again, nothing. Does not respond to the ON button.
    Help?

Out of the black, it started up again.
    Thanks anyway.

  • I need to recover deleted data from my iPhone 4S but don't have a recent backup. I thought by pressing sync on my macbook this would back up-but I was wrong. There are no backups on my macbook and the latest backup on iCloud was Jan 2012. Please help

I need to recover deleted data from my iPhone 4S but don't have a recent backup. I thought by pressing sync on my macbook this would back up…but I was wrong. There are no backups on my macbook and the latest backup on iCloud was Jan 2012. My mum died in May and I had lots of text messages that I wanted to keep. I really want to get them back. Is there any way at all I can get that deleted data from the phone?

Since it has always been very basic to backup your computer and all it's data, Apple provides no way for you to transfer music from your iPhone back to your computer.  As you know, you can re-download all iTunes purchases, but music that you ripped yourself you'll have to just re-rip again.
You can try and find 3rd party applications that might help you.  I'm sure you'll pay, however.
Let this be a very important lesson learned.
    Best.

  • My iPhone mobile set got damaged. Got a replacement. Need to recover my data from the last iPhone mobile device. How to do the needful?

    iPhone got damaged
got a new set as replacement
    all data is lost
    how to recover the data?

When setting up the new one, you need to restore it from a backup of the old one.
If you had iOS 5 on your old one:
Your new phone should also have iOS 5, so on the setup screens, wait until you get to the menu that allows you to select "Restore from iCloud Backup."
If you did not have iOS 5 on your old one:
You can plug in the new phone to iTunes, select Restore. Let it do it's thing, and when it's done, select Restore from Backup.

  • HT1529 I turned on my macbook and it says it needs to recover the disk

I turned on the macbookpro and it says it needs to recover the disk but there is no disk to recover from. How do I repair the disk?

Restart while holding both the Command and R keys, that will start from the recovery hard drive...then go to Utilities and Disk Utility and Repair hard drive.  See if that is what it wants you to do.

  • Need to recover my data from guess account.

I don't know what happen, I was using my laptop and it went grey, and i don't want to reboot my system because
i need to recover my data from the guess account. I know if i reboot the system i will lose everything in my guess
account.  Is there anyway i can recover my data.

Nothing you can do, it's going to need to be rebooted to fix it.
You can install OS X on a external drive and download $100 Data Rescue to read the 1's and 0's of deleted files on a hard drive (not a SSD) you can't have Filevault on neither.
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
Once you do that then you can fix the machine.

Payroll was run from Feb-09 onwards and i want put date of joining for this employee as 23.02.2009.
I want to know which date i need to change??...When i am trying to change the first start date i.e. 19.02.2007 to my desired start date, but it is not allowing me to do that as end date is smaller.
Please tell me how would i change the joining date of employee as 23.02.2009 ?.
    Thanks.

  • I've broke my phone, it won't switch on, is there any way to recover the data from it?

My phone has split up the side after I dropped it down some concrete stairs and now it won't switch on, so I need to know if there is anyway to recover the data from it, such as phone numbers, photo's etc. Anyone had this problem?
I've tried plugging it in to the computer but it doesn't do anything, and tried plugging it in to the wall to see if that will switch it on, but nothing.
    Any help gratefully received! Steve

If it will not turn on - you have zero chance of getting anything off the phone.

  • I accidentally deleted my trash. Is there any way to undo it/recover the data?

Unfortunately, I don't have Time Machine set up on my MacBook Pro. And I can't do a "Cmd+z" because I've already performed other actions.
I had probably 50-100 GB worth of .mov files. I don't have them backed up anywhere else. I have Lion, but I'm not sure if that will be of any help because I didn't have the files open in a program that would use the "versions" or "autosave" features.
I already contacted Apple, and they said they couldn't legally recover the data because the trash has already been emptied, whatever that means.
Is there anything I can do to recover these files?
Also, are there any proven data recovery programs for Mac that will get the job done?
    Thanks!

First, stop doing anything with the computer that had these files.
Second, there are programs that can recover data.  How effective they are is based upon many factors that can't be listed here.  One of those factors is how much work you have done with the computer after deleting the files.
I have had success with Data Rescue.  Past experience does not guarantee future results.
You will need a second hard drive to save any recovered data.

  • I need to know the date of the last Monday

I need to know the date of the last Monday
If today is Monday then I need todays date
If today is Tuesday then I need yesterdays date etc....
If today is Sunday then I need to know the date 6 days ago etc....

the day() function will tell you what day of now() is as an integer: 1=Sunday 7=Saturaday.
You know that Monday is 2.  The difference between today's number and Monday's number (with a little mathmatical juggling to wrap Sunday to the previous week  -- I would probably just convert -1 to 6 with a simple if statement after substracting 2 from the day() value.).
Subtracting (adding a negative value) of this difference with the dateAdd() function will give you the date of that previous Monday.

  • Recover the data

How do I recover the data after erase the Macintosh HD disk and also reinstall the system?
My laptop could not be turned on last Wednesday, but I needed to finish up my assignment and submit on Saturday.
I searched online a way to keep my data but the laptop could be fix up.
Under disk utility, I erased the Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then reinstalled the system.
It's said that in this way my data will be all kept, but when I finally got my laptop turned on.
All my data was gone including my files, applications, and so on.
I'm despairing for help right now. What can I do?
    Thank you so much.

    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as MAC Data Recovery, Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Recovery software usually provide trial versions that enable you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
