Imac keeps loosing WIFI connection

Hi all,
I loose wifi connection most of the time (but not all the time) at around 18:00 pm !?!, very strange !
I have no neighbors and no houses close enough to interfere with my wifi.
After loosing connection I do: Syst. Pref - Network - unblock modification with password - Help me - Diagnosis then choose my wifi
and it starts working again for 3 minutes.
Then I loose connection again and have to go through all the previous steps.  After 4 or 5 times it's all ok.
What gives ? Can anyone help me please ? Any suggestions ?
I have to use wifi because my ethernet port and firewire ports both stopped working and Apple says I have to take the machine for repair.
Thanks for any help.
OSX 10.9.4

Please test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
Step 1
Take the applicable steps in this support article. The Wireless Diagnostics program generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
Step 2
Disconnect all USB 3 devices. If you don't know which are USB 3, disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse.
Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. If you find that Wi-Fi works better with Bluetooth disabled, you should use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. Your router may not support it; in that case, you need a new router.
Step 4
Open the Network pane in System Preferences and make a note of your settings in the Wi-Fi service. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the various tabs in the preference pane. If the preference pane is locked, unlock it by clicking the padlock icon and entering your administrator password. Delete Wi-Fi from the service list on the left by selecting it and clicking the minus-sign button at the bottom. Then recreate the service by clicking the plus-sign button and following the prompts.
Step 5
Reset the System Management Controller.
Step 6
Reset the PRAM.
Step 7
Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
Step 8
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

  • IMac keeps losing Wifi connection

Hello, I'm having an annoying problem where my iMac keeps losing its wifi connection. I've tried many things including messing around with the network preferences and trying an internet range extender. The only thing I can think of is that the distance from my router to my iMac has 4 walls in between, so maybe thats causing the wifi error. The only way to solve this is to disconnect and then reconnect back to the internet. This gets really annoying when I'm watching a video or trying to upload something. Thanks for your help.

Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article.
    Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it.
    Step 4
This step will erase all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make a note of them before you begin, and recreate them afterwards. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the preference pane.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 5
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

  • Macbook Pro 10.10.2 keeps loosing wifi connection.

How do I fix my connection issues with my wifi.  It disconnects numerous times daily.  I turn off wifi and then back on to try to reconnect...it doesn't even find my network until I turn wifi off and on about 4 or 5 times and eventually my network will pop up and sometimes it doesn't so I am forced to reboot.  I have 2 PCs, 3 ipads and 3 iphones on the network with no issues.  I have also noticed the internet speeds on the mac are horribly slow.  Any suggestions?

Be sure to test on more than one Wi-Fi network, if at all possible. A desktop computer can be tested with a mobile hotspot, such as the hotspot created by a cell phone. If the problem only exists on one network, then the access point of that network should be the focus of your attention, not the computer.
    Step 2
Disconnect all USB 3 devices. If you don't know which are USB 3, disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse.

    Step 4
Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences and unlock the settings, if necessary. Select the Power Adapter  tab, if there is one. Uncheck the box marked
              Wake for Wi-Fi network access
    if it's checked.
    Step 5
Open the Network pane in System Preferences and make a note of your settings in the Wi-Fi service. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the various tabs in the preference pane. If the preference pane is locked, unlock it by clicking the padlock icon and entering your administrator password. Delete Wi-Fi from the service list on the left by selecting it and clicking the minus-sign button at the bottom. Then recreate the service by clicking the plus-sign button and following the prompts.

    In the Wi-Fi settings, select
              Advanced... ▹ TCP/IP ▹ Configure IPv6: Link-local only
    Click OK and then Apply.
    Step 7
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 8
    Reset the PRAM.
    Step 9
Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. You'll be prompted for the password when you reconnect. Save it in the keychain.
    Step 10
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

  • My brand new iMac keeps dropping wifi connections

At least 2-3 times daily my brand new Imac drops the connection to my home network- I have tried to reboot my airport extreme- my ipad and iphone and nest thermostat do not have these issues of dropped connections.  As soon as I click the pale wireless signal at the top of the imac, it finds my home network and joins again, but it is a drag to have to redo this every time I want to stream music around the house or check my mail. Any Ideas?  All of my updates are current.  Thanks

This has helped some although, unfortunately, not everybody:

  • Keeps loosing WiFi connection

This is a little weird. Bought the Touch on Saturday and have had it connect to my home network (Router is a Netgear DG834GT). It appears that about every 24-hours the connection to the router is severed and I have to reset the Touch's network settings (which means I have to re-enter my password) to get it to reconnect. Macbooks are connecting without any problems whatsoever.
Is there a bug here? Could it be a fault with my Touch?
    Many thanks.

    Hey Axtron,
This could be settings on the router causing the issue. But, we can try a few things on the iPhone.
Make the iPhone forget the network:
"Settings > Wi-Fi. Then tap More Info ( > ) next to the Wi-Fi network name and tap Forget this Network"
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305715
If that does not work try resetting all network settings. Goto Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.

  • Does anyone else have an issue with the iPad loosing wifi connectivity?

My 6 month old 64 gig iPad keeps loosing WiFi connectivity.  This is a problem since I need it for work to test live video streams.  I keep having to back out and reconnect from the systems panel.  This happens when I shift posting even an inch while sitting down or moving from room to room at home.  I have strong connectivity both at home and at work.  There isn't an issue on any of my other devices and a co worker of mine has the same exact iPad, and he is having the exact same problem.  Is there a fix?

Go to Settings>General>Reset then select "Reset Network Settings". the device will shut down and reboot. while that is rebooting, unplug the router, count to 10 plug it back in. wait for the network to appear in wifi accounts, and you're good as gold.
but make sure you know your wifi password or you wont be able to access it.

  • HT4628 iMac looses wifi connection

My iMac (OS 10.8.5) looses wifi connection every once in a while. I go to Network Diagnostics, press all those Continue buttons, at some point it sais "Your Internet connection appears to be working correctly" and the Internet connection is being restored right at this moment. It can happen 2 or 3 times a day or may not happen for weeks. I have seen this with three different routers, moreover, I had this problem in a different place with a different iMac (OS 10.6 again with different routers). Its annoing. May be there is some simple thing I just don't know? Thank you.

Perfect it has been working fine ever since you posted the update 3 months ago.  UNTIL to day i am having the same problem my imac randomly disconnected from the internet while i was watching youtube.  when i went to the wifi icon in the top bar it searched and nothing! logging in/out doesnt help the only fix is to restart any advice?

  • My wireless mouse for my iMac keeps loosing connection. Started after I was having problems with computor not waking up and I put the the setting to "never". Anyone having same problem?

My wireless mouse for imac keeps loosing connection. Started after I was having truoble with computor not waking up and I put the setting to "never sleep". Any suggestions?

If it's an Apple mouse, make it "Favorite" in Bluetooth preferences.
If it's not, the same thing might help, too, but if the problem continues it could be a driver issue (possible incompatibility with your OS X version).

  • Apple tv keeps loosing the connection with the mac

Purchased a new desktop mac, time machine and an apple tv. everything is working splendid however the the apple tv seems to keep loosing the connection with the computer. As I sit here i see its no longer listed on the i tunes as a device, I seem to have to reset to the factory defaults again and re install it. I hope I am wrong and I am missing a step and its there and maybe I just don't know how to access it, So here I am posting this to all, Help.... I will be the first to admit I really am a little lost with this apple tv
    thanks you everyone

I have the same problem as you do. i have had my apple tv for about 2 years now. I connect my apple tv to my iMac, via wifi by airport extreme. i used to before connect via ethernet cable to my airport extreme, i still had the same problem as you do. that itunes losses the apple tv. yet, from apple tv i can still access the internet. i have gone through all my settings on my airport, they are all correct. the connection only seems to last a few days then, it just losses connection. i have asked this question before, but now one was able to help. Apple is not interested because apple tv is just a pet project to them. you do not have to rest the apple tv every time, you just need to go to the options menu and select the connected computers and tell it to delete connection to your computer. once it has done that, make a new connection to your computer on itunes put in the new passcode and set up which films etc you want to be sync. We should not have to do this every few days. Apple needs to sort this out or at least lets us know how to stop this.
